Tuesday in November - maybe not the best day to tour Tuscany, so that's on me. The good: the driver Edwardo was knowledgable, shared a lot of pertinent personal experience, and handled a 3/8" bolt in our tire with finesse. The bad - Montepulciano, which was closed for all practical purposes, and the first winery, Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano, the Walmart of wineries. The tour was rather bland and fast, with no real discussion of the wines they produce other than the mass quantities produced. The meal was so-so as well. Who wants to tour a Walmart winery? The great: first was Pienza, an absolutely beautiful city that must be seen to be appreciated - it's like Venice, where everywhere you turn you see an absolutely beautiful view, but it isn't sinking. Absolutely worth it. Montelcino was also mostly closed, but the tour included a second winery, the Padelletti Winery. Imagine a tour of a world renowned winery with a rich history of producing great wines, given by none the less than the owner, whose passion and investment in making great wines was the star of the show. The wines were excellent, and she was wiling to let us taste everything we wanted to buy (and we did). What a contrast to Walmart. This tour needs to be corrected accordingly. Have Edwardo take us to someplace other than Walmart first, and it will be a great tour.

Reviews
Albeit the review shown positive of the tour. But the real experience were quite flat and ordinary .. it’s was like chauffeuring trip running through some places of interests., the winery and wine tasting was quite nice but the food offer for the lunch was a let down. I can’t even give a rate for its quality….😖
There is A LOT of walking and the cities are very hilly. Anyone with walking difficulties will find this challenging. We do not have that situation, but it was still an effort. Lucca is tall and walks very quickly, so our group was separated for a few minutes, but we caught up.
Great tour! I highly recommend it! Lilly was a great guide. I highly recommend this tour!
I attempted to join this tour but my city bus was running late. I informed the operator that I would arrive 5 minutes late. They offered zero understanding and needed this 11 hour full day tour to depart on the minute. They marked me as a no show and kept my money.
Fun experience. The tour operator was super nice and professional. I was a little disappointed, and it may have been my fault for not doing my due diligence, but I thought we were going to experience the wine tastings in an actual winery, but this was not the case. It was nice to be driven to the various small towns and instructed on what was worth seeing in each town. The scenery in Tuscany was amazing.
The tour was beautiful, Alessandra was amazing, she explained everything and was very considerate of the group, we had a wonderful time.
Fantastic wine and tour. Marta and Alessio were the best! Highly recommend from an experienced traveler.
This could hardly be called a wine tour and we did not get what was advertised. We visited three villages and had free time in each. This was nice. The tour advertised a Tuscan lunch, tours if two wineries and 5 wine tastings. The lunch was very good and included two small glasses of wine. As for the wine tours, both times we were told that we can visit the cellar if there was time. There was no guide and no chance to walk in the vineyards etc. When we got to the second winery, the setting in the garden was nice but there were not enough seats, glasses and there were not enough glasses. Another tour joined ours and there was only one person setting up, running to get more glasses and wine. Then proceeded with a 15 minute sales pitch for the wines. We only got an once of two different wines and if we wanted the promised 5th winery, there was an extra $10 euro charge. Oh did I mention the glasses were smudged and lipstick stained. All in all it was an average tour at best and mostly disappointing.
We had an amazing time on the tour and absolutely loved it! Everything was very enjoyable and well organized. The cities included in the itinerary are beautiful and definitely worth visiting. The whole team was fantastic. Our guide, Sofi, and our driver, Claudio, were both incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the entire day. They made sure we had everything we needed and made the experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend this tour!
Sofia and Claudio were fabulous hosts- making each step of the day seemless, fun, and enjoyable! We had a fabulous day and Sofia kept everyone engaged and happy- always anticipating our next need or question! WhatsApp was a clever way to keep the group informed and on schedule! We met the 27th generation winemaker- what an experience! Thank you Sofia and Claudio!!
Sofia and Claudio were absolute gems for this tour. Claudeo's driving and Sofia's personal and knowledge were highlights of the trip. The visit to the three cities and vineyards was worth the trip and time. Thank you to Sofia & Claudio for a marvelous day!!
The trip was very good. Sofi is an excellent guide. Lots of interesting information about all the areas we travelled through and the 3 towns we visited. She was fun, welcoming and happy to answer any questions. Claudio the driver was also excellent. Picked up on time and was always exactly where we told to meet him.
Great tour, great value for money! Well done, Claudio and Sofia! You created for us some cherished memories. The three cities are breathtaking, Pienza being my favorite. I only wished we could spend more than one hour there. The wine experiences were both authentic, i loved that we were shown places with history that enriched our trip to Italy and views on Tuscany. The pasta was also delicious! Keep up the good job guys, you are special!
Wonderful time in Tuscany hills with Sofia and Claudio. Great value for the money and overall a great experience.
We didn’t have a car so this was a great option for us - ticks off a few regions, two wine tastings, lunch and our guide Leonardo was informative and friendly! It’s nice to have free time in each area and was such a treat to visit the last winery … gorgeous views & wine, and such history with a 26-generation family run business! A long day but so nice to not have to think about how to get to the next place and just enjoy the ride.
Sofi was amazing and her knowledge of the region and wine is outstanding. We would highly recommend her and her team
Thanks Sofia for the great trip!!
My wife and I went into this with middle of the road expectations. However, to say it exceeded those expectations would be an understatement. Our guide, Sofi, was excellent, knowledgeable, pleasant, and understanding of our sometimes lagging the group. Our Driver, Johnny was really a good guy, a great driver and very very pleasant. He helped my wife off the bus every time we stopped and that was greatly appreciated. All in all it was a great tour and a great setting. I’m ranking two of the places we went to right up there with Verona and Assisi as places not as popular as Rome, Venice in Florence, but special, we give this two huge thumbs up.
Excellent staff and tour, who were very thorough and provided insightful knowledge of the Tuscany region.
Excellent tour in selected wineries when you don't wish to try. Received extra wines to taste in both tastings. Our Guide Allegra handled everything professionally.
Allegra ( our guide) and Silvio ( our driver) were both amazing! Allegra gave lots of useful information and was very knowledgeable about the history of the area! She kept us all to schedule without pressuring us, and made the whole trip an excellent experience!! Thanks to both, we had an amazing time!!
We had a wonderful day exploring Tuscany on this tour. The landscapes were beautiful, the experience was very well organized, and we really enjoyed visiting the places where the wines rest and mature. The wine tastings were excellent and gave us a great appreciation for the region and its traditions. A special thank you to Sofia, who was very kind, welcoming and attentive throughout the whole day. She made the experience feel personal, relaxed and well organized, always making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the tour. We would also like to thank Marco, our driver, who was professional, friendly and drove very safely through the Tuscan roads. His calm and careful driving made the whole day much more comfortable and stress-free. The lunch stop was also a highlight. We had a Tuscan pasta with an excellent ragù that was honestly one of the best pastas we have ever had in our lives. Overall, it was a beautiful and memorable experience in Tuscany. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Siena and wanting to enjoy the Val d'Orcia, taste great wines and have a very well organized day.
A wonderful day in the breathtaking Val d'Orcia with our really friendly and knowledgeable guide, Sofia, and great driver, Marco. We loved the stops at Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino. So picturesque. A good amount of time at all locations. Lunch was fabulous inside the rustic restaurant of the winery. And beautiful scenery for the second wine tasting of Brunello. Our original tour couldn't run but 'My Tour in Italy' were so helpful in providing us an alternative excursion - thank you also to Pamela who arranged this for us!
This was a great tour. Great stops. Great vino. Great tour guide. Emma was attentive, helpful and informative. She went out of her way to make every single one of us feel special. I could not have asked for a better person
A lovely day exploring 2 beautiful Tuscan towns and 2 excellent wine tasting experiences. Alessandra was a terrific tour guide. The small bus was very comfortable. A perfect way to see the countryside without the stress of driving and parking.
Our guide Luca was very informative. The first winery we visited did not give us the attention we deserved. They took in another group and paid more attention to them. They left us with little time to visit the area. I would have liked to have 3 different tastings. Felt more like a senic drive.
Although I quite enjoyed this tour, it wasn't the one I chose. I had hoped to do the small group tour to Pienza and Montepulciano. This was cancelled and I was offered the winery tour to Sangimignano and Montacito.
We had a very knowledgeable tour guide and great driver. The wine tours were great as well as the two cities that we visited.
This was a great wine tour! It was just the right amount of time spent at each winery and city to give you the opportunity to experience and explore the culture and wine. We stopped at 2 wineries with tastings, and a store tour winery and tasting located in a beautiful city set on an hill where you had the choice to explore the city or take the store wine tour. We also stopped for lunch at a quaint city with a fabulous view and many restaurants to choose from. This trip allowed us to see a large area of Tuscany with beautiful country side and towns that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to see and enjoy. It was a perfect day trip that we highly recommend!
This was an amazing tour! Our tour guide was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and lots of fun! She truly has a talent and I am amazed at her patience and having to translate into three different languages on this particular tour. We loved touring and exploring Pienza and Montepulciano. Highly recommend!
Strolling through the streets taking in the beauty. The guides provided amazing history along the way.
The towns and wine tasting experiences were good. The tour guides were friendly, informative and patient. However, the transport vehicle was substandard, with broken seat backs, and inadequate shocks which was especially problematic when we hit speed bumps. Returning down steep roads, mechanical noises (perhaps brake issues) made us nervous enough to fasten our seat belts.
As a loyal traveller on many previous successful Viator trips, we were extremely disappointed to have such a negative experience with Viator today. The trip that we booked advertised a Guided Tour with Multilingual Escorts. These services were not provided during our trip. Instead, a driver appeared late, and stated that he did not speak English . No guide nor translator accompanied him and he did not speak during the trip. We were provided with no information at all during this trip. He was unfamiliar with the locations and held his cell phone in front of his eyes on the steering wheel while driving in attempt to locate the returning point outside of the city of Siena.
You get what you pay for. One wine tasting stop. Crackers were the “snack”. Would have preferred a family owned vineyard but the one we went to was larger and could accommodate 18 people better. Would have been nice to have something in hand about the stops we made since there wasn’t a guide with us while we were walking around. Pienza would have been ideal to have a cheese tasting. The shop we went into was not very accommodating and didn’t want to host the tourist by letting them taste the cheese at leisure. The tour guide and bus driver were very nice and it was a great way to see two more towns in one day. Just a bit underwhelming in the delivery.
The rolling hills, charming streets, and panoramic views in these two Tuscan towns made it feel like a scene from a post card. I would suggest to change the name of the tour to "From Siena: Pienza and Montepulciano with Wine Tasting Tour" because it's more of touring the 2 towns than wine tasting.
Best: The beautiful Tuscany countryside-took lots of memory making photos. Learning more about the art and craft of winemaking at a beautiful Winery. Didn’t realize that “time on your own” in Montepulciano and Pienza meant just that-no guidance as to how to make the most of our time. The tour was touted as 9:45 AM-9:15PM. But we were back to Siena by 5:30 PM. Apparently the tour started with one couple being picked up in Florence, then the 5 of us in Siena at 9:30 AM. Still doesn’t account for the almost 4 hours earlier than expected that the tour ended. Maybe just typos?
These two prominent mountain towns were an incredible experience. The guides did a good job setting it up and getting us there. Just the right amount of free time. The large production winery was unimpressive. I prefer small family production wineries.
Terrible the guild could speak very simple English and could not understand her at all. The group was way to big so we could not hear anything the wine operators was talking about. Not worth the money at all.
They cancelled our trip the day before even after being payed and confirmed because they didn't have more reservations. Destroying our day on the toscana. A total shame
The trip went exactly as planned. Our tour guide and his assistant were knowledgeable and gave us helpful information.
Signed up for a minibus tour six months ago. Ended up on a full tour bus. Stopped at one winery.the entire day. “Snacks” were a packet of saltine crackers. I guess I misread the description? Enjoyed the other people on the bus and the towns were beautiful. Expected more from Viator.
Great way to see the Tuscan countryside without renting a car. Tour guide was not good and spent most of the time talking with the bus driver instead of being available to answer questions about surroundings. The bus driver was honking and yelling at another driver from a car before we even left the parking lot ( the bus was 1/2 hour late to arrive also)! The the driver was talking on the phone or to the tour guide the entire trip. Also the bus died on the expressway but the driver was able to get it going again quickly. The time allowed to visit pienza and montepulciano was good and we got a lot of great view of the countryside. The winery stop was okay but the wine-4 samples -was wonderful.
The wine tour was great, very professional and with the traditional wooden barrels, the knowledge extensive and tastings generous. The towns we visited gorgeous. Luciano and Alexio were great guide and driver, very knowledgeable and friendly. Would do another tour with them any day.
I was not impressed with this tour. The pic with the promo is not what you get. The tour guide was very professional and informative. But, this was not a Tuscan wine tour, far from it. The wine tasting was in a sterile wine factory. In the cellars, yes, and the wine was first rate but so not what I expected as the Tuscan experience. Basically we were dropped off at the towns and sorted ourselves out. And the time spent in Pienza was far too long. This was not a wine tour, it was a delivery service.
Was a nice tour and the wine tasting was very nicely done. Love the Tuscany region so breathtaking Met some nice people but expected the snack to be sometging other than a pack of soda craquers.
This is not a wine tour, this is a Toscana Town tour. When originally booking, Montalcino was also included in the itinerary with a stop at a vineyard. It was also only for a group of 8 people only - more private. The tour ended up being ~30+ people which required the use of a coach bus, the wine tour in Montepulciano stopped at a large wine distributor and time was given in the towns but no other provided vineyards or wine tours were given.
A great self guided trip. It was as expected with plenty of time in the two towns. We took a mini hop on hop off in Pienze. Not a fan of bus tours but this was fine and our guide and driver were great.
Our booking promised 3 stops - wine tasting at Montalcino with local snacks plus free time there, then Pienza to learn about pecorino cheese, then Montepulciano for second wine tasting at a winery. Actual tour fell way short. No Montalcino, no cheese info and Montepulciano tasting was at the coop not a winery. Meeting point at start of day was also written wrong.
This tour advertised a wine tasting in both Montepulciano and Montalcino and further promised an hour of free time in Montalcino. We were advised on the bus that there was no stop in Montalcino. I approached the 2 local tour guides from "My Tour in Italy" and they both said that they stopped going to Montalcino months ago and they had advised Viator of this. Viator had not updated their website to reflect the tour not going to Montalcino which "My Tour in Italy" had asked them to do. When I complained to Viator they advised they had passed along my message. to the local operator thus trying to avoid the issue. They still haven't admitted they were wrong .
