We really enjoyed this experience, it was an easy ride in most parts. There were some tricky sections and we had to retrace our steps a couple of times. We saw turtles and otters in the waterways and stopped for a coffee along the way. We found the ride took longer than expected- around 3 hours. We had planned to ride back but decided on the train.

Great cycle. Ebikes easy to use and really enjoyed the smooth route home via Via V.I.Lenin. Be aware that you aren't supplied a helmet standard, which is surprising given much of the route is shared with cars and on uneven terrain. You can only download one route per smart phone on the free app, so if you want to cycle there and back you will need two smart phones.
Easy to follow route mostly off the main roads . Be ready for it to take a little longer than stated. Also consider the weight of electric bikes if you are using the train as the local station back from Pisa has a lot of stairs to negotiate and they are heavy …unless we missed the lift!
Great day out in the countryside, the bikes made it easy and very enjoyable. We went there and back on the bikes after spending a few hours in Pisa and having a lovely lunch away from the crowds in the centre. 100% would do it again it was fun and lovely to cycle so far through varying scenery. We’re in our mid 50s and don’t cycle at all except on holidays sometimes.
What a ride!! My wife and kids said it was the coolest thing they have EVER done. The round trip on the bike was 38 miles. There is the option to train back from Pisa., but we opted to ride round trip. Staff was helpful with app and bike setup. It took my family of 4 (14 and 11 year old) about 2 hours from Lucca to Pisa and 1.5 hours to get back. Great scenery through Tuscany countryside. Recommend bringing a battery pack and sunscreen.
Staff contacted and accommodated a booking change which was really kind and helpful. Office easy to locate near the train station and the bikes were well maintained and easy to operate. Staff helpful in providing a map app. The ride was easy and we went through beautiful countryside.
Beautiful cycle ride. Staff at location super nice and helpful. Helped with a last minute booking change due to a cancelled flight. Love seeing a place by bike.
Lots of riding, but the e-bike makes it easy. We enjoyed a beautiful bike ride from Lucca to Pisa and back via two different routes. The app provided all the directions needed to make it on your own. I recommend.
This was one of the funnest things I did on my two week vacation. Go at your own pace, take pictures of the country side. The leaning tower is a must see in person.
Biked to and from Pisa. Enjoyed the trails and going through countryside. For the most part the directions were ok. There were a few times we got turned around. It would have been helpful if the app would have recalculated and told us how to get back on the right track. Instead it took a few trial and errors. Be sure to bring an extra battery pack. The ride took 2.5 hours on the way to Pisa with a couple of brief stops for pictures. The way back took less than two hours nonstop. It was approximately 60km.
Was worth the ride across to Pisa and an easier ride back. Both equally worth the scenery. Remember. Bring a phone charger pack. And if you want to experience the Pisa Climb. Buy your tickets ahead of time.
First time using E-Bikes and was easy to learn and use. Size limit to use is 5' 1". My son is that size and could easily manage it. Route to Pisa is mostly flat trails and backroads with a few short stretches of busier roads. Very beautiful ride. Ride back was mostly roads, some busy. That was slightly disappointing. Definitely recommend wearing bike helmets which are offered at no extra charge but not required. There is option to take a train back to Lucca from Pisa. This is extra and on your own dime. If planning on biking there and back, recommend the earlier pick-up bike time at 9:30AM in order to have enough time in Pisa. The bikes include locks. We locked our bikes in Pisa and then walked in Pisa and ate lunch and checked out the Leaning Tower of Pisa. After returning to Lucca, we biked around the top of the walls of the city before returning our bikes. Overall great experience, great value.
We were a group of 4 ladies in our 50s and 60s. Gianluca welcomed us with a great sense of humor. He had our bikes ready to go and even opened a little early for us. The bikes were easy to use and the countryside was beautiful. It took us 4 hours with stops for pictures. We did have to race to find the drop off, so make sure you know to go to the station to drop off your bikes first before the tower. We took the train back to Lucca. Highly recommend!
Magnificent day. Was an easy ride along canals and through the tuscan countryside. Great bikes and clear directions. The way home is shorter, but along the road. So, if you’re feeling a little tired I would suggest the train home 😊
Fantastic service and very good electric bikes. Very kind people and very helpful. Just great. Recommend to everybody
This was a highlight of our holiday. The electric bikes were easy to use and the route was really well planned. We went through some beautiful countryside before arriving in Pisa.
Ride from Lucca to Pisa was great. About 20 miles each way. E-bike shop very friendly and helpful. GPS app we loaded made extremely easy to find route. Highly recommend!
We had to abandon tour after 5 minutes. Bike too large for my petite wife to ride safely. Seat was too painful for me. Staff was very polite, but did not offer solutions or refund.
Bikes in good condition. Really lovely route to Pisa but tougher than you think. We took the train back as we were running out of time.
Our group of 4 adults and 4 teenagers had an incredible time biking through the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The bikes were easy to ride, and the electric assist made the trip a breeze. We loved the back roads and bike paths on the way there, and appreciated the more direct and smooth roads (although with more traffic) on the way back. We stopped off at the recommended town on the way and had a nice little lunch. We only wished we had more time in our day to see more! Would definitely recommend this tour!
We opted for the trekking bikes and had an amazing time riding the flat terrain from Lucca to Pisa. The bike path was mostly gravel but we did occasionally have to ride in the streets with cars. We decided to stop in S. Giuliano for lunch and that was a great experience. When we arrived in Pisa and saw the crowds we were very glad that we did that. We chose to take the train back to Lucca which was easy. The GPS app provided worked very well. It was a great way to experience a part of Tuscany
Great way to see the countryside riding from Lucca to Pisa. Beautiful views. We cycled one way and caught the train back which was easy to do. Bikes were great and staff were helpful.
The bikes were in great shape, the service was excellent, and the app worked well. The city of Lucca was awesome and the trip to Pisa was a nice ride. Combo of trail, road and a little off roading.
A great way to get to Pisa avoiding the traffic you get to ride the tracks by the river and aqueduct. We used the bikes to see more of Pisa than just the area near the Tower which was very busy. The return route was mainly on minor roads in total it took us 3:30 for the return route. The bikes were comfortable and still had 50% battery when we finished so don’t worry about using turbo if you need it. Overall an enjoyable da
Great day out cycling along the river and bike baths to Lucca. So pleased to make the decision to ride back through the luscious green hills on small lanes past old villas and vineyards. But GPS navigation system is heavy on yr phone battery - you definitely need a power pack to recharge it at lunchtime. Round trip was 60 kms. The team at Smile & Ride do a great job - thoroughly recommend. Good bikes.
Our family of 6 really enjoyed this bike tour to Pisa! It was a beautiful ride. However, it did take longer than we expected, and we barely made it to our reserved time to tour the leaning tower. Be sure you plan for extra time. We did not make any stops or stop at the rest stop, and it took about 2 hours and 45 min to get there. Other than getting there later than we expected and having to rush at the end, it was a really great experience!
This was a great experience and a lot of fun, the staff were very friendly, helpful and informative. I would recommend it to anyone who visits Lucca, Italy.
Fantastic route to Pisa and back with family of four. The e-bikes were fantastic quality with plenty of charge to last all day- stunning scenery all the way to the Tower. Lovely villages to stop for refreshments on route.
We had a great afternoon cycling to Pisa in the sunshine. The path/track passed by farms, villages, the ancient Mill Canal and the medieval aqueduct.
While so many reviews indicated otherwise, this is not an easy undertaking at all. We are a family of 5 fit, active and energetic people. This was an extremely arduous day. Given the high summer temperatures, limited shade, and limited access to water refilling on the route, the length of travel and duration in full sun is not to be underestimated. We had an advance booking, but were greeted with a lukewarm reception and made to wait a fair while (in climbing temperatures) before our bikes were ready. The app installation was problematic, as the Tourist Center staff themselves could not override a subscription payment requirement which the app called for. It is not an app belonging to this company. Our slightly delayed start time, and then an early bike chain snapping needing replacement after a couple of km (though we were assisted quickly with this), all contributed to a ride which took place during the peak heat of the day. Unfortunately, with heatstroke imminent, our enjoyment of arriving at the Piazza dei Miracoli was curtailed.
Although we are relatively fit & experienced cyclists, this ride was not what we expected - 12km of the ride was on main roads which was actually quite dangerous negotiating two large roundabouts with heavy traffic. Some of the route was a dirt track about 1 foot wide, through waist high grass. Overall not an enjoyable experience. Definitely caught the train back.
Excellent activity and way to discover Pisa. Rented a few bikes with friends and it was a great cycle. Would recommend to anyone
This was a fun way to see the landscape and explore Lucca and Pisa. It took us a full 2.5 hours on e-bikes and I was glad to bring a battery pack as others recommended because the app did drain my battery. The countryside was beautiful. The trail was relatively easy to follow. There’s lots of gravel and bumpy sections, and I’m definitely sore. The train was easy coming back.
This was wonderful, different, and beautiful. The ride is easy on e-bikes. However, we stayed focus and pushed and found that it took longer than expected both ways. There is an option to ride the train back; however, you have to carry the (heavy) bikes up to the train platform, and there is an extra fee to take the bikes on the train. We elected to ride both ways and it was fun but challenging to keep pace and get back in time to catch our train. This activity was a highlight for me. It was so beautiful and such a different way to see Tuscany. There’s not a lot as far as food and drinks between Lucca & Pisa, so plan to eat lunch in Pisa. As far as safety, even though we were sometimes on busier roads, the cars were well equipped to deal with cyclists and we felt safe. We did run into one hiccup when we disembarked our boat in LaSpezia— the train we needed was sold out and we paid a lot for a taxi ride. Make sure you book the train ticket easily on the Trenitalia app.
Very helpful team at the bike hire shop and excellent bicycles. It’s a lengthy ride to Pisa but easily achievable in the day. Highly recommended.
It was fantastic! Needed better directions on how to exit from the bike shop :) Definitely take two fully charged phones. Or even a separate phone for taking photos. Map in app was excellent and say to follow. Would highly recommend this tour! We biked both directions with no trouble.
This was a very cool experience. My only recommendation is to bring two fully charged phones plus two power banks, as the navigation app drains the battery very quickly. The bike quality was perfect. The ride does take you on roads with car traffic, so I would not recommend taking young children.
The location was easy to find, the bikes were in very good condition and comfortable to use. Customer service was friendly, including a good tutorial on how to use the app. While the app was very good at keeping us on the right path, the only downside is that it uses a lot of battery on the phone (drained it completely by the time we got to our destination). Luckily we brought a battery pack and could recharge it. Other than that, an excellent experience! Note that we paid much less by booking this trip through Viator before we left home than if we'd paid to do the same excursion directly from the vendor.
The bikes were ready and pre-fit to our heights, the app worked well (keep an eye on the map to help anticipate turns), and the ride covered varied vistas (riverside paths, farmland/vineyards, small towns, etc.). And the owner was entertaining. 😊
This is a great outfitter. Our bikes were ready when we arrived and were in good working order. They provided directions through the Komoot app which we easily downloaded to our phones. This made for a lovely ride in a beautiful place
Beautiful countryside. Ride not difficult. Made it from Lucca to Pissa and back with some brief stops. Very informative and helpful staff giving us all the info we needed to feel safe with their bikes. Good directions!
I highly recommend this self-guided bike tour from Lucca to Pisa. The provided bikes were in excellent condition, each equipped with repair kits, chains, and locks, allowing us to securely stop and dine at various locations along the route. The journey offered breathtaking scenery, immersing us in the rich Italian rural culture. Even my young adult children considered it one of the most remarkable experiences of their lives. Each bike featured a phone holder, and the accompanying map was user-friendly, though we occasionally faced challenges locating the trail; however, we managed to navigate successfully. Certain segments required cycling on roads, so I recommend opting for e-bikes to comfortably travel to Pisa and back, as they provided significant assistance during the ride.
Easy to follow route, all relatively flat. It had rained heavily the night before my trip so some parts of the trail were very wet and muddy.
Took and e-bike to Pisa from Lucca for the day. Great ride, beautiful scenery. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the equipment was in great shape.
Really great day despite the weather- took bikes from Lucca to Pisa. Bikes really good and an easy ride. Lots to look at along the way. A few short stretches on main roads but other than that all off the beaten track. App with map and directions worked really well and we took the train back from Pisa to Lucca which again was very easy. Very friendly, helpful staff. Would highly recommend.
The bike ride was amazingly fun! I would do this next trip to Lucca. The bikes were much better quality than I expected. The center representative explained everything very well.
Riding through the towns was the best part of the trip itself. Pisa was cool to see but extremely busy which the tour cannot control.
Beautiful trip. Lovely sights bikes are great. I don't understand the rationale for not suggesting 1 person download both going and returning. It would have simplified many things.
We booked a guided tour from Lucca to Pisa. Great help from the staf to keep all options open because of rain forcast. In the end there was no rain and the wether was great. Good explanation of the tour app and extra information for the return ride with the train. Good quality tracking bike and E-tracking bike.
Fantastic experience. Bikes worked well. The team on the ground showed us through the map app. The team explained the bike. A great day experience away from the tourists.
