Amazing introduction to Siena and Tuscan wine! We did not have to walk too much so this tour would be great for older people. Our tour guide Julianna was lovely- so friendly and knowledgeable. You get a good variety or food and wine and we learned so much! Highly recommend!
Georgia was such an amazing host, she gave us lots of information but in a very funny and informal way. There was a great variety of foods to try, well worth it for the money. Time was spent inside learning whilst eating then we had a 45 minute walk through the streets with more food and information. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Thank-you. Jenni and Lynn
4 of us thoroughly enjoyed this tour which taught us about wine and food of Siena. Our guide, Georgina, was friendly and informative in a comfortable way while we sampled wines and food before a walk around the neighborhood. We enjoyed some street food and finished with a cafe and some pastries. It was a perfect 2 hours!
This tour was the perfect blend of history, culture, and tasting of food and wine! We started with information and tasting the local food and wine. Heading out of the wine school for the second hour to walk and learn about the Siena. The food and wine tastings were exceptional, offering a true taste of Tuscan flavors—from cheeses and cured meats to delicious regional wines and snacks.
We enjoyed our tour with knowledge and friendly Elio! We were a family of four, including two teenagers, one too young to enjoy wine... but Elio made sure he had a "tasting" of Italian sodas, which he loved! We spent the first hour in the Tuscan Wine School and tasted three wines, a variety of cheeses and 3-4 cured meats, as well as brushetta and crostini with olive tapenade. We also learned about and tasted quality olive oil and balsamic. Then we took to the streets for a traditional stuffed pizza and gelati. Elio helped us learn about labeling on the bottles and how to pick a quality product. He also helped explain the store signage too and how to tell if a product is made in-house. We immediately started using this information to begin purchasing products in Siena. The tour ended with a tasting of the traditional sweet wine, Vin Santo.
This was a fantastic tasting of wines and local bruschetta, cheese, and salumi, with a brief walking tour to try additional treats afterwards. It was a very enjoyable couple of hours. Highly recommend!
The yioung lady (Ambra) was very well informed and brought a great sense of fun and humour to the experience. My only criticism is that I expected more of a tour of Sienna itself.
Elio explained the wines and food choices in fine fashion. All were excellent. We enjoyed our tour around the area with some history mixed in as well as the stuffed pizza. Well worth it! Kudos to Elio!
We loved our wine/food and tour guide. She was so knowledgeable and very kind and funny. Loved the wines, the olive oil and the balsamic vinegar...not to mention the food we tasted on the tour. So worth it!!
The tour really help me appreciate some of the wines of Thea area. It was a good introduction to the Tuscany region and the different wines and different quality of wines that are offered. The tour also included a short tour around Siena and explained some really unique aspects of the different neighborhoods within the city. It was a really fun and enjoyable tour.
For a rainy day it turned out great. Elio and Georgia were great hosts. Elio has a great personality and is very knowledgeable. Pairings of meats and cheeses with wines was really good. We even got out a little bit for a bite of a local favorite…….Ciaccino. Then back for dessert and wine. Stayed pretty dry for a rainy day and we are completely satisfied and full from all the food we enjoyed. Thanks. Will recommend to friends
Highly recommend this tour! We came down from Florence and scheduled the night before. Elio was ready for us and we took off on a one hour tour around Siena. It was great to learn about the neighborhoods and overall history! Once back for the wine and food portion we settled in for another hour of history about the region and wines we were trying. Great information received for a two hour tour!
We spontaneously booked the Savor Siena tour (which was no problem, they where really helpful eventhough we booked last minute) and it was a great tour. We started with a wine tasting together with some cold cuts and cheeses. After that we went out on a tour of the town where Giorgia told us about the exciting history of Siena. After the tour we ended with some sweets and a great sweet wine. We can highly recommend this tour, everything about it was great and we also learned a lot. Giorgia was a great tour guide and you could really tell she has a lot of knowledge about the history of Siena and about the local wines, her passion was really inspiring and we loved her!
Georgia was our hostess and after starting us with wines of the area ,we walked about an hour around Siena stopping to sample meats, gelato, ciaccino ( great street food )! What a joy to walk through this old city and learn of the Contrade and the famous Palio horserace competitions.... I think Siena is my favorite small town in Italy ! Georgia was eager to share restaurant suggestions for our stay here !
I absolutely loved this tour! Great view of some of the "off the beaten path" places in Siena. Gelato, wine, cheese, meats, olive oil and CIACCINI - definitely worth your time when you are visiting Siena!
Thank you Nina for a wonderful food and wine tour. It was by far the best gelato we have tried in Italy (and we have tried a LOT). Thanks also for introducing us to Il Vinaio di Bobbe and Davide (see separate review) which became our favourite restaurant during our stay. It was a pleasure meeting you. P.S. We enjoyed the food and wine tour so much we also took the wine tasting tour with Nina the next day.
We enjoyed this tour with Nina. She is very impressive as speaks 8 languages and also an author! The tour was 2 hrs which was perfect and a small group so it was intimate. Also, there was wine and food along the way. Definitely would recommend this tour!
This is a great way to learn about some of Siena’s history/culture, taste popular foods and enjoy a little bit of wine. Nina did a fantastic job as our tour guide! She is very knowledgeable and friendly and it was only her third day working for the Tuscan Wine School! I recommend this tour to any first time visitors to Siena.
As my partner and I were only going to be in Siena for two days, we were looking for something fun to do that would also give us an idea of the culture of Siena. We got exactly what we were looking for and much more! Our tour guide was Nina and we couldn’t believe that it was one of her first tours. She was brilliant at her job, she was so welcoming and friendly and we could tell she was so passionate about both wine and food. She allowed us to pick her brain for the whole tour with any questions we had about Siena/Italy. Nina made this tour so enjoyable by showing us the best spots to eat and drink in Siena while making us feel like we were chatting with our friend. We tried lots of Siena specialties such as wine, cold meats and a tasty ham and cheese pizza/sandwich (that I wish I could remember the name of). We left feeling very full, it’s a must do if you visit Siena!
We had a great experience with Giorgia for our food and wine tour! We started at the Tuscan Wine School with a glass of wine and some wonderful samplings of cheese, then began exploring the local area. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining the history of Sienna and the rivalry between the neighborhoods, all while making us laugh and showing us the sights. We sampled lots of amazing food, including salami, pizza, gelato, truffles, and more. Then we returned to the wine school and tasted olive oil, tried different desserts, and drank even more wine. We definitely felt full and satisfied at the end of the tour. Of note, we had two young children and my parents with us, and she made sure to keep an easy going pace throughout the walk. I highly recommend this tour, and can't thank Giorgia enough for for the wonderful experience!
Nice food and point of interest tour of Siena. Giorgia great guide and speaks very good English .Giorgia also runs the Tuscany Wine School . Siena has some hills so be ready for a good walk around town.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Savor Siena tour by Tuscan Wine School. Everything we tasted was excellent, and Giorgia gave us an insider's look into Siena's contrade (neighborhoods), rivalries, the Palio, a bit of history, and local pride. I felt like I got to know this city better and now feel a stronger connection to it and its people. I thought it was well worth the money, and I now know where to head for dinner, the market, and of course where to get the best gelato. This is money well spent!
Giorgia and Savor Siena was one of the highlights of our trip to Tuscany. Giorgia Is very knowledgeable and her English is excellent. She introduced us to some wonderful wines, cheeses, honey, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar in her shop. We learned a lot about Siena and the surrounding areas. The tastings at the local cafes and shops were wonderful. We tried truffles for the first time. Tip...park in the underground parking garage near the train station. Enter the shopping mall and take 9, yes 9, escalators to the top. From there take a cab to the wine school.
My wife and I spent two hours at lunch time on Tuscan Wine School's Savor Siena tour. The tour starts with a sampling of wines, truffle cremes and other delicacies at their store. We then moved on to visit a "deli" (see picture below) where we tasted meats and cheeses, a coffee shop for some excellent espresso, and a gelataria for the best gelato we had on this Italian trip. More than enough food to make a great lunch. Our guide, Sofia, was excellent. Her English was excellent. In addition to information about the food, she also provided insights into living in Tuscany. Lest you have any concerns in this regard, there was absolutely no pressure to purchase products.
We did the Savor Siena walk and it was great. They are VERY centrally located, so it was a great way to start our visit to Siena. Our guide, Ilaria was full of knowledge about the area and the food and wine culture. She was also very easy to get along with, which makes for a nice tour. Highly recommended.
We took the Savor Siena food and wine tour with the Tuscan Wine School and had a marvelous time. Sophia was a fabulous guide and we learned a lot about Siena food traditions and how they came to be. The tour started at the school with wine and bread and olive oil and then progressed to different food purveyors in Siena. Go hungry! We sampled so many meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, gelato, wine and chocolates, we rolled out!! The people on our tour were fun and added to the experience. If you are a foodie, this tour is a MUST. If you are not a foodie but enjoy history, this tour gives you a nice perspective on the history of food which is important because food is so important to the Italian culture. It was fun and a lot of laughs. I would definitely recommend this anyone visiting Siena--a most enjoyable two hours!
I did the Savor Siena tour. At first, I was wary of it since sometimes these things turn into tourist shopping mills, but this wasn't one of those at all... PROS: There was no hidden agenda, just the celebration of foods/wine from the region. Their shop is curated by their tastes and exploration of the region with no pressure to buy at all (though I totally bought a bunch). Our guide was super friendly, enthusiastic, and very well-informed. We learned a lot of fun facts and anecdotes (histories, differences, etc) that I'll use at future cocktail parties. Not much walking at all; everything is centered around Piazza del Campo. CONS: I wish there was more! The two hours somehow whizzed by, but I was hoping there'd be a little more behind-the-scenes. It would have been fun to see how they make the salumi or the ice cream, but then again, I could understand why they can't squeeze 15 people in the back for a demonstration during a busy workday. It's a fantastic way to see Siena and pass the time! Totally worth it!
The Savor Siena food and wine tour of Siena is a wonderful way to learn a bit of fascinating history, to absorb some Siena culture, and to taste some Tuscan food and wine. Of all of the numerous tours we participated in during our two weeks in Italy, this one was the most enjoyable. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and had a delightful sense of humor. She clearly enjoyed telling us about the foods and wines we tasted both at the Tuscan Wine School, where we started our tour, and in the various shops we walked to. We left with a thorough appreciation of not only the food and wine traditions of the area but other aspects of the local culture as well. Furthermore, every minute of the experience was fun!
We were so pleased that we found the Tuscan Wine School and booked the Savor Siena tour, it was a fantastic experience and added to our visit to Siena. Sofia was a great host, very welcoming and knowledgeable and to start with she explained some history of the area in relation to the food and wine of the area. We tasted olive oil, Balsamic vinegar, cheese, honey, salt, local cured meats, ice cream and cakes, and are now completely converted to black truffle! Some of Mr Bini's beautifully-packed Ricciarelli made it home safely with us and are now being rationed out with a cup of coffee ... Can highly recommend the whole experience, and we are looking forward to going back to Siena and to the Tuscan Wine School - the wine tasting will be next!
We loved our experience with the Tuscan Wine School. My best friend and I signed up for the "Savor Siena" experience and it was really informative, fun, and tasty! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the wine and food process in Italy, and answered all of our questions. Unfortunately she could not share anecdotes about Siena with us due to a code against crossing food tours and sightseeing tours, but walking through the city with her was still great. I'd recommend this tour!
My husband and I booked the Savor Siena tour and got more than we hoped for! Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and helpful. We tasted several different types of foods from around Tuscany, including a walk to a local butcher, pasticceria, and gelateria. All were great quality and friendly service. The tour wrapped up with a taste of truffles, balsamic vinegar, and wines. Bellisimo!
My husband and I did the Savor Siena tour with Rebecca and had a wonderful time! We started out in the wine shop and tried a white wine and did small shots (yes, shots, no bread!) of olive oil. We then went to three different stops--a meat and cheese place, a coffee shop, and a bakery, where we sampled panforte and Ricciarelli (Siennese almond cookie). All of these places were very small, local shops that don't do mass production and distribution. We ended back at the wine shop where we sampled chocolate, balsamic vinegar, honey, truffle cream, white chocolate with saffron, and a red wine. The tastings were great, but the best thing was learning about the different foods--how they are made, how to determine the best quality, how they fit into Italian history, etc. Many of the foods you taste are available for purchase in their store, but they don't push anything on you. We decided to buy a lot of our souvenirs here because Rebecca had personally vetted all of the products by visiting the farms where they were produced and learned about their processes, which we really liked.
We did the Savor Siena Walk offered by the Tuscan Wine School and a a fantastic time. First of all, we were the only ones doing the tour, as other registrants didn't show that day (good for us!) and had the lovely Sara to ourselves. She was very friendly and shared a lot of information on Siena, Tuscany and its food and wines. The tour itself was nice, as we not only got to taste food, but explore bits of the city as well. The most amazing part was the gelato tasting, as we would have never found this tiny gelateria, but found it to be the best ice cream we had ever tasted! The tour started and ended in the Tuscan Wine School which ahs a small shop where you can buy local produce. We can highly recommend this tour!
My husband and I took part in the Savor Siena Tour through the Tuscan Wine School back in March. It was a cold, wet day, and the perfect thing to do to get us out and about in Siena. Our guide, Sarah, was so friendly & knowledgable. It was just us on the tour, so it felt like we were walking around Siena with a friend, learning all about her experiences, the city's history, and the region's food culture. I would highly recommend to anyone in Siena!
The Savor Siena tour was awesome! Our guide Johanna was very knowledgeable and a fantastic guide through the cuisine of Siena. Learned a lot about the wines of Tuscany, tasting and the food of the region....wonderful!!
We took the Savor Siena tour with Rebecca in June 2013. The tour started at her lovely little shop where we started with some olive oil and wine tasting before we ventured out into the streets of Siena. While we were out, we visited a number of local speciality shops tasting cheeses, meats, sweets and coffee before returning for some more wine, chocolate and honey tasting. The tour lasted for more than two hours and we learnt a lot along the way chatting with Rebecca who we found to be extremely friendly and genuine. She seemed to have a real passion for the local food and wine and it was particularly nice for her to share the story about her family's signature wine. Overall, it was an enjoyable way to spend a morning.
Johanna was a most excellent tour guide for Savor Siena, the only tour we took while in Italy! She was not only a wine and food expert, but being an American ex-Pat, gave us a unique perspective on life in Italy, since she'd been there for 7 years. Our tour was for only 5 people, all Americans, and she freely shared what life is like year 'round, explained why meats were prepared the way they were, walked us through different aged cheeses, types of olive oil, white and dark chocolates, and oh yes, the wines, both white and red. She even shared restaurants with us, and following her advice, had one of our best meals ever in Florence. I would recommend this tour to anyone, even if you hate tours! Thanks again Johanna for providing one of the highlights on our 25th anniversary trip to Italy.
Very nice place to recommend, away from the crowd, near the fountain of the panther. Go ahead with your eyes closed, you'll be pampered. Simple meal and excellent wine (normal is also and above all a wine bar) Sit outside, the tables are a little sloping but we are very well there. Welcoming is warm without being obsequious.
Our very good and informative tour (only 4 people) started with a small wine tasting where local specialties were also served. Giorgia our tour guide informed us about Chianti and special local foods (e.g. peccorino and chestnut honey). Afterwards, we started a tour of Siena and received information about Siena, including the various contrados and their symbols, the palio and also historical references. We visited a gelateria as well as a chiaccineria. Giorgia spoke both German and English (both perfect). Overall a perfect tour!
