This family run winery was exceptional. I found this on trip advisor and, probably unfairly, didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly the lunch was lovely and light, perfect for a super hot day with a beautiful view of San Gimignano's towers. The hosting was very good, not too pushy and a good level of knowledge. Our favourite products were the lovely thick aged balsamic oil and, as we knew a little about wines, they allowed us to try the PICO wine which is a small batch (500 bottles!) Sangiovese Merlot blend. This PICO wine was expensive but we aren't in tuscany all the time so we bought a bottle. We also loved their rich dark coloured rose (100 percent sangiovese). Even though this was a hot day they had great umbrellas and misting throughout the tasting. Can't recommend this enough. Just book it, you won't regret it.

Itinerary
The wine, Evo oil & Balsamic vinegar tasting with Tuscan meal will start with a short introduction to our farm in front of our Vernaccia vineyard, one of the oldest in San Gimignano. The Tuscan meal comprises 4 courses: a starter with Traditional bruschetta and crostini, organic pasta with a sauce of the day, local cheeses, cold cuts from Casa Porciatti, and our homemade cake. This option also includes a choice of at least four organic and biodynamic wines from Podere La Marronaia, such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti Colli Senesi, 6 kinds of extra virgin olive oils, natural and flavored, and 3 kinds of Balsamic vinegar. We will explain how to pair each one with the served food.

Immersed in the gorgeous countryside the tremendous wines and lovely lunch overlooking the vineyards took us a world away. Informative and fun. Thank you for a day to remember
Wonderful experience, family owned organic farm. Highly recommend! Wine and food were great. they ship to USA for free if you get 6 bottles.
Fantastic experience against panoramic scenery. The wine tasting was informative and delicious, and the olive oil was perfect with lunch. Easy process to ship purchases to the US.
Amazing day. The charcuterie board and pasta lunch was absolutely perfect. The wines were all delicious and the oils were amazing. We ordered a bunch to send home.
This was a perfect lunch. Great views, wine, olive oils and food. When they say light lunch- don't believe them. It's the perfect compliment to their wines and oils.
This experience was second to none! What a beautiful place! The wine was excellent and they catered to a non drinking friend as well with juices! Food was excellent and there was no pressure to buy! Beautiful experience!
Fantastic tasting experience at a stunning winery. It looks like Tuscany does in the movies, it is breathtaking. The starters were especially delicious. The olive oil and balsamic tasting was even better than expected. The flavored olive oils taste exactly like their flavor, very fresh and delicious. The wines were delicious as well. I bought some of each to send back home. I did want to note this is just a private tasting for your group, there is not a tour around which we were okay with but it does say there will be a brief tour in the description.
lovely spot and lovely lunch. The wines and olive oils were amazing. And the service was great. Highly recommend
A really enjoyable oil and wine tasting with good food and beautiful views. Generous glasses of wine!
This was an amazing visit. Wine was the best! The Olive Oil was delicious and flavorful! The knowledge of our wine guide was excellent. The food was amazing and paired so well with each wine. The outside venue and atmosphere was very relaxing. Out of the 9 days in Italy, this was a definite high point of the trip. You have to try it. They have so many different tours. When we make it back, we will have to do a cooking class. Thank you for an amazing day!
Great location. Good food. Okay wine. Our server/host was completely disinterested and distracted. Felt like he couldn’t get us out of there fast enough. Our time slot was 4:00-530 and by 5:00 they were putting things away. And the tour of the vineyard never happened
Great food, oils, and wine, amazing atmosphere! Worth it just for the views. Staff were very friendly and the wines selected were delicious!
Beautiful winery and excellent experience! Would definitely recommend to all my family and friends! The lunch and appetizers were delicious!
Friendly staff. Great food and wine pairing. Overlooking beautiful San Gimignano! Next time we will do truffle hunting cooking class
A very personalized tasting of high quality wine, olive oil, and lunch in a lovely setting. Not your typical mass tasting with small quantities, this was a meal with ample opportunity to taste everything
What a beautiful setting to enjoy olive oil, wine and have lunch. Our waitress was extremely attentive and explained how the wines we tasted were produced. We loved them so much we ordered six bottles to ship back home.
This was a wonderful experience. We reserved a table in the vineyard, one of three tables situated just above the vineyards but below the gardens above. The setting was beautiful and tranquil. We tasted four wines in all, and lunch consisted of 3 full courses, plus bread to taste the balsamic and olive oils. All the wines are grown and made there and are completely organic. We had 2 white, both Vernaccia and 2 reds - a Chianti and a Super Tuscan. with our meal. We also got to taste the original EVO and the flavors they infuse, along with their 3 balsamics. The food was wonderful. After the bread, there was a course with small bites, a mushroom crostini, white bean and onion crostini, a vegetable omelet and pizza. Along with that was pecorino, truffled pecorino, and three meats, a prosciutto, a salami, and finocchiona, a local Tuscan salami with fennel. We tried everything with the different oils and balsamic. We finished with their special pomodoro, which was bread soup, but the bread absorbed all the moisture, and ricotta gnocchi. Again we tried with all the oils. We added an extra glass of wine with dessert, a rose Prosecco for me which was light and fruity, and a Super popTuscan for my husband, which they served with chocolate, to allow a taste before and after. The service was wonderful, we were not rushed at all. Our server explained all the food and wine and answered all our questions. The views were incredible with the vineyard and olive groves. They ship to the US, and it was easy to order some to bring home and remember our visit.
Everything was just perfect! We enjoyed the scenery and tasting wine and oil. It’s definitely worth spending an afternoon
We had a delicious wine tasting and lunch on the patio with a beautiful view of the beautiful town of San Gimignano. The lunch and wines were fantastic with wonderful explanations and they were very accomodating with my husband's gluten and dairy allergies. Wonderful experience
One of our favorite things we did in our 2 weeks in Italy! The views were AMAZING, wine was divine and olive oil was delicious! Learning the history behind the family was an added bonus!
Great wine tasting experience, beautiful vineyard..would definitely recommend this tour to visitors.
Our tasting guide Sara was well informed and enthusiastic. The presentation was excellent. Two thumbs up for the whole experience!
We had a great lesson in wines of the region and a fantastic meal. This included olive oils and balsamic vinegar. The parings were amazing and the service was great.
The wine was excellent. We appreciated that it was from walking distance from San Gimignano. The food was excellent. The scenery was absolutely adorable. However, I would have appreciated a little visit of the facilities, were were brought straight to our table for the tasting
Great experience, great views! Wine was spectacular will definitely come back again next year with a larger group.
First the good: The surroundings are lovely with a very nice view of San Gimignano. The lunch was sufficiently filling to qualify as a lunch and reasonably tasty. The availability of 5 different Olive Oils and 3 Balsamic Reductions made for lots of different combinations with the bread provided. Finally, the white wines were surprisingly good. After the lunch/tasting we took time to walk around San Gimignano which was an enjoyable experience. I'm not sure we would have gotten there if we hadn't bought this Viator activity. The not so good: The experience felt a little "salesy" to me, and the prices seemed a little out of line. We were not enamored with the red wines selected for our tasting. The winery seemed a little understaffed with the "Wine Educator" having to serve several groups. What we came to understand during our week in Umbria/Tuscany was that most of the folks who go to tastings are not from Italy. They are mostly tourists like us from the USA. On that basis, it might benefit wineries like Podere La Maronaia to better understand the customer's preferences.
Having read the reviews, we were expecting more. The food was quite disappointing , nothing special and certainly no choice. The wine was actually exceptional and what we were expecting from a small organic vineyard. Even though the experience was private and in nice surroundings, I felt it was all geared around making sales to American tourists and the staff were more bothered about the sale than the experience itself. One thing to be aware of is that you can’t actually buy the wines to take away that day, only to ship by courier. We had an OK time so it wasn’t a bad experience , I just felt their hearts weren’t really in it and they could have offered more value and put a bit of energy into it !
Wonderful vineyard and the best Wine I ever tasted. Purchased wine and olive oil. Became a member! Real Great staff and genuine welcoming. Thank You!!! Ciao!!!
If I could give this place six stars I would! The staff, food, and views could not have been better. Due to travel issues on the way there we alerted the winery we would be late, and they were more than understanding. They were so knowledgeable about the particular pairings we tried and answered any questions we had. The food is all homemade and SO GOOD! The views are even better. They were kind enough to help our struggling group figure out travel back to the train station post tasting, and we are forever in their debt. If you are looking for a tuscan wine experience, look no further than here!
The food was perfectly paired with the wines and it was perfectly explained. The olive oils and Balsamico are fabulous as well as the different wines they were offering
People were lovely - wine and food was delicious! Our only comment, we would have enjoyed the food to come out a bit slower.
Our family of five had a wonderful time at the tasting tour. Gorgeous sunny day, the views are extraordinary. Our host Sara shared her strong knowledge of wine, oil and balsamic. The appetizer boards of cheeses, meats, breads, oils and balsamic were so tasty but the lunch option was a bit disappointing- gnocchi pesto and lentil dishes. We look forward to receiving our ordered items! We enjoyed meeting annd visiting with others at nearby tables. The meal shouldn’t deter you, the overall experience was still fabulous!
The food and wine were plentiful and very good. Sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. Expected a group tasting, but was private.
We had such a wonderful time at il Marronaia. We booked the Wine and Oil Tasting with Lunch and there were four wine tastings with our meal, two white and two red, and they were all wonderful. The meal consisted of a delicious antipasto, homemade lasagna with panzanella as a side and tiramisu' truffles for dessert. Along with our meal, we were given six different olive oils and three different balsamic vinegars to add to any part of our meal as we wished. Our guide gave us interesting information with each tasting and we were given the opportunity to purchase any of the wines, oils, vinegars, etc. if we so desired. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
This wine tasting was one of the best parts of our trip! The location was beautiful. the views overlooking the vineyards and San Gimignano were gorgeous and the shaded table was perfect! We tasted multiple wines, olive oils, and balsamic vinegars and learned a lot. The food was also amazing, we had a full 3 course meal! Highly recommend this experience!
We had an amazing time. Elegance beyond imagination. Staff is Top notch! Food and Wine were amazing!
Good value for money spent-4 generous pourings of wine accompany 4 course lunch-server very knowledgeable & pleasant, very good atmosphere-very Italian!
What an amazing experience! We loved touring the vineyard and winery. Lunch was absolutely wonderful. We had a shaded table with misters to keep it cool on a hot July day. The food and wine were perfect.
We were thrilled to partake in the Super Tuscan wine tasting. The chance to explore both white and red wines that step outside traditional D.O.C.G rules was an enriching experience. With a focus on the Sangiovese red grape, we discovered new tastes, aromas, and feelings that have made Super Tuscans increasingly popular. The tasting included organic and bio-dynamic products, along with delightful olive oil and balsamico. The bonus tasting of their exceptional rosé was a memorable highlight. For those looking to explore innovative and sustainable Tuscan wines, this experience is a must!
What a great experience! My husband and I went to Tuscany for our honeymoon and decided to do a wine tasting here. The reason we chose this place over the thousands of other options was the fact that you also get an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting as well. It was really nice to learn about the oils, vinegars, and wines of the area; our host was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions (forgot his name, too much wine HA). Our tasting was private, so we got our own table with a beautiful view of San Gimignano. They served ice with the water which I appreciated immensely. Also, the dog Rio stole my heart. I definitely recommend!
The winery was introduced to us from our private tour . First impression wasn’t great . The server was rather grouchy with us asking for a menu , as we were requesting for alcarte mains for the children as they won’t be drinking . Instead we had no choice but to order the set menu of €45 for them which was rather pricy . €50 was for wine and lunch . Was abit disappointed when I discovered that was indeed an alarte menu. Subsequent servers during the wine tasting and lunch were much friendlier. On the wine and food , it was good but nothing to shout about . We has better chantis from restaurants in Florence . Gnocchi with eggplant was kind of bland . The olive oils on the other hand were outstanding. For €50 , I would have expected better . The only thing that impressed me was the beautiful view of San Gimignano with vineyards
Beautiful setting and some delicious wines. Unfortunately my experience was tainted by a payment process at the end of the tasting that was either accidentally or intentionally tainted by the cashier requiring me to accept their processing the transaction in US dollars instead of the local Euro currency. This added about 5% to the cost of both my tasting bill and my wine order. I informed the cashier I preferred to process the transaction in Euros but was in a rush so went ahead with the cashier's insistence as she claimed that was how their bank required the transaction to be processed. The transactions should have been processed in the local Euro currency which would have given me the more favorable exchange rate. I hope this was just a staff training issue but it could have been intentional. I do not know.
First, it may totally be our fault that the experience was not what we hoped for since we were quite late due to train and bus issues. They kindly accommodated us, but it felt rushed and lacked the attention we expected based upon several other wine tastings we’ve done elsewhere. The “tour” consisted of a spiel that I doubt lasted five minutes in front of the vineyard. Was that due to us being late or it being an organic brand? Something else? Who knows. Either way, it was disappointing even though the people were very nice and the food/wine was tasty.
Beautiful property, excellent food and a relaxing afternoon of wine, cheese and oil! Would highly recommend for anyone traveling in the region.
the employees, location, views, wine, food, was all amazing!!! tried all kinds of olive oils, vinaigrettes, wine, and food!
The hosts were extremely friendly and the location was beautiful. Phenomenal home cooked food. Wine and Olive Oil made in house. Couldn’t recommend this enough
This place is magnificent! The landscape is absolutely beautiful. It is a family owned business and you are treated as royalty. The are very kind, professional and all of their products are wonderful. My wife and I bought a half-case of wine and oils. I have just ordered another half-case of only oil and vinegar; and I am preparing to order a full case of wine. I am just so in love with both the experience, the family and their products.
Quintessential Tuscany vibes. So cool to see second generation family vineyard. They are carrying on traditional methods with a dedication to quality. Views are excellent, food and wine were very good as well. San G town is definitely worth a day to explore.
The view from the property of La Marronaia is incredible few minute from San Giminiano make this winery a perfect place for a wine tasting and light lunch before visiting the Town. My entire group had a great time. Tours of Italy with Chef Marcello
