Lucca: Self-guided Tour By Bike With Map

As a family of 5, we really enjoyed the experience. Given we were staying within the old city, we were a bit unsure about hiring bikes from a company outside the city walls. They were very professional, easy to deal with and helped us get the best options for our 3 kids. Was a great way to take in Lucca and highly recommend this company.

Great fun. Cycling the walls is easy and flat and shady. Nice map, easy to follow with a guide book as well. Much nicer to cycle rather than walk when it was hot

Great day out. The maps were very helpful and the staff friendly and patient. We had a few stops on the way and should have allowed ourselves a bit more time, but the bikes were great and arrived back with plenty of charge left.

A lovely relaxing way to see the fascinating old city and surroundings from the great vantage points on the walls. And also to explore the narrow streets and beautiful piazzas. Good information provided so you don't miss any key landmarks. Easy collection and return of bikes. Cycling feels safe within the walls as traffic is light and mostly pedestrians and bikes. A wonderful day's activity.

Great fun and a perfect way to see Lucca. Really convenient for bike hire if arriving by train - the tourist center is just outside the station. A safe place to leave luggage for a small fee (5 euros). Bikes were well maintained, the map on the handlebar was helpful.

Cycling the wall was an unforgettable experience and the assistance at the shop was efficient and friendly. Using the bikes to then move about the city made it easy to get to different sites. We locked up the bikes at different points to stroll about.

Wonderful experience and very easy for our 3 children. The wall is wide and perfect for cycling on. We had to swap to a buggy as our youngest broke her arm 2 days before but it was easy to organise!

Tour operator was organized and helpful. Bikes were in good working order and a map was provided. I recommend this experience in beautiful Lucca.

Excellent way to explore Lucca around the walls. Lots to see and do and you can park the bikes up grab a bite and take the day at your own pace. Would definitely do this again

The bike rental was great! Biking on the city walls was a wonderful experience. The city of Lucca itself was not all that biker friendly in my opinion. But biking, like driving, in Italy is a whole different game!! Beware of Comic Con schedule … thankfully we were visited weeks before the event, however; the huge white plastic structure in the middle of town dynamically changes the ambience. The many around other tents around town were not as distracting.

I booked the bikes online having read the reviews on Trip Advisor and we weren’t disappointed. The bikes were adjusted for our heights, a map was handed over as well as a laminated map attached to the handlebars. We hired the bikes just further an hour, which in the heat was long enough. We ride mainly along the city wall which, being 40’ above ground level meant it was cooler up there.

This tour is a great way to get around and experience Lucca on a bike. And you can experience the city on your own timing.

The operator at the tourism office was very helpful to us as we were trying to track our luggage which was separated from on by the airline. We appreciate his assistance!

We loved biking around Lucca! While we didn’t expect to have trouble finding a parking space, once we parked our car and got the bikes everything was easy and beautiful!

E-bikes were very good, the guided route downloaded to the phone worked extremely well. The villas are interesting and lunch in Montecarlo at La Piccola Enoteca was a highlight. The trip back goes through fields at times!

A great way to see Lucca. We prebooked and picked the bikes up near the station and they were very easy to ride. You sat upright and had a rack on the back and basket on the front. A bell and easily adjusted seat. We had simple locks to secure them while we had lunch. The wall at Lucca is over 4ks long and the streets inside Lucca are long as well so a day trip is made all the better by riding a bike. No gears on the bike so they were easy to ride for us grannies. I had a bad hip so I was able to see all of Lucca!! Take your passport as ID is needed, they photograph it. A map of the bike trail is provided- laminated securely to the front of the bike. No need for an electric bike in and on the walls of Lucca as it’s pretty flat.

Great way to see the beauty of Luca at your own pace. The city has great bike paths and plenty of spots to park the bike.

As per other reviews , this was a delightful and no hassle experience . Lucca is beautiful and this is the best way to see the small town. Parking was easy beside the train station and the staff were very helpful and friendly . The map on the bike was adequate to navigate but if you need more detail go online. We had a picnic on the walls which are as wide as a main road with plenty of green spaces to shelter from the midday sun.

This was easily one of the most wonderful activities we did in Tuscany. Communication was Andrea before our arrival was incredibly responsive, patient and kind. It took just moments for our group of 6 to be fitted with bikes. The ride around Lucca was spectacular and drop off was instantaneous. We highly recommend this well-stocked, well-run and welcoming place!

The office is easy to find and the collection process was very simple. Easy to park at the station car park and then walk 5 mins to collect the bikes. The map provided is easy to understand and the navigating along the walls and into the town centre was easy- It is a really great way to see Lucca.

Beautiful city with lots of green space. The bikes were in great shape and had big baskets for our packs and little map holders to make stopping and looking at it very convenient.

We had a beautiful day riding bikes on top of the wall in Lucca! An easy ride, the beautiful scenery outside the wall and the unique old city inside the wall. Bikes were right outside the train station, easy pick up and drop off. We had a map of all the sights, a lock to lock our bikes and a very enjoyable time. We would do this again!

We were given a bike with a flip map on the handlebars and a separate book explaining what everything was. We were expecting something that we could check without having to stop. The bike was excellent, so save yourself some money and just rent the bike.

Beautiful place, weather, freedom of movement (if not counting pedestrians of course), good bikes. Recommend for skilled bikers as many obstacles.

Fun time exploring Lucca, the map and brochure explaining each historical site was great. The service was friendly and helpful.

Lucca is a beautiful city. It is surrounded by wide walls that form a most scenic bike path. And you can ride the bikes through the historic city at ground level to see the many piazzas, churches, and bastilles. The rental price for the bikes is quite reasonable and much less than if you wait to rent when inside the walls. The self-guided tour itself is a little difficult to read. It really is just a map that is keyed to a pamphlet with numbered attractions. Very low tech. But biking for my husband and me proved to be the best way to experience this city.

Great views from the city walls and a wonderdull medieval innertown experience. My tyre went flat but that couldn’t kill the pleasure.

Traveled out to Lucca from Florence for the afternoon. Beautiful small city with lots of funky shops and restaurants and an easy (but gorgeous) bike ride around the edge of the city. Perfect for an afternoon!

Biking around Lucca was such a blast! We had a group of 8 with our whole family together, and everyone had a great time. Riding along the wall path under the trees was a highlight for sure. And then riding into town down all the little cobblestone streets was super fun. Definitely recommend exploring Lucca by bike, it’s the best way to see this amazing little town!

The ability to see so much more of the city in less time. I have hip issues which limits the amount of walking I can do, but renting the bikes allowed us to spend the entire city inside and outside the walls. Riding on the beautiful walls was a memorable experience.

We loved our day biking around Lucca. It was so relaxing and enjoyable and a fun way to see the beautiful city. We took the train from Florence and were pleased how close to the station and & how easy the bike pick up was. Starting the tour was just a short distance away across the street, and the self guided maps on the bike handles made it so user friendly.

The map did not correspond to the descriptions. Confusing. Need clearer route and better English descriptions of sites. We ended up googling Wikipedia for information

Great trip. Would recommend. Ideally located right outside the station on the left. Friendly staff, very safe place to ride and explore.

I highly recommend this tour. I was nervous at first thinking I would not be able to find the store, however it truly is left of the exit of the train station. The store manager was very pleasant and set up all of our bikes. He also gave us two maps one that is laminated and attached to the bike for an overview of Lucca and the other with more detail and history on each point of interest. He also gave us a suggested route of riding around the hole town on top of the wall first and then dropping into it at the point of interest locations. Having your bike prior to entering Lucca was a great plan due to the amount of people within the town wanting to rent bikes after walking for hours. This self guided tour gave us all the information we needed plus quality equipment including a lock to allow us to take our time and explore what we wanted. We were able to get around the town well within the rental time with plenty to spare for shopping and dining.

Lucca was a lovely getaway from all the August crowds. We rented bikes and first rode on top of the city wall and then explored the city centre. The place is really nice and peaceful, so you can enjoy it either on foot or by bike. It has a unique oval main square (Piazza dell' Anfiteatro) with bars shops and restaurants. There is also an attraction, the tower (Guinigi Tower) with trees planted on top. As we enjoyed beautiful views from the city wall, we didn't decide to climb the stairs. It's a nice place, the whole city is almost like a hidden gem.

My family includes 4 teenagers. We pre-booked 6 bike rentals at Lucca and pedalled around the top of the wall. We picked up some sandwiches in the village and ate at a picnic bench on the wall. Beautiful couple of hours. It was a stop on our drive from Cinque Terre to Pisa and beyond. The bikes were in great shape and came with a helpful map. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
