Lucca Classic – Carriage Tour In The Old Town

What a fantastic tour, starting with booking to the end when I’d made new friends with both Luigi & Marika. I booked direct using a form on the website & Marika got back to me straight away to begin the communication. Her directions to the meeting place were comprehensive & it was therefore easy to find. We spent a few minutes getting to know Luigi & feeding him carrots. He is such a friendly & calm horse. Then off on our carriage tour. I have mobility issues so it was the best way for me to see the sights & combined with Marika’s knowledge of Lucca & its history I was very impressed. The tour goes at a leisurely pace & the carriage is very comfortable. Marika provides an extra step so getting in the carriage was easy. There are a number of stops along the way for Marika to explain what we’re seeing or for Luigi to stop to receive a treat from local shop keepers. He’s very popular 🩷 This trip was the highlight of my holiday & well worth the money. I saw & learned much more than I would have walking around. Next time I’ll do the longer tour to include the walls. This tour is definitely a not to miss.

Great horse and carriage ride with an excellent guide. We learned s lot and more importantly it was fun! Luigi (the horse) stopped in 4 restaurants, where he was obviously well known, to get a treat!

Highly recommend this tour - Marika is wonderful and Luigi did a great job too. We had a larger group, so we split up an 1/2 did an evening tour and the rest a morning tour. Both of these were raved about and Marika provides so much information. Our grandkids cite this is one of the top experiences on our trip. Highly recommend and, if possible, schedule for early in your stay to get a better sense of Lucca.

Very gentle horse. The tour was informative and our guide would stop in shaded areas to keep us cool. The children were able to feed Luigi carrots at the end. The trip was a little less than an hour, perfect for our 3 year olds

Wonderful, unique, and heartwarming. The beat way to see Lucca is from a horse drawn wagon.Dont miss it!

Marika & Mario (the beautiful horse) were lovely. We really enjoyed our time with them taking in all the sights of Lucca. A fabulous way to see the city. Marika lives in Lucca so knows the streets. Mario is gentle & has a couple of stopping off places where he receives treats. Very cute!

Our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable , we loved the horse Mario and how he knew which shop to stop at for a treat

Marika and her horse (Mario) were amazing. We really enjoyed the 45 min tour of Lucca Old Town. As a family with teenagers, we wanted to do a tour of Lucca to understand it’s history, but the kids didn’t fancy a 2 hr walking tour - Marika’s tour was absolutely the best option we could have chosen. Personal, informative, educational and fun! Mario (the beautiful and clearly very well looked after horse) knows exactly where to go and the bond between him and Marika was incredible. Mario even knows where to stop along the route to get a treat from some of the local shopkeepers - he just sticks his head in the door!! A fabulous tour, providing great value. Would highly recommend.

We had the best time with Marika and Mario, it was definitely the highlight of our stay in Lucca. Marika was so friendly and the tour was so interesting and informative. She helped us arrange to stow my mothers' wheelchair with a cafe at the start of the tour, nothing was a problem. Marika and Mario are so well known in Lucca that locals greet them by name and Mario knows just which shops to stop at for a treat! It's good to do the tour at anytime in your visit but if you do it early on it gives you a great feel for the city and it's history.

Marika and Luigi are a staple in Lucca Centro Storico. Luigi knows all the shops that will give him a carrot or other treat on their route. Marika gives an excellent tour of the center with historic facts that even many locals don't know. It's a charming way to experience this wonderful town.

One of the highlights of our 2 week trip in Lucca was this carriage ride! Marika took us to parts of the city we hadn’t seen and gave fascinating history of not only buildings but some local lore and customs. Luigi was a pro and thrilled everyone with his relationships to some shop owners. Truly enjoyable. Ciao, Maria and Luigi. Well done! Hope to visit again. 🩷

A brilliant tour round Lucca on a horse drawn carriage- so much history shared and some surprises along the way. One of the best 40 minutes of our holiday.

Highly recommend this tour. Marika is a real professional. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. A pleasure to work with. Her relationship with Luigi, the horse was impressive. We were 3 seniors 94 and 74. We would not have been able to see and experience the wonderful sights of Lucca without her. Real value for money.

Marika and her horse Mario are amazing. The relaxing and informative tour of Lucca should be at the top of you list of things to do. We wish we could have spent hours in their company as 70 minutes was far too short. This is a must do experience in Lucca, just look them up and enjoy. Marika is a great tour guide. She knows so much history and it’s a nice way to learn about Lucca! It doesn’t take up your whole day, so it’s easy to fit in your travel schedule. I highly recommend!!!

We had the a really great time with Luigi and his kind and clever, knowledgeable owner, Marika (I’m not sure, that was her name - So sorry about it!) It is a perfect way to explore that charming town, it is a gem! I wanted this carriage to be just like this - fun, interesting, and packed with lots of (but not too much!) information about the gorgeous Lucca. My 3 year old and 9 month old babies also liked it. They enjoyed the way , the whole town handled Luigi, he is a true superstar in Lucca!

On their recommendation, we booked the tour with Monica and Mario (the horse) for the next day. Totally enjoyable and informative—great way to learn about Lucca’s history while touring the town. What a memorable and wonderful tour of Lucca with Marika and her horse Luigi. We were shown numerous sights and given some history of the city. It ended with numerous visits to Luigi’s favourite shops for treats. We loved it!

This was a highlight of our trip! She is a delight and very easy to understand. We enjoyed the lighthearted tour through the streets of Lucca, enjoying the historical sites and local community vibe.

We had such a fabulous tour, my two boys loved it and it was a great way to learn about the history of the monuments of the city. Luigi (the horse) is a local celebrity and clearly has many fans around the city also!

This was a perfect way to see the layout of the center of Lucca. The guide, a very competent horse person, provided many details about Lucca that explained the development of the center and included structures that added to understanding the center. It was added joy to see children’s eyes light up when they saw the horses. And I knew that the horse knew where it could stop for treats but that was still fun to watch. Highly recommend the carriage ride.

Had a ride booked for the afternoon but the summer heat got too hot so the owner contacted us directly to change the time. Thank goodness. At 0900 it was ideal, we would have fried in the afternoon. Mainly of course the time was changed for Luigi the adorable horse. Unlike many cities and towns there only seems to be one operator so need to book. The carriage driver was brilliant at telling us about Luca and the history. Hilarious to see Luigi make his regular stops for snacks. Even at one point putting his head into a cafe and scaring a leaving customer! A must do in Lucca and glad to see the horses ( she has two who take turns) are looked after so well.

Amazing! Our host was incredible, teaching us about Lucca, encouraging the kids to “drive” Luigi, he is a happy horse who is loved by those in the tour - 10/10 experience!

Superb way to see the lovely city of Lucca. Marika is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and Luigi (the star of the show) is a real character and seeing people's responses to him as he walked around the city was wonderful. If you've got limited time to spend in this lovely city then take this tour.

Great tour! We learned a lot and had fun and laughs too. Marika is a wonderful tour guide, she told us many interesting things about Lucca and the history. She was also very flexible and waited until the rain stopped to start our tour. Her horse Mario also made the ride fun. Our kids learned and were entertained as well. A good deal for the price too. Magnificent! Such a relaxing way to see the beautiful city. Our daughter (6yo) loved it and was allowed to steer the horse. We learned so much and fell in love with Lucca! Gigi the horse was very popular around town.

This young lady and her horse are the best thing going in Lucca. The cost is low and the value high. They took us through many areas with excellent commentary at a leisurely pace that didn’t tire our legs. On a return trip I would certainly book her again.

Fabulous from start to finish! I booked this to treat my daughter as she loves horses and made sure this was a well cared for one...which Mario was. Great tour of the city with lots of interesting information which we wouldnt have got by wandering around on our own. Driver and horse were a delight and as we got longer than expected, was good value for money. Could do it all over again!

Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and gave a great tour! Luigi was a great horse too! The entire tour was slightly longer than planned which was great as you really get your moneys worth!

We absolutely loved Marina, the famous Luigi and this wonderful tour. We learned so much about Lucca, we were totally entertained by Luigi’s visits for snacks, and so impressed with both Marika’s knowledge of the town and history as well as her beautiful relationship with her horse. The verbal commands were astounding! Overall, 100% recommend.
