Itinerary
We begin our journey in one of Lucca’s main squares, bordered by majestic XVI-century palaces. As we cross this vibrant hub, we’ll head towards our first stop to dive into the local culinary delights.
While admiring the beautiful church and the lively square around it, we will taste the first traditional specialty of Lucca, the Buccellato, a sweet bread flavored with fruit and anise.
Next, we’ll make our way through Piazza Anfiteatro, the most iconic and picturesque spot in Lucca. We’ll stroll around this uniquely shaped square, once the site of a Roman amphitheater, before heading to the next stop on our gastronomic journey.
At this characteristic stop in the heart of the walled city, we’ll indulge in a plate of Tordelli, a traditional Lucca pasta filled with meat and herbs, served in a rich, savory sauce. A true taste of the region’s culinary tradition.
As we continue our walk through the charming streets of Lucca, we’ll pass by the iconic Torre Guinigi, a medieval tower with a unique garden at its summit, offering a glimpse into the city’s fascinating history.
In this lovely square, we will stop to enjoy a plate of fresh local cold cuts, perfectly paired with a glass of red wine, while soaking in the lively atmosphere and beauty of Lucca.
On Via Buia, we will sample Cecina, a beloved Tuscan street food made from chickpea flour and served warm and savory. This iconic dish is a true local favorite.
We’ll wrap up our food tour with a sweet treat along Via San Paolino, where we’ll indulge in some local chocolate and a traditional dessert, leaving you with the perfect ending to this delicious exploration of Lucca’s culinary offerings.

This was an amazing tour! Mattia was a wonderful guide — his passion and enthusiasm to share Luca’s history and culinary culture resonated throughout the tour. This experience has definitely enhanced our visit to Lucca! Being on this tour was like being guided by a close friend. Thank you, Mattia!
Amazing in every way! Our guide, Sacha, was knowledge and fun, a true delight. She offered a good mix of history and perspective on modern everyday life. And the food was fantastic! We tried all the local specialties and they were all delicious. Would highly recommend.
Walking all over seeing several churches and landmarks on the way to each destination. Food was fabulous and Valentina was an amazing, knowledgeable host with a great sense of humor. She made great recommendations even with a celiac person in the group. Would recommend this for anyone wanting to experience real food and wine. Fabulous just fabulous
Giordano was very knowledgeable and attentive to everyone
Fabulous experience, great food and a totally engaging host. Would recommend highly if you want to taste all that Lucca has to offer!
What a great time we had with Giordano. Fantastic food. Lots of interesting information and just felt like an afternoon spent with friends. Don’t hesitate to book!
We had a small group food tour with Denia and it was very nice. We had five stops and A LOT of really good food at small, family operated places. In fact, we basically had a full meal at one of the places we would have never found on our own. Denia was very personable and knowledgeable and she provided some suggestions for things to do in Lucca. I would highly recommend this tour.
Alessandra was lovely. Very knowledgeable about our stops, the food culture, and local history. We really enjoyed chatting with her about her background and the elements of Lucca on the journey.
What a fantastic experience! Sacha was an absolutely wonderful guide — knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate about Lucca and its food. She made the whole afternoon feel like an adventure with a friend rather than a tourist tour. The stops were perfectly chosen — from the prosciutto and pecorino at Tana del Boia to the incredible tordelli Lucchesi at Trattoria da Giulio (the dish of Lucca), the cecina at Pizzeria Pellegrini, buccellato at Taddeucci, and finishing with gelato at Caniparoli. Every stop was a highlight. What made it truly special was the small group size — it felt intimate and personal, never rushed. Sacha took the time to explain the history and culture behind each dish, and her enthusiasm was infectious. We left not just full, but knowing exactly where to go back for the rest of our stay in Lucca. If you're visiting Lucca, this is the first thing you should book. Don't miss it.
Having booked this months ahead, and travelled in specifically to Lucca for the tour, our hiking group of 10 were disappointed to find out that our tour had been ‘overlooked’ and wasn’t scheduled at all. The company was very apologetic but it was a huge oversight and disappointment!
Alessandra was a terrific guide. The food was outstanding and it was lovely walking around Lucca and getting to know a bit about the city.
Denia was fantastic. Local, lived in Lucca her whole life. Knowledgeable and passionate about Lucca and also local cuisine. Wonderful English. Charming personality. Highest recommendation. .
Our guide was called Denia. She was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. She kept the tour flowing very smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble
Sacha was an excellent guide for our food tour, injecting cultural insights, humor and personal warmth into our walk as we ate the most delicious bruschette with finocchiona, pastas, buccellato, gelato and cecina. It was a glorious afternoon!
My family and I had an incredible time on the Lucca food tour. It was a perfect mix of history about the walled city of Lucca and the excellent and unique food it had to offer. Our guide, Nicoletta, gave us a wonderful tour and was extremely knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions and brought us to some pretty amazing locations!
This was a great way to discover Lucca. Sacha was a fantastic guide, super friendly and fun. We had some delicious food, and learned about Lucca in the process. Highly recommended!
Great and tasty tour, I learned a lot, tasted good food and wine, and Alessandra the guide had great vibes I definitely recommend this experience, and I recommend to take it on you arrival day, so you can start your vacation as a local and know where to eat later
Alessandra was a great guide. It was an enjoyable experience
We had a fantastic time on this tour of the food, wine and winding streets of Lucca! Our guide Alessandra was lovely - very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about both the history of the region and the local specialties. A great fun trip we’d recommend if you’re in the city for a few days!
Denia was a fabulous guide. Very kind, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was also fantastic and a very good value.
Had a great time with Sasha and Denia. They’re friendly and knowledgeable. Sasha especially gave lots of historical information and fun facts about different locations. It was a great food tour with great food at 5 locations. Definitely left on a full belly. More food in the first 2 locations. Not sure the drink card is worth it, you can choose to get a drink at each location separately instead. The tour took about 3 hours total.
Awesome! Tour and great tour guide
Denia was great. A very sweet and kind host. Very knowledgeable about Lucca, the history, and all the places we were visiting. The food was great, some of the best pasta I’ve ever had
Perfect there is still no other word to say…
My husband and I had the best time! Alexandria was so friendly and made the whole experience very welcoming and fun. The food was also delicious! The experience was well worth the money - what a brilliant way to start our honeymoon. Thank you! We will stay in touch :) I was having too much of a nice time to take many photos!
The food tour was a great experience. Our guide, Alessandra, did a fantastic job and spoke excellent English. The food stops were great as well and the dishes were local to Lucca.
This tour had a an amazing menu with locations that were spread out in a way that we got to walk through and see so many of the gorgeous streets in Lucca. Our tour guide Alessandra was so knowledgeable and charismatic that there was never a dull moment on the tour. In addition, she was also very patient at each stop never rushing us and this gave us a lot of time to digest and socialise. Amazing experience!!

Denia was a fabulous tour guide, very knowledgeable and took the time to answer questions. She took us to some lovely traditional places, ones we didn’t even know were there. It was a lovely final night in Lucca for us and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
Awesome tour! We loved everything about it from our tour guide all The way down to the food we tried!
Danielle was an excellent guilds very friendly and lots of information given
Dania was excellent! She was super friendly and knowledgeable. We learned about the food culture in Lucca and had delicious food. We will definitely go back to try more of the foods from the places we visited today.
We did the food tour in Lucca yesterday. Alessandra was the perfect guide. We had 5 stops . Alessandra gave both a food and history commentary at each .She was engaging, humorous and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed great food , wine and ambiance. We will be back ! John, Mairin and Órla
Alessandra was a fantastic guide! We loved the many food stops, and got to try a great variety of local foods (including baked goods, pasta, meats, cheeses, wine, and gelato!) I highly recommend this tour!
Our guide was lovely. The food was excellent and gave us a broad view of the food. Typical for this region. When we have done food tours in the past, history of the town is often also given. This tour was strictly about the food so a bit more historical information would have been welcomed.
A really enjoyable food tour with a great variety of things to try and some very good spots along the way. The group was quite large, which made it feel a little less personal, but overall a good experience and a nice way to sample the local food scene.
Tiziana showed us the unique foods in Lucca and also pointed out the historical places along our walk (most of which can be identified from your own research but it is nice to have someone add to that experience). Each stop always has a different backup because this is Italy and shops can close with little notice, especially in August. Wonderful introduction to Lucca!
This walking tour of Lucca was very informative. The food stops were small, local restaurants that have stood the test if time. The food was delicious and Denia was a fantastic tour guide!
Viatours has never let us down!!!! Sasha was marvellous, incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and great fun. All food stops were brilliant and loved hearing the stories of Luccan/ Tuscan culture and traditions. Great pace and top spots to sit and watch life in Lucca go by whilst enjoying a glass of local wine. Thank you Sasha, you were amazing
Great experience! All the food stops were delicious and appreciated the mini educational historical information sessions along the way. Our guide, Alessandra, was friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. My husband was not able to walk very fast, especially in the August heat wave, but she was very patient and understanding. There were 12 people on our tour and all were lovely people we enjoyed getting to know.
Our guide, Sacha was absolutely amazing! She was very personable, knowledgeable and fun. We had a great time and felt like we were out with a friend not on a tour!
The food tour was absolutely amazing and one of the highlights of our visit to Lucca. We discovered many delicious local dishes that we would never have tried on our own, and we also learned a lot about the city’s fascinating history and traditions along the way. Our guide, Denia, did a wonderful job. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic, and you could truly feel that she was a local who was passionate about sharing her hometown. Her personal stories and recommendations made the experience even more authentic. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lucca who wants to experience the city’s culture through its incredible food.
Where did the Lucca Italy food tour with my family and the guide Alexandria was marvelous! The food spots were all well thought through. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Luca and we really had a great time. I would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful and tasty time! Denia was extremely helpful and a great guide on the tour. She brought us to very special locations each with their own story. It was very evident she took the time to curate the spots we visited.
Denia was absolutely fantastic. Great small tour. Good to get to know about the local area. Lots of delicious food. Would def recommend.
Corrado was a fabulous and knowledgeable guide- thank you! We enjoyed every meal along the tour and felt it was wonderful value for the experience!
I often take a food tour in cities but this one was very disappointing . The foods tasted were normal everyday food . We learnt very little . 3 of the tastings were done standing in the street in very high temperatures . There were 4 of us and we were joined by 2 others . The dynamic was slow and rather boring . The guide was very inexperienced and didn’t add much to the evening . Not worth the money .
We had a very enjoyable tour with Tiziana. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the pace was good. Tiziana was knowledgeable about Lucca and the local Tuscan customs and culture.
Quick overview of some of Lucca’s “famous” spots! Our guide Denia was a fun local who gave us insight into many of the restaurants in town. Now I want to go back and enjoy a full meal, especially at Trattoria da Giulia!
