1-hour Carriage Tour – Historic Center And Renaissance Walls

Marika is a wonderful guide. We loved every minute of our tour. Luigi the horse is beautiful and everyone in town seems to know him. We learned a lot about the history of Lucca and got a great view from on top of the wall. Loved it!

After much consideration, my wife and I agree that our tour with Marika and Mario (Marika's horse) was our favorite experience of our ten days in Italy, Three of those days being spent in Lucca. Marika delighted us with some of the history of this beautiful town and Mario amused us with his gentle disposition and apparent celebrity with the residents of Lucca. We will take this tour again some day!

A fantastic 90 minute experience exploring Lucca's old town and the city walls. We were met promptly at the arranged time in the Piazza Napoleone. We covered the old town with Marika constantly giving us interesting information about the sites, events, history.... She and Luigi navigated the tiny streets amazingly. Both are charming! It was very memorable and worth every penny (cent!).

What an amazing experience. Marika is so knowledgeable and accommodating and friendly. Seeing Lucca in a horse and carriage was the highlight of our trip to Italy.

What a great way to see Lucca. It was like stepping back in time. The slow pace of the carriage ride and the knowledge of our our driver Marika made the whole experience a pleasure. I highly recommend it. It is a perfect way to get a feel of the beautiful town of Lucca!

Marika and her horse Mario were fantastic! Marika is full of historical knowledge and Mario maneuvers the carriage through narrow streets with skill. He even stops at local businesses for a treat or two. The carriage is very comfortable and well maintained and you are often riding in shade. We have been in Italy for two weeks and this tour was a highlight! I would definitely recommend !

Not enough stars to rate this experience! Merica and Luigi (Gigi) along with Stefano provided an incredibly informative and fun tour of Lucca. Great way to get a feel for the city on your first day of a visit or anytime really. Gigi is a pseudo celebrity and gets treats from multiple restaurants along the tour. Merica is very informative and entertaining and you can tell she enjoys doing the tour and showing off her city.

Absolutely a must do in Lucca. Learned a lot and had fun. Watching Luigi stop at various cafes for his expected treats was priceless. Just wonderful

Amazing overview of the beautiful city of Lucca. Was happy to go also go along on the city wall. Tour guide was knowledgeable and well versed. Was a little hard to understand with his accent but happy he spoke English. Highlight of seeing Lucca!

Picked a 4pm slot on a hot day for our 1 hour tour. Alot of journey is shaded as worried about the horse. Guide, Marios told us alot about history of Lucca. Wind in and out streets then up onto the outer wall. Glorious.

The tour operator did not let us know that they would not be able to provide this booked and paid for tour!! Another tour operator with limited English assisted us and did their best but we do not believe we received what was promoted was what we received! Save your money!

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience than with Marika and Mario (the horse)! Marika was so knowledgeable and great with our two young daughters - Mario is a local celebrity and made stops for snacks at local bars and restaurants as he gently walked us through the entire walled city and on a beautiful ride atop the city walls. It is a perspective of the city you can’t get any other way and should not be missed!

Wonderful! This is the best way to easily get to know Lucca by open horse carriage. Marika deftly informed us of historical facts whilst guiding her sweet horse, Luigi at a slow pace all around the city & walls. Plenty of time for questions & photos. There is just no better way to tour Lucca! We are ladies of a certain age & could happily have done it every single day & saved out feet from cobblestones. LOL Seriously, DO NOT MISS this gentle & fun way to tour around Lucca. It is perfection. Delightful & well worth the cost! Molto Grazie, Marika (& Luigi!). We shall return!

Amazing! We learned so much about the city of Lucca and it was a wonderful, relaxing way to cover a lot of ground. The horses are well taken care of. I think this may be the only operator in Lucca.

This was a huge hit with the whole family. We enjoyed getting an overview of the old city and a little history of the area. It is a beautiful town and this was a magnificent way to see it. Our lovely driver was able to answer some general questions about what we were seeing (for example, what are the iron pieces set into the walls of the buildings?) The horse is obviously pampered and seems popular around town— he stopped twice to get treats from shop keepers.

My sister recommended this at the last minute, so we booked it and are delighted that we did! The history was incredibly interesting and we learned a lot about the culture of the people. We were able to take in so much more of this beautiful little city and enjoyed the romance of a carriage ride. It was like we were back in time. Marika was very friendly, knowledgeable, helped us with some Italian pronunciations and took our pictures. Her and Luigi were the best tour guides and I highly recommend!

My wife, Lynn, and I had been in Lucca for a couple of weeks and had done some exploring of the sites on our own. So, when two friends of ours decided to come to Lucca for a few days to visit us, I arranged this tour for the four of us. We were all so glad we did. The tour was absolutely amazing. Marika, our tour guide, was great. She is very knowledgeable about Lucca and imparted this information in an interesting and fun format. We all learned a lot about Lucca, its many churches, and its fascinating history. We were able to see a lot more of the city than if we were on a walking tour. I highly recommend Marika’s horse drawn carriage tour when visiting Lucca.

This tour is a must! Monica is so kind and Luigi is a wonderful horse! Our family of 5 loved it! Monica was a great guide and told us about everything we passed as well as answered any of our questions. She is so friendly and by the end of the tour she felt like a friend. Luigi is amazing!! He listens to all of Monica’s voice commands and is clearly well loved by all the people in Lucca- it was like being with a celebrity everywhere we went with him lol! This tour is an absolute must for an introduction to Lucca. We loved this town so much and will definitely be back!

This was a wonderful tour through the city of Lucca. Our tour guide is a local business owner and she takes much pride in her work and great care of her horses. She was very informative of Lucca and we enjoyed Luigi (the horse). Luigi stops along the way to get treats from local businesses, he knows exactly where to stop! After touring the city center we then went up to the city walls which has beautiful views of the city and the country. I highly recommend this tour!

Riding through the ancient streets and alleyways of Lucca in a horse drawn carriage was very unique and special. Our driver was very knowledgeable and provided insights into the life and times of the people of Lucca. The highlight was when Mario, the horse, stopped at a pizzeria, stuck his head in the door and waited for his treat of prosciutto.

Excellent experience and very nice host. Roamed around the city and toured it in one hour. Highly recommended if you need save a bit time especially.

We decided to take the tour as a starting point to provide an overview of history, places etc, prior to exploring the city further on foot. Marika is a fantastic tour guide, speaks perfect English and is very knowledgeable. Her horse Gigi was a delight and very well known to the locals! Marika's tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. We were able to cover a lot more ground than we would have on foot and learned so much about the history of Lucca. Her horse had a great disposition - it didn't even flinch when cannons were being shot off by reenactors on the wall.

We bought this tour from Viator, my first time using the company. The operator/driver was great at contacting us to make final arrangements especially as the weather was changeable. The tour was excellent, informative and relaxing and the horse was just lovely. We were picked up at our hotel in the center of Lucca and delivered back after a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

Marika and her horse Mario have given my family and me a wonderful time! The best way to get to know Lucca! Marika has introduced us to Lucca's sights and stories very knowledgeably and in very good English. In addition, it was very special to see how harmoniously, calmly and safely Marika steers her horse through the hustle and bustle of Lucca, very impressive! It was an enriching tour in every way!

We actually wanted to see the cathedral and then saw the carriage and the beautiful horse that just nibbled on its hay. Mario as it turned out during a very nice conversation with Marika. The two of them drove us through the city. You could feel the beautiful connection between horse and man that Mario and Marika have. Only with voice was the tempo changed or stopped. Impressive! Also impressive was Mario's composure in any situation and the driving skills of the two through the streets of Lucca. Which in some places are really not wide. Mario and Luigi (Marika's 2. Horse) are well known all over the city and the children were already calling from a distance which of the two it is (mega cute). Mario also has his treats stations at various shops in the city, where he then stops and sticks his head in the door 🥰😍 You just notice the two you can only like. On Top, Marika tells you great facts about the city! We even made a little trip to the city walls. Just a beautiful backdrop, just as the magnolias are blooming. By the way, Mario has a rubber fitting in town so that his irons don't slip and his tendons and co are spared. You can just tell the horse welfare is of very high importance to Marika. Overall, we were traveling around the hour. Truly a unique experience that really can't top anything

Walking with Mario in the center of Lucca was a really fun experience. With great professionalism and dedication to work they accompanied us on a tour of the historic center, explaining the monuments and periods of construction and evolution of the city.

Great way to see Lucca, and something we will definitely do again. During the tour we passed churches, towers etc. and got a nice story. It was great entertainment for the kids to see Luigi (the horse) stepping his head into the various shops for a treat.
