Amazing! An authentic Piedmont experience! We were lucky enough to find a good amount of truffles! The guide was very nice, the hunter was very experienced, and the dogs were fascinating! The wine tasting was a delightful lesson about the wines of the region. The owner of the wine shop is an extraordinary person! My husband and I, and even my 11-year-old daughter, loved the experience.

This was a really fun outing in nature, hunting for the elusive white and black truffles with three sweet dogs and their owners. The father daughter team made the search for truffles fun to watch and to be able to hold and smell these little gold nuggets right out of the ground…priceless. Every time I eat a truffle dish, for the rest of my life, I’ll recall this wonderful morning. I’m very grateful for our translator too, fun and professional. The wine tasting with cheese and fresh hazelnuts was also very educating and enjoyable. No pressure to buy wine however the wine shop owner is so passionate about her business and the wines of her area that you’ll probably want to take some home. She can ship but we live in Europe so just drove home with our bottles which we intend to enjoy with one of the truffle we bought from our hunt at the end. Including us there were 8 people in the group. They were all very nice and we enjoyed their company which also made this experience memorable. If you love truffles and wine from this area then I’d say this is a must.
A must experience! Learning about truffle hunting and how the dogs are trained was one of the most unique things we’ve experienced while in Italy. It definitely gives a new perspective when we are eating truffles. The husband and wife team, along with their dogs were warm, inviting and eager to ensure our group had a positive experience. Our tour guide was also wonderful! You can tell she loves her job by the enthusiasm she showed while answering our many questions. The combined wine tasting segment was also fantastic to learn about the specific wines of Monforte. The wine shop owner was informative and also eager for our group to enjoy ourselves! For anyone thinking about this experience, do it - you will have no regrets! What could be better than truffles and wine!
Such a unique and fun experience! Marina, Reno, Elio, Bruna and the dogs were fantastic. I would recommend to anyone who is traveling to this area to try it!
This was a truly unique experience. The first half was a truffle search experience with Elio and his dogs in a wooded truffle reserve. It was very fun watching the dogs locate truffles and Elio digging them up. The wine tasting with Melina at MonVino was fantastic. She gave us a great education on the area with samples of multiple varieties of wine along with local cheeses. Highly recommend.
One of the coolest experiences we have ever done! Very authentic and true to Piedmont culture! Would highly recommend!
What a great experience! Very experienced truffle hunter and dogs, welcoming and knowledgeable interpreter, wine education and tasting was top notch. We found 8 truffles- were able to purchase one and bri g it back for an amazing dinner tonight. Would highly recommend!
The drive to the small town is worth it to do these two separate activities. The truffle hunting is in the forest- you need a car to drive there. It is also not included in the price so you need 30-40 Euros pp cash to pay at the end and more if you want to buy the truffle you find. It was really interesting. Then you drive back to the wine shop for wine tasting. We took the light lunch option which was definitely worth it as we were starving by then and it was not huge but delicious and definitely enough food. Had a great 3.5 hours , even in the drizzle!
This was an amazing experience. We found several truffles and greatly enjoyed the wine tasting. Olio and Bruno were great with the dogs. Giancarlo food a great job answering questions.
All were excellent. Translator, truffle hunter, wine tasting! Outstanding from start to finish. Very good but not too long-winded explanations from all.Lady who did wine tasting (owner of the shop) was particularly good.
An absolutely amazing experience. We went in April which was a little wet.. however we still had a great time and found several truffles Later in the year is meant to be the perfect time so we can’t wait to return! The hosts were truely fantastic and we can’t recommend enough
We meet at the wine shop and then went in convoy to meet the truffle hunter and guide out in the forest. The guide was really lovely and had great English. The truffle hunter and his dogs were brilliant. They found about six truffles and told us all about training the dogs, the truffles and the whole process. Afterwards we went back to the wine shop and had a wine tasting and a delicious brunch. It was so informative and interesting and a great selection of wines. I would highly recommend this experience.
Our truffle hunting adventure was truly unforgettable! Despite the wet conditions, the dogs were absolutely amazing. Their keen sense of smell was nothing short of impressive, as they effortlessly sniffed out truffles hidden beneath the damp earth. It was a joy to watch them work, their excitement contagious as they unearthed these hidden treasures. Maria, our wonderful translator, was a delight! She was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all our questions with enthusiasm, making the experience even more enriching. Elio, the truffle hunter, was exceptional. His passion for truffles and deep understanding of the land added a fascinating layer to our adventure. He shared insightful stories and tips about truffle hunting that truly enhanced our appreciation for this unique activity. Overall, this experience was a perfect blend of nature, skill, and camaraderie. We left with not only a newfound love for truffles but also cherished memories of a fantastic day spent in the company of amazing dogs, Maria & Elio! Highly recommend this adventure to anyone looking to dive into the world of truffles! Grazie!!!
This was a great little adventure! We learned about the art of truffle hunting from an expert, loved spending time with the puppies and enjoyed the beautiful natural landscape.
Was an amazing experience, was well accommodated. Dogs were amazing and many truffles were found. Will be doing it again for sure
we have been with our dog Kuno- and it was comfortable and interesting - no problem at all - we also found several truffels we bought one and hat two meals with... unforgotable
We had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The truffle hunting was in the woods and boots were provided if desired. It was wonderful to be in the forest and see first hand how truffles are hunted. The dogs found a dozen white truffles. Afterwards the wine tasting was so informative and Marina made it intimate. We sample 6 wines and she even let us sample another before buying. She also provided information about the region and paired cheeses. I would highly recommend this package experience
Definitely something to explore. Very well managed And very fun. Elio And his two dogs are remarkable. Over 60 years of experience. We found both white and black truffles. What a beautiful Way to spend a morning, followed up with an excellent wine tasting and information about the region. This was one of our best experiences
Following the dogs and their owner through the woods was magical. This part of Italy is steep and dense. The tree canopy kept us dry from the rain while it held a light fog. Our host had been a truffle hunter for over 60 years! The guide was an excellent translator and we learned so much. Would definitely do this again.
Learning about truffle hunting and wine making in beautiful locations was a great experience. All the wines we tried were excellent.
We were in the Emilia Romagna region and we decided at the last minute to visit the Piedmont for a day. The experience of truffle hunting seemed unique, and based on the reviews here, we took a shot at it. It was probably the best experience during our trip -- and that is a lot to say since the other places we had visited had been amazing as well. We had even joked that we may find ourselves in someones backyard with a dog and pony show... but no, we actually went into the woods and saw the dog's ability to find and dig for truffles. Her name is Pina. It's so amazing how she could spot them. The truffle hunter was fully italian and the guide translated as he explained. Both are wonderful people. We then went to a winery to visit and taste three wines. They were all very good. The person making the presentation even recommended a handful of great restaurants to have lunch. My wife and I recommend this trip wholeheartedly.
Awesome experience! If you get the chance to do it, don't miss it !!! The staff was very helpful and the dogs are lovely.
That was a great experience! The tour guide , the hunter were very nice and professional. We love it! Thank you!
A must do!! Incredible authentic, experience with Veronica, Elio, and border collies Cuba and Chloe. Hunting for truffles in the Piedmont region, on Elio’s restored by hand private property, cannot get any better. A glorious walk through the forest (anticipate some hilly areas) while learning about the white and black truffle seasons and trivia ended with a fantastic wine tasting and tour at a family owned winery. We were shocked that we actually even found some truffles thanks to these superbly trained adorable hard working dogs and Elio’s years of experience as a true truffle hunter.
The truffles hunting was good but then we had a wine tasting of three wines and no tasting of local products. This makes the whole experience much too expensive
This was a once in a lifetime experience! We enjoyed learning about truffles and witnessing the hunt! The guide was very informative and the hunter very friendly along with his two dogs. I would definitely recommend this activity. What I would change is the wine tasting part, I think we could’ve gone to a more authentic italian winery and maybe included lunch with wine pairing.
We loved the truffle hunting. We did hike through the forest but it wasn't too strenuous or dirty (for those afraid of being outdoors without sidewalks). We are in fairly good shape. The English guide (Franchesa) was very informative and answered all our questions. The gentlemen and his dogs were pretty amazing to watch. It was about one hour or so in the woods, then up to a winery nearby for a wine tasting. It was a beautiful winery but it has one employee (the winemaker) and he was not as informative. You had about an hour at the winery touring and tasting four wines. Be sure to read the fine print. You must provide your own transportation as you follow the guide in her car to the two places.
I really love the experience. The host is a lovely person and you will lear averything you want about the trouffles. It was one of my best experiences in Italy.
Lovely outing in the forest and winery with a thorough explanation of the regional vicissitudes and activities. An escapade to the heart of the forest, a sweet encounter with tradition and nature just an hour away from Turin. Transport is an issue. Francesca and Elio are kind, patient, knowledgeable and generous.
We had a great experience with Elio and his two dogs. Francesca was an amazing guide from who we learned a lot.
I was looking very much forward to this. I spent a lot of money on it. We are staying in Turin and I even rented a car in order to get to Monforte D'Alba, so I could do this. I got a notice the day before the booking, reminding me to go. I got there and hour early and explored the town. At the appointed time, no one was there. I rang the bell at the municipal office and the nice lady called the company for me, and told me, "She is on the way." Another nice lady showed up to tell me that the whole thing had been cancelled and I had not been told. She offered me another tour at an other place at another time, in Italian. Which made no sense. I only had this one day, and I rented the car for one day, and drove over an hour to get there. Tripadvisor owes me my money back. And I have no idea how to get it. And this company owes Tripadvisor and explanation. The lady was very nice though, and she tried to get a couple of other people on the phone, to see if they could give me the experience.
Wasn’t quite sure what to expect and was a little nervous about the walking involved, not for me but for my dad. But the walking was slow paced and very easy and we didn’t go far. Accompanied by the truffle hunter Aldo and his dog lunar, it was a gentle stroll in to the woods where you learn about the skill and the history of truffle hunting. Take boots 🥾. It was good fun, informative and Aldo was pleased after finding 2 white truffles. From there we made our way to a local winery and tasted some more local wine 🍷. A good trip but quite expensive so if you can book locally I would advise.
We really suggested to take this tour. Intresting truffle experience and a wonderfull wintuor in historic wineyard. We suggested everuone who are intrested to join this experience. Thanx Veronica, Luna and Aldo for fantastic time to spending with you !
My husband and I had a great time with Francesca, Truffle Guide, and 2 dogs (Cuba and ?). We met at Monforte d'Alba and took about a 15 minute drive to the woods where we met our guide. We took a stroll into the woods that had some inclines so make sure to wear hiking or tennis shoes. The dogs would hunt and then signal back where the truffles were before they dug. The guide even let us try to dig for them. We got a lot of black truffles and saw 2 white ones that are not allowed to be extracted until August 31. Our guide gave us more background and context on the mushrooms and trade. We really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend.
the place is amazing, the hunting is great, dogs are so skillfully, really really suggest you all to go to Barolo area and take this experience so relaxing
Great Experience! Even although we didn't travel in its main season we were still lucky to find some black & white truffle. The tour guide was excellent and the master of truffles with his 2 amazing dogs were fantastic. Highly recommend!
very nice experience.. note that there is two hours wine tasting before the truffle hunting the hunter the guide and the door are supper nice.
Very interesting and informative, Luna the dog was the star of the show. Beautiful area and very knowledgeable guides and hosts. A real taste of the Langhe region. Highly recommended!
Not what we thought we had booked. Main scope was wine tasting and selling (should only be optional as per the tour description) instead of truffles hunting. Ok, Silvano greatly explained his business, but the truffles hunting was less than 1.5 hrs. The tasting of delicacies did not happen at all … as long as they did not sell us the wine as the local delicacy … All in all rather disappointing than exciting, and in this case way too expensive. We would not recommend to book this tour if you expect to get what is included in the description.
We had a great time with Elio and his dogs finding truffles in the forest, really wonderful experience and we learned a lot! Wine testing was excellent, however a bit too long introduction with Silvano in the winery which was under big renovation. The tour took more than 4 hours instead of the 3 hours planned
We paid 110 euros per person for a 4 hour adventure of truffle hunt and "taste the typical produce of the area with local Barolo wines" The reception was chaotic due to the previous day rain. They wanted to send us first to wine tasting at 10 am but we refused. In the end we went to the truffle hunt which was very good. The guide and the dog were excellent. He explained in detail all about truffles the dogs and took us for the hunt. This lasted about 1 ½ hour. Then he told us to go to some place to test wine. When we arrived, we had to wait for 15 to 30 minute. At that point we understood that you get to taste 3 wines and get some small snack and actually we were brought there in order to buy wine. We gave up. How did this adventure of 4 hours turn into ONE AND A HALF hours arrival and truffle hunt plus a commercial wine tasting worth 5 to 10 euros for 110 euros PER PERSON? Very disappointed.
Everything worked out great. Warm welcome and briefing for the tour, then a 10-minute drive in a convoy to the forest meeting point. The hike was incredibly exciting, educational, and thanks to great dogs Mia, Chloe, and Klein, Olli also productive. Afterwards, a very friendly and entertaining wine tasting. A successful excursion.
Everything was great except way too expensive / 4 bottoms of wine glasses that don't even make two full glasses - 1 small board with small slices of cheese and pieces (very small) not enough for everyone and 1 slice of salami per person.
Organization: perfect, very friendly support, truffle hunter, his wife and the dogs were unique, interpreter extremely nice, friendly and competent, very successful hunt with a total of 10 truffles found (black and white). Overall a wonderful, impressive and lasting experience!!
It was a super great experience. Super organized. Everyone is super friendly. We would do this truffle hunt again immediately.
Fantastic experience! The first half of the tour was truffle hunting with our guide, Elio, his wife and his dogs in a forested truffle reserve. It was impressive to see the dogs mark and find truffle before Elio (and the dogs) dug them up! Then we drove back by car in the beautiful countryside to MonVino and wine tasting with delicious local cheese and sausage. Melina at MonVino was amazing, and gave lovely service and guided us through a variety of wonderful wines! Highly recommended.
Wonderful experience. From the route from Torino to Monforte D’Alba, the reception of the Marina, the interaction with the truffle hunter his adorable wife and the 4 border collies, beautiful and expert. The experience had the feeling that we were at home . We found several white truffles and had the option of negotiating the purchase at fair prices. Then we went back to MONVINO and tasted 3 options of Barolo and Barbaresco. The Marina explained to us how are distributed regions, wineries and was an additional show. At the end even indicated us a place for lunch in the city of Barolo , Barolo Friends ! I'm saying 1000%! Ateh for children!
A very mediocre display! A truffle seeker who points out where the truffle is and a light lunch that was dramatic. I would advise anyone not to book this "experience". Far too expensive for what's on offer. We really felt cheated, and we weren't the only ones who felt that way. Disgraceful!
The truffle hunt with the dogs was very interesting. So is the wine tasting. Cheese and salami was served representatively on a wooden board. A highly recommended experience.
There is an excellent explanation of the region and its wines. Mr. Tartufio explains everything we want to know about his dogs and truffles.
