Itinerary
Built in the first half of the 13th century, the castle has undergone several architectural changes. The most recent renovations were carried out in 1961, to mark the centenary of Italian unification. The imposing redbrick building is based on a trapezoidal plan, with four sections arranged irregularly around the small main courtyard. It was extended in the 16th century with the addition of two picturesque round turrets; the coffered ceiling with 157 painted panels in the Hall of Masks dates back to the same period. Today the castle houses the "Cavour" Regional Enoteca, a restaurant and an Ethnographic museum of rural life. The latter features exhibits on a variety of themes: Cavourian relics, wines from Alba in the Roman world, 17th and 19th-century local kitchen settings, wine glasses, objects relating to Albas food and wine traditions, the workshops of a blacksmith and a cooper, an 18th-century distillery, farmyard implements, weights and measures, information about truffles.

Empty. Boring. No reason to visit. Take a pic from outside and see the view. Not suitable for disabled.
We had no idea what to expect from Grinzane Cavour Castle and when our guide took us there first, we were delighted from the start. It's an amazing castle, in a gorgeous location, and it's a fabulous introduction to Piedmontese wines and vineyards. So interesting, so educational but not overwhelming, And there are lots of English language signs and descriptions, so we got an enormous amount out of our visit.
A must-visit for anyone staying in Langhe. The castle itself is beautiful, and offers an extremely educational and informative experience for anyone who's interested in learning about the region's history, as well as past and present winemaking. We loved our visit and look forward to returning soon. We returned a few days later at night to take pictures of the castle which is lit up every night with the colors of the Italian flag, and it was beautiful to see at night.
Very nice castle and extensive museum with everything you want to know about wine. Also has a restaurant and enoteca if you’d like to try local specialities.
As soon as I set eyes on this spectacular medieval castle, I was awestruck by its magnificence; especially as was was surrounded by snow which only added to the fairytale atmosphere. I enjoyed exploring the interior museum and afterwards had a delicious meal and beer in the castle courtyard. Grinzane Cavour Castle was one of the highlights on my recent trip to Piemonte.
A stunning 11th century castle, built and expanded across the subsequent centuries, in a dominant position on the top of a hill, with a breathtaking 360° view on the surroundings, especially on the world famous vineyards of the Langhe, aligned in precise parallel lines like well combed hair, alternated with just as well kept fields cultivated with hazelnuts, another of the local essential crops of the region. Inside, the Piedmontese Regional Wine Shop, where one can find some among the finest wines of this area and, thus, of the world.
Everitage Place in The wounderful landscape of The Langhe hills, It lasted for twe century as The Best Place of The zone
Excellent signage, easy to find. Beautiful setting. Expansive views. Modest entry price. Several floors with interesting displays and objects that are explained well in English as well as Italian. Some video. Nice little cafe we used and a fancy restaurant with a Michelin star that we did not visit. This was the best presented castle/ attraction that we visited in Piedmont. Highly recommend it ... as long as you can climb a lot of stairs.
Everything is ok!! Perfect experience
Beautiful self-guided tour of the castle, which for us was the most beautiful in all of the Langhe. At the beginning, a well-made video will guide you, explaining the Count of Cavour and the evolution of the lands around the castle.
Wonderful, imposing! On a rainy day like today, everything was certainly more evocative, a must-see stop! P.S. We don't know his name, but the bartender at the café was fantastic; besides being very friendly, he gave us directions and ideas for our tour in the Langhe, which started right from the castle; among other things, for lunch, he recommended an osteria in Alba where we had a divine time! Very talented! Thank you
I visited the Grinzane Cavour Castle and was truly impressed by it. The structure is perfectly preserved and offers a fascinating journey into history, immersed in the splendid landscape of the Langhe. The museum rooms are well-kept and rich in information, while from the outside you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding vineyards. The Regional Enoteca is also very interesting, where it is possible to discover, purchase, and taste some of the best wines of the territory and typical products. The atmosphere is quiet and evocative, ideal for those who love history, culture, and food and wine. An additional point in its favor is that animals are allowed, making the visit pleasant even for those traveling with their dog. An absolutely recommended stop for those visiting the Langhe: a place that combines beauty, tradition, and unforgettable panoramas.
This is where Cavour was mayor. The exterior is very striking with a 360-degree view of the hills, featuring an educational path about grape maturation. Inside, there is a grocery store and a bar that serves appetizers with a very skilled bartender, a sommelier. The visit to the rooms lasts about thirty minutes. Convenient parking. Well-maintained castle.
The castle towers majestically over the small hill. In the background you can see the maritime Alps of Piedmont. That's nice. The museum, too. But that's all.
The Castle of Grinzane Cavour: beautiful structure, perfectly preserved and immersed in a breathtaking landscape; the hills of the Langhe seen from here look like a painting. The visit to the castle is rich in history and curiosity, with well-equipped rooms and paths that tell in a clear and engaging way the figure of Cavour and the winemaking tradition of the territory. Also very interesting is the museum dedicated to truffles and local culture. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the organization impeccable. It is one of those places where care and respect for cultural heritage are perceived. An experience that I recommend to anyone visiting the Langhe: fascinating, suggestive and absolutely not to be missed.
Beautiful, we found a very sunny but cold weather, early January .. but we recommend the visit! The view is breathtaking panoramic!. Go on...
Despite having been several times in the Langhe, we had not yet visited this wonderful castle! Beautiful outdoor area, a real open-air museum and very interesting interior where in addition to the history of Cavour, it becomes a museum of the territory and I must say that it is done really very well, I absolutely recommend it if you are in the area!
Castle visited outdoors, formerly home of Camillo Benso Count of Cavour. Very nice, well-kept both the building and the park. Spectacular view, parking very close, very comfortable climb on foot although slightly uphill. Passing in the surroundings to be reckoned with.
Very nice and well maintained castle. For wine lovers it is a perfect place. Many explanations about wine and Cavour's life. I recommend it
Visit well organized by the volunteers of the fai, the visit lasts over an hour and all we are told is Interesting, good Silvia the guide but good also the rest of the volunteers. The castle lends itself very well to a guided tour. Being full of works of various kinds. Congratulations, everyone. 5 euros in two decidedly well spent.
The castle, at least from the outside, is very particular, but entirely not so interesting, although the large wine press at the entrance is undoubtedly something unique.
Very scenic and well maintained outside, spectacular view but inside is less interesting. There are several steep stairs to access the various rooms. Interesting and exhaustive is the initial part of the tour dedicated to the figure of Camillo Cavour who gave a boost to the oenology of the area modernizing it when he held the office of mayor of the country.
A pleasant discovery, we were accommodated about an hour by road but it was worth it.We took the day to be able to do calmly.
An unmissable stop, excellent setup, driving and panorama. Maybe a little cute the entrance (13 euros with visit) but still worth visiting
esperienza bellissima, la guida e stata esaustiva su tutto. ho scoperto cose nuove che non sapevo sul castello grinzane cavour - da fare ...... giardini bellissimi e bel vedere fantastico delle langhe
Guided tour that costs 12€ instead of 8€ and is really worth it. Very good guide, who makes the best taste the manor. Inside there is also a very good restaurant, by chef Alessandro Mecca, who in TO had 1 starred restaurant: changing location, you lose the star but you can obviously regain it.
Castle from outside visible for free. Nice place. Inside there is the wine shop where you can shop and taste. With a ticket of 8 euros you can visit various rooms (there are some stairs but they are very feasible, nothing challenging). Many curiosities about wine and peasant and count life. Recommended
Beautiful castle, spectacular views and beautiful walks in the surroundings among the vineyards. Possibility to shop for wine and local products
As well as other castles in the area, this too found second life as a museum. Certainly interesting, it still gives glimpses of the past, but much of the old charm has been lost.
Fabulous castle, well preserved, containing the Langhe Museum, very well organized. Rooms and audio/video stories very well structured. Breathtaking views of the surrounding vines. Very interesting to know the story of a giant like Camillo Benso Count of Cavour with the production and care of wine. Only negative note: inaccessible for major disabilities, only flights of stairs and no possibility of an elevator or ups and downs.
Arriving in the park, we were pleasantly surprised both by the castle and by the outside. The tour is in the form of a pleasant tour through the castle with breathtaking views of the surrounding villages. We took an audio guide to get the explanations in French. A visit to recommend if you are in the area.
The TripAdvisor service was definitely from 10 and also the castle was worth its visit the only flaw was the lady at the ticket office very unfriendly
We visited the castle which is looked after down to the smallest detail, the museum is really well kept and is explained in every detail. We ended the visit with tasting and purchasing wines in the regional wine shop. Sincere thanks to Simona and Tiziana who were able to advise and assist us in a friendly and professional way
Eravamo stati al castello molti anni fa. Ci ha fatto molto piacere vedere come e’ stato ristrutturato e valorizzato. Molto bello!
Wonderful place with spectacular views of the Alps. Inside the castle there is the Regional Enoteca with an excellent selection of wines.
Castles always have something exciting about them and I never fail to go and visit them. This cannot be defined as a real castle as it lacks a specific history. On the other hand, the visit was very interesting but only because the guide who accompanied us was very nice and engaging. On site you can taste/purchase good wine at non-prohibitive prices.
Enchanting location, excellently preserved, well-kept exteriors and breathtaking views. a jewel
Small castle also home to the Piedmontese regional wine shop Cavour. Built in the 11th century, it also belonged to the family of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour. Really worth a visit. We recommend it.
Built on top of a hill, the Grinzane Cavour Castle dominates, with its beauty, the stupendous panorama of the hills: You can already see it when there are a few kilometers to go. It is surrounded by hills and vineyards of the Langhe. It is very beautiful outside but inside it offers few panels and the price is high considering other castles in the area.
Nice, very informative museum in the middle of the Langhe vineyards. We really enjoyed the visit. The museum allows you to understand the crucial role played by Cavour in the history of the reputation of the region's wines. Great discovery! The introductory video and the exterior explanatory courses are very well done. Furthermore, the very well maintained castle offers a superb panorama of the surrounding vineyards: magnificent views, it's beautiful! We appreciated even more that it wasn't crowded at the end of July. Very nice visit. We recommend
We were first attracted by the exterior, with this beautiful, enriching little walk before arriving at the castle. Not knowing much about wine, but enjoying drinking it, we read the explanations and illustrations in Italian, English or French on the region, the wines, the owners. A very pleasant course with a breathtaking view. As soon as we enter the castle, we are very well received and benefit from an audio guide also in French. Neither too long, nor too little... You will have understood, we recommend this visit! Sophie and Eric Belgium
Beautiful, well organized fabulous place in the hills of the Langhe reasonable price even the bar offers great things
Although the gloomy day did not allow you to enjoy the best views , it was a really pleasant visit . The castle is small in size but restored and with many intriguing passages. To emphasize the rooms with the original peasant objects and the room of Camillo.
The castle is well maintained and has a beautiful garden. I found the cost of the ticket/offer ratio disappointing. You can visit few rooms, with few memorabilia and many didactic panels. It is more interesting the path outside on the grapes, the vine and the wine production cycle, always possible through panels. The guided tour and audio guides should be included in the price. Disappointing. Among other things, the most beautiful room, the one of the masks, was not open because it was occupied by a private event. Oh, wow.
Surprisingly very interesting! We did not expect such a pretty visit! The route is fun, the rooms visited picturesque!
Splendida esperienza tra storia e natura con splendidi panorami. Castello molto ben tenuto sia all' interno che all'esterno.
Beautiful castle, cared for inside and out, vote 10 also because entrance allowed to dogs. To see inside and out.
I booked on Tripadvisor, as soon as we arrived they let us in immediately. There is no physical guide but there are signs explaining the story or maybe you can have an audio guide. Very nice castle, beautiful view.
Molto interessante e in una bella location, nel pieno centro delle Langhe. Personale Gentile, percorso interessante e molto bella e articolata anche l’enoteca: consiglio!
