Paloma was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and fun. She gave us the perfect blend of history and adventure. We loved visiting Tulum with her and discovering Maya culture and history. Definite highlight of the day was visiting the Santa Cruz cave and cenote—it is a magical place. Highly recommend this experience!! Armando was our driver, he was also excellent.

We took the private Mayan Underworld tour with our college-aged daughter and her friend during our first trip to Mexico. While most of our time was spent relaxing at our resort in Riviera Maya—by the pools and beach with books and cocktails—we wanted one excursion that would give us a meaningful introduction to the region. We specifically chose a private tour to avoid crowds and the feeling of being rushed, and this experience delivered exactly what we were hoping for. While I don’t have a comparison point, I would highly recommend this tour—especially for first-time visitors. Niko was our driver and guide, and he was outstanding. Every aspect of the day—from booking to pickup, guiding at each stop, lunch, and drop-off—was seamless and thoughtfully handled. The day began with an on-time, accommodating pickup at our resort, followed by a smooth drive through morning traffic to Tulum in a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained vehicle. We stopped for coffee upon arrival and then headed into the archaeological park (with parking and admission included). Niko guided us through the major sites with clear, engaging, and well-informed commentary. Next, we went snorkeling in Akumal. Rather than the most crowded areas, Niko took us to a quieter, protected inlet with rocks and coves and a nice diversity of fish. Unfortunately, the weather cut this portion short due to thunder and lightning, but we appreciated the location—it felt safe, manageable, and not overly crowded. Snorkeling equipment and flotation vests were provided. Our final stop was a semi-private cenote about 20 minutes inland. For roughly 90 minutes, we had the cave entirely to ourselves. This was a highlight of the day. Niko guided us through with great care, explaining both the geology and the significance of cenotes in Mayan culture, and even pointing out bat habitats along the way. We walked about half a mile through waist-deep water before reaching an open cenote approximately nine feet deep, where we swam and enjoyed a rope swing. We exited via a short, scenic walk. The day ended with an excellent lunch at a small restaurant in Akumal (included in the tour), followed by a comfortable return to our resort. Overall, this was a beautifully paced, well-organized, and memorable experience. We felt taken care of at every step and came away with a much deeper appreciation for the region. Highly recommended. This time of year, we did not suffer from the mosquitos (though we were prepared!!). Advice-bring cash. Paying the balance of the tour, providing a tip for the driver, and having beer and margaritas at lunch require cash. We had both pesos and US dollars. Also, we wore our bathing suits under our clothes, and brought towels, which made it easier to transition from the ruins to the snorkeling. We did change at the restaurant, though it is very much a beach town restaurant and we would have been fine staying in our suits with a coverup had we wanted.
The trip was wonderful! Tania was such a great guide and so informative of the tour. The ruins were spectacular and the cenote was super cool! Lunch was a nice way to end the trip. Would recommend this tour!
My husband and I recently enjoyed the Tulum & Cenote tour. Not even the rain could dampen our good time! Carlos was amazing the Best tour guide ever! So informative and wonderful- highly recommend!!
Fantastic day! We had Iber as our tour guide, he was friendly, flexible, knowledge and punctual. Highly recommend this for a memorable experience!
Me, my husband and our two kids (6 and 9) recently returned from the Yucatan. We spent about half of our time in Telum. By far, the high point of our trip was the tour we did with MexicoKanTours, our guide Paloma and our driver, Axel. Axel and Paloma picked us up promptly from our hotel at 8am. They were immediately welcoming to our entire family (the youngest of which were a bit grumpy about our early departure due). We drove to the ruins and on the way, Paloma explained some of the history of the indigenous people. We toured the ruins for about an hour – and throughout the tour, Paloma was very attentive to each of us (making sure we used the bathrooms when we had the chance, offering water, suggesting photo opportunities and indulging my 6 year-old’s preoccupation with the iguanas.) It was exactly the right speed for my family. We learned a lot about Telum (“Zama”) and were also allowed the space and time to take in and enjoy the stunning scenery. From there we traveled to a cenote. Our experience at the cenote was nothing short of spectacular. Again, on the ride there, Paloma described the different types of cenotes in the area and showed us pictures of the birds and other animals who live in the area. It is hard to describe our experience at the cenote itself because it was incredibly special. The cenote itself has a certain spiritual quality but it was also the way that Paloma led us through the cenote that allowed us to attune to this wonder of our natural world. We swam and played in the crystal blue water of the Cenote before we headed back to the van. We finished with a delicious lunch where we had the chance to chat a bit with Paloma. We were a week in the area but somehow, the half-day we spent with Paloma and Axel will be what we all think of when we think about this trip. Thank you, Paloma.
From start to finish, this private tour was absolutely incredible! Our guide, Alondra, and driver, Victor, went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable experience for our group of 16. We started with a visit to the breathtaking Mayan ruins in Tulum, where Alondra shared fascinating history and insights about Mayan culture during the ride. Her knowledge and passion truly brought the ruins to life. Next, we explored a private Cenote, where we hiked through an underground cave river—an exhilarating and magical experience! It was an adventure for everyone, even the youngest in our group (age nine), and definitely a highlight of our trip to Mexico. To top it all off, we ended the day at a fantastic local Mexican restaurant, where I had some of the best fish tacos of my life, paired with an amazing margarita. Alondra was not just an excellent guide but also a wonderful person—warm, friendly, and engaging. By the end of the day, she felt like a friend, and we were sad to say goodbye. If you’re looking for an adventure that’s fun for the whole family and truly unforgettable, this tour is a must!
Our tour was amazing and perfect for a mixed group of four families with children of different ages. Alondra was the best tour guide we’ve ever had and would highly recommend her.
This was by far a favorite adventure of our trip. Our 15 year old said the cenotes was the coolest thing he has ever done. Alondra is a fantastic guide and quickly became family. We would follow her on all the adventures.
Alondra was amazing in explaining the history and background for the ruins and the meanings of the cenotes. She took the time to lets everyone have a positive experience.
This half day tour really hits the highlights without taking up a whole day of your trip. Carlos was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about the archeological sites (as well as good picture spots), it made a huge difference having him there. The cenote was beautiful both in the water and out. We finished our tour with some delicious tacos. Highly recommend!
We had an incredible experience exploring the Tulum ruins and a private cenote with our tour guide, Paloma, and driver, Victor! From the very beginning, Paloma felt like she was part of our group, making the whole day feel like a fun, laid-back adventure with friends. She shared amazing insights into the history of the Tulum ruins, cenotes, and Mayan culture. The cenote on this tour is hands down one of the coolest places you'll visit, and Paloma made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy the natural beauty at our own pace. Highly recommend!
We did a tour with Marco to visit the Tulum ruins and Santa Cruz cenote, and it was an absolutely amazing day! Marco was so very knowledgeable and friendly, a top notch guide. The ruins were stunning and the cenote/cave tour was spectacular. We finished the day with an amazing lunch that was beyond delicious.
I would definitely recommend this tour. Great day with our guide Paloma and driver Carlos We got to understand the history behind Tulum Ruins, had great Tacos and then got to swim in Sian Ka’an
Arnie gave us an excellent guided tour of the Tulum ruins and 2 different cenotes. He provided interesting information and insights into each site. The trip was scheduled perfectly for us to beat the crowds and we could really enjoy each area thoroughly.
Arnie is a fantastic guide! He taught us so much about the Tulum ruins and the ancient Mayan culture. We loved the two cenotes, each was very different than the other, so we felt like we got a really unique experience. Annie let us spend as much time as we wanted at the cenotes and took plenty of pictures for us. I couldn't recommend this trip more!!
We had an amazing time with MexicoKan Tours! Marco was very informative, kind, fun, professional and safe. It was an amazing experience to have a personalized tour. We managed to avoid all the large crowds by arriving early. He even took us to a local Mexican restaurant that was phenomenal! Thank you so very much Marco, I hope to see you again!
The entire trip with Iber was amazing. He was a thoughtful, engaging, and knowledgeable guide that made the entire experience more enjoyable. We had excellent weather, great views, and a wonderful cenote adventure. Highly recommend!
This tour was wonderful! Our guide, Paloma, was especially fantastic, and she made this tour our absolute favorite one of our trip. Since our hotel was near the ruins, we had debated just going to see them ourselves and booking a different tour that didn't include the ruins, but we were so glad that we had Paloma as our guide through them to share all her knowledge about the history of the structures and land. It made the viewing of the ruins much more meaningful. The private cenote and underground caves leading to it were also our favorite places we visited on our trip (we went to 4 other cenotes and they were all amazing, but this one was the most incredible). There is something truly magical about the energy in this place, and Paloma guided us through it with a respect to place and history that was inspiring, made us feel connected to it, and made the experience really special. The timing of the tour was also just right, as we seemed to have places nearly to ourselves while we were there. The driver, Oscar, was also great and got us to each spot in good time and it was nice to be dropped off conveniently to get straight to the experiences while he went and parked. Highly recommend this tour!
The tour guides were so engaged and it was obvious they love what they do. I’ve never learned so much and had so much fun!
Iber was a fantastic tour guide and kept us entertained from the moment we entered his vehicle. He is very passionate about Mayan history and went out of his way to educate us on points of interest. The little things Iber did during our tour is what made this trip so special. He made sure we got the best photos at just the right angles at the ruins. Iber also made us feel very safe in the cave cenote. Be aware that the cenote in this tour is not a big open chamber like you see when you Google pictures of cenotes online. This cenote is a rare experience of an enclosed cave with only 1-2 small openings to the sky. It can be very claustrophobic at times, and there's tons of catfish and bats in this cave cenote. It was a beautiful experience overall and I wouldn't travel with anyone other than Mexico Kan Tours!
Excellent tour of the Mayan ruins and Cenote! Our tour guide, Niko, was terrific throughout. He is knowledgeable, easy to understand, and very accommodating. There were three phases of the trip: 1) Ruins; 2) Cenote; and 3) lunch. The ruins were beautiful, although there was a lot of restoration work being done and there were a lot of visitors. Niko gave us an extensive history of the culture, architecture, and customs. The Cenote was my favorite part. I was a bit claustrophobic when we first saw the entrance but that went away quickly when we entered the cave and saw the amazing beauty. The air was pleasant, the water was clear and cool, and the geology was breathtaking. Lastly, we had an amazing, authentic lunch. I had the best fish fajitas I could have imagined. Thanks Niko for making the trip amazing! Steve
Alondra exhibited remarkable insight and enthusiasm in sharing information. Her passion for her work was evident, adding depth to the tour’s rich history and providing comprehensive answers to various inquiries. For this particular tour I would have like more spot to stop at with more refreshments. Overall it was amazing and I 100% recommend it.
We did the EBike Tour…..Amazing Tour! Our Guide Alondra was super knowledgeable and interactive. Our favorite part was the views from the ruins. If you are worried about being able to pedal or are a little less athletic like myself, this is definitely the tour for you. I loved that the e-bike did most of the work for me. My only concern was the seat. Over the ride, it became a little irritating. Ask for a cushion!
Had a great experience biking around Tulum! We got to see the ruins, eat delicious tacos, learn about the local bees, and then swim in a cenote. Would highly recommend! Alonda was so knowledges and an excellent guide.
It was awesome trip Cesar our guide full historical knowledge professional accurate it was Fun time organized in detail explaining every monument its not as beyond my expectations highly recommend
We thought it was a very good tour. Alondra was a very good and friendly guide who told us a lot about Tulum and the Maya culture. The information Alondra provided made the experience at the ruins much more interesting. Swimming in the cenote at the end is a nice refreshment to finish. Definitely good value for money and would definitely recommend!
We had an amazing time!! Thank you Ursula for all the tips, local stories, and cultural knowledge! We learned so much and enjoyed the honey farm, cenotes, ruins, and tacos!
This trip with Mexico Kan Tours was the highlight of our stay in Tulum. Especially after a very tiring and unpleasant tour with Easy Tours, this was simply the best of the best. Marco and Israel were very professional, punctual, and pleasant. Marco's knowledge of history is very impressive. The cenote he took us to was without a single soul and all for us. It was super peaceful. We went to also explore a secret cave before reaching the cenote and that was out of the world. I highly recommend you book this trip - it's worth every penny!
We only had time for a half day excursion. This trip was perfect. We got into Tulum early before it was too crowded. Carlos shared so much information. We then headed to the cenote for the second part. We were underground for a long time-40 minutes or so. NOTE- it sounds scary…dark, tight spaces, bats, but it really wasn’t. I’m a bit claustrophobic and do NOT like bats. I was not uncomfortable even once. Once again Carlos had so much information to share. We ended with a delicious lunch. It was a great half day trip!
This tour was an amazing experience! Free of hassle, beautiful nature and an amazing guide (gracias Marco) made this a highlight of my recent trip to Mexico. Would recommend to anybody who likes ziplines, swimming and delicious Mexican food.
We booked this tour the night before on a whim, so that we didn't have to navigate Tulum solo on our first day in town. Said was our guide and he really made the day special. He knew a lot about the Tulum archaeological site, and we had a perfect amount of time there, first guided then on our own. From there we went to the cenote, which turned out to be so much more amazing than I expected! It was like spelunking in a cave and swimming in a magical swimming hole. If I hadn't trusted Said I honestly wouldn't have gone in, because the entrance looked like a scary hole in the ground. But it was just the most wonderful experience. I don't have the best balance but Said took his time with us. And best of all, he made a point to take fabulous pictures of my husband and I. We don't usually take many photos when touring, preferring to remain present. With this trip we had the best of both worlds. I highly recommend this tour!
This tour was AMAZING and even our teens loved it. Our tour guide, Said, was fantastic and super patient with us after 1 - there was some confusion over the pick up time and 2 - we left our water shoes at the hotel (yes you will need them). Once we got rolling we thoroughly enjoyed the morning. Tulum is beautiful and Said was very knowledgeable and informative and took lots of GREAT pictures of our family. The cave cenote was awesome and my kids said it was the best thing about the whole trip. (It's not for anyone that doesn't like tight spaces and you definitely need your water shoes!) Highly recommend this tour and Mexico Kan Tours in general as we did two tours with them during our stay in Cancun.
We had an absolutely amazing tour with Niko! My friend and I opted for the private Tulum Ruins & Cenote Tour and it delivered beyond our expectations. It was really fun to get the personalized information and spend time in a small group in each of the locations. We also learned about all of the other tours available and plan to partake in more then next time we are in Mexico! Highly recommend Mexico Kan Tours as well as Niko as the guide!!
We had an amazing time with Said! He explained everything so well, took great care of us, and the cenote was incredible! We didn't know we would be underground, but we loved it! We got back around 12:30, so lunch was not included (the description made it sound like it would be). But Said recommended a vegan restaurant in Tulum and it was delicious! We were able to arrange the private tour on short notice. We will recommend the tour to our friends.
This is the first review I’ve ever been inspired to write, based on the quality of our experience. Our guides Marco and Macarena were informative, engaging and truly made the day special. Macarena was especially so generous and helped make the kids in our group break out of their shells and comfort zones and try new things. She was really a perfect guide. The Cenote tour was one of the most beautiful experiences we’ve had. Truly special tour and guides.
Me and a few of my girlfriends were in Tulum to celebrate the bachelorette, and I can 100% say this experience was so much more than I could have hoped for. Marco was our guide and honestly, he made our trip! His knowledge, personality, experience and understanding of the overall geology and Mayan Culture was so impressive. We wanted to him to hang out with us for the rest of the trip! Exploring the underground caves and hidden cenote was a truly magical experience, and he couldn't have done a better job at making us feel safe and secure. Even the food he prepared for us was incredible. Thank you Marco! Exploring Tulum with you as our guide was the highlight of our trip. This company is so lucky to have you - cheers to new adventures. If you book I highly recommend asking for Marco, you will not be disappointed.
Our group of three booked a private tour of Tulum and a visit to a cenote (Santa Cruz) through Mexico Kan tours for a Friday in late January - overall it was a hit. Our guide was Cesar, who was knowledgeable about the history of the native peoples. He brought laminated visuals with him that helped immensely. He clearly loved thinking about the history of the world and was able to answer our questions. Although he was not fluent in English, we were able to follow along well at Tulum as he explained the purpose of the different structures. We then went to cenote Santa Cruz, which was SPECTACULAR and felt private. We were not offered helmets, which is something I wish I had once we got into the cave with stalagmites. I would caution against this cenote if you have young children or individuals with stability issue - it required a lot of physical dexterity. We did see a bat. That being said, the location required a 15 minute drive off the paved highway and the combination of the bumpy road and basic sedan suspension left me a bit queasy. Mexico Kan tours provided the most delicious homemade snack bars, as well as a vegetarian burrito of black beans and rice. The banana bread was tasty. Our hotel pickup was around 7:30am and we got back to the hotel near Punto Morelos around 3pm. TIPS If you arrange for hotel pickup/dropoff through Mexico Kan tours, please know that the guides do not know where every hotel in Quintana Roo is located. I would encourage you to expect delays with your pickup (even for a private tour) and especially if it's raining. Go to Tulum on an overcast day. We had about 90 minutes at 8:30am without sun or rain and it worked out fabulously... I think it would have The bathroom near Tulum's official entrance was shut down during our visit, causing us to double back to the parking area (about a ten minute walk). Try to use the bathroom in the tourist shops near the lot. Bring a raincoat if rain is in the forecast. Cesar was prepared with one extra thankfully, but I regretted not bringing something more waterproof.
Iber was our guide and was WONDERFUL! He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Mayan heritage and contributions to history. We had a great day with him. We did the private half day tour: started with some snorkeling then off to Tulum, the ended the day a Santa Cruz Cenote and a fantastic lunch. We were so comfortable with Iber and it took away all the stress of trying to see things on our own. Khan tours makes it so easy by providing the small private experience and taking away the stress of trying to plan it on your own. Loved the experience so much we booked another tour of Sian Ka’an 2 days later. Great memories created over 2 great days! Would highly recommend again to those looking to see the real thing and looking to experience the richness of the area.
Tulum ruins are amzing, with temple on the cliff overlookung ocean, other structures. Un fortunately regulat tours give no more than 2 hours. But it takes more time to just walk around, enjoy that ambience. And meet some iguanas :-)
This was our third tour with Mexico Kan Tours. It was a private tour with just the three of us. Our guide Syed was amazing, very knowledgeable and personable. The scheduled times of the tours were great because we got to beat the crowds of tourists. The cenote location was great as well since it was not crowded. It was also a plus that the cenote is owned and operated by a Mayan family. He took lots of pictures for us and knew the best spots. We highly recommend this tour!
This was our first time using a tour guide for our travels and we have no regrets. Iber was a fabulous tour guide that was knowledgeable and fun. The cenote tour was amazing with a bonus of some meditative silence. Definitely bring a hat for the tour of the ruins and comfortable water shoes for the cenote.
We had an amazing tour with Sky, she was absolutely lovely. We visited three gorgeous cenotes and had the best experience, got to see turtles, and plenty of fish as well as having great jumps and dives. Sky took us to the best spots at the best times so we could enjoy a very crowd-less experience, we had the cenotes almost for ourselves, and we even got a lovely meditation with Mayan singing. Absolutely recommend the company, and if you're lucky to have Sky as your tour guide, you're in for an amazing experience.
Our guide Said was excellent. He is vey knowledgeable about Mayan history and culture. The first part of the tour focused on the Tulum Mayan ruins, and it was filled with interesting information and beautiful scenery. The second part of the tour was our favorite part. We explored the Santa Cruz cenote -- it was an unforgettable adventure we will never forget. Said was a terrific guide as we explored and learned about the local geography and landscape. He made us feel comfortable every step of the way, and took amazing pictures for us. We had a delicious picnic lunch. It was simple but very delicious and authentic. I will recommend this tour, as well as Said, for having a great tour of Tulum.
We traveled to Playa Del Carmen and did a day trip to Tulum to tour with Mexico Kan Tours. We did the half day tour with Cesar! It ended up being just my husband, myself and another tourist from the states that was on our tour. 100% recommend! Started the day by meeting at the tour office, got fitted for bikes and helmets, were greeted by the most kind staff and offered bananas and homemade breakfast snacks. Each tourist was also provided with an additional water bottle, you may also leave items to pick up for the cenote at the tour office where they keep everything secured. The first leg of the journey was a 25 min bike ride to the Mayan ruins - Cesar was awesome! He had amazing knowledge and passion about the history. The ruin tour was beautiful (approx 1.5 hours). We loved learning that Cesar is working toward being a history teacher - my husband and I are teachers too! After the Mayan ruin tour we biked about 25min back to town to a local spot for lunch, delicious food! Headed back to the tour office (10min ride) and grabbed our towels and backpacks for the cenote! The ride to the cenotes was about 30-35min through the city and some trails. The cenote was beautiful! Well worth it! TIPS: *Bring EXTRA water *Bring your backpack to carry EXTRA water and BUG SPRAY to the Mayan ruins - we got eaten alive by the mosquitos because we only sprayed one layer early in the AM and had left our gear at the office. *It's HOT HOT HOT in the summer so sunscreen and hats are a must! *There are picnic areas at the cenote so you can totally bring your gear with you there too!
My girlfriend and I arrived in Tulum ready to explore. Tulum has so many people on the street trying to sell you tours but you never know how legit these booths are. So we were happy to see a professional office on one of the main roads “Mexico Khan Tours.” We decided to do the Tulum Ruins with the cenote and zip lining which was awesome. Our tour guide was Marco and I can honestly say he made our trip! His knowledge, personality, experience and understanding of the Mayan Culture was so impressive we booked another tour, the “Mayan Underworld” and requested his services. Everything from the underground caves to the food he prepared for us was incredible. Thank you Marco! Exploring Tulum as our tour guide was the best part of our vacation. This company is lucky to have you - best of wishes. If you book I highly recommend asking for Marco, you will not be disappointed.
This tour was amazing. Iber is a very good guide. He is passionate and transmit his passion for his culture and for his country history. Going through a cavern and a finish swimming in crystal clear water was awesone
This tour wouldn’t have been the same without our tour guide Iber. Informative on the Mayan sites, great personality, and just an overall blessing to have guiding us.
We visited 3 Cenotes and had a lovely homemade lunch - Our guide was knowledgable about the Mayan history and cenote historical importance. Was definitely a highlight of the trip!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AMAZING TOUR! We did a 8-person bike ride from Tulum to tour 3 different cenotes. We stopped to have brunch in the jungle at Meli Melo and also a lunch beer to carry us through the ride. We had an incredibly fun day and learned so much. Our guide, Pablo, was absolutely fantastic & we talked about how much we enjoyed him our whole trip! Will be recommending you all to everyone I know coming to Tulum! Gracias Pablo y Caleb!!!
