We had such a great tour with Rodrigo! He was knowledgeable and cheerful and enthusiastic about Mayan culture. He made everything easy—organizing everything, picking us up in the morning, driving us to Coba, taking us around the ruins on bikes. It was so much better than trying to do it alone. Highly recommend!

We loved this tour. The Coba Ruins were epic and Rodrigo was a super nice and knowledgeable guide. He picked us up and dropped us off at our condo at the north end of Half Moon Bay in Akumal. He drove us out to the ruins through a couple of mayan villages where we stopped for drinks and gifts. He gave us a great tour of Coba - we rode bikes through the shady jungle and learned so much about mayan culture, history, language, archaeostronomy, and the forest ecosystem. Before we headed home we all had cochinita pibil at a mayan place nearby and it was so good. All-in-all a great day.
Our guide, Eli, is very knowledgeable about the Mayan history and Coba. He has a good sense of humor, too. The bicycle taxis were fun. We enjoyed the tour very much.
Eli was beyond fantastic. Very friendly and energetic and more importantly for this tour he is incredibly knowledgeable about Maya history and culture. We learned so many fascinating things about Coba and Maya history. It was exactly what I wanted for this tour. If you want to see Coba do it with Eli!
I travel to Tulum 2-3 times a year & I always tour with Yucatán Eli’s Tours. I usually tour with Eli but this time I toured with Rodrigo. They are both the best tour guides ever. They are so dedicated to the history of the Mayans & make the tours fun & interesting. They always have water & snacks & umbrella to block the sun or rain. Coba is really pretty. We rode the trikes with a guide. That was a good way to see Coba. I love the fact that their tours are private. I highly recommend Yucatán Eli’s Tours.
We booked a private trip to Coba with Yucatan Eli’s Tours. From beginning to end they made the experience amazing and so easy. They arranged stress free pickup in a clean private vehicle. Our guide Eli shared an abundance of information with us about the history and importance of Coba and he made sure we got to everything possible. His knowledge of the site and Mayan history overall was top notch. I can’t wait to come back to Mexico and book more tours of Mayan sites with Eli! Book with Yucatán Eli, you won’t regret it!
My daughter and I visited the Coba Ruins with Eli, and it was an unforgettable experience. We were staying in the south part of Tulum. Eli picked us up at the hotel and we drove for about 45 m to our destination. I understood the importance of Coba only during this visit: this is the only Mayan city that was completely preserved after Mayas left it. The city remained untouched by other pupulations, it preserved it's original late classic Mayan features. The city is located in the middle of the jungle, it is mindblowing to imagine 40,000 people living there. We feel lucky to have Eli as our guide: is an exceptional guide as well as a lovely person. He has a vast knowledge and an infectious passion for his culture. You will feel like those few hours are not enough, you will want to hear more and more. This tour truly felt like having a friend picking you up to show you around the places he loves, and that is priceless. Eli was punctual, erudite and fun, sensitive to our needs, drove us very safely and even took us (per our request) to look for a small gift for a friend, and waited while we purchased some last minutes souvenirs in Tulum. I used to be a tour guide in a different country, I know that this is a difficult job: you have to combine impeccable preparation, enact your best social skills, be patient, empathic, indefatigable. Eli was all of this and much more, a miraculous human being. I know that we will contact him again on our next Mexico trip. He ignited a new curiosity for the Maya culture, we are starting our homework with Popol Vuh, as Eli recommended. And we will return. Thank you, Eli! So, yes. Go visit Coba, you cannot miss it. And do it with Eli.
Rodrigo was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, easy to do this trip. Was on my bucket list to see ruins and Coba is must see from my perspective. Pictures don't really do the setting justice!
Rodrigo was the absolute best! He was kind, caring and knowledgeable! We are a bit mobility challenged and Rodrigo was more than patient and helping. I strongly recommend him!
Rodrigo is exceptionally knowledgeable about Mayan history and culture. Very informative and he was also a gracious host.
Had a great time with Rodrigo who took great care of us! On the drive there he made sure we were comfortable, dropped some facts about the area and he stopped briefly to get us some fresh coconut water which was delicious! We stopped briefly by the lake which was beautiful. At Coba he was so knowledgeable, had great upbeat energy and took lots of pictures of my sister and I. We didn’t feel rushed and we learned a lot. On the way back we stopped to get some souvenirs. He knew the best places to go. Highly recommend.
The entire tour took about five hours. We were picked up at our hotel at 8 AM and it took about an hours drive to the site of the Coba ruins. Rodrigo, our guide was thoroughly knowledgeable and made the experience memorable. The private tour was a relaxing and no stress way to see the archaeological site.
This was an excellent tour! Rodrigo was very knowledgeable and friendly and went out of his way to take outstanding care of us. Would recommend this tour, and Rodrigo, with the highest praise.
HIGHLY Recommend! We always do private tours in Mexico in order to ask all the questions and go at our own pace! Great communication! Arrived on time! Was prepared with umbrellas and inspect repellent for us as well! No complaints! Fun time with Eli! Really enjoyed the tour! 😊🌴
Fantastic tour! Rodrigo, our guide, was fantastic. Super knowledgeable, super excited to give the tour, and a wonderful host. He was punctual, answered all our questions, and taught us a lot about the Mayan culture and civilization. Totally recommend!
Our tour guide, Rodrigo, was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, fun to be with, and took excellent care of us! Great sense of humor and could answer all our questions about Coba, the Mayan culture, and even the natural surroundings. Totally recommend!
Our tour was perfect for us! Rodrigo was a great guide! Knowledgable and personable, with great English. This site has bicycle taxis which made it so much easier for us to see all of the significant ruins. Going in the morning also made the tour more comfortable...not as hot, and there was a breeze. Thanks for a great outing, Rodrigo!
We had a fantastic time with Rodrigo! He was super knowledgeable! We learned so much about Mayan history. Great experience and itinerary! Rodrigo is the best!
Rodrigo was a great guide and driver. We had a very safe and comfortable drive from Playa del Carmen. He is very informative and an excellent conversationalist. We had an excellent conversation on both the ride out and in, each about 1:40. The Cobá site is excellent and well worth the tour with a great guide as Rodrigo.
We had the most amazing tour with Nelson at Coba! We did the private half day tour and it was great! Nelson was so knowledgeable about the Mayan history and was very engaging. Even our 18 & 16 year old boys loved the tour:) Plus, he picked the best spots for photos. We also stopped for a quick bite on the way back to the hotel as we were all a little hungry and had the best tacos of our entire trip! So glad we booked with Yucatán Eli! Definitely recommend it.
100% would recommend. Tour guide was very friendly and made the trip a great time. Our guide Rodrigo was very knowledgeable of the area and gave us a great understanding of the area and its history. He took lots of great photos for us as well. Definitely worth while.
Fantastic experience. Tour company was communicative leading up to the trip. Guide (Nelson) was friendly, informative, and fun! Highly recommend!
Going with Eli and Rodrigo is absolutely the best way to see and learn about Coba and the Mayan culture. They are lots of fun and attentive to every detail. Would definitely use them again for other tours.
Such an amazing experience riding bikes through the jungle and exploring ruins with our family. Eli was such a wonderful guide- friendly and so knowledgeable about Maya history and culture. We got to the ruins early and had the area mostly to ourselves during the tour which was just magical. Eli was engaging with our kids (4 and 8 years old) telling Mayan legends of 2 brothers that were turned into trees in the jungle that always grew next to each other. He was so sweet and patient when our 4 year old needed to take breaks on the way back because her legs were getting tired. Can not recommend Yucatán Eli’s highly enough. We plan on booking another tour with them next time we are in the Tulum area. Thank you so much Eli!
It was a great day at the Coba Ruins with our tour guide Eli! We were picked up promptly and immediately felt comfortable with Eli’s friendly personality. His knowledge of the ruins site was extensive and his understanding and enthusiasm for Mayan culture and history was evident. We rode bikes through the jungle and investigated the ruins at our own pace. When our tour was over, and we were driving back to the hotel, Eli gave us additional information on many other activities in the area and great places to shop. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Many thanks from Ontario, Canada
I can't say enough about Eli's enthusiasm and positive energy for what he does. He made us feel great about an 8 a.m. start to our adventure. Eli was very informative, patient and entertaining, providing lots of laughter throughout the day. The private tour was the way to go. He was at our service for whatever, and when we offered to pay extra for an extended shop for souvenirs in Tulum, he agreed and told us to take as long as we needed. Diane, Bayfield, ON, Canada
Eli was a great tour guide. He really took his time taking us through the ruins, providing a lot of information that I'm not sure we would have gotten hiring a guide on site. He took some great pictures for us and also dropped us off at another destination rather than our hotel so that we could continue our day of exploring.
Great tour. Eli was friendly and knowledgeable. He answered our questions and did not hurry us. We were very pleased. He picked us up in Akumal and did all the driving.
Interesting half day tour of the ruins. Great you can either hire a bike to cycle to the site or else let someone else take you there. A pity you can no longer climb the ruins but good it’s being preserved for future generations
We had a great time with Eli as our tour guide. We had a private tour. Eli was very knowledgeable about Mayan culture. He left us with a lasting impression. I will never forget my time with him. I would really encourage to request him. I think you’ll get a powerful experience. He can also take you to remote ruins.
Our guide Nelson was professional, polite, prompt, and wildly informed on all topics related to the ruins. A+ would recommend to any one.
Nelson was a wonderful tour guide. He was friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable. He could see his passion for the Mayan history and the joy he had in sharing it with us. He even added an additional experience of tasting authentic Mayan tacos. Then, in addition, the Coba ruins were stunning. So even those it was insanely hot and humid, we enjoyed every bit of the tour.
Amazing experience very informative and easy. Great communication before, excellent guide who took care of everything. Loved it
My son and I had a fantastic day touring the Coba ruins with Nelson. He was a phenomenal guide and was so knowledgeable and went the extra mile for us throughout the whole tour. He provided such insight into the history and culture. I honestly can’t imagine getting a better tour. He took his time and explained and pointed out everything to us. He answered all our questions and truly seemed to enjoy sharing his immense knowledge. Do yourself a favor and take this private tour. We even stopped at a local roadside restaurant and had the most delicious tacos. It was the best meal I had my entire trip!
Our guide Elli was great. He was friendly, knowledgeable and answered all our questions; a great conversationalist. We particularly appreciated being picked up and dropped off at our hotel given it was a very hot day. Thanks Elli. Best day.
Such a good trip. Eli picked us up and Nelson guided us through the site. You can tell they both love their work and history. It was wonderful cycling through the site, stopping to hear the history and watch the wildlife. Nelson also knows his birds which is great for us as he helped us identify a few new ones on the trip. I'd thoroughly recommend this!
Eli gave us an incredible tour of Coba. You can tell Eli loves this work and is very knowledgeable about the Coba ruins and the Yucatan region. We really appreciated the conversation we were able to have with Eli on the way to Coba. You are not going to get that with a large group tour. Cost for the half day tour included pick up from our hotel, admission to Coba, authentic Mayan snack afterwards. Leading up to us booking our trip with Eli, his team did an excellent job answering all of my questions that were spread over 12 emails. We would definitely book Eli again to go to any of the other ruins in the region. This tour was towards the end of February when the temperature was not too high but Coba is in the jungle so there was shade everywhere. You cannot climb up the pyramid. Despite what anyone else may say, the rope is gone and you are not allowed to climb on the pyramid.
A visit to Coba ruins without our tour guide, Nelson, would have been so much less interesting & informative . The man is a walking, talking brain trust in regards to history, math (you need this to understand the mechanic's of the ruins) and science. Without a guide like Nelson, one would miss so much about the ruins. Try to get him!
Our guide Nelson and his driver (Eric) were wonderful! Arrived promptly and provided excellent information throughout our visit to the Coba Ruins historical site, as well as during the car ride there and back. We greatly appreciated the stop for locally made street tacos too! This was my second visit to the Coba site and though Nelson provided the same factual information, his particular spin on history, science, Mayan mysticism and legend was interesting and appreciated. I would encourage anyone to request and book a tour with this group and specifically Nelson!
Eli was an absolutely fantastic private tour guide! He was hilarious and very personable. Went above and beyond. Wish he could have been part of our group our entire trip!
Nelson, our guide, was great. Very knowledgeable about the story and the ruins. They make sure that the whole tour go as smooth as possible. The tour started on time and included the park entrances, the bike ride, water and snacks. Nelson went over and offered us some cochinita pibil tacos right before going to the park which were really good. Highly recommended.
Private tour with Yucatán Eli. He was amazing. Extremely knowledgeable about the Ruins. Very friendly. His English was great! This made it so much easier for us. Highly recommend the private tour.
We had Nelson was our guide on this tour. He was amazing and very knowledgeable about the site and the maya civilization. We had great discussions about mesoamerican civilizations. They site is easily accessible via bikes or walking.
Everything went smooth from the very beginning. We received a text two days before our tour to confirm the pick-up time and location. Eli picked us up a few minutes early from our hotel lobby, picked up snacks and water for us, and took us through the ruins for 3 hours. He was very knowledgeable, and he never tried to rush us. On our way back to our hotel and upon our request, Eli stopped so we could purchase gifts for our family members back home. If you are going see the Coba ruins and want a small group or private tour, this is the one to book.
The excursion was amazing! Communication prior to the tour was excellent, pick up was on time, and Eli's passion for Mayan history and archeology was infectious. He was very knowledgeable providing details that made us feel like we were in on the secret. The tour ended with a visit to Lucia, a Mayan woman, who greeted us with delicious homemade corn tortillas. All in all it was a very memorable and enjoyable experience. We will definitely book tours with Eli again for all our excursions. Highly recommend!
El8 was a great guide. He was very well educated regarding the ruins and Maya history. He was friendly and very interesting. He has a passion for the culture and history behind the city of Coba.
Fun tour!! Eli was a fantastic tour guide! He was wet knowledgeable and the tour tias were fantastic!
What an adventure! The Cobá Ruins was the best tour of our trip - a beautiful place brought to life by our amazing tour guide Eli! From start to finish we were in safe hands with Eli who was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and prepared for all situations - a natural born tour guide and storyteller! We walked and rode bikes, taking photos along the way and tried to spot the monkeys in the trees. Highly recommend this tour :)
This was an amazing tour with Eli!! - he has a fabulous sense of humor and took time to explain the wonders of the ruins. We learned many incredibly interesting things laughed a lot road bicycles and the took fabulous picks of us along the way. Best of all was our treat at the end - a traditional lunch with his friend who prepared special tacos for us - such a sweet grandmother lady and yummy food. We highly recommend this private tour with Eli!!!
