Jesus, our tour guide, and his team was amazing. I highly recommend this small group tour. Our trip had 8 people, split into two groups 4 for Spanish, and 4 for English. Jesus, our English guide, was fantastic! He described the history of both Chichen Itza and Coba in great detail, making sure to find shade to discuss things in to keep us as cool as possible. He was able to answer all our questions and pointed out things we would have missed otherwise! Thanks for a great day! This team also made sure we beat the big tour buses so we got really good photos and didn't have to fight crowds.

The trip with Pache, Antonio, and Jesus was amazing! They were so knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure we had a good time. They took us to all the top spots and gave us a full day of adventure. Would 100% recommend them over a large tour group any day!! Only 8 people in our group which made it that more intimate. Loved our time with them!
This was the best excursion experience I have had. Our guide Tonantzin was spectacular by being professional, friendly, and super knowledgeable about the pyramids and ruins we visited. Transportation was on time, we had snacks and water available, and the excursion were so dynamic. Tonantzin had an answer for every question and truly dove into the details of the history in the area. The entire day was filled with learning, fun, and rewarding exhaustion. We were tired by the last stop but we saw something we had never seen before which made it very exciting and we were able to navigate Coba with taxi carts. The Cenote stop was beautiful and the buffet lunch was delicious. This trip was so rewarding for me and my family-we are so happy it went smoothly, and we got so much out of it as a shared experience.
The Mayan Riviera Tours excursion to Chichen Itza, Il Kil Cenote, and Coba provides an excellent introduction to the historical and natural wonders of the Yucatan Peninsula. Travelling with a mixed group of English and Spanish speakers was no challenge as the tour company laid on two guides, Jesus and Juan who were great throughout. While it was a long day )12 hours with a 5:55am pick-up) it was definitely worth it. The cold drinks and snacks on the mini-bus and the buffet lunch ensured hydration and energy levels were maintained throughout. I have no hesitation in recommending this tour.
Tonancy was a great host. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about every aspect of the tour. She kept it fun and light to keep you interested. Juan, our driver navigated the terrain with skill.
Ariann was a great guide and had a fun and energetic personality. She was very knowledgeable about the sites visited and I would recommend this experience
Really a wonderful experience! Gabriel, Marcella and Tona were all so fantastic and kind. The tour leaves earlier than others but that was the best part because you get to all the attractions before they get insanely crowded. Every time we would be leaving somewhere a massive crowd of hundreds of people would be coming in! It made it super easy for us to get all of our photos in. Would highly recommend booking a tour with this company!
The tour guide and other staff were extremely nice people that made sure my girlfriend and I well taken care of throughout the day, along with other members of the group. Small group, air conditioned van, snacks, etc. They make an emphasis on getting to Chichen Itza before the crowd so you’re able to take nice photos. As we were leaving there were A TON of people starting to flow in. The cenote IK KIL was amazing and lunch is included. Coba was also very cool with lots of history behind it, and it’s in the jungle so lots of shade just use big spray to avoid mosquitoes. Highly recommend the bike cab so you’re able to cruise through the jungle and relax. Also make sure to tip the guys because they’re riding you through the jungle on a bike they’re pedaling. These people are really nice and humble people. About $15 USD (tip included) for a full ride and back through the jungle, totally worth it!
Amazing excursion, small world, our guide was Tonancy who my wife had as a guide 6years ago. She is a delight!! I highly recommend 👌
Our tour guide Tonantzin did a great job introducing the history behind the relics. Very informative, knowledgeable, and helpful! She also helped us take lots of good pictures. Everything was well organized!
Very Nice trip with very experienced guides that answered all our questions, having now at least little bit more knowing about Maya culture and history.
Everything was amazing and smooth and well-organized! Our guide Gabrielle was so nice and knew the best spots to take photos! Would recommend booking!
Tour was child friendly for a 5 yr old. The tour starts early with a c. 5am pick up depending on location, but its well worth it was you arrive at Chinchin Itza well before the crowds. Gabriel our tour guide really took care of us. The drivers were also very safe. The cenote swim and lunch were a great stop after all the walking at the ruins. Coba was the final stop and definitely worth a visit as much quieter, we hired a bike taxi which was needed for a family of 3. Highly recommend this tour.
Highly recommend this tour. We got in to Chichen Itza before the crowds got in while it was still cooler, and moved on before it got super busy. The cenote was nice and cool, no towel provided or needed (you dry off pretty quickly in the heat). Lunch there was alright. Coba was a very interesting place as well and reinforces the patterns and history that we learned about in Chichen Itza. We had just enough time to do a little souvenir shopping and take bathroom breaks before moving on to the next site. Our English speaking tour guide Tonantzin was great. She was very knowledgeable about all the sites, and was also an impressive photographer! Juan got us to and from all the destinations quickly and safely. There was also a second tour guide Antonio, who helped and took care of the Spanish speaking part of our group.
This tour was absolutely fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough! It does start very early in the morning but that was so worth it to beat both the crowds and the heat at Chichen Itza. Our tour guide, Tonantzin, offered a lot of great insight about the Maya and their history. And I loved both the cenote and Coba as well. A more detailed review about each aspect below: Logistics of pickup- One of the biggest selling points of this tour was that it was a small group and would pick us up at our hotel. The hotel pickup made the early morning much better. We stayed in Tulum and were the last pickup at 6:50am. I have no idea how early some of the other folks staying in other parts of the maya riviera were up but probably much earlier. I would recommend packing a light breakfast for the ride if you are someone who needs morning fuel. We brought bottled coffee drinks and protein bars with us to eat on the ride over. Chichen Itza did have some type of coffee shop (maybe even a starbucks?) at the entrance that we didn't need to use, but you could upon arrival. Chichen Itza. Truly a wonder of the wonder and must-see. It is such a vast site you honestly could spend much more time there and I have a feeling we will someday return to check out more of it. We got there just before park opening and missed a large portion of crowds and vendors, which was really nice. You spend about 1.5 hours on the initial tour and then are given 30-45 mins of free time. We opted to follow Tonantzin during the free time portion to a different section of the site to learn more about it rather than wander. It did mean we had limited time to shop for souvenirs and there were chunks of the park we only saw from a distance and didn't have time to go and look at, but we managed to snag a quick souvenir on the way to the exit. We payed for the souvenier in pesos but many of the vendors would have taken credit card or dollars. My only regret is not having more time at the site, but that would have meant sacrificing time at anther location, so to get in all 3 activities you have to stay on the move. Chichen Itza was just starting to get stiflingly warm as we left (around 10:15am) so I was so thankful to be there early and even at the early hour Tonantzin did a great job of keeping us in the shade. The tour does provide bottled water, we also packed our own. If you just use theirs I would grab 2-3 bottles to be on the safe side. We easily killed 2-3 bottles each just wandering around because it is hot and humid. Cenote Ik Kil- The cenote is gorgeous and again I only wish we had more time there. We started by swimming first and then did the lunch. We did not pack either snorkeling gear or a towel and I slightly wish we had both. This particular cenote was at least deeper than standing so I liked having the required life jacket and again the snorkeling gear might have been nice to get a sense of depth, but was also not necessary for it to be enjoyable just floating around and looking at the beautiful environment. The towel I feel you could forego because it is so hot and you do dry off relatively quickly anyway, but might have been nice as well. We did opt to buy chaco sandals before the trip and I am so glad we did. I would recommend purchasing some type of sturdy sandal for this tour. That way your feet have some airflow in the heat as you walk the sites and additionally you can just leave them on going into the cenote, which was really nice because the stone steps down to it seemed slightly slick with water. The lunch provided was average. It is a buffet and some dishes were better than others. The restaurant was air conditioned though and that I was a big fan of. Coba- I was really glad we saw Coba. It was very different from Chichen Itza and I almost felt like we were Indiana Jones going through the jungle finding these archeological sites. Everyone in our group paid for the bike shuttles (limozina maya as our driver called it) so bring some pesos for that as well as tipping the driver after. I was nervous that Coba would be really hot in the afternoon heat, but because it is more jungly it is more shaded and was manageable. And again would bring or grab extra water bottles because you work up a sweat. Would 10000% percent recommend this tour and would go back to all these sites again.
Seeing Chichen Itza and then Coba was a great contrast in understanding how preservation is important. Of course having a refreshing dip at Ik Kil between the two was perfect. Lunch buffet leaves something to be desired in quality but the cenote itself was worth it. Fun to get to jump from up high into the deep clear water. Very smooth operation. Our guide Tonantzin and our driver were both amazing and highly skilled. The private van was comfortable with AC and water. Tonantzin was so energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable about Mayan culture, and history, and she took great photos!
Such a great experience! So happy we had this opportunity! Enjoyed our guide, Nancy; so knowledgeable and good energy! Marcela did a wonderful job of driving! Thank you!:)
This was a fantastic trip!! I highly recommend. It is a long day 5:40a pickup dropped @ 7p, due to Cancun traffic but well worth it! Team Marcella & Jesus were wonderful. If you’re looking for a day immersed in history this is the trip. Jesus is extremely knowledgeable. The cenote was amazingly beautiful & fun! Lunch was good, facilities clean.
There is a little bit rush in each site, but overall experience is great. The ruins, with tour guides' explanation became meaningful.
We had a great time on this tour. We were a group of five and were paired with a group of 4 so nine of us total on this tour. Our guide Antonio was excellent. He took to the time to point out details that we might have missed. I had been to Chichen Itza before and he provided facts that I had not heard on my previous visit that enriched the overall experience. The Cenote and lunch spot were great. The cenote was beautiful and the included lunch was delicious. I highly recommend that you visit Coba. It is a much less known archeological site compared to Chichen Itza or even Ek Balam, but has extensive history in the classical period of Mayan culture. Being less well known, there are less tourists here and you get to explore the ruins in a much more peaceful atmosphere. There are bicycles for rent, or if you'd like you can hire a bicycle taxi to take you to each site for $150 pesos round trip. Overall, this tour was very well organized, the driver was prompt, safe and courteous. We can't thank Antonio enough for his insights as well his great restaurant recommendations for the rest of our time in Playa del Carmen.
Our tour guide, Maria, was absolutely amazing. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. This was a long trip but well worth it. Seeing Coba at the end was awesome as it is a lesser known sight.
Cenote swim was greatt!! Chichen itza was good and historic , Dont forget to Carry bug spray to Coba !! Drive back took too long!!
The tour was a great and fun experience overall. The driver and tour guide were very professional and informative. We didn't know what to expect from the tour, but the guide made sure we were well-informed, on schedule, and felt safe. We highly recommend this tour guide company.
The trip was exactly as advertised! After reading many reviews on other tours, I was worried there may be some surprise charges and there was not. Julian and Jesus were very accommodating. Jesus, our guide, is very knowledgeable and knows the sites and people working there. Our tour was ahead of the crowds at Chichen and Ik Kil. As we left both places there were droves of people in line to get in. There was not a big selection at the buffet, but the fresh cochinita (Mayan pork entre), corn tortillas and pico de gallo were delicious. Coba is a less known site, but worth the visit as it enhances your understanding of the great Mayan civilization and their history. I am very happy we booked this excursion!
It was a great day. I have to say that our tour guide Maria (Mimi) was one of the best guides I ever had. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. It made the whole day even better. It is the whole day tour but totally worth it. We saw the great Chichen Itza when there was not so many people as this tour starts early. Then we swam in the beautiful cenote. After tasty lunch we had to another great place of Coba.
Honestly I have to say that this was absolutely amazing experience. Our tour guides Maria (Mimi) was so passionate, knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. The whole tour was so well organised. There was nothing to improve. Everything was perfect.
The trip was great fun. Our driver and guide arrived on time and got us around with ease in an air conditioned van, which was needed in such hot weather! We arrived at Chichen Itza at 8.30am and could get photos with barely anyone around and beat the hottest parts of the day. The cenote was amazing and such a great way to cool down before heading to Coba.
Communication before the tour was good. I was contacted by WhatsApp to reschedule due to maintenance going on in Coba, they gave me the option to refund and cancel or reschedule, which I did. Then the day before, they gave me pickup time. Pickup was around 6 AM at my hotel and on time. The van was comfortable, and I was offered water, juice, cookies and banana, but if you are used to a bigger breakfast, it’s best to take some snacks. We also did a toilet stop on the way, bring some coins to pay for using the toilet. We were with an English speaking guide, Antonio, who was very good. We were 7 who spoke English. There was also a Spanish guide for 2 Spanish people and a driver. The tour was awesome since we beat the crowds at each stop. We left early but that allowed us to enter Chichen Itza just as it was opening around 8.30, fewer crowds, and when we left around 10.30 big crowds were coming in. The ruins were exceptional, and our guide took many pictures of each person in the group. We then had around 45 min on our own. We then drove to the cenote. Facilities were clean, we also beat the crowds there for the swim and the buffet. Buffet was good. The swim was refreshing. When we left, big crowds were lining up for the buffet. Then we drove to Coba, which had less tourists there, it was quieter. It’s best to bring cash to explore the site. Since it is vast, you have the option of renting a bike, or hiring a tricycle (150 pesos to bring you there and back to the start), or you can walk. However since we were tired and it was hot, no one chose to walk. So bring some cash for that. I returned to my hotel around 5.30 PM. The day went by fast, interesting guide, I recommend it.
This tour is well-organized. The time points are well as scheduled. The tour guide and the driver are very nice.
We had an amazing day with our driver Librado and guide Jesus. We got picked up at 6:30am punctually and back to hotel at 6:30pm. So it’s a whole day experience. Jesus is very knowledgeable and professional. I definitely learned a lot from him.
Our trip was very well organized. It's a long day, but the staff is very friendly and the van is comfortable. We chose this trip partly because of the 3h stop at Chichen Itza (2h escorted plus 1h free), which felt like an adequate amount of time. You get picked up very early, but it's worth it because you tour Chichen Itza right when it opens, so not too hot, not too crowded. The cenote visit is nice - it's a little small so feels a little crowded, but again, very well organized, clean, and the provided lunch was good. The final stop at Coba is interesting - much less developed than Chichen Itza but spectacular in it's own way. If you don't mind a long day of driving, highly recommend.
This tour was absolutely amazing. First let me just say for the LONG day of driving that was involved we were 100% thrilled with our transportation and the comfort along the way. We went with little children, a teenager and a few seniors in our group so that part mattered. We had plenty of time at Chichen Itza to explore on our own and take a tour and swim in the cenote By the way the cenote is freezing cold ( ; so you’re not really splashing around for too long, with that said when we went is was blazing hot so that swim was absolutely needed. The buffet was AMAZING & it was nice to just have a seat and relax before heading back out on the road to Coba. WOW Coba was another spectacular sight to see. Tip bring some cash to rent a bike taxi if you have kids. Most of the group mustard up the energy to walk the mile or so to see all the ruins but the kids were done. Plus the bike taxis were super fun for the kids. I can’t remember what we paid but it wasn’t a lot. Listen the day is long but I promise it goes by fast and you’re comfortable the entire way. Just take a nap on the long drive back, we did. ( ;
Outstanding ruins. Everything I thought it would be. Also, our shuttle left early and we were one of the first groups to arrive at Chichén Itzá. It made a big difference to beat the crowds and the heat. Not thrilled with our guide “Eder”. He was not very enthusiastic in his delivery during the tour and at times seemed almost annoyed at the questions we had for him. Would have appreciated more engagement. Also, we found it annoying that they hit us up for the entrance fee to the park (we assumed that everything was covered for what we paid for the excursion). And to add insult, they charged us $10 more than the admission fee to the park. The destinations were awesome (cenote and the meal there was awesome). At Cobá, our guide seemed a bit rushed to wrap things up and we missed one of the more interesting areas of the park as he hustled us back to the van. I will say that Viator was very easy to work with- they made it very easy for me when I called to reschedule the excursion due to a conflict.
We enjoyed the guide and the Cenote and Cova were both really nice. I didn’t like that we had to bring additional cash for the tickets to Chichen Itza and there were no towels at the Cenote. Also I had to sit in the back of the van and it was the most uncomfortable I have ever been in a vehicle, and there were nearly 7 hours of driving time. Next time I would book on a bigger bus.
You is well organized and all is provided as written in the description. We seemed to be ahead of the crowd at Chichen Itsa and at the center. Lunch was top quality.
The whole tour was amazing and exceeded expectations. Our guide Mimi was wonderful and knew so much history and had a great sense of humor. Coba was such a great surprise and we are so glad we were able to see it and Chichén Itzá.
I was really looking forward to this tour but my excitement was dashed when I found myself the only English-speaking person in the group of 9. The rest were from Spain and despite booking an English-speaking tour, the guide spoke Spanish about 80% of the time. I'm pretty sure the rest of the group learned a lot more about Mayan culture than I did. So much so I took to loitering around other groups whose guide was explaining things in English. I think this is less to do with the guide sbs more to do with the company putting me in a group where I was isolated. Certainly didn't feel a part of the group, and I definitely went away wishing I had learned a lot more. Disappointing.
Really enjoyed this tour of Chichen Itza, Coba, and the Cenote. The tour was as written in the tour description. I was picked up on time and the van was clean and comfortable. Guides and driver were knowledgeable and personable and did a good job of making this tour well worth my time. If you book this tour and are staying in Cancun, be aware that you will probably need to make pickups in Playa del Carmen which will add to the duration of this tour. For the folks that boarded and departed in Playa del Carmen I am sure the tour was close to the advertised 12-hours, for those staying in Cancun it was over 13 hours. In addition of the tour fee of $149 USD I paid an additional $15 USD for the Cancun pick-up and $40 USD for the Chichen Itza Entrance Fee. The day before my tour I was notified by the tour provider that “The archaeological zone of Chichen Itza will be closed for Maintenance” and if I wanted to take the tour I would need to reschedule to the following day, which I did. While in Chichen Itza I inquired about the closing to which I was told that they were not closed and my provider probably didn’t have enough people for that day. So be aware if you get such a notification.
Excellent trip, 5stars, it’s a long day but we’ll worth it, food excellent, tour guide and driver 5stars
It was hot in September, but manageable. The team supplied a lot of water and was conscious about the temperature, always taking us to the shade. The guides were amazing; friendly and super knowledgeable. Our group consisted of just 7 of us, 5 English speakers with one guide and 2 Spanish speakers with another guide. The small groups allowed a lot of questions and conversations back and forth. The cenote was a great surprise, I wasn't anticipating such a beautiful swim, along with the buffet lunch, and Coba was a great addition to learn more about another cultural heritage site. I highly recommend this guiding group
Gabriel was the best! He was so knowledgeable and made it so interesting for us. Loved the small group!
This was a fantastic day. The tour company picked us up early and got us on the road quickly out to Chichén Itzá first thing. We were one of the first groups in, which was great. It wasn’t crowded and we didn’t have to wait long to take pictures in front of the ruins. Our guide, Gabriel, was charming and organized. He brought us around to all of the sights and explained the significance and details. He gave us free time and was clear about where we needed to be and at what time. We spent three hours there and easily could have spent another. Next we traveled back down the road to Ik Kil cenote. This was beautiful and one of the highlights of our entire trip to Mexico. We spent about 45 minutes swimming and then had a nice lunch. After that we headed down the road again to Coba, our last stop. This wasn’t as developed as Chichén Itzá, which was kind of nice. It was less crowded and we got the opportunity to take a lovely walk through the jungle to the ruins. Gabriel gave us historical context the whole time. He also made sure we got plenty of bathroom breaks in our 300 mile round trip trek. This is a long day so make sure you wear good shoes and comfortable clothes. It was well worth the cost in time and money. Thanks to Gabriel for such a great day!
Gabriel was a fantastic tour guide.helpful, friendly, interesting knowledge about the places we visited. Well organised, timings of the stops were about right. Could have had slightly longer for lunch at the cenote
This was a really amazing trip. It was well organised with great communication from the tour operator regarding timing and the pickup. Pickup was perfectly on time. The trip is just as described. Small group - on our trip I think there were 8 of us. Snacks and water provided for the 2.5hr journey to Chichen Itza. The tour guides were friendly and polite. With Gabrielle providing the English part of the tour. And the other guide providing the tour in Spanish. Both guides were really knowledgable and helpful throughout the day. Chichen Itza is just amazing and we arrived shortly after opening. Allowing us to get early morning pictures and before it got too busy. The Centoe IK KIL, was a really lovely place. Well organised, with changing rooms and lockers. This is also where we had lunch, which was really good. Excellent food - buffet style. Finally there was the visit to Cobá. There are some magnificent ruins here, surrounded by the jungle. Unfortunately, because we were now in the mid-afternoon, the weather had changed, and so the rain moved in. But we still enjoyed it. Personally, I would have preferred to skip the Cenote and just concentrate on the archeological sites. During the part of the day with the better weather. But overall, this was an excellent trip. Definitely worth the early start. And the guys are very friendly and helpful.
We had a wonderful tour! Eder was our tour guide, and he was knowledgeable and passionate about everything we did during the tour. The whole experience was incredibly well run, and we had a great experience! Everything was included, and the only thing we paid for additionally were bikes in Coba, which was optional.
We had Francisco as our guide--absolutely amazing! Personable, knowledgeable, and a great sense of humor. My 6yo and 9yo were engaged the entire time and left with a lot of information retained. He knew exactly the right spots to get wonderful pictures, had some great connections to a couple of Mayan families, and certainly knew how to make this entire trip memorable for my family and I.
My husband and I traveled to Quintana Roo specifically for this experience. I am a teacher and teach about the Maya empire. Our tour was confirmed for 6:00 am., and we arrived at 5:45 am to be safe, but nobody showed. After many attempts to contact the tour operator, (the number listed in the booking was incorrect) he said they changed the pickup time to 5;30 am the day before travel, but he couldn’t reach me because Viator/Trip Advisor had relayed to him the wrong country code and now it was too late to get us. Trip Advisor/Viator has refused to refund the $318 we paid despite all of the printed and screen-captured evidence. After years of only booking through them for everything from Viking tours on Icelandic horses to Stockholm ferry-rides, this will be my last tour with this company. Can’t express enough my disappointment that this company worth 200 million can’t give a teacher the price of her no-show tour back. :(
We were picked up early for the tour (05.45) but the early start is so worth it because we arrived at Chichen Itza not long after it opened, got to take pictures while it was quiet and leave as the crowds are arriving. There are many, many souvenirs you can pick up here but make sure to haggle!! The cenote was beautiful and even if you don't want a swim you can enjoy the scenery and take pictures. And the last stop was Coba which was late in the afternoon which was perfect as again you miss the crowds. There is a fair amount of shade from the jungle as you make your way through to Honoch Mul (the main temple) and you can either walk (20ish minutes depending on how fast you walk), you can bike or you can take a 'taxi' which has a seat on the front and a bike at the back with someone pedaling you through the jungle. This is about 150 pesos each way. We had 2 tour guides, Yolo and Francisco who are both wonderful - knowledgeable, funny and informative. It was a long day but it didn't feel like it, you get to see/do things at the best times and in a small group which is great if you like asking questions. If you want to do Chichen Itza in the best way possible - this is it!
Really enjoyed this tour JC our guide gave plenty of information throughout. highlight was definitely chichen itza
Great experience! Francisco was very knowledgeable and funny. They picked us right up from our resort which was really nice. We packed so much into this day and a great time was had by our entire group!!
