★★★★★ Miguel was an amazing tour guide for my very first birdwatching adventure! His knowledge was incredible, but what really made the experience special was his personality and passion for what he does. We saw over 80 different species, including a toucan, which was an incredible highlight! Miguel did a fantastic job spotting birds and sharing interesting information throughout the tour. We also got to enjoy some delicious local cuisine, and the float through the mangroves is an absolute must-do. It was such a unique and memorable experience. If you’re looking for an amazing birdwatching experience with a knowledgeable and personable guide, I highly recommend Miguel. I can’t wait to do another tour!

I had a fantastic birding tour in the Tulum and Muyil area with Amar Aves and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in birds, nature, and the Yucatán Peninsula. On a half-day tour we saw 47 species across several different habitats, including a White-bellied Emerald right in my guide`s - Miguel garden, an aracari, a Turquoise-browed Motmot, trogons, orioles and several other species endemic to the Yucatán Peninsula. Miguel was very knowledgeable and clearly knows the local birds and the best places to find them. The tour was also very well organized and on time, but what I appreciated most was Miguel’s flexibility. He adjusted the schedule to my interests and pace, making the experience feel completely tailored to me rather than like a fixed itinerary. The visit to Muyil and its archaeological area was an additional highlight. Combining excellent birding with the opportunity to explore such an interesting archaeological site made the day especially memorable. Miguel and our driver went above and beyond even outside the birding. I mentioned that I wanted to buy some exotic local fruit to take home for my kids, and they actually took me to two different local markets to help me find what I was looking for. That was such a thoughtful and personal touch. Overall, this was an excellent experience from start to finish: great birding, beautiful and varied habitats, interesting cultural sites, and a guide who was knowledgeable, punctual, flexible, and genuinely attentive to what I wanted from the day. I would happily book another tour with Amar Aves and highly recommend it to other birders visiting the Tulum/Muyil area.
My husband and I were interested in a half-day tour that covered a couple of different habitats, and we were super impressed with how well it went. We managed to see 60 species (in July) in one morning, including several endemics like the Yucatán woodpecker, black catbird, and orange oriole, and some harder to see birds like Lessen’s motmot, Mayan antthrush!!!, and the pale-billed woodpecker. Miguel was always scanning, and would even stop mid-conversation to point something out. We also saw the Muyil ruins and a little bit of Sian Ka’an, which was such a great way to end the tour. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic bird-watching tour at Muyil and the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve! Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable, and helped us spot 45 bird species during the tour. The experience was well organized, and lunch was a great selection of delicious tacos at a local restaurant. Highly recommended for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts.
I wasn’t expecting much more than a touristy bird walk but boy was I wrong. We’ve birded in Equador and Panama and this was on par with our best guided birding days anywhere. Miguel is an outstanding, friendly and entertaining guide. He knew great spots to bird and the bird species by song/call. We saw and heard over 70 species including some of the highly desired toucans, mot-mots, all five local wood creepers and an amazing group of male black-headed trogons all calling and interacting, just to name a few of the many highlights. As we were about to complete the walk and leave the Muyil archaeological park, Miguel asked what my most desired bird was. I said the royal flycatcher we heard but didn’t see. So we basically back tracked the entire route through the two territories he knew about until we found and had great looks at a pair of royal flycatchers. We had such a great experience we’re looking forward to birding with Miguel for a couple days next time we’re in the area.
The tour was excellent from the pick up by the driver, the knowledgeable & helpful bird guide Miguel Amar and the interesting locations. The Mayan ruins at Muyil with the jungle backdrop was a great location for history lovers and nature. I just await my bird list to confirm number of birds seen!
Tulum Tours was by far one of the the best birdwatching trips I have had in the Yucatan. Moisés love and knowledge of the birds was evident and he was eager to share it. I got the flu and my first trip had to be cancled, fortunately I was able to reshcedule and Miguel and Océana were so helpful in the arrangements and staying in contact with me. Most memorable part of it all was seeing my target bird the Keel-billed Toucan!
I'd stronglu recommend the bird-watching tour with Miguel! He was very knowledgable and we were able to spot most of the birds through their calls!, including the Pygmy Owl, flycatchers, Turkey Vultures etc. He also has spare binoculars for those who need it which I strongly recommed. My friend and I were also able to go to his house, understand how it self-sustains and meet his dog! We wrapped up the trip with a swim in Sian Ka'an. Miguel is quite knowledgable about the area and the birds in it. We were also able to spot a Coatimundi as we left! We wrapped up the day with tacos and wonderful conversation! All in all cannot recommend this strongly enough!
Wow wow wow! What a day. We saw 41 new species of birds today. The day started with a nice coffee, then into a remote beautiful location where we saw lots of birds. Claudio was our guide and I can’t say enough good things about him, but I will try. He was kind and patient with us. He was a great drive and he was nice to talk with. He was a perfect bird guide. He is able to make similar sounds as the local birds and he has an eyes like and Eagles and can hear as well as an Owl. The lunch he took us to was authentic and delicious. The last stop was so neat. The great thing about the last spot other than the birds was that everyone knew him. Everyone would say Claudio and greet him so kindly. It was a great day. I don’t know how much he makes but he deserves a raise. Claudio you were a perfect guide today. Thank you
I did a morning tour with my son around the town of Muyil and the nearby parts of Asian Kanan. Miguel was very responsive in helping to arrange the tour, and Luciano was an amazing tour guide. The tour was absolutely amazing - we managed to see toucans, pygmy owls, motmots, trogons and dozens more. 56 lifers for me! Luciano was a very knowledgeable and attentive guide, asking us what our bucket list species were, and providing a lot of knowledge and support as we were birding (as well as providing extra binoculars and coffee!). We ended the tour with a delicious breakfast. The biosphere reserve was a joy to walk through, for both the birding and for the nature and archaeology. The main Muyil site is currently closed for renovations, but you can see the Mayan causeways around the lagoon.
Our Birdwatching day with Claudio and his driver Luis was beyond our expectations! We stopped for snacks and then got right into it. In a blink of an eye we saw over 38 species just in one neighborhood. Claudio has an eagle eye(no pun intended) it’s incredible what he spots , finds and point with his pointer. He knows them all and is just as excited very happy to take pics thru his binoculars. He asked what your bucket list bird is and mine was a toucan we saw 3 and two species! I was in bird heaven. Even my husband who was more interested in the Mayan ruins part of our trip was equally amazed and loved it more than he thought. Our lunch stop was delicious and then Claudio shared the entire list with pics and locations that we had accumulated to my Bird Merlin App. What a special touch. We went to the edge of Sian Ka’an by the lake and saw more species. Motmots, owls, parrots and more. Even army ants were so cool. Muchas Gracias for the best memories! We will be back!
I love going Birding with Miguel and Luciano from Amar Aves Birding Tours here in Muyil. The trails that they took me on through the jungles were absolutely picturesque and so soothing to walk among such trees. They found me near 60 new life birds during our four days of Birding together. Such an incredible journey and experience with these wonderful guides. We had an absolutely incredible time in each other’s company talking about the birds we know, are Birding experiences, and laughing hysterically as we drove from place to place. I cannot wait to return next year to bird with Miguel and Luciano again.
This was a great trip. Miguel was very knowledgeable about the birds that we saw and seemed to know everyone. Also, Miguel noticed a lot of birds that I would have missed. A good eye for sure. Miguel also knew what birds to expect at our location and made it a point to find the Pygmy Owl that he knew would be there. I managed to get some great pictures of Toucans and many other colorful birds. We saw 37 species and list of the birds we saw was in my email the next day. Miguel was knowledgeable, friendly, and he delivered the goods. What more could you ask for?
We had a great time and saw lots of new birds! Miguel was a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable. We hope to go birding with him again in the future. ¡Muchas gracias!
This is our second birdwatching tour with Miguel (because we enjoyed the first one so much!). He truly goes above and beyond to offer a friendly, welcoming and memorable experience, and I really enjoy learning from him about the types of habitat that sustain birds (here's to "structural complexity"!) and about the changes the area is going through. He helped us realize how the data we collect will help protect the birds, and we learned which species are endemic to the area, and how to identify them. But more than anything, it was magical to listen to the birds welcome the dawn and to wander the little side streets, with an occasional dog or locals greeting us as they went by on a bicycle, with birds all about us singing. I can't wait to come back and thank you Miguel for the extraordinary experience!
Miguel showed us amazing birds. As novices he made it easy to participate by pointing things out with a laser pen. We also did the boat ride and float down the lazy river which we really enjoyed as well!
Miguel Amar greeted my wife and me before sunrise with a thermos of coffee and delicious homemade energy bars. We wanted to bird the Muyil Archaeological Preserve, but it was closed for construction so we were in a Muyil neighborhood just a few blocks west of the preserve. As it got lighter, Miguel started identifying the birds we were hearing before we saw them. Miguel lives in this neighborhood and is very familiar with the trees, shrubs, and environment where the birds were to be found. We ended up walking around the neighborhood - got 35 species including both migrants and endemics - keel-billed toucans, white-fronted amazons, a ferruginous pygmy owl, and a turquoise-browed motmot were some of the highlights. This was a wonderful morning; Miguel has an excellent knowledge of the birds and songs and the relation of the Mayan names to the songs. We ended the morning with a delicious brunch at his favorite local cafe.
When I was told we would see over 40 different species of birds in just a few hours, I didn't believe it—we saw 55! It's an incredible experience, and Miguel is a knowledgeable, professional, thoughtful guide. I would not have identified 10 birds walking that same area. It's eye-opening to be with someone who knows the calls and behavioral patterns of the local birds so well. This was a truly memorable experience.
We spent a whole morning with Miguel. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all the species that we saw and heard. We managed to identify 33 different birds which way exceeded our expectations. We can’t recommend this tour enough. If you love birds then you won’t want to miss this. Well worth the 06.15 start and the money.
This was such an incredible experience. If you have any interest in birds I’d say this is a can’t miss—the value for time and money is incredible. We are beginner birders and our guide, Claudio, was so kind and thorough as he introduced us to over 40 species of birds! If we hadn’t been with Claudio, I think I might have spotted maybe 10 on my own. He was so knowledgeable and made the experience much more vivid by sharing information with us about the birds. Some of my favorites included toucans, aracari, gartered trogon, an amazon, and a black and white warbler.
My boyfriend and I were eager to see the beautiful birds around Tulum and Miguel surprised us with almost 50 species we heard and saw. The best were the two species of toucans which we saw about 20 birds of, some from a distance of about 4m. Miguel has the best intuition and hearing ability to spot the birds around and his telescope will let you see the birds up close. We had the most amazing morning and will come back for another tour for sure!
Great birding, guide is very knowledgable in terms of local bird calls saw great birds and many in a short period of time.
Miguel was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide and a great conversationalist as well. Able to ID birds by sound and then locate them visually. He loaned me better binoculars and had a scope as well. Very excited to see 60 species in just 3 hours! I’ve birded in South America and did not expect to add so many birds to my “life list”. I highly recommend Miguel and this tour!
Our group of 5 enjoyed the morning with Miguel, who was both personable and knowledgeable. The trip was well organized with a van following us and available with food and water. We saw a good variety of birds.
I did two tours with Amar Aves and they were both great. I booked a private guide for both. My boyfriend and I did the Coba tour with Jose. He was a great guide and found us lots of amazing species, including the Ruddy Crake, Purple Gallinule, Gartered and Black Headed Trogon, Morelet's Seedeater, and many more. We got to a count of 53 for the day, which was great! Birding the pond was really cool, and we saw lots of water birds up close, including Limpkins too. At Coba we saw all the ruins, we got to take bikes to bike around to see everything, which was a happy surprise. I thought we might just see a couple of the ruins that were near where we were birding, but there was time allocated to bike around to everything, which was great as my boyfriend is more into ruins than birding. We also tacked on the cenotes stop, which was really cool to swim under stalagmites and refreshing after a hot morning of birding. For the second tour, I went solo with Miguel on the Muyil tour. Miguel is an incredible birder, super knowledgable and has a keen ear. Birding in Muyil area was really good, we saw lots of species up close, including: Squirrel Cuckoos, Keel-billed Toucans, Blue Bunting, American Pygmy Kingfisher, 4 species of orioles, and many more. We got to a count of 57 for the day. The Muyil ruins were closed, which the tour company had told me in advance, but I was good with that, as I was keen to focus just on birding for the morning. Birding with Miguel was really fun. And he even shared some photos from birding afterwards. I'm really into birding and always keen to learn more. Both Jose and Miguel take the time to point out the field markings with you to help identify different birds, and will point out different calls to help you get used to them. There was very limited use of callbacks, which is great. Both Jose and Miguel kept track of the birds on ebird and shared the lists afterwards, so I could focus on birding. I would highly recommend booking with Amar Aves.
We got Claudio as our guide. He was extremely experience and was able to point out all the birds accurately. We managed to see fifty plus birds in total, Fox, moles and many others wildlife around Sian Ka’an area. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed it and will highly recommend bird watchers to join this tour
Squirrel Cuckoo, the two Mot-mots, Ocellated Turkey and the collared Aracari were our mega-twitches of the day!! José Paz is one of the best birding guides with whom we've had the pleasure finding new birds !!
We LOVED this trip, Claudio was an amazing guide both knowledgable and mindful of what we wanted to try and see. This trip is definitely worth going on and has a great mix of nature and archaeology. Highly recommend.
Our two-couple party had a fantastic time birding with Miguel. We started on the quiet streets of Muyil, where morning birds included Collared Aracari, Keel-billed Toucan, Black-headed Trogon, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Ferruginous Pygmy Owl, and a variety of orioles (among many others). After a local lunch, we headed onto the trails of the nearby Muyil Maya site, which was full of beautiful northbound warblers more familiar to us from the summer woods of the US. So cool to see them on their journey. We also opted into the boat and float, which was amazing (we found the Gray-crowned Yellowthroat on the hike back). We had so much fun that two of us signed up for a trip in the Toh area near Puerto Morelos two days later!
I went with Miguel to Coba and Muyil this week. Despite me doing my homework and having knowledge of some species, Miguel’s expertise and knowledge of bird calls was superb and helped me find numerous sought after species. He was also considerate towards my family’s needs and explained cultural and historical aspects of the tour. He went above board to ensure my 5 year old was entertained and saw as much as possible. Highly recommended.
My husband and I just completed a six-day birdwatching tour with Miguel Amar Uribe from Amar Aves in the Yucatan. Together, with the help of the fantastic local guides at each site we visited, we saw over 200 species during the trip! Given that we had birded the Yucatan in the past, Miguel was instrumental in helping us find and see some target species that we had not yet seen. Miguel is fluent in the calls of the birds in the region and was able to guide us to the best locations to see all the Yucatan's specialties. An especially wonderful part of the trip was meeting the local birding guides and their families that live in the communities where we birded. We would highly recommend this multi-day birdwatching tour for anyone that is interested in the seeing the beautiful avifauna of the Yucatan region.
We saw so many birds! And Miguel logged them all into eBird so that we had a nice list at the end of the day. This tour was the best!
This tour was the highlight of a really great trip to Tulum. Miguel was an excellent bird spotter and helped us to see over 70 species in a few short hours. Plus he logged them all in eBird so that we had a record of our sightings and could focus on watching the birds. Miguel was also a lovely host and great conversationalist. I hope to get back to Tulum some day to do this again!
We brought our two children (ages 7 and 10) on this tour. And added the optional float down the river. Our kids are primed for being taken on these types of nature trips, having been camping, hiking, and nature viewing previously; but our tour guide (Miguel), also adapted our trip to accommodate our pace (a more leisurely speed than intense birders would want - though I think he can accommodate both types of groups), and had packed extra juice and snacks - which came in handy for the kids. Miguel was able to make the tour enjoyable for all of us. Most of the tour had shady spots you could stand in between the village and forested path at the start of the trip - which was valued by our family as we had quite a few sim days previously. Miguel is a skilled tour guide, with plenty of knowledge of the birds we heard and saw (plus knowledgeable about Mayan history - which was a bonus when we passed through the archaeological zone). We were able to borrow binoculars, and he also brought a scope and camera, which was great for helping us view species even better with the entire family. We saw over 40 different species (highlights including toucans, motmots, and a colllared forest falcon). He called out a Pygmy owl - which was also memorable. We wouldn’t have observed a fraction of the species on our own. I was surprised how many of the species we found just in the small village at the start of our trip. Miguel is perfectly bilingual in both Spanish and English and made the entire experience smooth - from arranging the boats and entry fees, to ordering lunch (we are all vegetarian - and he was able to accommodate easily) from a local restaurant. The float down the lazy river was a nice way end our tour, and to cool off. Most of the birds we saw was within the town, archeological zone, and the path next to the archeological zone. I’d suggest the float is optional. We did however see a few new birds on the boat ride (and Miguel was able to point out a boat billed heron lurking in the mangrove swamp to my daughter). The float was also a good incentive for our kids after a morning of birding.
This was an extraordinary birdwatching tour in every respect. Our guide, Miguel Amar, is exceptionally knowledgeable and skillful as a bird guide, and was also a very enjoyable companion over the course of a very full, well-planned excursion. We saw a total of 75 species of birds (not counting 10 that were only heard), including numerous species endemic to the region. Birding highlights included a keel-billed toucan, collared aracari, turquoise-browed motmot and black-headed trogon, along with different species of woodcreeper, tanager, and oriole, both white-fronted and yellow-lored parrots. We also very much enjoyed visiting the Muyil ruins, and the very memorable river float in Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. This was my best day of birdwatching with a professional guide in over 15 years of birding. The other person in our group was not so dedicated a birder as I am, but nonetheless had a very enjoyable excursion as well, thanks to Miguel's thoughtful attention to our individual interests and needs.
I’m a conservationist myself, and I couldn’t recommend this tour with Miguel more. We started in the town of Muyil, seeing dozens of different species - notably following Miguel as he heard, tracked and then spotted the little pygmy owl. Really impressive tracking by Miguel, and a very cool bird! It was also great to see both beautiful speices of toucan. Breakfast at a local place was also delicious. We then went to the Muyil archeological site/Sian Kaan, heard more about Mayan history and watched a mixed species flock of small birds. Really cool. Overall we saw over 60 species of bird. Finally we did the float. Miguel gave a short interesting explanation of the mangroves and reeds, before a float through the freshwater current - which was very refreshing after a packed morning. We really had such a brilliant experience. Miguel was fantastic. Thank you again. (I think we did a different advertised tour with Miguel / Amar Aves, but tripadvisor is only letting me submit my review on this similar one).
Miguel was an excellent guide. We were in a small group (6 total); the main focus was bird watching, though we learned a lot about the archaeological site too. Miguel was concerned about our comfort, with an early morning toilet and coffee break, and offers of water throughout. The brunch was delicious and authentic. We finished with a float in the Mayan canals. Our driver Said was also good, providing additional details, and always turning up when needed.
Miguel is a dedicated, generous, thoughtful and super knowledgable guide who introduced us to so many of the amazing birds to be found in this special area. I could have kept walking with him all day--he showed us different sorts of habitat and what birds liked which and why. We saw so many marvels it's hard to know where to start, but some highlights (for me) were a Lesson's Motmot spreading out its feathers to dry after the rainy day before, a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl high up in a tree, a Lineated Woodpecker in its nest, and an American Pygmy Kingfisher, and oh, the many colorful species of hummingbirds, tanagers , wood creepers, flycatchers, gnatcatchers, warblers, parrots, kingbirds, vireos, swallows, vultures, and so much more! (And a Black-Headed Trogon at the Muyil archaeological site bid us adieu, until next time!) The lunch was delicious, with a selection of regional tacos, and the float down the river a wonderful way to unwind. Truly a highlight and one of a kind experience. Thank you Miguel!! We hope to meet again!
While vacationing with family in nearby Akumal I was able to take a half day away to myself and join this birding trip in the area of Tulum and the Muyil Archeological Site. What a great experience! I was picked up at my hotel by a friendly driver and once we had collected the other five participants we met Miguel for fresh coffee and delicious snack bars at dawn. We birded the local area and completed our walking tour at the Muyil Archeological Zone. Miguel helped in finding and identifying many species of birds, including those that we would have never been able to identify by ourselves. He also gave insight and answered questions regarding the human history of the area and wildlife habitat conservation. We ended the day with a delicious Mexican meal at a local eatery before being driven back to our hotels. I recommend this tour or other similar tours with this company!
This tour was a highlight of my whole trip in the Yucatan! Miguel is an amazing guide and we really enjoyed his presence and energy. He is so sweet and kind and really made sure we were enjoying our time and even went out of his way to get us additional snacks when we were going between locations because we forgot ours! Miguel's itinerary for this tour was perfectly curated, we arrived at each location at seemingly the perfect moment to catch the birds we were hoping to see. You can really tell he is so familiar with this area and really knows where to be at what time and it just made such a difference! We went with another bird guide later our trip and we were wishing we did both trips with Miguel instead. Another note is that the included meal (which is at 11ish rather than 9am) was delicious, he even got us another plate of tacos at no extra charge because I have an insatiable appetite. As for the Muyil area and the birds, we were over-joyed! We did not take the optional boat part of this tour and we still saw 63 species! Among the highlights were Aracaris, Keel-billed toucans, two species of mot mot, pygmy owl, trogons, and even a Tropical Royal Flycatcher which was high on my list of targets. You wont go wrong by booking this, Thanks again Miguel!
Our tour with Miguel was amazing. We booked a private tour for five. Our transportation was arranged to and from the resort, and our driver Aurelio was lovely. Miguel made us all feel at ease and so comfortable from the start (and made sure we had a few bathroom breaks). Everything was so well planned. The knowledge Miguel shared on Mayan history and culture as well as local knowledge, in addition to birding and nature was so helpful. We logged 61 species, 53 of those being lifers for me. A highlight was an army ant raid that was happening just off the boardwalk. It caused a swarm of a few species of woodcreeper, and red throated ant tanager. Trogans, motmots and toucans were also big highlights of our day. Miguel brought us home made energy bars, coffee, and water for breakfast. And we ended with a fantastic lunch at Restaurante Chunyaxche where we were able to meet Miguel's lovely wife Julie and adorable, smiley little boy. Best of luck to your sweet family. We were happy to have met them. Cheers! Amy, Jeremy, Becki, Shawn, and Lucas.
We took two great tours (Muyil one day and Coba the next) both led by Claudio, a very talented birder with excellent vision, hearing, and identification skills. He is patient and personable, and very knowledgeable about both the natural environment of the Yucatan as well as the human history of the Maya world. We saw so many magnificent birds in these fascinating cultural locations that these two tours became the highlight of our vacation in Mexico!
I wanted to take a couple of days in Tulum before a work conference, and decided to book a tour with Amar Aves. Miguel was super responsive when I first contacted him, and answered all the scheduling questions I had. I then went with another guide—Claudio—to Muyil and it was an amazing experience, we saw about 60 different species in that morning. Claudio is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and a joy to be around. Later in the day we joined Miguel, who was guiding another group. We took a boat trip across two lagoons (where we saw a juvenile Morelet's crocodile) and floated our way down a canal across some mangroves. On our way back, I mentioned to Miguel that I would love to go birdwatching in Coba. He went above and beyond by asking if I could join his private tour the next day, even though it was already booked. His willingness to accommodate me truly made a difference! Te tour in Coba was another highlight, with sightings of nearly 40 species! Claudio's expertise and passion for birds shone through, making the experience really exciting. Overall, my experience with Amar Aves was fantastic. I I highly recommend them for an amazing birdwatching experience!
Perfect experience with Miguel Amar, competent and patient ! Thank you very much. We have seen more than 40 different birds.
Miguel is a first-rate birding guide. Knowledgable, friendly, and attentive. He lives in the Muyil area and clearly knows his way around. I would not hesitate to go on another tour with Miguel.
Fantastic birding tour. Our guide Miguel was the perfect balance of friendly and professional. Amazing bird knowledge. Great bird hotspots and really nice historical context of the area we were appreciating. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. We were also very appreciative of our driver Oscar who safely and proficiently transported us to and from where we were staying. Avoiding heavy traffic and ensuring we could leave our personally belongings in a safe environment. Can't recommend this tour enough!
This was an incredible experience. We are beginning amateur birders and had no idea what to expect. But we saw so many beautiful birds and Miguel is a fantastic guide. He could identify birds by their calls, flying overhead, at different life stages and was overall a brilliant guide. We had a fantastic time and recommend this to anyone of any experience level!!
Miguel took us on a magical bird watching experience in two locations. 6am start means you get to see a rich array of early morning birds. Miguel can hear & readily identify birds before we see them. The gregarious group of toucans & stunning Lineated Woodpeckers begin the engaging bird show. The lake & boardwalk in Sian Ka'an Biosfera, through the forest & natural water pools fed by underground fresh water add to the morning. Mayan temple & small archeological site. Miguel has a deep understanding of Mayan culture adding another dimension to this half day tour. This is a tour not to be missed, with delicious tacos lunch from a local restaurant & great discussions.
This was the highlight of our trip! Miguel was so knowledgeable and kind. He helped our group find the birds we were most interested in seeing and every part of the tour felt both fun and professional. We went bird watching in both Coba and Muyil, both locations had an amazing array of species. In total we saw ~100 species in two days! The places we stopped to eat were some of the best on our trip and very authentic. Miguel was very considerate toward the needs of our group and I could tell he tailored specific parts to fit our comfortability. We found Amar Aves via Instagram and were so glad we went with this tour. It honestly felt like a life changing experience. His passion for birds was palpable and we all got a long really well. Our group opted for private tours on both days we went birding with him. 11/10 experience.
If you enjoy birding, you will certainly enjoy this trip. Miguel is an excellent guide! He was able to help everyone on the trip see the birds, no matter their experience level. Hiking through the jungle around the ruins of Muyil certainly added to the experience.
