In September 2026, we had a three night stay at Thackray House. If I could rate the service at a 10, I would do so. At check-in, I inquired whether the booked room had a walk-in shower (instead of a shower over a tub), as my travel companion has mobility issues. When I was told it did not, we were upgraded to a suite. Unfortunately, the only available suite was up a winding staircase (posing a mobility challenge), but we gratefully accepted the upgrade. Upon noting the difficulty, the manager offered to move us to the ground level suite the next day when it became available. I have never before enjoyed such a thorough accommodation of our needs, which made our stay all the more enjoyable. If you have ever wondered what a stay at a Scottish country estate is like, I recommend a visit to the Thackray House. The grounds are well cared for, the common areas are very well appointed and comfortable, the rooms are nicely furnished and the staff is friendly and helpful. Dinner at the on-site bistro was enjoyable and the breakfast was wonderful.

Very pleasant stay, with a wonderful cooked to order breakfast and buffet. Location was excellent as it was very close to town and great walking trails. The hotel has a lot of charm and character. It’s cozy, comfortable. The staff are very welcoming. I would definitely stay again.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We would have loved to stay another night. The gardens are beautiful. You can explore them for hours. The library and lounges are opulent and inviting and the roaring fires added to the atmosphere. We definitely recommend a stay in this hotel
My wife, son and I stayed at Thackray house for two nights in August 2026. We were not overly impressed by the associated bistro restaurant on the same plot of land that served dinner, however, the breakfasts were fantastic. The warmest memory of the tip was the manager developed a good rapport with us: Sarah. She was friendly, kind and thoughtful. Just the sort of person you expect to find running a 5-star property! The suite we booked worked well and was well furnished. My only criticism was that a very small tap was installed in the bathroom, so that water came out and ran down the side of the basin - you couldn't get your hands underneath. A longer head tap should have been specified in the Starr room. It's a minor thing, but every time we went to wash hands or brush teeth, you'd be pressing up against the basin to try get some water. Bed and linen were top of the line. We run an exclusive use historic property in Perthshire, so we understand the hospitality game.
We stopped in for something to eat. As we had a dog with us we were given access to the conservatory with its wonderful view over the River Teith. The service and attention from all the staff was first class. The food was delicious.
