Fantastic and well organised experience! The coach journey is quite long but expected for the trip location. Managed to sleep the majority of the way. The RIB boat was very cool and didn’t feel cold thanks to all the equipment provided by the company
Avoid this company. Bad experience. Arrived on time and I could not find the pick up location. The tour left without me and made no attempt to contact me. I could only find an email to try to reach them. Very rude/disrespectful communications from staff afterwards when requesting a refund. No refund was given.
Booking confirmation from the company was difficult to get. The starting place for the bus ride changed twice the day before. Instead of writing Tomsø bus terminal pier 2, they wrote something about a place BEHIND a building, and the address- unclear!
This was one of my favorite tours. It was cold, very cold out on the water. Lots of layers needed. The tour guides were excellent and were so respectful of the whales. Lots of interesting information provided and we were looked after. Highly recommend.
Amazing experience! We saw 2 male Orcas and then got to witness the main pod of females and babies feeding on herring. It was so special. 4 hour bus ride to the island and about 4 hours spent there. Suits and boots were provided but I'd heavily reccomend wearing mamy layers of warm clothes. It's windy and you will get splashed. Bring backup cloths for the bus ride home.
Very well organised tour from Tromso. All necessary equipment supplied. Very safe and very informative. Saw humpbacks and orcas and the drive up was spectacular. A real lifelong memory, thank you
It will be cold so layer up! The experience was great and we got very close to orcas and humpbacks. We even got lucky enough to see the orcas and seagulls feeding on herring!
Very cool experience! The drive is about 3-4 hours in one direction and with only ~3 hours of daylight it's important to be on time. The location of the bus pick up is a bit incorrect. If you go to the described location (the hotel), facing the water you need to look right and you'll see a bus terminal with red buses parked, about a 3 minute walk. That is the proper pickup location. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. You need to dress very warmly, especially your fingers and toes as you're on a speeding RIB boat and the windchill was definitely in the negative double digits (which you are exposed to for 3+ hours). We got to see so many orcas and two humpbacks, getting VERY close to them! We even got to see the fjords. 10/10 would recommend
I booked this for my daughter who wanted to see orcas in their natural environment. They came across a large pod so she was absolutely thrilled. They also saw humpback whales which she loved.
The experience was amazing in the since that we were able to see so many orca. With that said, we were very rushed. I appreciate the desire to have as much time seeing the water, but in doing so, we had to stop because someone lost their glasses. Some people didn’t have the appropriate size in attire and could hardly see. I would recommend spending a little time ensuring everything fits right before getting on the rib.
What an amazing experience!!!! Andy was our tour guide and he gave us once in a life time experience!!! Very knowledgeable and fun sense of humor. We really had a great time! Will definitely be booking again if we ever come back to tromso! So proud to be booking with a few of Norwegian native tours!! Thank you Andy!!!
It was ok. Go into the bus, drive 4 hours.. always in a hurry to get on the water. But then you see the whales and it was amazing. Afterwards again hurry and drive home.
It was amazing seeing the orcas over time. Beautiful! A memorable experience. Long drive on the way up and back and a little rushed at the end.
I‘ve tried to place this rating before, but it mysteriously vanished. So again: I‘ve seen a whales2sea boat from another boat recently. They approached a group of Orcas in a non-mindful manner (state of the art ist approaching sideways and not from the front as the whales2sea skipper did). The animals were distressed. I beg you guys to be more respectful.
An absolutely incredible experience! We saw various pods of Orchas and we saw 2 humpback whales. Even the rib boat was an experience in itself, so much adrenaline on the way back! It was magical and I would 100% do it again.
We had the best time, and saw many families of Orcas and Humpbacks just hanging out at the surface! Definitely dress warm, it gets chilly, but totally worth it!!
Amazing trip, we got to see loads of orcas and humpback whales! Brigitta is very knowledgeable and gave us some interesting facts about the whales. Highly recommend!
Lovely boat tour that allowed us to see the diff whales like orcas, fin whale and humpback. The guide is very knowledgable and skilful at driving the boat (none of us got wet). We even managed to get close to a family of orcas
A dream come true! What a special day this was. The bus journey from Tromso is smooth and scenic. Once there you get all your equipment on which kept me lovely and warm for the whole trip. Once on the water we saw many pods of orcas and x3 sperm whales! Very well organised and I never felt rushed. Worth every penny. Thanks for such a memorable day.
Great experience. I came to Norway to see the whales and did several whale watching trips. This one was the best. We got lucky and saw many whales. The guide and information was also great. They also respected the whales.
Really great outing, good equipment and a great team to welcome you. I really enjoyed my time there and I'd recommend Green Gold of Norway because they're a team that respects animals and takes care of their space. I'd advise you to go at the beginning of the year as there are lots of different animals to see.
Seeing a pod of humpback whales - our guide was amazing Bridget !!! Wow. Fantastic. 100% great moment. Our guide was fantastic
An amazing day! Well organised, great staff and just stunning sights. I saw orcas and humpback whales. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough 😊
The tour was great, we saw a lot of orcas, and were very pleased. It is definitely worth it. But it is important to mention that this a very TOUGH tour from beginning to end. It starts at 5:30am with a 4-hour bus ride into the island, then a 1-hour boat ride to the whale area, around 1.5 hours of the whales, then everything going back. It’s extremely cold, you DO get wet (you have overalls, but to the very least, your face will get wet), and in general, I don’t think there is enough warning about all this. If you feel this might be too much, choose the other type of boat.
The tour operator was literally just transportation. The communication was nearly non-existent from the bus through to the location where we were suited for the cold weather. There was also nearly no communication on the boat. One of the "guides" would say "over there" from behind everyone. There is no way to even turn your head to see which way he might be indicating given all the winter wear and suits you are wearing. The whales were cool, but we probably saw them for about a total of 10 minutes on a 12 hour day.
The early start in the ice and snow was worth it. Timekeeping is important to ensure maximum time on the water. The boat trip itself feels like an adventure from the start. We were lucky enough to see Fin Whales and Orcas feeding. One of the best wildlife watching experiences I have ever had! Only disappointment is that I will probably never enjoy another whale watching trip as much as this one - haha!
It took us only 5 mins from the port to see the orcas and whales. They were left and right. Such an amazing experience. Our guide was so informative. She knows what she’s really doing. It’s like she owns that area. 😂😂 I forgot her name but she said she used to live in Fiji. I hope she reads this review. Thank you.
It’s a once in a lifetime trip but not for the faint hearted as hard going saw so many whales and orcas they really get you where you need to be, they hurry you along but to get the return ferry the driver needs to leave promptly I will never forget this experience
Got to see lots of orcas, which was my life goal. Definitely recommend if you’re traveling with someone or family. As a solo traveler, I feel so-so about recommending. Not the friendliest staff but again, I got to see whales and was warm throughout the experience thanks to their equipment.
We were very lucky and saw over 50! Orcas in total. It was a really amazing trip and experience. Being in a RIB Boat was an incredible experience but it was also super cold 🥶
This was a amazing tour from the beginning to the end! The captain of the boat was amazing . She made sure we saw the Orcas and Humpback whales.
Although an early start as it was January & a bit of a journey from Tromso to Skjervoy it was definitely worth it. You get all the gear to wear to keep you warm & dry on the RIB. We saw pods of Orca, they were feeding & came close to the boat. The crew give you chance to see them from both sides of the boat. We also saw 4 or 5 humpback whales that were resting. It was starting to get a bit choppy on the way back to the harbour so be prepared for a bumpy, wet but fun ride! An amazing experience that I will remember always. Highly recommended.
Such a wonderful experience. Finally got to see HumpBack whales in the wild! Saw atleast 10 or more swimming, playing and feeding. Also saw a Fin Whale, the 2nd largest mammal to Grace this earth. One of the most breathtaking, once in a lifetime experience. Øystein and his crew were super informative, kind and very entertaining. Highly recommend this tour.
It was awesome to be so close. However it was so cold. My mittens were not enough. Take the goggles when offered. We were given only a sandwich after with no water available or anywhere to warm up.
We went whale watching. Thanks to the great whale sightings, so thanks to mother nature +5 stars. -4 stars for the organizer and his service. Anyone who has paying guests should also treat them courteously. A little tip: There are seminars for social skills. So -4+5=1
This was an adventure and an amazing experience! The tour guide was super nice, knowledgeable and very aware of what she was doing. Get ready to get wet.
Last year, we had done a big boat excursion to view whales from a distance, and thought we would give this a try now. After the 3.5 hour bus ride to Skjervøy, we were given thermal suits, shoes, mittens, balaclavas and goggles to change in to before getting on the boat. While undoubtedly necessary, the gear was a little restrictive and uncomfortable, but not unbearable. The boat was quite tightly packed, but we each had our own seats, although it was often hard to film past people sitting right in front of or next to you. We got great views of Orcas for the majority of the trip, following pods along and seeing them peak their heads out repeatedly before diving. Towards the end of the trip we also had a close sight of a humpback who was resting near the surface for a while. Overall, the views of whales were amazing, however, if you are trying to get good pictures and videos, there may be better options.
The whale watch was incredible. We saw orcas, humpbacks, and minke whales. It did not disappoint. I see reviews saying how rushed it felt. We were on a bus from Tromso. Every minute the bus runs behind that is less time on the boat due to limited sunlight. Our bus had to stop a few time’s either for road cleanup of falling debris then we waited 15 minutes for a tunnel. No fault of the bus driver. When you arrive yes they rush to get you ready but for your benefit. They want you to be able to spend as much time on the water as possible. Yes, you are rushed again to get all the gear off and loaded on the bus. Why because you take two ferries back to Tromso. The bus driver has to get there on time for the ferries. Indeed you will be handed a sandwich to go. Which was delicious. The bus has a try table to eat on. First ferry has drinks and chips if you are thirsty or hungry. Just know it will rushed. My recommendations waterproof socks for extreme cold weather. Our feet were warm with them. Second get glove liners for your gloves. Only part that was cold was my face. It was a cold day 27 degrees Fahrenheit.
While we were very blessed to see so many whales and orcas and that was the main aim, I was a little disappointed with the manner in which the tour was conducted. It felt rushed , there was no greeting or introduction, very little information was given whilst on the RIB, or only to the front few rows and that most of the whale activity was manly on one side of the boat. We were then rushed out the door with a pannini in hand. I have done many types of tours around the world but this one just lacked a little passion and thought for those who spent the time and their money to attend.
We had an amazing time! Although the weather was very bad we were extremely lucky and saw Orcas and Humpbacks! The tour guides really tried everything to find the perfect spot and they did not fail :) I would recommend that experience to anyone!!
Having read mixed reviews, I was slightly nervous, but I have to say I now understand a lot more both the positives and negatives. Firstly, it's a long day. You are going to be up very early to get to Skjervoy on time to maximise the daylight and time out on the boat. It's roughly 4 hours on the coach each way, and at a rough estimate, probably 30-40 mins by RIB to where the whales are, and then the same in reverse. The reviews on here talking about feeling rushed - I won't argue, it did feel like you're not doing anything fast enough (getting suited up etc) but I understand that the goal is maximum time out actually on the excursion, if it takes people 20 mins to get ready, it's 10 minutes less out on the water. It helps if you all help each other get into your thermal suits and boots, and use the toilet on the coach before you get there to save the whole trip queuing for the toilet when you arrive as again, it's all time that could be spent at sea. The guides were not as excitable as other tour guides I've encountered, but they clearly knew their craft and were very professional, I felt like I was in safe hands throughout. The experience itself was out of this world. The RIB trip alone in that scenary is incredible and exhilarating, but nothing compared to seeing these magnificent creatures in the wild. We saw 3 different pods of Orca, and being in a RIB and as such, down on the same level as the whales, just took it to a whole other universe. The company went closer than I've been on previous trips, but never harassed the whales, just shut the engine off and let the whales do as they please, whether that was to stick around or move away, and with only a small number of people in the boat, the photo opportunities were outstanding. No-one in our group suffered any sea sickness, but it is worth considering at least having some travel pills or ginger pills just in case. Once back, its business like once again to get everyone back into their civvies and onto the waiting bus, with freshly made sandwiches that largely got eaten on the way back to tromso. As someone who hates coach travel, I was worried about 8 hours worth, but I have to say this experience is worth every minute spent travelling and every penny spent paying for it! Completely unforgettable, experience of a lifetime!
Really bad (really improvavble). No management control, following up of customers or phone number to contact. If you have a problem, you are sold. Different groups saw different things "whales, orcas" and we were all in the same bus... So for a "premium" experience, where you pay quite a lot, you do not have the same experience. NO time alignment between the booking app and the emails. The fact of seeing whales does not justify bad management or customer attention. Have a nice activity does not mean that a business is well managed. We did experiences like those before and I could not be more dissapointed. I will not spend more time of my life saying the other 30 things I could add. I would personally would go for another option, however this is not to biaise anyone but to provide info. Highlight that the people doing the tours were nice, friendly and well-informed. Note that all the reviews saying bad things or improvable things in this tour, are answered impolitely and probably not fairly, so whoever or however this is answered take that into account.
One of those rare events which divide your life to before and after I did it. Powerful. Beautiful. Unbelievable. Calm winds and quite warm weather+4c, lots of orchas present and three humpback whales were more than enough to make overwhelmingly happy! Especially because Jan 22nd the season for whales was quite late. Things to remember if you go: it's wet and cold, take care of your gloves and wear the facemask provided by organizer! Wear at least four layers of clothing! If you are likely to get seasick, take medication in time. It's a jumpy ride! Enjoy! It's worth every penny!! 😍
I had a good time. Sadly I didn’t see orcas but I saw 3 whales amazing. You get a suite, gloves, etc… my advice wear double socks and wear your own gloves underneath the gloves they give you. It is very cold. People who complain or don’t have the patient shouldn’t be going on this trip. Oh and the sandwich they give you after taste delicious.
Regarding the activity itself, it is hard to say something negative: it was fun, we got to see whales and the landscape is amazing. Instead, everything regarding the organisation and the dealing with people was quite disappointing. There was a lack of explanation about more technical stuff (because it's not only about watching the whales but also to learn), for example species that we could see. We were informed about some things only once in the boat, where you can barely hear something. In addition, everything was done in such a hurry! There is not a warm place to change our clothes properly even if it was snowing. The same happened when we came back after finishing the activity. We were basically said to change quickly and go to the bus that was leaving soon, so we ate our meals super in a hurry outside and still with so much cold. It's a pity because it's a nice activity but it could be done with much more care (I have experienced myself in the past doing similar activities in other places).
It took a place on the Top 3 ecperiences in my life! It is epic!! The clothes as you see on my picture provided from the the tour company...They are so good at their job and doing their best for you!!
Absolutely epic! Bus driver Björn was such a sweetheart. Definitely bring a bit of food with you because it’s a really long day. The boat ride was exhilarating and we got so close to the whales, a humpback popped up right next to the rib. Saw several pods of orca and humpback and was truly a dream come true.
Absolutely worth the trip, we have seen Orcas, Humpback Whales, and Fin Whales in the most Beautiful Nature surrounding that you can imagine. The stuff and guides are very friendly and professional, they will explain you all you need and take care of you in the best way. Hole bodysuit, gloves, glasses, and boots for the water are given. Defn recommended for Whale and Nature lovers . Loved everything about it.
It has been an incredibly beautiful experience, we have seen some Orcas, Humbback whales and Fin whales. The view and surroundings are just mesmerizing beautiful. The Guides are very professional and very friendly. They sort you out with suite, glasses, gloves and boots. Denf recommend it to Whale and Nature Lovers.
