We had very rough seas (in fact we turned around). This happens. We didn’t see any whales (this happens too). That being said, even with many of us very seasick, the staff was so attentive and fantastic. They were checking on everyone who was seasick and talking us though it, assuring us we were safe despite the very rocky seas. The company can’t control the seas or the whales, but what they can control was 100% on point and great. The company even offered us a free trip on Friday. Really tried to accommodate.

From start to finish amazing day staff amazing formative re wildlife spacious comfortable catamaran the day was am amazing first time experience
Very informative guide. Comfortable warm boat. Knowledge of area and where to find the wildlife was excellent. We saw humpback whales, orcas and sea eagles
An amazing experience. Great guide, full of information.
The tour was very good, and the boat was very nice and clean. The guide was very helpful. and knowledgable about whales I would recommend this tour
Really enjoyed it, lovely catamaran with comfortable lounge, very clean, lovely friendly knowledgeable crew, highly recommend for a lovely trip!!
Sighting of (only 2 sperm) Whales was limited to tiny specs in the distance. Taking 3 hours to find them and 3 hours to get back to Tromso. Over 70% of the passengers suffering from Sea sickness. It wasnt a pleasent trip. No advance warning given to the limited chance of seeing any Whales nor the likelyhood of Sea sickness. Extremely dissappointing.😞
Plenty of seats available and Lorenzo was very helpful and knowledgeable on the area and its wildlife. We were lucky enough to see a few families of orcas. Worth every penny
We had a great time on the whale safari adventure. From start to finish the stuff on the boat was amazing. Great explanation from the guid, lots of details about the area we traveled and more importantly the details about the whales. We were very lucky on the day as we saw so many orcas first then it followed with many humpback again orcas and few fin whales all swimming together. It was the greatest experience for the day. .
Comfortable boat, great tour guide Mario who explained a lot about the whales. We saw orcas and humpbacks. Limited food on board, but otherwise an excellent day out.
Great day out, Mario and the team were fantastic. Super knowledgable and friendly! Managed to see a few different groups of orcas and the northern lights.
Trip of a life time, Anna and Anna our guides were amazing extremely knowledgeable thank you..seen both orcas /humpback whales...including breaching...amazing sight...never seen so many whales..really good company rodne are very respectful of the wildlife...highly recommend them..
Great saw humpback, pilot whales and orcas Seeing orcas on way back was great We were given talks about whales If we got closer views of the whales, and hot drinks and lunch was included the cost would be good but slightly over priced Booking though trip advisor meant we were first on boat Gave us choice of where to sit which was very warm and comfy Staff played a game that if the door was always closed when we used it he would tell us a secret He told us a place to go for free to see reindeers and also tips about Norway Places to go Whale island Good experience
Perfect team speed boat. Very good communication Fine chairs. Gentleman personnel. I recommand this boat to the familie or like me with my son Kami 23 up . We’ve had a great time watching himbaks, odkąd
Excellent day out - great guides and lots of information given. We were lucky to see a large pod of orcas and two humpback whales.
Great experience, the crew were knowledgeable and friendly! We saw orcas swimming for ages which was awesome ☺️
Highly recommend this tour. Guides were friendly and professional. Saw humpbacks, orcas and even the Northern Lights on way back to dock. Great experience.
What an amazing trip fabulous boat with a fabulous friendly crew. The crew were also very knowledgeable and passionate about the whales, one of the best things I've ever done. Definitely going back in the future.
We booked this last minute and we were so glad we did! The boat was a smooth trip and the tour guides were great. We saw lots of orcas and even a fin whale! The trip in total was 6 hours (9-3) so it was nice to still have some of the afternoon once we docked. Thanks again!
Well equipped boat Knowledgeable and informative guide, who made sure everyone got to see the awesome whales Great day to see orcas and fin whales The highlight of our trip to Tromso
The staff is exceptional, especially Lorenzo, whose english is on the high level, clear and excellent pronunciation, and above everything he's very informational, about whales and generally. The other staff are very polite and reachable. Seeing whales are lifetime experience! Worth every penny spent!
The humpback whale viewing was difficult because guests at the front wouldn’t kneel to allow more people to see. Otherwise, the guide was great and seeing the orcas was delightful! The cabin was comfortable and overall we really enjoyed our experience
We really enjoyed the trip and were very fortunate to see a number of orcas and humpback whales. The team on the MS Gabriele was very friendly and informative about the locality and the animals. Great insight. One positive of choosing the Gabriele was that it is the fastest way to travel to the feeding grounds so we could spend longer watching the whales.
Great tour through the islands, we managed to see orcas and humpback whales, as well as some great landscapes. Great guide in Raul too, would recommend.
Excellent trip on a very comfortable and warm boat.Fortunate to seea large pod of orcas and 3 humpback whales, plenty of time observing.
Do not look at any other companies in Tromso for Whale trips - We were booked on an overnight with another company this was cancelled at short notice, they then booked us on a day trip the following day, this was cancelled "due poor weather" mmmm. I met Raul at the harbour who knew that our trip was cancelled before we knew! Doing his job he offered all the disappointed people seats on his cruise that was leaving at 9am. We all accepted and headed off to the boat, in hindsight this was a better and faster boat and spent more time at the whale grounds. Getting there was a little rough but we loved it, once at the whale grounds it was calm and we saw 20/30 Orca and two Humpbacks, a brilliant day out. The crew were excellent, a few people were a little sea sick going out and they were well looked after. Raul was a credit to the company, not only had he secured them another 70+ customers, he got us the cruise that made our holiday. Onboard Raul was giving us info on what we expected to see, with a lot of humour and fun, give the lad a well deserved bonus.
We had such a great day out this week with Raul and the gang. We headed off at 9am and went full gas for the north and whales, Raul was entertaining throughout and the bar pumped out coffees. Couple of people felt unwell but, comes with the territory, make sure you take meds and go outside for air when you first feel it. It soon flattens out! We saw probably 50 orca and they came so close to the boat, lots with babies, we saw a humpback and honestly - it was magical. Raul kept us entertained on the way back, hotdogs were superb and seats were so comfy after a long day - everyone slept most of the way back. A thoroughly brilliant day, tears all round at seeing the orcas up so close and in the wild living such a brilliant life.
Note for the travel sick - if your original boat cancels because of bad weather, maybe accept that and chill out on shore, I think this is the poorliest I’ve ever felt. HOWEVER, the guides and staff were super supportive and helpful which was reassuring. Our original trip was cancelled and the guide was walking past and offered space on their trip departing slightly later than ours. Our original company hadn’t sent out the cancellation email until around the time we were due to depart so we were kitted out, ready to go and then had the rug pulled out from under us. Getting a seat on the Gabriele was great luck, and saved our day. We hit a particularly rough patch about 20/30 minutes from leaving which was obviously why the other trip had cancelled. Sick bags were promptly handed round and collected back in via bin bag once used. It lasted what felt like a lifetime but I fell asleep towards the end and by the time I woke up, we were being called outside for a pod of orcas. The guide was excellent in moving people around so we all got chance to see clearly and take pictures. A humpback then appeared in the distance and we drifted towards it to get a closer look. The guide was incredibly knowledgable and kind, offering hints and tips for getting the most out of tromso on our way back to dock. All in all, it was a terrifying, excellent day out. Would do again, though maybe buy some sea sickness tablets ahead of the journey!
This is one of the best days out I, and my family, have ever had. We departed at 9am sharp, and our tour guide was absolutely brilliant, teaching us about whales, orcas and interesting Norwegian facts during our journey out to the whales. We were lucky enough to see humpback whales, a whole pod of orcas and a sea eagle. Even if you don’t see any whales though, the scenery through the Fjords is spectacularly breathtaking, and the tour guides are so informative and interesting. The seats are so comfy and there is a handy snack and coffee bar on board. Thoroughly worth the money, a fantastic day. All facilities are immaculate as well! Plenty of blankets if you get chilly. I recommend sitting towards the rear of the boat by the window if you get sea sick but I was absolutely fine on board with just a sea sickness band ☺️
MS Gabrielle offered a friendly and warm atmosphere with the chance to view multiple pods of Orcas! We had our pre booked tickets cancelled by the Brim Explorer due to poor weather conditions without availability for rebooking before we flew back. This all happened on the day we were travelling from London to Norway, upon arriving we quickly found availability on the MS Gabrielle and are SO glad we did! Highly recommend booking with them ☺️
Great bunch of folks running the ship, helpful and chatty. Guide gave an in interesting talk on the whale's of the area. Managed to get really good view of Orcas and two hump backed whale's.
Amazing day out, in addition to finding spots where we saw both humpback whales and orcas, the tour guide spent a lot of time answering the million questions from my children.
What a wunderfull trip! The guides were so very kind, clever and funny throughout the 9 hours we were on the boat. Eventhough it was very early in the season, we saw both Ocras and Humpback whales very close to the ship! YEAH! Just go!
Very knowledgeable staff and although the whales didn't come out to play a lot, the orcas fins and a hump back whale breach was seen by some people on the cruise.
The guide was very knowledgeable! We got to see a pod of Orcas and two sets of Humpback whales on the trip. The ship we were on had a front deck, upper back deck, and lower back deck. Make sure to wear your extra warm clothes as it is a lot colder out on the water with the wind (we went in early January). Highly recommend purchasing Dramamine if you get motion sick, they sell the sea bands but my wife started to feel a but faint even with both the meds and bands. The tour takes most of the day but you get to see lots of pretty scenery. We even got to see one of the Norwegian salmon farms on the way back. The trip did not provide free food, but the food on the boat was not over priced. On our trip they sold traditional Norwegian candy that my wife and I shared with a cup of ramen and some snacks we had also packed for the trip.
What an amazing trip! Unfortunately we were too late in the year for whales but knew it was a long shot, however this didn’t detract from what a wonderfully comfortable boat the MS Gabrielle is, warm, super comfortable and the crew were amazing going all out to make it the great trip it was, our guide Vincenzo was so lovely and super knowledgeable about the area, friendly and keen to answer any questions such a lovely guy, we stopped at an island to see white tailed eagles which were wow! And some fantastic other sites I would totally recommend this trip and crew thanks again Vincenzo my ‘posh’ friend 😊👍🏻
Whales were not available but the substitute was over-sold. Significantly fewer birds and animals were seen than promised and the fishing village had nothing to offer.
I had a read a few reviews beforehand so was aware that it is a long trip with a short viewing time but it was worth it. The boat is large with very comfortable seats and the inside area was a good temperature, and there are blankets available if you are cold. The staff I spoke to were lovely. The information given out at various times was interesting and clear. We did visit at the end of the whale season but we were lucky enough to see 3 sperm whales and their tails as they dived. I also spent about 15 minutes watching a sea eagle. The journey can be rough in places so do take a sea sickness tablet - I normally struggle but it worked a treat and I was fine. I would suggest taking your own food and snacks as there is very little available on board.
It was an amazing experience, the cruise team was very good, Raul the whale expert was very knowledgeable about whales and guided the tour in a fun and interesting way, after we reached high seas we were able to see the whales and it was incredible. Raul went the extra mile when ensuring to share the best video taken of a close whale encounter at sunset that amazed all of us.
Amazing experience can’t recommend this trip enough. Reccomend getting early to assure a good seat, but best times spent on the deck! Really cool experience very impressed with the facilities on board also!
Went on whale safari with MS Gabriele. Seen Hunchbacks, Orcas, Fin Whales. Fantastic day. Nice guide team. Again anytime!
Was ok. We enjoyed it though it was a pity our rib boats were cancelled. The crew fit a lot of effort to help the people who were not well
Some confusion at the start as a large group of us arrived at the designated spot but with no boat or staff to indicate we were at the right place. There are lots of boats on the quay so it wasn’t clear whether we were at the right place. Once on the boat the experience was much better. MS Gabrielle is warm and comfortable inside, it is not in the slightest cramped. You can access the front, rear, and top deck and there is easily enough space for everyone on board. The 3hr journey to the whale site was generally smooth but there’s a 30 minute section where the water gets choppy - would recommend taking a tablet before getting on board. The staff are very knowledgeable and gave detailed presentations of the four whales you might see: Orcas, Sperm whale, Humpback and Fin whale. We had 45 mins at the feeding site and were very lucky to see a Fin Whale right in front of the boat. Otherwise we saw 5-10 humpback whales some from a distance some from close by. There are lots of smaller boats that get closer to the whales but this practice is likely to be unethical as it disturbs them. Overall you have to accept nature is nature when it comes to what animals you see but we were happy with the tour.
Not a great experience - the trip barely made it to 6 hours, if that, so feels like a rip off. We were one of the last boats to leave, but a first one to return but a long shot.. I get that the weather and lack of proper daylight this time of year is a factor, but there seemed no genuine interest from any crew on the boat to look for whales. Instead they seemed to be more interested in their phones, and getting the trip over with. Saw one pod of orcas, and even those were spotted by a fellow passenger and not the crew. There was an announcement that other boat saw some whales elsewhere, but that we won’t bother because ‘they might not be there by the time we get there’ - which is an absolute opposite statement from every other whale watching trip I’ve been on! That’s the whole point of it - to see whales, so no one looking out for them or making any effort made a really poor impression. I get that any sightings are not guaranteed, but the lack of effort was a real let down. As well as that, there were only 2 bathrooms for 170 or so people, some basic tea and coffee (but no milk..) and the boat just seemed way too small for the amount of people as some areas would get very crowded. So overall not a great experience & definitely not worth the money.
Crew were friendly and informative. We saw a pod of orcas but not in the ‘usual’ spot but as a consequence of stopping we no longer had time to go to the ‘usual’ spot of activity. The question is of course - better see something than risk seeing nothing. I think though it caught a lot of passengers off guard that we weren’t going to the area of normal activity for humpbacks too. All in all a good day of general sightseeing of the fjords. The downside like so many excursions was the chaos of finding ‘your’ trip in the overwhelming crowds of the many many trips.
Eide, the guide was fantastic and had an obvious love of her job. She was extremely well researched and knowledgeable which made it a fabulous experience. Seeing Orcas and Humpbacks in the wild was incredible. Wrap up warm and waterproof. Get a phone pouch. And take snacks and warm drinks. Well worth the money
What a great day out. We were lucky to see many Orca pods and Humpback Whales. The staff were very professional and knowledgeable. It was an interactive presentation of Orca and Humpbacks and the difference between whales with teeth and without. Very informative.
Having gone all the way to Tromso for my daughter's 21st birthday specifically to see some whales, the thing she wanted most, 12 hours before departure the trip was cancelled, leaving us with nothing to do on New Year's Eve and waiting to hear if the very large sum of money we paid will ever be refunded. Disappointing.
The crew members and the activity itself was good. Great views and decent orca and whale sighting. Crew member checked in on us and helped us out when needed. Do not underestimate the motion sickness bit as it is pretty bumpy when we get closer to the berent sea and several people threw up. This is only a part of the trip and not the whole time. They will give you a heads up. The worst part was, getting on the boat was chaotic. They had people booked on a different cruise whose boat broke down board first. They took all the good seats and the rest of us were left with whatever was there even though we have also paid to be on the boat. Also they changed the boarding location multiple times once they docked and finally there was no line and a bunch of people fighting to get on the boat. I expected better organization and communication.
It was exciting and fun and we met some great people, but the boat was very crowded and some shorter people got stuck behind taller people in the front and were not able to see the whales very well. Couldn't they install some risers with railings on the deck so that people in the back can see over those in the front?
