We chose this tour because a self drive dog sled excursion was not an option on our cruise. The meeting point was very close to our ship and the drive to the kennel was very scenic. You can tell the dogs are well cared for and love to run. There were stops along the trail for photos and we had beverages and cake back at the kennel. They provide additional clothing if you think you’ll need it. If you find yourself in Tromso and want to drive a dog sled, I recommend this tour. You will have a lot of fun.

Amazing from start to finish, staff and dogs absolutely love what they do. Dogs are friendly and well trained. Safety and equipment are excellent. Me and my wife went as our 60th birthday treat and loved every minuet of it !
As good as we hoped it would be! The tour was so well run, lovely people amazing scenery and the dogs were all lovely!
We never dog sledded before going to Tromso. We picked the tour based on review and the fact they picked people up in the city center. Plus that the bus was not huge. The drive to the tour takes a bit, and it was nice to see the landscape. When we got there, they are very organized, and you're dressed up and ready to go in no time. Meeting the dogs was so fun, and the whole sledding experience was incredible. Driving the sled is no small feat, and we quickly learnt the ropes. Guides are super friendly (and patient) and so are the dog. We so enjoyed that tour. Highly recommend!
Unfortunately i was on the Queen Victoria on a Norther Lights cruise, due to adverse weather we were unable to do this activity as the ship arrived in Tromso 6 hours late at 3:00 pm so wi missed this once in a lifetime opportunity.
So awesome! Super friendly people and snuggly dogs. An excellent tour which is a bit harder work than u might think. The driver has a lot to do. The passenger gets to relax. They stop several times to switch The snacks and hot cocoa are yummy
While in Finland and Norway, we enjoyed many arctic activities, but this was our favorite. We’re animal lovers and appreciate a thrill, and this offered both. The people were so kind and educated us on how to do the activity properly but also on how they (and more importantly, the pups!) prepare for it. Although it’s not ideal for children, we brought our 7-year-old and they made it safe and fun for all of us. There are lots of husky opps in the north, but this one appears to be one truly caring for the dogs. The dogs seem happy and are so eager to go for a fun run through the beautiful mountain side. I have no interest in a sport that gratifies me but at the same of the health and happiness of an animal, and these guys seem to do such an amazing job that both humans and pups are healthy and happy to be there.
This is a must do experience The dogs are so friendly and love cuddles be for you get good training on how the drive the sled and work the dogs The guides are so friendly and informative The drive is through beautiful snow covered scenery it’s a magical experience The refreshments following the sled were lovely in a big tent which had a fire and hot chocolate and cake - what more could you want All three of us loved the trip - highlight of our holiday - nature, animas, cake !!
This is an incredible experience and a true highlight of our trip to Norway. I was travelling with my husband and his family. My father in law is 77 and managed this no problem but he is very physically strong. The dogs are wonderful and the explanation and hospitality that was shown by our hosts was top notch. The scenery was beautiful and we just loved every moment of it.
Wonderful experience! The guides were fantastic an the dogs were amazing! The thermal suits they provided kept us nice and warm. Highly recommend!
This was a fantastic experience! Self driving the sleds was thrilling, and the dogs were obviously the highlight. You could see how much they were loved, and loved working. Playing with the huskies was the highlight of our stay for my daughter.
Superb day sledging with husky dogs for around an hour and a half, great experience, definitely once in a lifetime, recommended
Tour is very well orgnize. The operator is very knowledgeable and friendly and explain in detail before heading out for the ride by yourself. We spent am leat 1.5 hours in the beautiful landscape outside. The your guide took care of us all along. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who like the outside and try dog sledding.
This is an amazing enjoyable experience which I would highly recommend. Yes it is expensive but so worth it. The team at Arctic Adventures were helpful and friendly and the dogs were gorgeous. Such a beautiful adventure through a forest trail with stunning scenery and then drink and cake and learning about the huskies.
Our Tromsø Husky Self-Drive Sledding experience with Arctic Adventure Tours AS in Tromsø was absolutely incredible and one of the highlights of our trip to Norway. From the moment we arrived, the team was professional, organized, and safety-focused. They gave careful attention to every participant, making sure we understood the journey and felt comfortable before heading out. We were also provided with warm clothing to change into, which ensured everyone stayed comfortable in the Arctic conditions. The dog sledding adventure itself was exhilarating. The dogs are clearly very well cared for, energetic, and eager to run, which made the experience even more special. All of the sledding equipment was modern, well maintained, and easy to handle, helping everyone feel confident on the trail. We brought a group of seven people, including a 78-year-old, and every single person said this was their absolute favorite activity of the entire trip. After the ride, we loved spending time in the traditional Lavvu tent, warming up with delicious cake and hot beverages while enjoying the cozy atmosphere. The owner was also very informative and happy to answer questions, adding an educational element to the adventure. If you’re visiting Tromsø and looking for a truly memorable Arctic experience, this is it. Highest recommendation for anyone in the area.

Really well organised, good fun, and they care a lot for the dogs. No problem with pickup and return.
The afternoon was absolutely flawless. From the collection onwards everything was superbly organised. The sledding itself is amazing. It feels extremely authentic to be out in the wild with the dogs and with the snow coming come. The kit provided kept you totally snug (especially after helping push the sled up some slopes!). Just over an hour felt right. You take to it quite quickly so by the end you really lapping up everything around you. We were a full group and we split into two which meant we had a perfect pace and the environment felt like a proper Arctic wilderness. The staff were great. The instruction was comprehensive without being over-powering and afterwards being served hot chocolate and delicious cake was a great reward. And of course a shout out for the stars of the show, the dogs. We had a great opportunity to interact with them and they were wonderful. This is memory I will take home the most from our Tromso adventure I think.
Fantastic experience, although extremely expensive.
Absolutely wonderful. The organisation was perfect, and the team were so friendly and helpful. The sledding was fantastic, and well planned (no massive uphills!). The dogs were so well cared for, and we had lots of time to pet them before and after the sledding. Really brilliant.
This was a highlight of our trip to Tromso. I am actually quite scared of dogs so was nervous about husky sledding, however I need not have worried. The staff are amazing and immediately put you at ease. The dogs are loved and well looked after. After some brief training, we were led to our pack of dogs and the sled. Taking it in turns to drive, it was surprisingly easy and the dogs were clearly having a great time too. The scenery was amazing - we could've spent the whole day out on the snow. After the sledding, it was time for a hot drink and a delicious piece of cake, while a member of staff told us all about the dogs. It was an incredible way to spend an afternoon and is highly recommended. Would love to do it again!
Absolutely incredible experience! Dress warmly but not to worry if you forget anything, they have it available to borrow. I wish I could have taken a retired dog home with me. They clearly have wonderful lives and all of the people training them are so welcoming and helpful, answering all of your questions. I wish I could do this every day. The experience is one my husband and I will never forget.
This is a well organized outfitter. They picked us up ( a few minutes late) then took us to the compound about 40 minutes away. They have over 200 dogs, so they are well prepared to handle the groups. When you arrive, they will give you appropriate clothing, boots then a short explanation on how to drive the dogs. It's absolutely amazing. The dogs are extremely well trained. The drive is beautiful. They stop a few times so you can alternate between driver and passenger. After you can play with the dogs, who are extremely well trained. Then into a latvuu for hot chocolate and cakes. Awesome!
What an exciting experience! We were picked up on time in a very nice van. The operators were knowledgeable & spoke beautiful English. They gave very thorough instructions on how to operate the sled. We went through some of the most picturesque landscapes we’ve ever seen. It was far beyond our expectations. Highly recommend this tour! You’ll have wonderful memories & pictures to look back on.
One of the best things I've even done! Absolutely wonderful experience. The dogs are so happy and enthusiastic, and it is the most magical way to witness the Arctic landscape. You need some level of fitness to keep up, so this is worth bearing in mind but the guides are very helpful and the dogs are wonderful.
This is an exceptional experience. Pick up outside Tromsø on route was seamless. The equipment was high quality suits & boots. Clear explanation & lots of time to meet the dogs before the fabulous sledging experience with expert guides. Our team struggled initially so immediately an extra dog & new lead dog were added and were transformed to speed us along. Afterwards loads of time & explanation about the dogs with warm drinks and delicious carrot cake. Brilliant day!
This was a wonderful, fun and exciting experience. We were thankful for the warm suits. Great guides who were very knowledgeable. This was once in a lifetime! The scenery and views were beautiful. It was fun to lead the husky’s, though confidence is needed! And thank up for allowing our 11 year old the chance to lead with one of your team. She is our animal lover and was so disappointed she couldn’t lead - until one of you supported her and taught her how to do this. Thank you for your kindness and expertise. You all clearly love these husky’s and they are very loved,
So much fun from start to finish. Great dogs and gorgeous scenery! Lovely snacks at the end. Highly recommend!
Amazing! This was so much fun! My wife and I had the best time. The guides were friendly and helpful and the dogs are unbelievable and so happy! They just want to run! Take a go pro if you have one the videos we have are a great memory.
Excellent experience from start to finish, informative, safe, fun. Just enough time to do everything. The dogs were well cared for and great to handle up close.
It was truly amazing, the best excursion I have ever experienced! The dogs were gentle and the guides were very knowledgeable and kind.
Excellent afternoon meeting the dogs then what felt like a long drive out with our sled. It was a bit daunting at first as the dogs get very excited when they know they are about to go but everything settles down once you are moving. Staff were excellent and the hot chocolate and cake welcome after the sledding. The guide talked to us about the dogs, how they train them and it was really interesting. Highly recommend.
Had a great time! The hosts were wonderful and you can tell they really cared for the dogs. Beautiful day right at the end of the Polar Nights with a little sunrise. Highly recommend!
If you’re looking to experience a great dog sledding excursion while in Tromsø, definitely look into this tour. It started when we met our driver at the pick-up point out in front of the Scandic Ishavshotel by the port around 1 pm and ended when we got dropped back off around 5 pm. The drive to the dog camp took about 35 minutes; when we got there, we were given heavy winter gear to put on for the excursion and then we went outside to meet the dogs. Once outside, our guides briefed us on how to use the sleds. Once the briefing was done, we got assigned to a sled and a team of dogs. The dog sledding experience lasted about 45 minutes to 1 hour and we had an excellent time. Once it was done, we congratulated and showed our appreciation to the dogs, which they loved, and then we went inside to warm up and enjoy some hot drinks and snacks while hearing about the history of sled dogs from one of our guides. After that, we said our final goodbyes to the sled dogs, went inside and turned in the winter gear they gave us, then got back on the minibus to head back to Tromsø. Overall, we had a fantastic time and a big thank you to our guides, including Chloe, Laura, Katarina, and Paulina, for the excellent job they all did leading us on this dog sledding excursion. Also, shout-out to our driver, Asbjoern, for transporting us to and from the dog camp safe and sound… there was heavy snow outside. So yes, definitely look into doing this tour with this tour operator if you’re looking for a great dog sledding experience in Tromsø. I highly recommend them! - Nolan
Excellent experience. A true dog sledding adventure. Our team of dogs really wanted to run and I had to use the brake a lot. Highly recommend this time with the animals. They are so wonderful.
Whoever drives needs to really strong and in good shape. It takes a lot of strength to slow the dogs down.
As the other reviews say, it was a wonderful and fun experience. It was well organized and well attended to. The dogs are well taken care of and very happy. We had chocolate cake with hot chocolate after which was delicious. Highly recommend!
Best experience I’ve ever had. Our guides were great, telling us about the dogs and really looked after us. Cannot recommend enough!
Amazing experience driving your own sled of huskies! Husband and I were allowed to switch often, as it is quite physical! Scenery was amazing, even snowed on our ride! Lifetime experience come true- highly recommend. They supply boots and Arctic gear- comfortable cab pick up as well
What a phenomenal experience. All the employees were so friendly, the dogs are beautiful and so much fun to drive your own sled! Great hot chocolate too!
Lovely setting about 35 minutes from Tromso, very warm suits and boots, and enjoyable ride in a beautiful setting. There was about 16 of us, but the group was split so we had 3 sleds following the guide which was nice and made the ride smoother. It was a bit slow though, they warned us on how fast the dogs wanted to go but the guide was keeping the ride quite slow. Very enjoyable none the less. Plenty of cake later in the lavvu and a chance to ask Plenty of questions about the dogs.
Just Wow! Such a welcome from both people and dogs. I was worried it would be over before we felt we had experienced it properly but I didn’t need to. We had the best time and would thoroughly recommend.
This tour was fantastic from start to finish. Pick up arrived at approximately 8.45 and left at 9 prompt. The driver was friendly and welcoming. On arrival you are given a thermal snow suit and boots. The huskies were absolutely gorgeous and super friendly. You can tell how loved they are by all the staff. The dog sledding was just magical. The trail is approximately 12km. My sister and I took it in turns to drive. The scenery was breathtaking and the huskies were incredible. Once finished you are welcomed with a delicious hot chocolate and slice of cake. The staff also tell you all about the huskies and invite questions after. An experience we'll never forget.
it was an unique experience! We’ve enjoyed every moment! All was really professional taking care and the staff were friendly and we felt welcome. it was really excited to see the dogs, and be there such as nice experience.
This is a beautiful experience with dogs that are so happy. My daughters are animal lovers and they were skeptical about the happiness of the dogs until they saw them. They both agreed that these dogs were well taken care of and extremely happy to pull the sleighs. The staff was kind and knowledgeable.
The best part of our trip so far! My mom and I are on a Viking cruise, and I'm so glad I booked this. It was a fantastic experience and so much fun! Worth every penny. The dogs were amazing and we had a nice long run (at least an hour, maybe longer) out on the land. We stopped now n then to take turns being driver and passenger. The suits, gloves and boots they provided were perfect and we stayed warm, even when we were going into the wind. We had time to love on the dogs throughout the experience as well as take memorable photos and videos. The time in the laavu was warm and lovely as well, with hot drinks and tasty cakes! Book this trip, you won't regret it!
We got super lucky! It was a sunny day with fresh powder from the night before. A few Alaskan Huskies were slightly scared of people while most were happy, barking. howling and rearing to go. Once they get going, they want to run all out and you have to slow them down and sometimes help them up small hills. Our lead dog was somewhat judgemental, looking back as if he was wondering why I wasn't helping him up the hill or why we were slowing down. Back at camp, we got some cake and hot chocolate, while the dogs were resting, wanting pets, hugs and belly rubs. A most memorable trip!
Great day out. Very well organised and good instructions. Lovely dogs and well looked after. So much fun
We may have made a mistake scheduling the dog sledding for our first day in Tromso, because now we’re not sure if the rest of our schedules tours will be as wonderful as this one. The entire experience was great - the instruction on how to drive the sled, the beautiful views, the sledding itself, getting to meet the sweet dogs, and the delicious chocolate cake at the end. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone considering a dog sledding tour!
We booked the 9am slot, arrive early! our uber was running late, we arrived at 9.03 and bus was just pulling away thankfully after a dash we caught it just in time. The location is a short journey from pick up. Nice comfortable transport. Upon arrival we had the option of thermal suits & boots, regardless of how wrapped up you are, put on the additional layers you will thank yourself later! Esp if playing and greeting the dogs some like to jump up for cuddles. After we got into our additional layers we were able to go outside to see all 130 dogs, it was great to interact with them at your own pace / leisure all very friendly, lovely dogs, afterwards is a short demo of how to ride the sledge & safety precautions when braking etc, it was fairly straightforward to pick up. We were then taken round to our sleds and dogs to set off, the journey was great, sufficient time to take in the landscape and enjoy the activity, guide stopped to allow for groups to changeover (ie who sits on sled & who wishes to drive) guide also paused to take a few photos of each individual couple. It was an easy going thoroughly enjoyable ride. Upon return we were welcomed into a large cosy teepee for hot drinks and cake, again which we thoroughly enjoyed, the owner brought in one of the dogs and answered questions for the group, overwell it was a very wholesome experience which I would definetly do again & highly recommend! Thanks again for making our tromso trip even more magical and unforgettable.
