I never went on the cruise because, as a solo female traveler, I was not comfortable taking a taxi alone at 11 p.m. to return to my ship. When I booked, the excursion was advertised as departing from the dock. What was not made clear was that there are two docks, and the departure location was approximately 2.5 miles from where my cruise ship was docked. When I contacted the company to request either transportation or a refund, I was simply told to take a taxi. I found their response dismissive and their advertising misleading. Had the actual departure location been clearly disclosed, I would never have booked this excursion. I would recommend choosing a company that provides accurate information about departure locations and takes customer concerns seriously, particularly those of women traveling alone.

I was traveling solo and booked this dinner cruise to take myself out for a nice meal. The food was delicious, and the staff was kind and knowledgeable. We even caught the auroras!
We were thrilled that we got to see northern lights on the cruise. One of the staff members alerted us that they could see the lights and when we went outside, we were very excited.
Beautiful views and great staff with lots of local knowledge and history. Food was excellent and fresh Arctic cod with veggies.
The weather was not good enough ti see the auroras during the cruise, but we had a nice dinner and the information shared by tbe crew was very nice. Emma (?) was our host and she did a great work explaining everything Arctic and aurora related. She even gave us a condensed history about the explorers. It was a nice experience, too bad tbe weather was not on our side.
The cruise was really nice. The 3-Course Dinner was high quality, delicious and with vestiges of local ingredients, which made it even more special. I haven't experienced the actual Nothern Lights on the occasion, but the tour was definitely worth it. Excellent option for couples and families.
Everything we expected and more - excellent food (my gluten issue impeccably tackled), wonderful guides and aurora borealis on top! The latter should never be taken for granted, so thank you, northern lights! 😉
Food was delicious, the guides were great - and we were lucky to see the Aurora a few times on our journey. Even if we hadn't been though - the nighttime views were stunning.
Exceeded our expectations, really good quality meal, lovely hostesses (Ellie, Venga, Roxanna.. so sorry didn't get all the names). We were super lucky with the Aurora too! Very informative talks throughout too which were just right.
A lovely way to spend the evening on the water, and in our case, see some amazing NLights. It’s pretty casual, and well organised, and the Food is fine for what it is, and you’re on a small boat.
Our guides Alberto, Emma and Sandra (apologies if I misheard your names) were terrific. Even though there was a mixup with my ticket, they were very accommodating and kept dropping by to check if I needed anything. We were also really lucky and saw some incredible aurora displays from the boat.
We were sent incorrect information by Viator. We were told the meeting point was 19.15. On arrival they had just removed the gangplank and were leaving. Luckily they let us on the boat. There was a lot ot tutting and eye rolling from other passagers. The crew said that they knew of this problem and it would have been ok as they would refunded our money and we could re book. But we wouldn't have been able to as it it was our last night. This needs to be fixed asap to avoid spoiling people's vacation plans. We did not see any lights but the trip itself was a nice change. The food was good and the staff friendly and entertaining. As with most things here it is expensive for what it is. I am happy we did it but would not return.
Not too bad but I would not recommend to do it if you are tired. The food was ok. Didn’t see northern lights as it was cloudy.
Really enjoyed this cruise!! The team on the 27th Jan were fantastic and made this a very memorable experience. We were very lucky to see the northern lights as it was a clear night; the boat travelled just north of the Tromso island where we could see them. The boat does not go hunting for them, so it is luck if you can see them on the night - if you want a guarantee to see them booking an alternative tour may be better. The crew was very friendly and helpful - there was a small presentation given on Norway and the Arctic Circle which was really interesting. They were also very happy to take pictures of everyone which was great. The food was really nice, albeit portions could have been a bit bigger. I actually booked the Electric Northern Lights Cruise, but they contacted me the day before to ask if we wanted to join this cruise with no extra cost! They then sent me the new ticket straight away and were very organised. Highly recommend for an evening cruise in Tromso!
Dinner cruise wasn’t bad, staff were informative and we saw the aurora through the time on board from the big viewing deck. A definite plus but there’s no guarantee of that. Staff were friendly and offered to take photos of guests with the lights above. The food was tasty but the portions were very meagre. Dietary requirements were catered for thankfully. Bottle of French wine was £60 (one of 2 choices). We sat downstairs on lower deck and it was warmer. Guests upstairs would be cold due to the door to the viewing deck being opened so many times. It was enjoyable but I wouldn’t highly rate it. The music being played was soothing though.
Honestly, I did not like this cruise and felt it was a waste of money. We paid close to $400 ISD. only to go about a mile to a mile and a half into the bay. We had to purchase wine separately, which I understand, but the food was not up to the par. The fish dish was very basic with mediocre plating. We were all hoping and expecting to see the Northern Lights, but the experience was nothing like what was advertised. I would not recommend this cruise—please don’t waste your money. That said, the crew was very polite and genuinely nice.
A great experience. The best guides (who even made the safety briefing fun to listen which meant we all paid attention). The 3 course meal was just right, beautifully presented. There was a welcome drink and a bar serving hot and cold drinks. The guides were very friendly and informative and despite the forecast being poor for seeing the lights they spotted something threads and hot is all outside so when there was a break in the clouds the aurora appeared. The electric boat is so nice and quiet which adds to the whole experience.
Very friendly, well informed and helpful crew. We were fortunate to catch the Northern Lights, twice, over the 3 hour cruise - but only through the camera of our phones, and not the naked eye. The first 3 courses of the dinner were average, the 3rd (panna cotta dessert), excellent! Definitely a worthwhile experience!
Extremely disappointing cruise. We booked this cruise for NYE. At the wharf there was mass confusion as the boat wasn't at the stated location however another boat was further along the wharf but wasn't our boat. Told to go back and the boat would come. Standing around in -9 wasn't enjoyable. Boat eventually arrived, bordered with a welcome drink which was a nice touch. Be aware this tour seems to be totally about the Aurora sighting. There was no atmosphere onboard just lectures on the northern lights. Would have been great to have some music. Upstairs inside deck was cold. Dinner portions small and cold. Heading back to dock the toilets were closed due to an issue. We paid in AUD which wasn't cheap can't say it was value or worth the price.
Sadly we did not see the Northern Lights due to cloud cover, but I went in expecting to not see the lights so it ended up being a lovely dinner out on the water with the town lights in the distance. As a solo traveler I had a table to myself and I loved that they didn't try to pair me up with other solo travellers! The cruise is not an Aurora hunt, so please do not expect the boat to keep moving to find the lights. They do cruise to a location away from the island where they typically see lights but you do just sit there until it's time to go back. The crew are very nice and regaled us with funny and interesting stories about the area. The bar is stocked with some very nice wines and you may get lucky with a generous pour.
Extremely disappointing and not as advertised. The boat left 30 minutes late - there was no apology or acknowledgment of this. Despite this being a northern lights cruise, there was actually minimal mention of them and there was no crew looking out for them. We then arrived back 35 minutes early - also no acknowledgment or apology. When I asked a crew member why the tour was cut so short, they said it was because they had another tour. They also explained that the reason the boat left late was because the previous tour left late. The tour was absolutely not as described, it was extremely rushed, and a complete waste of money! You can’t advertise a 3-4 hour tour and only run it for less than 2.5 hours. The only positive was that the food was nice.
Don’t go hungry and if you don’t like fish order the vegetarian. The boat was lovely as was the view. They had someone talking (giving an aura lesson) most of the time. It would have been nice just to enjoy the scenery and the company that I went with. Upstairs inside deck was freezing!!
Can’t see any aurora due to bad weather and food portion is too small for an adult. Everything else was nice
Great evening with a family, nice boat trip and fantastic food, albeit the portions were a little on the small side. The starter of cured herring was delicious, as was the main of arctic cod, but both courses could have been bigger. The starter was more like an appetiser and the main could have been a large starter. So from that perspective it was a bit overpriced. However, the atmosphere was great, Albert, Maria and Tobias were great hosts and delivered information and titbits of knowledge in a warm and humorous way, as well as serving us. They are the reason I'm still giving this experience four stars. There were even a couple of chances to see the Northern lights, but since we were lucky enough to watch an absolutely breathtaking display of those up on Mount Storsteinen two nights prior, the excitement for it from us was somewhat limited.
Wonderful experience! Did the silent whale tour with Francesca, Olek and Jelmer on the 24th, and it was a great experience, was so educational which was unexpected and the staff gave lots of helpful tips to deal with sea sickness which meant I enjoyed the trip much more! Olek was also clearly passionate and very knowledgeable on the topic of whales which was amazing to listen too! Plus bumped into Jelmer on the bus in Tromso and he was just a lovely and chatty there too! Wonderful staff Then today went on aurora dinner cruice and my goodness it was delicious!! Albert, Maria and Tobias were wonderful staff, Tobias was especially wonderful, funny and chatty and great service. Thank you very much to all of the staff! Great experience and a Christmas dinner I won't forget 🎄 Highly recommend both experiences!
What an epic experience!! Let’s start with the crew Elli, Alberto and Fani were absolutely fantastic, full of knowledge and really helpful! The food, beautifully presented and very tasty, all the food was fish, I think maybe different choices for children under 16 should be available - but this is a minor critique!! The boat was clean, and the ride was smooth! We got super lucky during a week of heavy rain that we managed to see the lights, and they were epic!! We saw them dance throughout the whole cruise! A truly memorable and magical experience
Top quality hosts, highly enjoyable trip, with good food, history and even the northern lights! Really enjoyed it. Thanks to Sophie, Sara and the bald chap with the beard; can’t remember his name. Can recommend!
We were on the top deck of the Brim which had been segregated to couples and downstairs were other groups. My sister and I ended up at the front of the boat with nothing to look at but the reflection of the ceiling. Food was ok but nothing to get excited about. Atmosphere non existent and staff seemed as bored as most of the top deck passengers were. Some background music might have helped in between the talks given by the staff. A total waste of time and money. We couldn’t wait to get off.
Very well organized and a pleasant adventure into the arctic bay. Food was perfectly prepared and enjoyable.
The boat and staff were great, the meal was very disappointing- tiny starter (struggled to find the herring), main dish arctic cod was ok but cold, and could have done with more veggies and a carb like potatoes or rice, bread was dry and stale. Dessert, pancetta, was nice. Most importantly, and probably should have led with this, we were lucky enough to seethe Aurora Borealis, so were pretty at the end of the night.
Lovely crew, terrible three course meal. Spartan starter, soupy main with stale sourdough and with the cloud cover there was no possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. They really need to sort out the three course dinner because that could improve the trip significantly.
The cruise was a fabulous experience including a very nice 3 course dinner. The boat was of a high standard, but the most impressive thing about the night was the service from the crew who were exceptional at all stages. They went out of their way to help, particularly regarding the northern lights, and as a result, we got some wonderful photos. Thanks to Andrea and Francesca. I would highly recommend booking with Aurora cruises.
The ship is modern, comfortable, safe, and spacious. The menu is good, and they offer a selection of wines. It’s a romantic and very enjoyable experience—worth it for that alone. We were lucky to have clear skies and witness the Northern Lights show. Crew was kind and very helfull. We loved it!
We had a reservation for a dinner, aurora borealis cruise, with Brim Explorer, leaving @19:00. We left our hotel with what should been plenty of time to make the boat. Due to an unfortunate miscommunication on the directions we had we from our hotel, we lost 40min in transit. Upon realizing the mistake we frantically began trying to contact Brim to inform the of our situation. Contacting Brim turned out to be very difficult, they have no easily findable phone number, it's pages deep on their website. All of our attempts with their number by call or text or by Whats app or by email, were met with no response. We arrived @19:15 to find the boat gone and the office closed. Had we been able to contact Brim, we could have informed them we were close and they could have waited 15min to start a 4hr cruise. They chose to leave @ 19: 05. 5 min.So we lost our 1 opportunity to see the aurora in a fjord and the associated cost of course as we will never be in Norway again. We have been in contact with Brim regarding some recompence for the lost experience to no avail. A tour operator must have an easier way to be contacted in case of these types of circumstances. We have been on numerous tours in remote places,ie the Amazon jungle, and have always been able to contact the company through Whats app or by call or text from an EASILY findable number on their website. It should also be stated on the site that the departure time is sharp and there will be absolutely no waiting for any reason. I believe that had Brim responded to any of our multiple attempts at communication, they might have waited 15 min to start a 4hr trip. They did not. At the very least they should update website with an obvious contact number, get What's app capability and a statement regarding their inflexibility.
I booked this tour months in advance and was very excited about it. I booked based on the great reviews. The confirmation email had no contact phone number on it nor did it provide any detailed instructions on how to find the meeting location except a link to google maps. We left our hotel in Tromso for the tour at 17:40 pm Brim tour was to start at 19:00. Due to not knowing what bus stop to get off on we spent 90 minutes getting to the tour location. Upon realizing our mistake we contacted them via email (which is all we had been given) at exactly 19:00 to say we were on the way. They left at exactly 19:05 without us. We arrived at the location ten minutes later or 19:15. Stay away from this company they do not have a phone number accessable on whats ap, they do not provide any means of urgent contact on your confirmation are completely unsympathetic to any customers that have any kind of issues related to finding them and are unwilling to accept any feedback on what they could do to mitigate this happening in the future. The bottom line is we spent 90 minutes trying to get to our tour we were 15 minutes late and left at the dock and the companies posture after that has been completely unsympathetic to our ordeal and more importantly unwilling to look at any measures they could take to prevent this in the future. My opinion of Brim Explorer could not be any lower I would give zero stars of I could. Their attitude could not be any less customer service oriented.
We had a great Aurora Dinner Cruise at the end of March 2025. Staff was very attentive and we were lucky to see some of the strongest aurora's of our trip due to the captain cruising us to the right spots (and some luck). But we are most happy with the Brim Explorers booking service. We had some issues with our booking trough our third party travel agent, but direct contact with Brim Explorer made it much easier and ensured that we could enjoy the excursion we hoped for.
Magical and excellent experience! 100% recommended! Me and my boyfriend joined the dinner cruise on 22 Mar 2025. Everything were well-organised including the table arrangement. I would like to applaud the staff - Dominika, Pedro and Venke, they managed everything very well, from the safety demonstration, cuisine introduction to journey explanation. You can also ask anything related to your trip! We were so lucky to see the Northern Lights not long since we departed from the pier. It was a non-stop show. Dominika, which I highly appreciated, let us know that the Northern Lights are here once it was seen. I can tell that she was passionate. She was also very keen to help us with photo taking (she didn't just help us take pictures once, but also reminded us if we want to take more!) All crew members had a really good communication. Regarding the food, it was fantastic. We had a welcome alcoholic drink on arrival. They used local food such as arctic cod. They also catered vegan. The food ingredients combinations were also really nice! One thing to mention is that they also made sure that the food was freshly served. We all went out to the deck to see the Northern Lights and they would wait until we were back to serve the food. Throughout the journey they also made good use of the TV screen to tell us more about the cruise and Northern Lights. They are very well-trained, interactive, responsive and friendly! The ship, crew member, atmosphere, food and Northern Lights were just perfect! Thank you Dominika, Pedro, Venke, the captain and all other crew member!
I had an incredible evening! The trip started with some light so we were able to see the beautiful landscape as we left the port. Then Dominika started with the safety talk and it was hilarious! We started the dinner with a delicious appetizer, then the main course, with the staff fast and very kind, they took care of the extra allergies despite being limited on a boat. The guiding very interesting and nice and the service great with Fred and Ivan who were very fast and helpful! An unforgettable evening, thank you so much to everyone!!
This aurora dinner cruise was amazing. The staff were wonderful, and provided us with several short informative talks about the Northern Lights, the Arctic, and Tromso. We got to see a strong aurora display, which was really a peak experience. The welcome champagne was a nice touch and the dinner was quite good. Really a lovely evening.
The boat is quite nice, with very large windows to see the fjord. Dinner was surprisingly good considering the limited staff and kitchen. Not much wine selection. Music was excellent if you like 70s and 80s hits (classic rock). They put couples on second floor and larger groups downstairs by the bar where it is noisier. Sadly we never saw the aurora because of clouds. We would have appreciated more narration about the sights around us and the prospects of seeing the aurora. All we heard was a life vest demonstration and brief descriptions of the 3 food courses that were also written on the website. Although staff were pleasant enough, we did not find them particularly friendly or outgoing as some reviewers claim.
Boat was surprisingly nice and we were made very welcome from the beginning. Staff very helpful. Food was good. Great way to see the surrounding area. We were also lucky to see the northern lights - icing on the cake!
We loved this cruise. The food was great. There's a bar on board which was nice to order from and enjoy the trip. It was a windy night and we thought the boat would be rough and moving but it was actually really stable and comfortable.
The boat and atmosphere were lovely. The food was okay but we left still hungry. The description does say “tapas style,” so I should have better managed my expectations. We didn't see the northern lights but that’s nature and never guaranteed. If that’s your goal this probably isn’t the right activity as you don’t go very far out of the harbor. Overall, this was a nice evening but for the price I don’t think I’d do it again.
Vessel was lovely and modern, the food and service were great. Energetic commentary. We were lucky to see the lights.
Food was very good. Staff was very personable, entertaining, and informative. We got some great pictures of the northern lights with the lights from Tromso in the background.
We had a 3 course dinner on this cruise and the scenery and food was amazing. Our guide was really happy and informative. We even managed to see the Northern Lights through the heavy cloud cover.
Absolutely wonderful experience, the crew went out of their way to ensure that my dietary needs were catered to and that we were all happy and comfortable, you couldn’t ask for a more caring staff. The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere on board was fantastic, and after days of bad luck with the weather the crew alerted us to go outside as we had a glimpse of the northern lights! Such a beautiful and memorable experience! Thank you kindly to the Brim explorer team, 10/10 💚
Crew were good and attentive. The dinner served was traditional Norwegian food. We were not lucky enough to see the lights due to bad weather but did see them a few days after on a land tour. Just the luck of the draw
The staff were very helpful and dishes served were delicious. Views were breath taking and northern lights were icing on the cake. Kudo to Hugo and his colleagues. Well Done.
Warm welcome, good food, and rare aurora sighting, what more do we need? Thanks to the kindness of the crew led by Connor, we had a wonderful time onboard the Aurora dinner cruise. Despite poor weather and an unforeseen circumstance, we were able to make the most of the day! It is our first trip to Norway, we deeply appreciate the hospitality and generosity. 10/10!
