Tromsø: Small Group | Northern Lights Chase + All-inclusive

Terrific! Thought it would be a bust, very rainy in Tromso, Max and Jimmy headed to Finland where there was a report of clear skies, but learned overturned truck ahead blocking road. Switched to a new route also reported to be clear, drove through the snowstorm, saw wonderful lights and grilled reindeer sausages by a big river with snowy mountains nearby, no other groups there. Max highly knowledgeable and sent us great photos from the night.

Unforgettable experience!! Nelson, our guide and Babang, our driver, were both wonderful. They were so funny, friendly and positive, and made the whole evening really special. Together, they searched and found the perfect spot to see the Northern Lights. After just a short time, we saw the first one, followed by another one that was even stronger. And on the way back, we were lucky enough to see one more! The whole evening was absolutely fantastic. Nelson also told us so many interesting things about the Northern Lights and Norway in general. I also want to highlight how attentive Nelson was to everyone's needs. I had mentioned a few days before the tour that I am coeliac, and he made sure to arrange everything I needed. This really meant a lot to me! A huge thank you to both of you, Nelson and Babang! You made this experience unforgettable. We will never forget it! ❤️

Traveling from the US to Norway in search of the Northern Lights, two gals from NY venturing to the Artic Circle could not imagine a more delightful evening adventure! We had the privilege to be Fabian's very first tour. The passion he has for the lights, the knowledge he shared, and the amazing photos taken made for a true bucket list experience. Gabriel was a wonderful host and was meticulous in making sure we all were well fed and comfortable all while making a time lapse video of the dancing lights. He too was so very informative and excited about the night that it was all so very contagious! Let us not forget Sondre, our trusty driver with a great music playlist. He made sure we were all safe, even during our delayed trip back due a road block. We were a small group who celebrated under a perfect sky and shared warm memories for a lifetime. Conversation around the fire over cocoa was a great close to the evening. Take this tour with this amazing group of three! They are true gentlemen with an extraordinary ability to bring out the best in the skies as well as the participants. I promise, you will not be disappointed in anyway.

We had the most amazing trip ever! Max was so professional and dedicated to making our night one to remember. We chased the aurora and found some amazing view points and created memories to last a lifetime! Absolutely brilliant tour!

We were on a cruise all their excursions were booked up. I have used Viator all over the world so decided to check out their northern lights tour. I saw good reviews and Bert mentioned several times so we booked. On the day of our tour it was rainy The ship cancelled all their tours. We went to the meeting place and by luck we got Bert as our guide. We drove around Bert was on his computer and phone looking at the weather he had done his research. After driving for some time Bert found a spot that had cleared and the lights started it was wonderful it went on for over an hour or more we not only saw green but pink and moving ribbons Beyond our expectations. Highly recommend this tour and especially Bert and our driver Fin.

I lived in Alaska for three years, so I’ve been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights before. But the display we saw with Northern Horizon was one of the best I’ve ever seen! Our family planned three nights in Tromsø because we were prepared to book multiple tours until we saw the lights. As it turned out, Bert and Vin found them for us on our very first night out. It took some searching, and we tried about three or four locations and traveled roughly an hour outside Tromsø. But Bert and Vin worked HARD, and what we finally saw was absolutely worth it. There were some lovely touches along the way, too. Vin provided Arctic outerwear and boots, which kept us warm while we gathered around the fire they built. The reindeer sausages cooked over the open fire were delicious, and I have to give a special mention to the hot chocolate. I’m not typically a fan, but this was so rich it tasted like it had been made fresh from gourmet chocolate. I really enjoyed it! Our tour started around 6 p.m., and we didn’t get back to our hotel until after 1 a.m. We were exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. What a night! Bert also had a great camera setup and took long-exposure photographs. The next day, he emailed us a link to the shared photos, so we had those to enjoy alongside the pictures we took ourselves. I’ve posted a mix of both here. We’re so glad we booked with Northern Horizon. Thank you, Bert and Vin! You gave our family a night we’ll be talking about for a long time.

I did a northern lights tour with the guide Nelson and the driver AJ and it was amazing! They are very professional, in a great mood, funny, and incredibly dedicated! With their relaxed and positive attitude, they really did everything they could to make sure that, despite the worst possible conditions (first pouring rain, heavy clouds, then heavy snowfall), we eventually got to see and photograph some absolutely stunning northern lights! We even drove all the way to Finland for this experience. So, when it comes to their guests, no distance is too far for Northern Horizon! I’ve already booked more tours and would book with this provider again anytime in the future. The campfire was lovely, and the sausages were delicious too! Thank you so much for everything!!!!

So bummed we didn't see any northern lights. Drove into Finland but too much cloud cover. 15-seat bus was comfortable. Our guide Dan and driver...?V? We're great! Campfire was fun and thermal suits much appreciated. But 8 hours and $$$ later... Made us question their claim of 98% success.

Such an amazing experience. Despite the very bad weather forecast, our guides tried their best to chase the Northern Lights deep into the Finnish border. After constant rain for the past few days, the heavy snow suddenly came down during our journey which is a very pleasant surprise. Combined with having a bonfire under the stars and seeing the aurora was such a magical experience. My deepest thanks to Gabrielle and Sandré for their hard work and dedication. Their great passion for their job really connected with all of us.

We thought they'd have to cancel cos the weather was so bad - but Gabriel kept the faith, used his satellite intel and guided us deep into Finland. After the pouring rain turned to snow, Sondr safely navigated blinding conditions. And finally we escaped the weather and had a fantastic experience - the fire, roasting sausages, the moon, milky way … and the glittering dancing aurora. Heavenly.

The experience with Fabian and Viorel was a 20/10; they were incredibly attentive to the group and made the experience truly unforgettable. The campfire under the Northern Lights is a memory I will cherish forever. Furthermore, Fabian’s expertise in finding the perfect spot—along with the photos he took—was the icing on the cake for this one-of-a-kind tour. 100% recommended!

Max was an awesome guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the Northern Lights and explained the science behind them. He also knew how to find a great location, taking us to a beach with a beautiful mountainous backdrop and plenty of foreground features for photography. I really appreciated his photography tips, from finding puddles for reflections to getting the focus right and adjusting the shutter when the aurora turned pink. He made sure we had plenty of opportunities to photograph the lights and even drove us back to our hotels afterward. The aurora was spectacular that night, and Max helped make the experience even more memorable. Highly recommended!

It was a wonderful day experience. Erika was a great guide. We chased the Northern Lights and found a very good spot. This was made even better by the campfire and the snacks that we shared. Our driver Rogers was also very good. All in all worth every bit and would definitely recommend it.

Amazing night with Fabian! Forecast was grim, with rain and 100% cloud coverage. We prepared ourselves for a long cold disappoint night. But the guides found a magical empty spot away from the other tour companies and the sky suddenly lit up beyond compare!

Amazing night from start to finish, plan was clearly communicated with frequent updates on the direction of travel and where we were heading. I joined the tour for two consecutive days. Today’s guide was Erika. While Gabriel and Vio—who led the tour yesterday—were also fantastic, Erika was equally wonderful‼️ She knows exactly where the best spots are to view the aurora, and she manages to find locations away from other tour groups！ She is also a great conversationalist and does a wonderful job of keeping the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant throughout the experience‼️

Fabian and his friend were absolutely amazing sharing both the northern lights knowledge and local experience! We totally loved every single part of the trip!

Loved the Northern Lights chase with Nelson. He is very personable, engaging and knowledgeable about the specific science of the sky. His passion for the aurora chase was clear. Van was comfortable as well

With so many nothern lights tours to pick we were unsure which would be the best, but this is definitely the one to go with! The group was roughly around 15 people and we met around 6pm and got back to our accommodation aprox 1am. Our guide, Max, was incredible! And clearly has a passion and love for hunting the lights. The journey was comfortable and Max told us the various science behind the lights which was really interesting. The second site we visited is where we set up camp, we had an incredible show from the lights and max made sure we all got pictures with the lights and also took plenty for us to view later (if you dont want to take any on your phone you dont need to as they all get emailed to you after) He then made a camp fire for us to warm up by, and we ate hot dogs and drank hot chocolate, all under the lights, it really was wonderful. We didnt realise that we would be dropped off either to or close to our accommodation afterwards which was greatly appreciated as it was around 1am by the time we returned. Max was brilliant throughout and his enthusiasm for the nothern lights was really contagious. Also a big thank you to Vlad for driving us safely there and back. Overall an amazing, worthwhile trip. If you’re deciding which to go with, this is the one, the whole team are brilliant and clearly have a love for tromso and the nothern lights, thank you so much :) (As a side note, i would make sure you dress sufficiently as the temperature drops and it was a lot colder than anticipated. Vlad did have thermal suits he could provide)

Firstly, shout out to our tour guide, Nelson. Full of charisma, charm, knowledge and enthusiasm. Picked up at 6, and after visiting various different spots, cooking reindeer hotdogs on campfire with hot chocolate & cookies. The lights still didn’t appear. Then finally at 1AM in the morning when everyone had lost hope (apart from Nelson) & fell asleep. The lights appeared! What an incredible light show it was. Well worth the wait.

While the Northern Lights themselves were breathtaking, I was even more impressed by the team’s professionalism. I had one of the best nights of my life - not just because of the beautiful northern lights I‘ve seen but because of the best tour guides I could‘ve imagine to have. This trip Was very amazing. This is the first day i came to tromso and enjoyed the northern lights for longer time. Especially our guide Gabriel and driver vio was amazing they did a very very good job and stoped in the correct place Thank you very much both of you

You’re going to love it. Max is very knowledgeable and committed to helping you see the most amazing light show he can find. It will be very cold, dress accordingly. The whole trip is super organized and so fun to participate in. The drop off at the hotel on the way back was a surprise that made the whole experience even better. So great!

We had an amazing experience with a small group of 14–15 people, guided by the wonderful Gabriel, Daniel, and Sondra. Everything was well arranged, from warm suits and boots to hot chocolate, tea, and a cozy campfire with reindeer sausages and vegan options. What truly stood out was the incredible enthusiasm and determination of Gabriel and Daniel. It was an exceptionally difficult night, with cloudy skies followed by almost zero solar activity. Yet, they never gave up! They kept our spirits high for nearly six hours, and their persistence eventually paid off. Turning such an unlikely night into a successful Northern Lights chase takes real dedication! A huge thank you to the entire team for making it such a memorable experience. Highly recommended!

Gabriel, Daniel and Sondre did an amazing job hunting the aurora. Eventhough it was overcast and very low solar activity they managed to find just that little gap where clouds cleared and the aurora lit the sky in green waves of light. Once in a lifetime experience.

Max and Vio (our driver) were absolutely amazing!! we did back-to-back northern lights tours and we enjoyed our first one, but we can’t believe that our second one was even better. As soon as the van arrives, they were ready to take us on our adventure. Max is a geologist and he had so many interesting things to share and teach us about the Aurora. He was a wonderful guide and the most amazing photographer. Hands-down, these were professional photos with a great attitude and overall great experience. The van was well equipped with the Arctic suits and the meal and campfire was excellent. Highly recommend and would do this tour again. An extra part is that they even drop you off at your hotel if you’re within the city center, which was wonderful when you’re coming back after midnight.

What an amazing experience. The sky was cloudy when we set out, but Nelson knew exactly how to read the weather and drove us to the perfect spot where the clouds had cleared. We got to watch the northern lights dance across the sky, and we even caught a few shooting stars. He built a fire and we cooked reindeer sausages while we waited for the lights, and he shared so much interesting information along the way. Nelson is caring, full of energy, and clearly loves what he does. He made the whole night feel special.

This was a really great trip. Fabian the tour guide, has excellent knowledge of everything northern lights, and is an exceptional photographer. And Orjan the driver, had some brilliant stories and helped out with taking photos etc. Both were really friendly and helpful. There are a lot of tour providers out there so it’s difficult to know who to choose. I have no hesitation in recommending this one.

Fabian was literally a magician of the Northen lights... You can see his passion that has get him 10 years of chasing them... he knew all about then and how to chase them like a pro! Ørjan who was our local guide and driver was incredibly nice, responsible and helpful at all time! He gave us local tips and even went quite strongly about safety in the road which was, to be honest, very heartwarming 😂🙌 the two of them were lovely and did a 100/10 job... would recommend any time 👌🔥 thanks for the experience! We were so lucky to get to see the lights “dancing” and in such intense activity, but the experience wouldn’t be the same without Fabian, Gabriel and Sondri. They cared about us in every sense: explained everything so we could have clear understanding of how this is a nature dependent phenomenon, stopped at a gas station so we could go to the bathroom prior to the tour and created the most incredible experience ever. By the fire, they have such a great way to connect people and soon enough we were singing happy birthday, singing and laughing. Also, they have such an amazing knowledge about northern lights and the stars, and shared this knowledge with us and answered all of our questions. They are definitely the heart of this experience. Fabian, I hope you had a great first guiding tour experience and remember us forever - ‘cause we sure are going to remember you. Would recommend a thousand times!

A brilliant team of tour guides: Fabien, Gabriel and Sandre. We were in the middle of nowhere, watching the Northern Lights before we lit a campfire. The knowledge they shared with us really enriched the whole experience.

Fabian’s first tour leading and was amazing! So knowledge about the stars and had so much experience chasing lights! Gabriel was great as well, knew so much about the right conditions and was a great help when it got cold. We were given lots of tea and hot chocolate, reindeer sausage (which was really good) and cookies!! we were able to see the lights early in the tour until some clouds came in but it was still fun to sit around the campfire!! 10000/10 would book again! Also, as a study abroad student on a budget, this tour was definitely something to splurge more on for me!
