Tromsø: Arctic Fjord Trip To Sommarøy With Scenic Picnic

Fantastic experience with a small group, a kind and knowledgeable guide, and plenty of photo opportunities! Despite it being cold and rainy, it was a great experience!

We wanted to venture out of Tromso, and we didn’t have a car. This excursion more than met our expectations. Even though it was a cloudy day, the road to Sommeroy was gorgeous! Sommeroy itself had lovely white sand beaches in an archipelago of islands. Highly recommend!

One of my fondest memories from Tromsø is our short trip to Sommarøy, made even more special by Ørjan. We were lucky to have a local guide with a deep appreciation for his culture, sharing the Arctic's most breathtaking vistas with us.

Time for to explore by myself is too short But also a good journey ,guide told us all funny stories and safe driving

Orjan our guide is a local resident of Tromso ; he was so knowledgeable and passionate about providing the best experience of the day trip. He shared stories of culture, his personal experiences which made it insightful. Norway is my 43rd country , I have availed day trips from Viator before. This curated day trip was one of the best .

We had Ørjan for our guide and he was very informative, kind, and funny above all else. The views of the fjords next to the snowcapped mountains looked like a postcard. The reindeer stew was delicious and the hot chocolates warmed us up for the drive back. Charlotte and Josh from Straya

Terrible experience with this company as travel as a solo. They did not let me go in on the tour at starting hour saying my name is not on the list despite I prove by booking confirmation for the tour and show my ticket with their own ID as well. They said that it might happen, sometimes, problems with communications, many booking at same time, some might not enter in the system, bla, bla, bla, bla, I could understand this but… the guide, when explaining me this rubbish, their mouth by accidentally told the true, saying like oh you come alone? Oh normally the company only accepts groups of minimum 2…. Oh okay … so got it from you not. this company does not like solo travels, what they’re solution for the ones with confirmation booking? put you in another tour totally different for this one. It’s like, take it or leave it but if you leave it, no refund at all. Miserable. So if you are a solo travel avoid booking tours with this company because you will get “surprised” like I do. Gosh :(

The tour operator is extremely unreliable. We waited for over an hour to be met at the meeting point but they did not show up. They even did not pick up phone calls to the number provided. Do not reccomend this tour, we are now left with an entire day without a planned activity.

Our guide, Mathieu, was great. There were so not the 2 of us but he didn’t cancel the tour and he went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful trip.

I had an amazing experience on the nature & sightseeing photo tour outside Tromsø. Our guide Barbora was simply outstanding. She is incredibly professional, extremely knowledgeable, and brings such positive, friendly energy to the whole experience. What really stood out is her ability to share information in such an engaging way.. you genuinely want to listen to every single thing she says, you never zone out for a second (which can be the case with many other tour guides I have been with). That’s a real talent as a guide! On top of that, she took absolutely amazing photos for us throughout the trip, which made the experience even more special. A quick shoutout as well to Martin, our driver, who did a great job navigating the winter roads smoothly and safely. The scenery outside Tromsø was breathtaking and the whole day felt perfectly organized, relaxed, and truly memorable. I would 100% recommend Northern Horizon with Barbora to anyone visiting Tromsø who wants to experience the Arctic nature and come back with fantastic photos and great memories :) Emmanuella

Great tour, bring both phone and real camera is you have it. We saw both a reindeer and seals. The weather was very windy and temperamental but our guide, Simon, did amazingly with finding the best spots

Simon, our guide, was fantastic, and took us on a wonderful tour of the area, stopping at all the best places for photogtraphs, including an impromptu stop when we spotted a reindeer. Despite difficult driving conditions we always felt safe and were very impressed with his knowledge of Norwegian and Sami culture.

Had a wonderful tour with a great driver and guide. We got some beautiful photos and were able to take them ourselves. Highly recommended if you're a photography enthusiast.

Great experience. Both Bart and Barboro were fantastic. Friendly, professional, and it was great to be supplied with expert photos of our trip. Saw many beautiful sites in the area as well as the power of nature. Friendly vibe and laughter as we journeyed along in the mini bus. Bart was a competent driver and we felt safe and looked after, even on the icy, snowy roads. Would highly recommend.

Burt and the driver made a fantastic team. Very welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and incredibly helping. Burt went out of his way to make sure everyone got the best from each location we visited. From the little seaside village to the expanse of the large Fjord where we had our fire and snacks. i will mention this at this point as i wish to finish on a positive, the wildlife was somewhat dissapointing, and whilst i feel we were not seeking wildlife i could be mistaken. Back to the positive, the places our super confident very skilful driver took us to were amazing, our driver (iwish i could remember his name (sorry) and made us feel very safe on some pretty treacherous road, great skills. Burt's itinery was awesome finishing on a beautiful beach at Grotfjordvegan where Burt made (and cleared / cleaned entirely afterwards) our little camp fire and delighted in his stories with super coffee, cinnamon tea and delightful local iced buns. i would recommend this trip to anyone and the places we vistied magnicent and Burt is such a wonderful guy and guide, thank you.

Grom the erst moment everything was perfect. Bara our guide and Dominik the driver made the experience wonderful. Weather was not always great but they found perfect spots, took the best pictures and served a hot drink amd snack at a beach! It was an impressive day in the fjords around tromsö with great nature and also great people and fun.

claire is very kind and knowledgeable tour guide. She kept everyone was okay and shared loads of knowledge about reindeer and wildlife to us! add on, hot choco provided never made me disappointed! highly recommended to join this trip :-)

The experienced guide decides what locations and activities would suit the tour for the day, but will take requests into consideration. Claire is an avid outdoors person and intimately familiar with the area. Dominik who drove us was also very helpful when we set up for a picnic and went on our short explorations. A wonderful experience, with photos to preserve memories. Highly recommended.

Superb way to explore the fjords near Tromso Michael was a great guide and photographer He found us the best spots for an enjoyable day on Kvaløya!

The excursion itself was nice, but the pick- up process and communications with the tour company left a lot to be desired.

This was such a lovely day, we were very lucky to have beautiful weather and saw reindeer and an otter. Our guide Kamil was wonderful, he was knowledgeable and just a lovely guy. This was the best way to end our trip just soaking up all the beauty of the fjords - would 100% recommend

This was one of the best things I did on this magical winter wonderland holiday. The guide Adrian super knowledgeable and very charming with his delightful French accent. Johanna the driver was also lovely and helpful and spotted the reindeer very quickly. She also spotted the polar stratospheric rainbow clouds. The scenery was starkly beautiful and our guide found the best locations. On the way back he told us some Sami history and played the most beautiful Sami music. I learnt so much and was so touched by the beauty of the landscape and moved by the story of the Sami struggle. Inspiring.

This tour was absolutely stunning I must say. Our guides showed us beautiful fjords, snowy mountains and Arctic tundra and gave useful tips to take awesome shots. It was even better to have warm drinks and thermal suits worn as part of protection against the extreme cold. To even add, we saw wildlife such as reindeer during our tour. We never got to see the Northern Lights, but the view was breathtaking. Would highly suggest this for those into nature and taking photo’s in Tromso.

Amazing guide and views, had time to do everything I wanted and got lucky with the wildlife. Also we got served tea and hot chocolate.

The views were amazing. 4 hours fly quickly (and hey, there´s only 4 hours of light basically during the Polar Nights period). We got lucky with the weather, and our guide Michael was a pro photographer. He took great pics of the scenery and of us..

We took the nature tour with Micheal on a beautiful snowy day. Micheal was very knowledgeable and very friendly and took us to some excellent sights. It was wonderful to be out in nature and Micheal clearly has a passion for the great outdoors which we do too. I highly recommend this tour and Micheal as a guide.

The scenery goes without saying - it’s beautiful. But it was Michael that made this a 5 star experience. He was an outstanding guide - relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable and he went out of his way to avoid crowds and still find the best places for incredible photos.

By far the best experience I had in Tromsø, taking this tour felt like reconnecting with my inner child. I explored and allowed myself to be amazed by the beautiful Arctic landscapes. Well worth doing - best way to see the landscape is by being driven around by a guide. Our guide Kamil was a top young man with lots of local facts on hand. He was also very flexible - if we saw something interesting not on his itinerary he stopped. Also took photos of group members in the scenery - if you wanted.

Tour guide named Kamil (something like this) put up his full effort to take us to several beautiful viewpoint in Kvaloya island. We were generally lucky to have good weather for almost all of the spots. His driving was steady and safe despite the snowy road condition. There was a also nice touch of tea/coffee session at one of the rest point

We had a wonderful time on the arctic nature photography tour! Our guide Kamil was very knowledgable, and despite not having the best weather, managed to find us some beautiful spots and we got lots of amazing photos. Thoroughly recommend!
