I can’t comment on the trip itself as it was cancelled the day before due to bad weather; however, they were extremely helpful in suggesting bigger boats with other companies that would likely still be running and went so far as to show us where orcas were seen the day before and the food available on the boat trip we then booked for. Arranged a refund without hesitation and the new booking we made was exactly as he told us with loads of orcas seen.

Take sickness medication with you!! We had 3 hours of horrible choppy waters and people were throwing up left right and centre. We went on 25 January and unfortunately only saw the tops of 4 sperms whales, so I think the blue and orcas are migrating to warmer seas earlier. Tea, coffee granules and biscuits on board. Lunch is tomato soup which leaves a lot to be desired. Staff were nice.
This company canceled my tour hours before happening. I booked this tour months ago and they canceled my tour because I was just one person and they wanted to take a bigger group. Don’t trust this company you’ll never know when they will cancel it just because of financial reasons . I strongly recommend not to use it.
This is one of the most magical experiences I have ever had! We lucked out with perfect weather for winter in Norway. Clear skies for the limited daylight we had and it was gorgeous. The boat ride out to the bay was surrounded by snowcapped mountains and the crew provided great information about the journey and the whales. Once to the spot, it was nonstop wildlife. A few people saw a mink whale! But everyone saw plenty of humpbacks and orcas. We spent plenty of time at the location and everyone was having an amazing time. On the ride back, they served delicious soup and we had snacks and beverages the entire time. On the journey back, we even got to see the northern lights, which was just a cherry on top of an already perfect day. My group LOVED this tour and I would do it again. If you are having doubts, throw them away and book this!!!
Incredible experience with an amazing tour company. We saw lots of Orcas and Humpback whales and even to Northern lights on the boat ride back. Amazing day with an amazing crew!
An absolutely incredible day with Polar Adventures. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, the journey to and from Skervjoy was comfortable despite the choppy waves and it was just a small group on the boat, and to top it off we saw 25-30 orca. We were lucky to split off from the other tour boats and followed one pod for over an hour. We also did the northern lights tour with this company which was also excellent - brilliant views of the northern lights even on a very cloudy and snowy evening.
Seeing the whales was incredible. We got to see orcas and humpback whales. The trip there was long but we got super lucky with a smooth ride. Once we got there the staff were super engaging in giving history on the whales, pointing out where to look. We drove around following the different groups of whales. On the way back they gave soup. Unfortunately it was not gluten free. Then we got to see the northern lights on the water as we came home and they were incredible. Highly recommend but be careful if the water is choppier as it is 6+ hours of travel to get to the whales.
Outstanding trip. Such a knowledgeable guide, friendly and approachable team. We cannot praise this family-run business enough. We were fortunate to see Fin and Humpback whales and lots of Orcas on the day we went, which made the trip extra special. Thank you to the whole team for an amazing day.
Great opportunity to see different types of whale.which lasted 9 hours. Free availability of soft drinks and biscuits, lunch of excellent hot soup and focaccia. Extremely friendly staff. The biologist guide was inexperienced with limited knowledge and did not educate us the way we expected. The boat was quite reasonable and performed very well but looked a bit tired and was quite packed with about 34 people
An amazing trip with the best of crews and spectacular sights. Such a warm, friendly personal atmosphere that only a small group can create. Really loved the guides/crew helping (Sophie, Ken, Chef Halinka and Captain Miquel) out, such a knowledge about both area and the animals we were about to see. A lot of laughter, big smiles and people from all over the world seeing Orcas, Finwales and eagles together is a memory for life. Really recomend this company if your in Tromsø.
We had a great experience with Polar Adventures. The staff were caring and knowledgeable. The scenery on the way was spectacular and we had a bonus viewing of reindeer but best of all was that we saw plenty of whales. We lost count of the number of orca, saw 3 humpbacks close up and a fin whale. We appreciated the veggie soup for lunch and the unlimited hot drinks and biscuits for the long trip out and back. No one was seasick either!
Great team of staff. Very funny and knowledgeable. We saw plenty of Orcas. Bitterly cold so wrap up warm. Baguette that was provided was delicious.
We were changed boats but were told in advance then had the best day. Great guide very informative and chatty. Saw orcas, humpbacks breaching and fin whales
Excellent tour, great tour guides with Excellent knowledge, ship we went on was warm and comfortable also . The scenery was superb and saw plenty of Fin whales and humpbacks
Trash company that plans tours and cancels without letting you know. Will never recommend or use them again. Even emailed multiple times in advance to ensure the tour was still happening only to be cancelled on and finding out it was cancelled because no boat showed up to the meetup after hours of waiting.
The day was truly magical!! we saw orcas, humpback whales , and even an eagle that came out to say hi. The weather was really good and we got cotton candy colored skies the whole way. Thanks again to Juan for explaining the importance these beautiful animals have! Lunch was also really good Would recommend!
We booked this tour 4 months ago and it was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation. Because of this we were not able to book with anyone else because everything was already booked. I understand things happen but they did not communicate or even offer another date or tour companies that we could do it with.
This tour was cancelled on us with no reason and no dates available to re-book. The tour operator offered no reason to why this was cancelled last minute on us. We had this tour booked for 4 months in advance and for them to cancel on us for no legitimate reason is extremely sad and frustrating. Now it is too late for us to have a chance to book with anyone else. ***I would use extreme caution when booking with this company.*** We did get a refund and they only said they cancelled for reasons outside their control. I would understand if the weather was bad or something else but to just cancel on us for no reason is just bad business.
We absolutely LOVED our experience with Polar Adventures’ whale watching tour and would highly recommend it. Our guides mentioned that the day we went (Dec. 17) was one of their best days of the season — we saw lots of orca, humpback whales, and the upper deck even spotted an eagle. My partner and I particularly loved watching the magnificent snow capped fjords we were sailing through. We had a fantastic time and would gladly go again even if we hadn’t seen any whales. Our guides were funny and friendly. Our original booking was changed slightly — we were put onto a larger boat (with more people) but we also were able to get to the feeding area quicker. Not a bad thing, but the time and location were changed and I didn’t receive an email/notification (checked junk folders, etc.), so if we hadn’t shown up early to the original meeting point, we would have been left behind. Just a reminder for others to not be late! ;)
The way to the watching spot was very long and we had only few minutes there. We we're a bit disappointed.
Do not book through this company! Booked for 4 adults on the Whale Safari months ago only to receive an email today saying my booking had been cancelled. No explanation, no reason given, just left disappointed. Less than 5 days before the trip with no alternative and all other tours operators now booked up. Very poor customer service. Save your disappointment and book with another company!!
We had booked this trip months ago as our six year olds dream was to travel to Tromso and potentially see the whales and orcas! 4 days before travelling and they have cancelled our trip for eight people. Now we are unable to book any other whale trips as they are all fully booked. We understand that there is a potential of not seeing the whales or the trip being cancelled due to bad weather however this is not the case. We were advised that they cancel third party bookings as they don’t make as much money compared to booking directly through themselves. Avoid this company at all costs as you might end up in the same situation as us and now left with no other alternative.
Booked with Polar Adventures. We arrived at 7.40 for our 8am departure to be told their boat was broken and that we were departing on MS Gabrielle at 9am. It would have been good if the company had communicated this beforehand. We were given baguettes as we boarded the vessel. Plenty of room on board the boat. Seats very comfortable. We had good conditions and made our journey to the whales feeding ground. Arrived at 11 ish. We were surrounded by orca approx 40. It was amazing. Not only orca but humpbacks too. Even the guides seems excited by the luck we had on this trip. We stayed for an hour before heading back to Tromso. Guides were friendly and knowledgeable about the whales. It was overall a fantastic experience.
Amazing day with beautiful scenery and wonderful and very knowledgeable guides. Saw Humpbacks, Orca and an eagle
Original vessel had engine trouble so we were offered a full refund, or an upgrade to a larger boat. Pleased we chose the latter, saw humpbacks and orcas! Scenery was incredible, guides helpful and knowledgeable.
Unfortunately this trip was cancelled due to bad weather conditions and system doesn’t have a cancelled option when reviewing. One star is therefore unfair, but best I can do. If we return to Tromso, hopefully we’ll be luckier!
Can't really review as the trip was cancelled due to bad weather. Information received the night before and refund in 3 days or so...delt with efficiently
Had a great experience with this company. Having been Whale watching before in Iceland and California and being lucky enough to see Humpbacks. We were desperate to see Orcas and this is the place to see them, Wow. Together than with the beautiful scenery and sightings of the Northern lights on the way back this was a fantastic experience. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Polar Adventures. Booking process easy, guides Holly and Christian were great, really friendly and laid back which we loved. The boat is fine too. Quite a few guests on board but we were fine with that didn't feel too cramped, tea, coffee. Water and buscuits included throughout the trip and tasty baguette after Whale watching on your way back. All in all your takes about 8 to 9 hours. So full day but a great experience. Only slight negative was a very limited choice of snacks in biscuits.
Didn't see too much, but they were really trying their best staff were very helpful and nice weather wasn't great for spotting apparently our boat was broken so was a change but that wasn't bad at all overall a nice day, just would have been nice to see some more wildlife
I got to meet orcas and whales, it was an amazing experience. The crews were friendly and kind. They also gave us delicious sandwiches for lunch.
I actually, did another activity with them that was just as incredible. The team is wonderful and transmits their passion for this environment and their knowledge. Thank you to them for allowing me to do this simply magnificent excursion. The soup was very good. Roxane
I booked the tour last month, booking was easy and the price was very reasonable compared to some others I had seen. We took the tour yesterday and saw not only some amazing scenery but also a pod of orca and some humpbacks. Holly and Christian were so helpful and told us so many interesting facts about the whales. My partner was also given the opportunity to sit up front with the captain and even helped spot the whales. He said that this was a fantastic experience and was made very welcome by the captain. The water was a bit choppy on the journey due to the weather which couldn’t be helped but seeing the whales made it all worth it. Overall an amazing experience!
arrived 10 mins earlier for trip than app suggested, no one at the meet point, no one tried to contact us, we tried phoning the office, no answer, no response still 5 days later. Viator no help either, the website shows different instructions to what the app does, website says one time, app shows another, you are told to use the app for tickets/booking info, but then are expected to follow the instructions on the website. Still awaiting results from investigation but initial conversation with viator seems that the trip left earlier than planned meaning we missed the trip and had to rebook the following day with another company.
This was a dream come true for my daughter who loves Orces so it was an amazing experience for her and such a wonderful why to see these beautiful animals in their own environment. The crew were amazing with lots of knowledge and facts about the Whales we were about to see, I can honestly say that the skipper has fabulous skills and we were able to see these wonderful animals up close. We saw Humpback Whales and Orces. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves whales, it was a choppy boat ride on this occasion because of the weather conditions which was made clear by the crew before we left, but if you are prepared and take your sickness tablets you will have an amazing experience well worth the effort.
Do not recommend the whaling tour!! 1. we had to be there at 07:30 (meaning everyone had breakfast before that time), we got one very unhealthy and disgusting sandwich at 14:00: everyone was starving and very uncomfortable because of this. 2. we had to share one bathroom with 60 guests, the bathroom was very disgusting and on the way back they even closed this one bathroom. 3. it was very cold inside the boat. the thermal suits we got for outside were supposed to be holding us warm and water-proof because water was splashing over the boat constantly, however they weren't waterproof at all, which meant we were all freezing. 4. the guides only gave half of the group the information talk about the whales and forgot to tell the other half. 5. when we finally arrived seeing the whales we had to bend through our knees all the way because otherwise the captain could not see where to go, which was very uncomfortable. 6. on the way back almost everyone was throwing up, and they did not have any pills against seasickness. Of course, they do not have to do this, but it would have been very nice for everyone who was breathing into bags and throwing up.
Unfortunately we had to turn back, because of the weather, before we saw the whales, but we still had fun with our lovely guides, got a nice sandwich, hot drinks, enjoyed the view, and got a full refund.I hope next time I will be lucky enough to see the whales too.
Would have given 4.5 if possible as we really enjoyed it. The boat is an older vessel, which is more authentic but means no concession to comfort. The cabin was hot and cramped for the two hours out to the whale spotting areas. The guides gave a quick itinerary and explanation of the plan but we were in a far corner and couldn't hear much. Deck space is limited but fun to try and get around. The guides and crew tried various things to find whales for us. And then we found a pid of Orca whales and it's amazing. The captain was careful not to disturb the animals but to keep them in view. Just Incredible. Thr food served (salmon baguette) was nice and the guides friendly. Great day out but don't expect comfort to be considered.
It was a wonderful experience to explore the scenic route on the boat & to be able to see so many Whales. The guides on the boat are wonderful & make the experience memorable.
So great! Awesome value for the money: Guides are so knowledgeable (beyond the standard ‘orcas are actually dolphins’) and went above and beyond playing photographer so guests could get photos together with beautiful sunrise on the alps, and making sure all guests could see wildlife (asking tall people to let short people stand in front of them, etc). Snacks, drinks, and sandwiches included (go for the salmon, I stole my husband’s and forced him to finish my ham & cheese one). Boat is very cozy, but I cannot stress this enough: TAKE DRAMAMINE! Or some other sea sickness preventative measures! We were surrounded by people puking. It was a rough day at sea, but guys, the boat is small - I’m sure it would be rocking even on a milder day. Sighting: several orca close to boat, and eating fish side by side with 3 humpbacks! 1 sea eagle. Phone-video screenshots of orcas and humpbacks are attached :)
It was magical! Thanks to the team we had on Sunday : Raoul, Christina and of course Captain « Jack Sparrow » ! Once in a lifetime experience and we were super lucky ! Saw like fifty orcas and at least three humpback whales! Ended up a bit wet but that’s the cost of being on the boat’s bow, living the experience at its fullest ! ✨ Went twice with Polar Adventures, and will surely book with them a third time! See you soon in Tromsø ! Laura and family.
Lovely trip up with great scenery (3 hour boat ride) saw 1 orca and a fin whale we weren’t lucky enough to see more but still nice to see what we did. The staff were very informative and friendly. The trip back we weren’t allowed to sit on the outside deck and everyone had to go inside. Half the boat were being sick and it was gross to be locked in without fresh air. Do not take this trip if you get sea sick, not only will you not enjoy yourself but you’ll also make the experience not so great for the others on board. The waves can get big and choppy and it’s a long journey, be prepared!
Knowledgeable crew who were excited for us to see the whales as much as we were. Worked very hard to get us the best view in very difficult circumstances with the weather
Fabulous trip, great staff supporting it. We saw lots of orcas. The weather wasn’t great… but that can’t be helped. Loved it x
Sadly no whales. Just a long trip on a fairly crowded boat. Beautiful scenery however and we saw eagles, and so it was worth it for that. Nice drink and biscuit selection which was well stocked up. Nice warning portion of soup also served. I do think the cost of this trip is significant and could possibly be reduced but I do not know what the outgoings of the company are.
Booked 2 tours with 2 different companies. This was the smaller of the two. The boat was overly crammed with people, difficult to move. We drove 2.5 hours out on the water and had a breakdown, mechinical issue, which took 5+ hours to get back, so no whales. These things can't be helped. Except the guide said dont worry, this marvellous company will do something great for us - a refund. If we wanted to rebook it was full price. So we spent 8 hours on a boat (lost a day of our trip), in poor weather (not their fault), to get just a refund. And thanks to currency exchange and bank charges, the refund was a 10% less than the cost by the time i got the cash back. Went with another company the next day, and all in all a better experience. larger boat - could move around, go in or outside throughout.
The worst trip ever. The ship broke (I heard the same thing happened recently again) and we had to take bus to return to Tromso. It took us 12 hours to make our way back.
Not totally what expected - but turned out to be a great trip! The crew did an amazing job and specially Pedro made our trip! We arrived after 3 hours to the whale watching area and after 2 min they told us we had to return to Tromsø due to bad weather. Out of the organizers hands, but a shame. A bit of rough weather all the way back - but as I said, the crew made our cancelled trip memorable. Hope to try another time! 👌
Fantastic trip, easy pick up from Tromso. Guide was really interactive and informative. He really knew his stuff and did quizzing and teaching on the way out, really great. Boat can get a little rough on the way out but only lasts about 20-30mins so manageable. Would definitely recommend. Saw lots of Orca and a Sperm whale even in as weather. Great trip!
I traveled to Tromso for 3 days. This tour was going to be one of our experiences. We went out to see and 3h into the trip we were told we couldn’t make it to the whales point and would have to go back. They way back took 3h+ we never saw the whales and the trip still took 8h of our day. We wasted half a day that couldn’t get back. I believe this company should make sure their vessels are up to par before each trip to avoid this kind of issues. We did get a full refund but I will never get the time back
It’s very lucky to see the whales! Except for the sickness on the ship. Everything is great! The tomato soup is tasty!
