Sledding part had to be cancelled do to weather, but tour was great. Feeding reindeer was a lot of fun.

We picked this experience for three reasons: 1) see the reindeer, 2) learn a bit about the Sami culture, and 3) a chance to see the northern lights away from the city lights. We achieved all three!!!! The reindeer were really cool, and feeding was very relaxed. These reindeer for fairly tame. We learned of the culture in the nice heated "tepee" and had our reindeer stew meal in the same. Our sled ride, although only 15 minutes, was perfect and we saw something not often seen..a shooting star blast through the aurora in a streak of fire ...once in a lifetime, and certainly you cannot plan for that, but if you are in the right place at the right time......Yes it is bit expensive ($215 pp), but it was very nice.
Although, due to lack of snow, we didn't enjoy a reindeer sleigh ride, we enjoyed everything else. The feeding, the reindeer stew, Sami stories and of course we had a glimpse of the Northern Lights. A discount was offered. A great night.
Everything from beginning to end was fantastic. The reindeer feeding time together was so much fun! The Sami talk was great and very cool to learn about their culture.
Excellent friendly guides. Very safe coach transfer. Beautiful experience in nature. Loved feeding the reindeer.
Unfortunately the Reindeer sledding was cancelled day before, a partial refund will be sent from my understanding but it didnt feel like it was very well organised as half the group still went on a reindeer trip. The rest of us were left more or less hanging around. We understand that welfare of the reindeer comes first but they could have gave everyone a short trip rather than just half the group having a long ride.
The reindeer sleigh ride was a lot of fun. It was a still and quiet night and an enjoyable sleigh ride. Feeding the reindeer was also fun, but a majority of them wouldn’t eat from being full from prior tour groups feeding them.
The Sami talk was brilliant. John was very interesting and knowledgeable I wish he was involved more. The rest of the experience was slow and felt a bit unorganised. Which left us feeling a bit bored. Also the event felt overbooked and crowded, it was uncomfortable I think if they sold 10 less tickets it would have been so much more enjoyable. Communal dining is fine but not if it feels as though you’re sat on strangers knees. It felt understaffed for the amount of staff. The reindeer seemed bored of being fed too and the sled ride was short/ didn’t venture far out. Overall a lot of money when the only enjoyable part was the Sami talk with John who can’t be praised enough, he would get 5 stars but unfortunately the rest was below average and would get 0 stars
Experience was incredible. Reindeer are friendly. It's a 45-50 min bus ride to Lapland. When you arrive, you are brought into a large room with tables. Chocolate chip and Oreo (they are vegan) cookies are available on the table with a thermos of hot water. You can choose from tea, instant coffee, or hot chocolate. They had both a reindeer stew and a vegetarian stew. A large bus brings you there. You share the bus with others going solely to feed the reindeer. Dress warmly. There are cute little huts with fires that are very warm. But if you get too cold, you can go inside the building to warm up. The sledding was super fun.
It was well organized. The Sami talk was very informative. The Reindeer sledding was really fun and it was very surreal for us because the Northern lights were out during our ride. The only issue was the toilets and that is not the fault of the tour company or the location. It is from disgusting people that pee all over the toilet and floor so a woman cannot possibly use them without cleaning up the area first.
It's an absolute must. We loved meeting the Sami and learning about their unique culture and history. I wish there was more time to learn more, however, it certainly gave us the motivation to do our own research following the trip. I travelled with 2 young children and they loved meeting the Reindeer and feeding the. As well as the sledding! Wonderful experience!
This was a wonderful experience. A little tricky getting to pickup point downtown from the cruise terminal, but with proper planning it works out well. Fortunately our cruise line ran shuttles downtown and the drop off is right where the tour picks you up. Our cruises shuttle service ended earlier than our return to pickup point so we had to make arrangements via UBer. It cost about $25 US and 10 minutes travel time. It is a 50 minute ride to the Sami village and they are very good in directing you to where you need to be. The tour consists of to parts. Feeding the reindeer and the ride on the reindeer sliegh. Both are very exciting to do. It was snowing during our entire trip so seeing the northern lights was not a option. The sligh ride was so much fun. The guide was very good and quite funny. He sang a old Sami traditional song while we were out. It was very good. I would recommend recording this ride with your phone on night mode to catch his song. Feeding the reindeer was fun as well however since this was the second part of our visit the deer were almost full from the first groups feeding. So when you arrive you must decide which one is most important to you and go with first. The deer are very gentle and the Sami guide does a very good jo in preparing you for the visit with the deer. When we finished both events we inside and had a traditional Sami meal. They served a traditional Sami reindeer stew or a vegan vegetsble soup. We chose the vegan, we just couldn’t do reindeer. The people at our table did enjoy the reindeer stew. They also served bread, water, hot teas and coffee. We enjoyed the meal. Afterwards our guide spent about an hour talking about the Sami people and their traditions. Our all it was a 10/10 experience.
We had the best experience here. The reindeer sledding and feeding was amazing as was the food and drinks we had. The Sami host was so knowledgeable and interesting. Would advise anyone to try this trip. It was amazing.
It was nice and the reindeer soup was very good, loved the ride and got to see the aurora and feed the deers
This was a lovely trip out of Tromso, was really special feeding the reindeers. The male leading the sleigh was very passionate about promoting how the Sami people live and this is protecting nature. There's a chance to see the Northern lights because of less light pollution we did see weak Norther light display which disappeared fairly quickly. Was very interesting to hear more about Sami ways from a younger female perspective. Reindeer stew was nice too, felt welcomed
OMG. The best tour of all time. Got up close and personal with the reindeers and the reindeers sledding is a must do. The soup/stew was delicious with salt and pepper and the umami salt.
Reindeer sleigh ride and feeding experience was great Meal was VERY basic. The talk from Sami gentleman interesting. Feel the large numbers of people visiting at the same time should be smaller The tent we ate in struggled to stay warm, gas heater was malfunctioning. The toilets were absolutely putrid and for the rather high price we paid, could have learned from lots by copying Australian National Park toilets
Unfortunately due to weather conditions the sledding part was cancelled and refunded but the up close encounter with the reindeer, the meal and the talk about the Sami culture were excellent. I would definitely recommend.
We were doubtful about this as it is quite expensive, but so glad we did it. The pick up was on time, and everything was excellent when we arrived. The reindeer sledding was a experience, and those organising it really cared about the reindeer. The feeding was fun, and the info about Sami culture was very interesting. Veg and meat soup options both good. And we were lucky enough to see the northern lights from the reindeer sledding. The company also responds quickly and helpfully to emails. Would recommend.
Amazing trip! We got to spend time with the Sami people at their camp, went reindeer sledding and fed the reindeers too! Afterwards we finished off with some lovely reindeer stew and a talk about Sami culture.
Fabulous experience with the reindeers, unfortunately for us the snow was blizzard like so we couldn’t do the sledding experience but we fed the animals which was amazing, we had a warm Sami tent to sit in with hot drinks and biscuits on tap. We were offered delicious reindeer stew ( or a vegetarian option) and bread which you could have more if you wanted it, our guide was very experienced and really funny, he gave us a fascinating insight to the Sami culture and way of life, although we didn’t get the sledding ( we were partially refunded for that) it was still a magical evening. Highly recommended Oh a bonus we got an awesome northern lights display, even after the heavy snow fall 😊
The evening was like some of the reviews, a little chaotic at the start with conflicting instructions which delayed our departure. It was too crowded to really enjoy the experience, the instructions and discussion when on the sleigh ride were almost impossible to hear at the back, catching just enough to know instructions were being given. The food was at best ok and not like the advertised food. We would have preferred more of the Sami background with stories from the past and how life is now, the discussion was a little centred on the speaker. Overall the experience was too overpriced and commercialised with too large a group to get a quality experience for what was paid.
Bad weather when we went (ICY roads and meadow; one of the two large buses had trouble on the way home), and although the staff were polite, I felt they resented us for making them take the reindeer out in poor conditions. Quite frankly, the company should've canceled. The experience felt rushed, too (perhaps we got there late due to the ice), and the reindeer pulling our sled was slipping and jerking around on the terrain in a way that scared me for both him AND us. Dinner was lacklustre, the reindeer stew a bit flavorless and sparse, and the presentation on Sami culture, while interesting, was just a sketch--even a caricature--of the culture... I guess I should've expected as much; there isn't time to get into all the history and politics, and the audience is varied enough that sticking to wedding clothes and language probably feels like the safest option. I was disappointed, though.
I had so much fun! Feeding and riding the reindeer was awesome! Felt like Santa haha food was ok bread and cookies were delicious. Learning about the Sami culture was really cool too! My only recommendation is don’t book this as your northern lights excursion. The northern lights tour guides are clear sky chasers. As the reindeer excursion brings you to the reindeer farm exclusively it’s not guaranteed there will be clear skies there. So definitely book a separate tour for northern lights but I think this experience is totally worth it. The reindeer are adorable and the ride was a blast. Hope to return to the Sami’s one day as they were fantastic hosts!
Magical evening! The reindeer sled ride and feeding experience was just amazing. So magical in the snow and under the stars. We had our 11 month old with us who just loved the ride too! Then we heard a bit about Sami life and had a delicious warm meal. A must when visiting Tromso!
Great experience about an hour outside the city. Short ride in the sleds was great, especially with how cold it was. Feeding the reindeer was an adventure as they argued over the food. The stew and culture talk was great, although you may want a snack before you go out there. Didn’t see the northern lights, but I will never hold that against this kind of tour. It was overcast my entire trip
It was a great experience, very nice people. The reindeer sledding was very cool. And we saw the northern lights!
Very well organized. Kind staff that allows flexibility. The experience itself was amazing, would really recommend it. We saw northern lights too so it couldn't be better!
There is an hours bus transfer each way, don’t do it in the dark as you won’t see the reindeer properly or enjoy the sledge ride as it’s not lit up at all. Staff were lovely and set up was nice but an experience so not do in pitch black.
Way too many people on this tour for the size of the place. Crammed into the hut and not able to enjoy the feeding with so large of group.
All sorts of wrong since the beginning: they were 30 mins late at pickup. 190 euros each just to feed reindeers and have a really basic soup. The sledding part was almost non existent. Cherry on top: One of the guests was offered a snowmobile experience, while the rest of us all was denied it. Discriminating much?! Absolute disappoinment and please, don't thank me for my feedback and say you will take it into consideration. You write the same sentence to every bad review and you obviously only care about the money!
It was indeed an excitng life time experience to ride Reindeer sledging . However food provided in the camp was not that satisfactory. Atleast hotel drop off should have been included as we had to walk a distance of about one kilometre to our hotel at the chliily snowy night and that too at about midnight.
We really enjoyed learning about the Sami culture and getting to see and feed the reindeer. The sledding ride was beautiful and almost magical with the reindeer.
Wonderful way to spend an evening Wrap up warm The insight into the Sami culture is fascinating The sledging was particularly fun
Wonderful, except for the toilet. Not female friendly. It would be better if female do not need to climb us the toilet
Didn't get to feed reindeer problem with a rogue reindeer didn't get the proper experience with sledding either.
Tromso is a touristic place. This experience sledding reindeer with culture sami is a thing to do when you stay in tromso. But i think this tour it is for me maybe not for others too " touristic" and overpriced. There are 2 big buses...the place where you go is very nice far from tromso and you have maybe the opportunity to see nothern lights. Reindeer are very cute, it is a beautiful animal. But i didn t appreciate, the food, i though it was a joke, you help yourself, chocolate powder, plastic cup not the traditionnal sami wood cup, because we are maybe 60 people...i did a feeding reindeer experience in sweden but it was a little farm and we fed with lichen and not pellets...it is not bad , but for me too touristic and overpriced for the food
Great experience sledding, feeding and learning about the reindeer and Sami culture. Very christmas-sy!
We had a fantastic evening with raindeer sled, real sami food, feeding of the raindeer and a great and interesting speach by Jan Kristian, our guide about sami culture. Highly recommended for others and very family friendly. Recommended for norwegians too. Thank you for a great experience 😃
Unfortunately, this felt like a TOURIST TRAP. The experience began with two fully booked coaches (around 80 people) for a nearly 2-hour ride, only to have a brief 40-minute “reindeer experience.” The activity primarily involved feeding the reindeer, with little to no interaction or attention given to the guests—understandably chaotic with such a large crowd. The food and service were disappointing as well. Don’t expect to see the property, they don’t even invite you to see. On a positive note, learning about Sami culture and history was genuinely interesting and insightful. Overall, I would not recommend this activity. There are far better, more personal experiences to explore.
This tour offers an interesting idea, but it didn’t quite meet expectations for the price. The reindeer feeding was enjoyable but too short—just 20 minutes—after a long 2-hour drive each way. The vegetable soup was warm but quite basic for such a premium experience. With two buses of around 80 people, the experience felt a bit crowded and rushed. The northern lights are a major selling point, but they’re never guaranteed, so it’s important to manage expectations. The Sami cultural presentation was engaging, but more time with the reindeer and better organization would make this tour feel more special. It’s worth considering if you’re curious, but there may be better options for a more intimate experience.
It is good experience to see the SAMI way of life. Bath room is very primitive. I wish the story telling was little more informative.
The reindeer part of the tour was cancelled 4 hours before due to start. Was offered a refund tho, bit of a pain she. You only have limited time
A nice evening out, we were met on time at the Radisson Blu - we got a bit confused as the address on Tripadvisor says Sjogata 9 which means Googlemaps has you pacing between the cafe, Best Arctic and the Radisson and in the end we asked some people at Best Arctic who only knew where we meant when we said reindeers. Once we worked that out there were 2 buses waiting and you can get on either. Upon arrival to the buses we were told the weather was too windy and snowy for sledding so we were offered to cancel and get a full refund or go and you can still feed them and sit in the wood cabin for hot drink and either reindeer soup or vegetable soup (I can't eat Rudolph :-)) and talk with Sami person so we still did this and were given a partial refund which was received within 24 hours so they are very trustworthy. I've done a similar experience before and personally I think the feeding is the most fun part anyway! You can use as many buckets as you want and can feed out the bucket, by hand or on the floor. The reindeer are very enthusiastic and the talk was fun and interesting. There's also lots of fires around to warm up by.
Bus drove us not too far out of Tromsø to the Sami farm. After a quick intro from our Sami hosts, we were all given a bucket of food & allowed into the reindeer pen. The reindeer were pretty gentle actually (there were a few “interactions” between the reindeer themselves if both going for food… but nothing out of hand. Didn’t have kids with us, but definitely would feel ok bringing kids). Unlike most reviews here- we did see the northern lights! They were amazing! We also did specific northern lights tours while in Tromsø, but this was the best showing! Saw many colors with naked eye & they were overhead for a long time (compared to other nights we were in area)! Reindeer and northern lights? Yes! The ride part was canceled due to weather, but that did bother us… more time hanging with the reindeer. Then we had a good meal (I had the veggie soup), and there was bread and cookies too. Finally, after dinner there was a speech given by our Sami hosts about their way of life and culture. Very interesting & entertaining! Like with other tours we did in Tromsø area, they did reference how climate change was affecting their way of life though… which is sad (they didn’t dwell on it or make it a political thing… just mentioned).
The reindeer came so close to us and were very eager to eat the food we had for them. They weren't afraid of humans, but it's still very important to remember that they are wild animals and there were a few instances of the reindeer becoming a bit agitated with each other that were a bit alarming. We didn't get to enjoy the sledding as there was no snow and it was raining quite a bit. We were informed of this element of the trip being cancelled before hand, but the experience was well worth it despite that. Everyone was lovely as well, from the other tourists to the Sami people that were guiding us. I think our favourite part was for sure hearing about Sami culture as it was fascinating and so interesting to learn, and the trying of the Sami stew. It was lovely and we found it very filling. Would definitely recommend this trip to everyone as it was an experience well never forget.
We weren't able to go sledding as the snow was too wet and soft. However, feeding the reindeer was a brilliant experience, and the meal and learning about Sami culture afterwards was wonderful.
I understand all these excursions are weather permitting but from the onset the rep was rude, told me on arrival that they had tried ringing me to say there was no sledding, I had jo miss calls, fed the reindeer and no mention of northern lights.. the same were great but disappointing over all ... it was ment to be a life experience but it wasn't unfortunately
The sky was clear and cloudless. The App aurora does give positive signs to see polarlights. But the time at the sami camp was shortened by one hour. So we didn't get the chance to see polarlights by no reason. The trip should be named sledding and sami culture. No refound for organisation failure by the operator.......
This experience was all I hoped it would be. We went for a sleigh ride pulled by a reindeer! We got to feed a whole bunch of reindeers, who were very friendly! We learned all about Sami traditions. We even had a traditional Sami stew, which was not my favorite but had to try it. Definitely recommend this trip! How could I forget, we saw the Northern Lights too!!
