Great tour to meet Sami and the reindeer! Learned a lot! It was also nice that they gave the boot covers as it was pretty muddy at the camp due to lots of rain.

Such a wonderful experience! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Sámi guides and reindeer. We got to spend a couple of hours meeting and feeding the reindeer, who were more than happy to get up close and personal for their food. You can’t help but be very happy around them, it was such a calming atmosphere (despite the reindeer getting boisterous when the food came out!) Our group was small so we all had our own space which helped it feel more personal. Our Sámi guides were incredible and so informative about their lives as reindeer herders, no question was left unanswered. This is easily the best experience I have ever done - I cannot recommend this highly enough.
I had a fabulous time on this adventure. The reindeer were such cute, odd creatures and the Sami talk was informative and the stew was delicious. Two minor items that would make this even better: (1) it would have been great if a guide rode the bus in and provided even more information; and (2) I think there should be a minimum age of 8 on this one.
Fantastic experience, fun and informative. Wear clothes and shoes to resist rain, snow, mud, and reindeer antlers.
A great experience! Very very friendly and helpful start to finish, including the coach driver. Fabulous experience feeding the herd of 100 reindeer and our Sami guide was just lovely. Loved every minute - thank you!
Really fun excursion to feed reindeer in a beautiful location. Our Sami host, “Joseph” (his “government name”) was welcoming, funny, and shared some really interesting information about the Sami people. I do wish I had known that a tour group from Globus was also booked, and that they were to receive preferential treatment to getting on the bus. The rest of us received fairly disorganized and impatient communication. But once we got to the reindeer camp (a very scenic one hour drive away from the pick up point), the people there were great and welcomed us all. A head’s up: the bathroom facilities are out houses.
Fantastic day out. Value for money. Lots of time with the reindeer. Lunch was delicious. Fascinating to hear about the Sami culture. Even the drive there was great- stunning scenery. Guides very hospitable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this tour. 10 out of 10.
If you’re wanting to do something a little different & understand the culture of the Saami people - this is one way to do it! We got an hour to hang out with the reindeer followed by a traditional Saami lunch (Reindeer stew) - we were then provided with an understanding on the Saami culture, how important the reindeer are, the traditional dress & even heard about the stories told throughout the generations (mainly revolving around monsters) 🤣 it was rather amusing! Thank you for having me, an experience I will always remember! And one I can happily tell me kids now, that I’m best friends with Santa & the reindeer, so they now must behave 🤪
Great trip we thoroughly enjoyed it and can recommend
Excellent experience overall. The folks handling the reindeer feeding, lunch and brief history of the Samii people were top notch. An afternoon well spent. For those of us who are of Native American descent, their story is frightingly similar as to how the the US government treated their native people. Stay strong.
Whilst the reindeer were adorable and friendly there are far too many people and this spoilt the experience for me. The whole trip is 4/4.5 hours with only 20 mins spent with the reindeer. The rest is travelling time and a speaker learning you about Sami culture whilst this is educational the lunch and talk take up the bulk of the time. We did get to wander around for a short while before getting back on the coach. Smaller groups would be better. That said I still enjoyed meeting feeding the reindeers and the location is very scenic.
Tromsø: Reindeer Feeding and Sami Cultural Experience by Tromsø Lapland 4.5hour morning tour. Tour staff at the pick up location were really helpful getting us booked onto our tour and on the correct buses. The scenery on the route to the location was stunning. The location was not too far from Tromso, so we weren’t on the bus for hours. Upon arrival the temperature was -15 Celsius. Wrap up warm! We were told that they would provide further warm clothing if required. On arrival we were greeted by welcoming staff who explained what our tour would involve, that we would go and meet the reindeer, and how to feed them We were able to use a traditional Sami tent as our base, and leave our bags safely there. There were also biscuits and lots of hot beverage supplied that we could help ourselves to. The scenery at the reindeer camp was beautiful and we were blessed with good weather, clear skies. We were provided with buckets of reindeer food. They were adorable, and seemed happy and well cared for and excited for food. It was very cold and your hands get very cold. You could stay out with them as long as you wanted, and we were told what time to be back at the tent for lunch. Lunch provided was delicious traditional stew. If they offer second helpings, go for it! We then had a talk from our guide who is Sami, and she spoke about her culture and heritage after lunch. It was really interesting. Though this was a short trip for a few hours, it was worth it, and a lovely experience.
When I arrived at this tour's pickup spot and saw two huge coach busses full of other guests, I wasn't really sure what to expect from the outing, but it ended up standing out as a highlight of my trip to Scandinavia. Meeting the reindeer was a wonderful experience as they were so gentle, friendly, and curious. I was able to feed one from my hand, which was fun. Guests were given plenty of time to take photos and get to know the reindeer, then we headed inside for lunch and an informative presentation about Sami culture. I had the vegan soup/stew, which was both delicious and filling. Our Sami guide (I sadly do not recall his name) was funny and talked about some major points of his culture. I enjoyed the outing and felt it was a valuable part of my time in the Arctic.
We are animal lovers, so naturally we wanted to meet reindeer in their local environment. We have done a number of reindeer feeding activities throughout Scandinavia over the years. Each one has been very different - so if you have done reindeer feeding previously STILL consider this activity in Tromsø. Well worth the investment as the reindeer have their own personalities, and it was heart-warming and special to interact with individual reindeer. There were lots of reindeer, and you pick which ones you would like to meet and feed. There is the option of reindeer sledding when you book, however we opted just to feed the reindeer. We got to do 2 rounds of feeding the reindeer. We booked at the Tourist Shop, not the Tourist Information Centre for this tour. In addition to feeding the reindeer, we had an informative and entertaining presentation about the Sámi culture in Northern Norway. Our Sámi guide (had the longest name) was entertaining as well as demonstrated yerking (Sámi singing) and provided details about the Sámi Culture. We had the opportunity to try traditional bidos (reindeer meat and vegetables) or vegetarian soup. All produce, including the bread, is made locally and was extremely tasty and fresh. If you go in winter, we would recommend snow gloves for warmth, as when you feed the reindeer you can take your gloves off to hand feed. It’s worth hand feeding just for a reindeer kiss! For us travelling is also about the journey, not just the destination. The only recommendation we could make to Tromsø Lapland for this tour is to have some interaction with the Sámi guide from the start of the bus trip, not just at the location. It could be points of interest on the bus drive, learning some Norwegian or Sámi words, practicing how to pronounce the Sámi guide’s name or telling a Sámi story for example. Would recommend this activity for children and adults. Accessibility due to the snow and landscape would need to be considered.
The actual feeding of the reindeer was over very quickly. Very little background to the Sami culture was provided. The reindeer stew was bland and stodgy.
The tour got cancelled due to a power outage at the camp. We were informed one minute before the tour was supposed to start, there were no others booking possibilities offered. We feel like the main attraction here is the reindeers, not the food cooked at the camp. We would have appreciated to still be able to visit the reindeer, as we didn’t get to see any at all in our vacation this way. We understand a power outage is nothing the camp can control and we absolutely hope for them they were able to fix it within a timely manner. A earlier communication or optional Programm would have been highly appreciated tho.
Tricky one Run by the Sami people so that’s good. Efficient pick up- 2 big coaches. Lack of snow don’t help this experience thinking about it, the reindeer are fenced in an area with an electricity pylon in it. The whole was about an hour too long. People were waiting at the tables in the tent for ages before the food was served. Very tasty stew with nice bread. Cookies- shop packets, not great. Excellent talk about Sami culture when it eventually happened. If you can see reindeer in a small group and can afford that I’d personally suggest might be a better experience
Great experience feeding the reindeer. They even offer feed refills if you are quick to go get one before they run out. Transport to and from well organised and the meal was very generously sized too
We were very happy with this activity. Although quite short but there is not much more to do. A bit pricy considering is only 2,5 hours and around 40 minutes are used for transfers (in and out). The experience is great and the girl guide we had in the bus made the trip very short and enjoyable. Sami guides and tent were as expected, natural, original and authentic. It is expensive indeed but I will recommend it very much for those who wants to enjoy the animals close and live.
We toyed with husky sled ride or reindeers and went with reindeers, so glad we did. We were collected at 10am and taken on a scenic route to the reindeer where we got to feed them. Magical being so close to them and feeding them. Loved every minute. It was cold so good warm clothes and gloves a must even though at -4 it was mild for the reindeers! Our guide John Michael was entertaining, educational and interesting to listen to explain the Sami culture and their history. Lunch was good with an alternative if you don’t fancy the reindeer stew! Sled ride with them also very cool. Truly are magnificent creatures and so obviously well cared for. Left at 2pm to return to Tromso. Well worth it
Lovely time feeding reindeer and learning about the Sami culture. All staff were brilliant and the guide was spot on too. 4 hours consisted of an hour each way and two for feeding, lunch and learning. Glad we booked
Wow! An experience that we will never forget! Feeding and interacting with the reindeer was so much fun. Lunch and learning about Sami culture after was also amazing. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful.
We had a great time. It was a lot of fun to feed and pet the reindeer. The setting was beautiful, with snow-capped mountains all around. The guide gave a great introduction to Sami culture and the meal was fantastic. We were able to sit with people from a couple of different countries, as well.
Punctual bus trip through the mountains with beautiful view. On arrival quick and friendly operations. Feeding the reindeer was a great experience, do follow them to a quiet place after feeding, and you can observe them in their own daily surrounding. The reindeer stew was good! And the Sami presentation interesting and highly informative – Thanks for sharing this to both guides. I was impressed hearing the joit, as well as hearing what part of the Sami culture and way of life you want to pass across to next generations: seeking balance in everything, don't overuse anything and put things back where you took them after use. I took it home with me as wisdom of life, your life, but useful to everyone of us. Thanks!
Honestly a little expensive, but the tour checked all the boxes it promised - a bus charter + reindeer feeding experience + Saami culture properly explained by a real Saami guide + authentic reindeer stew (which tasted way more gamey than any restaurants/cafes that I tried the stews in) + a bus charter back I had a fun time feeding the reindeers. But if you are a solo traveler, make sure you think of creative ideas to take your own photos! :)
Great tour, amazing knowledge and fantastic experience. Our guide, John, was passionate about his culture and kept us informed and entertained the whole time. I loved learning about the Sami culture. The reindeers were majestic and gentle creatures.
We went on a day that was dumping thick beautiful snowflakes everywhere and it was magical! The reindeer are really friendly and sweet. It was awesome to learn a little bit about Sami culture too. Our guides were all amazing and kind. I highly recommend this experience!
A wonderful experience learning about Sami culture! The hosts were welcoming and happy to share their experiences with us. Interacting with the Reindeer was a special treat and a lot of fun! Highly recommend doing this to experience an important part of the culture of the area.
I would recommend this for people looking for a unique experience in Norway. Getting up close with Reindeers was a unique experience.
Go early in morning. Reindeer are hungry. Great guide and info on Sami culture. Wpuld highly recommend
This trip was one of the highlights of our visit to Tromsø. The scenery in the mountains is spectacular. There was lots of time to feed and interact with the reindeer, and we had the opportunity to upgrade our experience to include sledding. The lunch was good, both the reindeer stew, and the vegetable stew. The Sami guides shared information and artifacts about their culture which was really interesting. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time on this trip. The bus journey was smooth. The reindeer feeding was very wholesome and there was a fire to warm your hands nearby. We booked on to the reindeer sledging on arrival as an extra, which was 100% worth it even in the snow! The Sami culture talk was incredibly interesting, and it was great to try the traditional meal of reindeer stew.
Excursion was well organized and executed. Drive was about one hour through some beautiful scenery covered with fresh snowfall. The Sami guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We left with a much better understanding of the Sami culture.
We spent an afternoon in the snow with the lovely reindeer. It was a wonderful experience and a delight being able to feed them. We were given little buckets of feed to give them. Some let them feed out of the bucket but I fed them off my hand. We were provided with a light lunch of traditional Sami Reindeer stew with bread. They provided a gluten-free alternative which was vegetable soup with bread and gluten-free cookies! The talk about was really informative and we all enjoyed it.
They took us to the reindeer farm in two buses. First we were able to unload our unnecessary things in the lavvu. Tea, hot chocolate, coffee and a little cake were already prepared on the table. Our guide explained the program, what time we would have dinner, how long and how we could feed the reindeers. One of a kind experience, we adored it. If you were cold, you could go back to warm up at any time, or you could do it outside by the fire. Everyone we met was fantastically kind and smiling. They were happy to answer our questions. We would like to thank Kristian for his knowledge and presentation and stories about his people, the Sami. We left with wonderful experiences and knowledge. The speech in the Sami language at the end of the program made my eyes water. I am so grateful to have been there.
Tour operator was very professional. Overall a fantastic experience with a well thought out itinerary. We didn’t feel rushed. The reindeers are indeed adorable and given plenty of time to mingle and enjoy the experience. Our Sami guide did an excellent job explaining his culture. Although the group size was large - there were 2 buses and the group was split into 2 so we didn’t feel the crowd. Bus drivers drove safely. A really well organised tour. One of our best experiences in Tromso.
Sami culture and reindeer, an excellent day. Our guide walked us through the needed safety protocols and we were able to feed the reindeer. We were then feed reindeer soup and given cultural information and awareness of the Sami people.
It was very nice to learn about the saami culture. Activity is as advertised, feed some reindeer, get fed some reindeer and listen to someone talk about the saami way of life. All in all a pleasant experience.
Collected on time and given an itinerary for the day , snow suits and boots provided free of charge if required. Had the option of booking sledding on the day which was great. Would highly recommend and the talk with Ayli in Samo culture was very interesting.
Great tour! The camp is in an area of stunning beauty, in a valley between snow-capped mountains. It was an hour-long scenic drive, and the guide explained what we were going to see and gave us some ground rules. There were plenty of reindeer for us to see and feed, and several places to warm up in between. The Saami guide was passionate about sharing his culture. We had a lovely reindeer stew.
Great experience for kids and adults, learned and lieve the experience . Pick.up and drop off on time
Good to do when in Tromso … but we couldn’t do Reindeer sledge ride (however later did a husky ride in Kirkenes) … location was beautiful… Reindeers were well maintained… food was good… but overall it didn’t feel that special
It was a wonderful experience for the whole family to feed the reindeers, instructions on safety was clear. The lady who did the morning Sami experience talk on Dec 31, 2025 made the experience very insightful; and she patiently shared her experience and answered questions. Highly recommended
Great time feeding the reindeer and taking in the views of the mountains. The lunch was delicious and it was interesting to hear about the Sami culture.
Reindeers were the cutest and the meal that was provided was really good! I do wish the tour was a bit more organised in the sense of more annoucements on each checkpoint of the activity as it seems that sometimes travellers were unsure when the next activity would be happening. Otherwise, great trip (the drive was stunning!)
The entire experience was amazing, definitely worth of doing it. Everything that was mentioned in the tour description was available.
Incredible experience with reindeers 🥰❤️ and a tiny window into the fascinating Sami culture - thank you for sharing with us 😊🙏🏻
It’s an ok tour, interesting learning about Sami culture but not at £109. Really this is at most a £60 tour. Poor value for money
The weather may not have permitted looking for whales or auroras, but it was perfect for seeking reindeer . . . I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the reindeer and learning about the Sami people. The bus can pick you up in front of the Radisson Blu and return you there at the end. The reindeer will be quite happy to see you and accept some of their food from you. And I appreciated the introduction to the history and lives of the Sami people. I recommend the experience.
The pickup was a little chaotic but it is a short bus ride. The Sami hosts were great. Feeding the reindeer was fun and they weren’t overly aggressive. The snacks, meal and Sami culture presentation were all fantastic!
