It was great since the begining, the guide was super kind, intelligent, clear, concrete, she explained all about northern lights very clearly. Then she took us to an incredible spot to see the northern lights—the landscape was stunning—and she did everything he could to ensure that we not only got to see them, but that we saw them in an amazing setting, complete with mountains, a lake, and a forest... She took a lot of great pictures with a very profesional camera and ensure we could take pictures with our cellphones, providing us with tripods if needed. They also built a campfire and set up chairs around it, where the guide shared legends from different countries about the auroras; we enjoyed hot dogs (with various meat options) and hot drinks. They even provided a very comfortable, clean restroom, fully equipped with everything needed. It was an incredible experience and I fulfilled my dream of seeing the northern lights. I really loved it. Finally they droped everybody to their hotel. It was really great! 🩷

Margaux was a great host and guide! Her and Gregor were an amazing team doing so many different tasks for the group. And we found LIGHTS, despite challenging weather. Kudos to Margaux!
Really great experience. Margot was our guide. She tools us to a spot an hour away. When we arrived we could see some faint aurora but some patience really paid off. The tracking cameras were amazing and allowed us to see an expansion on way back and another viewing opportunity. There heated toilet tent was a blessing. There was also lots of tasty food and drinks to be enjoyed around the camp fire. Margot helped with camera settings and took some fantastic photos too. This really was a great trip and excellent value for money. We got dropped outside our hotel at the end. Highly recommended
The tour was excellent: we met at the Ami Hotel and took a van to a spot where we built a campfire to keep warm; we were provided with blankets and chairs, had some snacks, and our guide, Margaux, shared a lot of information about the Aurora Borealis. Margaux did everything to make the tour great, and by the end of the night, we saw the Aurora Borealis.
There was a little communication gap in our pickup time and location so we started out about 30 minutes late. However all was well and everyone from our cruise ship that had booked were present and accounted for. Our guide tonight was Margaux. She was absolutely fabulous. We first went out to a lake about an hour from Tromso. The skies were cloudy but we set up on a small beach, lit a fire and enjoyed some reindeer dogs, marshmallows and hot chocolate while we waited for the skies to clear. They did not, so we broke camp and headed back towards Tromso, in search of a clearer spot. This is where having an excellent guide like Margaux helps. She has quite a network of friends and other guides and one friend let her know of a spot near where we were driving. He saved a parking spot for her and we arrived shortly thereafter. The skies were clear and the northern lights were magnificent! We took lots of pictures and Margaux made some pictures with her camera as well as she took our pictures under the lights. Before we got back to our ship she had emailed all of the photos to each of us!! It doesn’t get better than that!
Excellent Northern Lights Tour from Tromsø Port via Arctic Circle Tours Tromsø (ACCT)! Our Guide Margaux led Mini-Bus of 14 friends from a Cruise on this Tour. First stop was a rest camp with fire pit and WC. But due to Cloud Cover we left after 90 minutes and drove to another site that Margaux learned from her network of guides has no clouds and strong Northern Lights. Tour exceeded our wishes with many excellent photos. Your was over 6 hours but well worth the time! Highly recommend Margauxx and ACCT!!
Margo was determined to find Northern Lights for us even though nature wasn’t too cooperative. She did! We had a great time and highly recommend this tour.
We travelled all the way from Australia to Tromsø to see the Northern Lights, but the odds were definitely against us this week, with clouds covering the skies. After spending a few nights in the glass igloos outside of town with no luck, we moved into the city and had a tour booked — only for it to be cancelled due to the weather. The following day, I found Arctic Circle Tours after reading about their success in even the poorest conditions. They did not disappoint! Margaux was full of passion, knowledge and wonderful stories. One story in particular was moving and will stay with me for a long time. We drove all the way to Finland, and nature put on a spectacular show. We were treated to dancing green lights across the sky, with even flashes of pink, and the aurora stayed with us for the entire time. Thank you, Arctic Circle Tours, for defying the odds and chasing the lights with us. It was an unforgettable experience. 💚💗✨
We did a lot of research before choosing Arctic Circle Tours. What stood out was the small-group minibus rather than a coach, a heated tent toilet, food and hot drinks, warm clothing if needed, and most importantly, the willingness to actually chase the Northern Lights, potentially even driving to Finland if conditions required it. The toilet was honestly one of the things that influenced my decision, even though I never ended up needing it! Our original reservation was for a night that increasingly looked like it would be completely clouded over. When we contacted Arctic Circle Tours, they were incredibly accommodating and helped us move our reservation up by a day rather than lose our opportunity altogether. We were very grateful they did. Our guide, Margaux, was wonderful. There wasn't much aurora activity when we arrived, but she remained hopeful without ever making promises about something nature controls. She told great stories around the fire, explained what was happening in the sky, and instilled confidence that we just needed to be patient. She was right, the lights eventually appeared and we had a beautiful display. The setup made waiting enjoyable: a fire, chairs, blankets, hot drinks and food, plus thermal suits and boots if needed. The minibus also has a 360° sky camera to help monitor the sky for activity. I especially appreciated that Margaux's photos and videos from the evening were shared with the whole group afterward in a OneDrive folder. We could enjoy watching the aurora ourselves without feeling like we had to capture everything on our phones. We returned to Tromsø around 1 a.m., which is exactly what I wanted from a real chase: they were willing to stay out, be patient and give nature time to cooperate. Nothing can guarantee the Northern Lights, but I felt this tour did everything possible to give us a good chance of seeing them, and made the waiting enjoyable too. One final suggestion: book directly with Arctic Circle Tours if you can. They're a local operator, and direct booking means more of what you pay stays with the business rather than going to a third-party booking platform. We were very glad we chose them and especially grateful to Margaux and the entire team for helping us make the most of our limited time in Tromsø.
This was beyond our expectations. Margot was the best tour guide ever and this was our second time following the Northern Lights with her. Mother nature put on a show that was spectacular. Much depends on the weather, but certainly Margot is an expert guide who knew where to look. Couldn’t be happier.
This was an outstanding tour! It was so outstanding that took it two days in a row! Our tour guide both nights was Margot and she was knowledgeable and determined for everyone to see the Northern Lights. The tour began at 6 with about 15 people seated in a comfortable mini-bus. We drove for 1.5-2 hours before stopping. Margot and our driver set up chairs and built a fire un a portable firepit for roasting hit dogs and marshmallows. Coffee, hot chocolate, and bottles of water were available. There was also a tent with a portable toilet. The lights were nit co-operative and after about 90 minutes, we traveled to the border of Finland. The night was overcast but Margot was undaunted and persistent. Eventually we saw a few, somewhat dim, lights but were pleased with the experience. It was after 3 am when we got back to the hotel-an indicator of Margot’s efforts. The next night was much the same with our first stop so we packed up and drove on where we hit the jackpot by a lake. The Northern Lights started a little slowly but quickly picked up across the sky! A guide is critical because initially, the lights look a lot like wispy grey clouds that change rapidly in intensity and shape. But when you take a picture, the colors appear and are wondrous. We even saw them dance! Part of our goal in visiting Norway was seeing the northern lights and, thanks to Margot, that bucket list item was achieved .
Fantastic tour with Margaux & Gregor. They gave a great explanation of what to expect, took us to a stunning location and looked after us so well with refreshments and stories while we waited for some activity. When it arrived a couple of hours later the sky was mesmerising. Absolutely recommend this tour to anyone!
Well organised tour , with our very enthusiastic, kind and attentive guide Margo. Comfortable & warm mini bus, with night camera attached for aurora viewing. Travelled approx 1.5 hours to the centre of Ringvassoya Island, searching for a micro climate & the stars’, which we found , despite persistent rain in Tromso! After a barbecue of hot dogs and roasted marshmallow’s, plus plenty of hot coffee / chocolate, the stars appeared, followed in time by a beautiful dancing aurora show. A second beautiful aurora burst , this time on our way home on the eastern coast line of Kvaloya, Fantastic photos and great company, made for a really excellent evening ( out for 7 hours) and wonderful memories.
From the moment our tour began, David and our driver (I'm sorry I forgot name) proved they weren’t just guides — they were absolute magicians. On a night when the weather looked hopeless and the rain refused to let up, they somehow managed to pull the Northern Lights out of the sky like a rabbit from a hat. They drove tirelessly, chasing every possible break in the clouds until they found the perfect pocket of clear sky. Once we arrived, they transformed a snowy roadside into a cosy Arctic camp: a warm fire crackling, dinner cooking, and even a heated loo tent (which deserves its own award). Their knowledge and enthusiasm were matched only by their kindness. They helped us adjust our phone settings, took stunning photos for us, and made sure every single person felt looked after. Nothing was too much trouble — they were patient and genuinely passionate about giving us the best experience possible. Thanks to their determination and expertise, we didn’t just see the Northern Lights — we lived a moment we’ll never forget.
David and our driver (sorry forgot name) were both amazing, attentive and informative. On our way they were busy checking the science for the right spot, and on a challenging night they pulled it out the hat, took loads of photos, while somehow setting up camp sorting dinner and showing people how to photograph on phones. We also had a loo tent that was warmed. Kind enough to drop everyone back their accommodation.
Amazing experience. Special thanks to Margaux (guide) and Gregor (Bus Pilot). They were amazing. Margaux kept us entertained throughout the tour. Both were very efficient in arranging the fireside experience when we reached the spot for viewing, and Margaux took some amazing photos of the Northern Lights for us. Margaux made our experience amazing. If we visit Tromso again, we will definitely seek out the tour with this company and especially with Margaux and Gregor.
David was an awesome guide for this tour. He took us to a remote area on the coast, saw reindeer and a moose on the way, and the Northern Lights put on quite a show for several hours last night providing a great memory with awesome photos also taken by David. His enthusiasm and passion for Aurora Borealis comes through which got everyone else in this small group excited as well. He also spent time explaining the tools used to measure the events and in helping people get some of their own photos done in addition to the catalog of pics he provided the group. Highly recommend using this company and David for a once in a lifetime experience!
Review: After trying two different Northern Lights tours during our trip to Tromsø, the experience with Arctic Circle Tours Tromsø was the clear winner. Our guide explained the forecast, cloud cover and backup plan before we even left the city. When conditions in Norway weren’t ideal, she didn’t hesitate to drive 2.5 hours into Finland to chase clearer skies. That persistence made all the difference. They set up a proper camp with a bonfire, chairs, hot drinks, marshmallows and hot dogs while we waited. There was even a heated tent with a chemical toilet (when we were researching, this was the only tour that had a toilet, otherwise its a very chilly wild wee). Then the sky delivered. Bright green ribbons of aurora moving across the horizon, clearly visible to the naked eye, not just through a camera. Well organised, genuinely focused on the chase, and easily the tour we’d book again.
David, our tour guide was excellent. He was so excited to go looking for a clear sky to see the aurora. While waiting he prepared a fire and we cooked hotdogs and marshmallows. Even though it is nature and cannot expect to see the lights, David did his best and made sure we saw them in a couple of locations. He took many pictures which were complimentary (not all companies do this) and emailed them to me the next day.
The tour went smoothly and we were lucky to have very clear skies and a full moon. Our tour guide David and our driver (sorry, I forgot his name) helped with camera settings to capture the aurora. They also set up camping chairs with backrest and distributed blankets. When I got cold, I could go back inside the minibus, and they turned on the heating. It was possible to use the hotel's restroom right before departure. There was a covered portable toilet at the camping site, which I didn't use, but it was useful for the women in our group. For drinks we could choose between tea and hot chocolate. The only thing I didn't like was the dinner, which included hot dogs (meat and vegetarian options available) of the cheap type that look and taste artificially (not real sausages). On the positive side, you could eat as much as you needed.
Absolutely amazing! Can’t put into words how blown away we were! All day we’d been hearing from people on other tours in the previous days how the weather has been so bad they couldn’t see the northern lights on there tour so we weren’t very hopeful. But from the minute we met Margaux she instilled us with so much hope and told us to never lose hope! She had so much energy, so optimistic and was so on it with everything northern lights! The tour was brilliant from start to finish. All the food, photos, bus and just sitting round the camp fire was amazing - that I would’ve been happy anyway had we not seen them. The photos were amazing. Thank you!
Fantastic work finding and photographing the Northern Lights. Had a short drive to an amazingly brilliant light display. Downside was the dinner (cold hot dog with small stale bun and a Dixie cup of semi warm hot chocolate).
We had the most amazing evening with Margaux - 100/10 - the atmosphere Margaux provided on the bus on the way to our view point was perfect , told us to hope for the best but not to expect any more than the reality that the lights have a law of their own. We had a great drive out , the driver was lovely and very cautious, could tell He knew the roads well! We arrived at a quiet place that was so beautiful. The stars were shining bright and the crisp cold was delightful. Margaux set up a fire and chairs and blankets for everyone a table with everything we needed including a heated toilet tent that was a luxury in the middle of nowhere! We were lucky enough the lights were already gracing the sky and we could take pictures! We ate good food and had amazing hot chocolate round the fire and Margaux told stories from all around the world! Then the sky began to dance with pink and green lights that caused our group to loose our minds!! Even the guides were so excited and I that just made it even more fun! It was unbelievable! We were so lucky! As we drove back after hours of The northern lights Margaux worked hard to get all the pictures she had taken sent to everyone and they were with us before we arrived back to Tromso. We booked this adventure last minute the afternoon before it left and got the last 2 places and I have never been so grateful that we booked with this amazing company! I can not recommend it enough and if you do book I hope the lights are in your favour when you go! Thank you for a fantastic experience, one we will never forget!!
A great trip. Signs of aurora was low, but they came out dancing. The guide Monica was very knowledgeable and took care of everything. We only had to drive about an hour out of Tromso. The minibus had a sky cam which was great to keep a watch as we went along. When we set up camp we had hot dogs drinks and snacks. They also proved a heated tent for the toilet which was a great perk. Overall a great trip.
Excellent tour from start to finish! Yes, the Aurora was very active and we had clear skies, but I’m basing my review on the care we were shown as people, and the knowledge and character of our guide, Margo. Her enthusiasm and good humor made our tour spectacular! We were given warmsuits and boots when we arrived at the meeting place. I ended up not using them, but was glad they were available. On the mini bus, Margo explained how they decide where to go- using up to date weather information, and Aurora conditions. They are prepared to go all the way to Finland if need be. We also learned a lot about the Aurora itself- I appreciated the scientific information was presented in very understandable terms. When we got to our first location, she set a tripod and took pictures of all of us against the backdrop of the Aurora. We moved on from there to a frozen lake surrounded by mountains a bit further inland. There, we made camp, and she took more photos of us, again with phenomenal lights in the background! When the Aurora finally calmed down, we gathered around a campfire for a hot dog roast and hot chocolate. There were even marshmallows to roast after. There was a nearby tent set up as a sheltered toilet. Margo entertained us with myths and legends regarding the Aurora as we ate and relaxed. After the tour, we were all driven to our respective hotels. I appreciated this since it was late, and we were pretty tired. I highly recommend this tour! The Aurora is never guaranteed to appear, but the care, consideration, and attention to detail that Arctic Circle Tours provides makes it an outstanding group to travel with!
David was a very enthusiastic and attentive guide. He was very knowledgeable and gave us photography tips. The sausages and marshmallows on the camp fire were a lovely touch. Would highly recommend. Definitely borrow the thermal suits! The photos provided by David were great too.
It was a cloudy night, the tour guide Margo worked very hard to find some Northern Light for us. She made more than 5 stops without any luck. However when everyone gave up and on our way back she finally found some; and everyone on the tour got the chance to take photos.
We had an amazing trip, thanks to David and Arnt. We unfortunately did not see any proper Northern Lights, but you can’t preplan this. Still, both of our guides made absolutely the best out of our experience. They were insightful, kind and fun. They did everything they could, from changing locations to stopping on the way, to maximize our chances of seeing northern lights. We didn’t see any, but we learned a lot and saw some beautiful nature. Well done, we highly recommend to chose this tour and would do it again!
We also got tasty snacks and the fire going for warmth. The location was very beautiful and the aurora was breathtaking.
We were well looked after by Margot. She took great photos of us. We were lucky and saw amazing Northern lights that night. We were also given photos and time lapse video of what she took. Amazing images.
We ended up booking with them once more since they were soo good, definitely the best one out of all tours we took. Disclaimer, the nights we went with them the sky was clear fully so I can't comment on their clear sky finding ability but other than that they go above and beyond! In everything, food, pics, logistics, the hosting/guiding. Very hospitable, and the bathroom is actually insanely good. The best value for money in my opinion. Thanks again Margaux, you were amazing!
My friend and I went 3 nights in a row, the first night the lights were a bit shy but the second and third nights they showed up very strong, we could see with naked eyes, the first guide was David who was very friendly and kind, the second guide was Margo who was amazing, I loved the places she chose and the whole experience was just magical, it’s a small company that takes care of small groups which make it possible for them to take care of each person in the group, they were so attentive for every little details I’m so glad a friend who went on the same trip back in September recommended this company to us, it was flawless beyond perfection. Thank you for making our experience unforgettable
Had the most amazing time, David was so passionate and knowledgeable, also took some great photos! We saw beautiful northern lights, sat around a fire, had hot dogs, sweet treats and hot chocolates. David taught us all about the northern lights and took lots of pictures which he sent to us via email the next day. Would recommend to anyone going to Tromso.
From start to finish this tour was amazing. Well organised, greeted at the meeting point and given thermal suits, onto the comfortable minibus and off we went. We were so fortunate to get a great northern lights showing, the guide explains on the way how they choose their location each night, how the lights work and obviously they are experts as they chose a great location and we were the only ones there. We had plenty of time to see the lights, staff helped everyone with their cameras and phones to get the best setup, and also took their own photos of us and the lights to send to us for free. The bus heater was kept on so you can go and sit for a little while to warm up, and the bus has a live camera screen so you aren’t even missing the lights! Food was great, cook your own sausage on a roll, donuts, marshmallows, nice hot chocolate! There was even a toilet tent. Everything was thought of and staff were always happy to chat, helping with everything and checking to make sure we didn’t need anything, even making sure those warming up on the bus didn’t miss any food! The whole experience was so thoughtfully put together, the knowledge and passion of the guides, and the genuine feeling of care, even down to dropping us off right at our hotel at the end which they didn’t have to. I couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Host was good and kept us informed/entertained. Food was tasty and overall an enjoyable trip. Bad night for northern lights but our host did her best to make sure that we saw what was about, so can’t fault on that side at all! Only downside, the minibus was a little uncomfortable especially for 5 hours in one night. If it was a better night which didn’t require us to drive so far away to see them, probably wouldn’t have been an issue.
Where to begin! I absolutely loved the tour! It was a dream come true to experience The Nothern Lights in Tromsø and the excitement of our guide David was contagious. He has so much knowledge and was super helpfull with the whole tour. It was so interesting to hear more about the Northern Lights and I loved that he took all the time for our questions and took so many beautiful pictures of us and the Northern Lights. When I look back at puctured, I just get goosebumps. Also the bonfire with (vegan) hotdogs, hot choco and marshmallows was truly so magical. It was my first night in Tromsø and to be this lucky to see the lights and dancing, it was more then I could have ever imagined it to be. David was super kind and it was no problem for him to drop me off at the Airbnb. To anyone hesitating to book a tour, please do it with this company! They are so reliable and it's so much fun to experience it with a small group. Thank you so much for making my dream come true!
A brilliant experience, really loved it. We had booked this tour for the end of our week long trip to Tromsø .. We'd seen the Northern Lights almost every evening (to varying degrees) so even considered cancelling this trip. I'm so glad we didn't. Our driver, photographer, and clear sky chaser was brilliant .. so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. With clouds over Tromsø and northern Norway, we ended up driving into Finnish Lapland, with a few stops on the way. We were rewarded by a quite spectacular light show right over our heads just as we were setting up the campfire. A brilliant evening.
It was amazing! not only the northern lights but also the whole thing, the tour guide was very nice and friendly. We really enjoyed it.
It was the most magical night. We went with David and he was so passionate about the northern lights. We’ve been to other northern lights tour before but this time David made us feel like it was actually a hunt, stopping at every spot he sensed or could see some lights activity, not just staying in one spot or going where everyone is. We were lucky enough to have gotten many amazing photos and enjoyed the bonfire under the northern lights for many hours.
This northern lights tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity that includes a relaxing dinner and phenomenal family and individual pictures. Our host (Margot) was extremely knowledgeable and guided us patiently to see this natural wonder. We were lucky enough to get an extraordinary display of the lights! We couldn’t have asked for a better night.
Just perfect. Our guide was wonderful, he made our tour amazing. Since we arrived at the meeting point until the Drop off at the hotel - he was 100% focus on us.
We got driven to a spot where our guides set up a fire and some chairs, then set up tripods for us. They took heaps of professional photos for us and were overall very helpful, nice, and kind.
An experience far beyond expectation. Our tour guide on 23rd November was absolutely fantastic, we saw the lights for over 3 hours and he took lots of wonderful photos ans videos. The best experience I've had in a holiday by far
Even though the Northern Lights didn’t show up, the tour was still worth it. Margaux was a fantastic host - friendly, knowledgeable, and great at keeping the group in good spirits. We even crossed into Finland, which was nice to tick off the list. Loved the campfire, hot dogs, and stories. Bad weather, but great guiding and driving on a small mini bus which felt more personal. Would happily go again and hope we get lucky next time!
It was just perfect. Our guide, David, made sure everyone was happy and cared for. The spot he chose couldn’t have been better. 10/10 experience.
We had an absolutely fantastic time on our Northern Lights excursion! We were incredibly lucky with the conditions and got to see multiple displays – even the magical dancing auroras. It was truly unforgettable. The whole experience was so well organised. The mini bus was comfortable, Gregor (our driver) was brilliant, and the heated tent toilet was a surprisingly amazing addition on such a cold night! The team had a cosy camp set up with a fire, chairs and unlimited hot drinks. We enjoyed marshmallows, hot dogs, doughnuts, and even extra snacks on the bus. We loved having access to snow suits, boots, and tripods too – it made everything so much easier and more enjoyable. Margaux, our guide, was absolutely fantastic and a superb photographer. She made the night even more special. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone hoping to see the Northern Lights!
David (our guide) was super friendly and knowledgable on Auroras, he really made everything he could to make our trip an amazing experience. I took two tours with him and he really picked really nice locations and amazing photos. When I come back I will not hesitate on booking with them again.
With snow forecast and cloudy cover for the past two days. Tour should have been canceled. Rode around in snowing conditions, stopped numerous times, had a hot dog cooked over an open flame while pouring down snow. Tour should have been canceled or at least and opportunity to get out of tour. Terrible experience.
We had an amazing experience. The guide was friendly and enthusiastic. The driver drove with care. It was a small group of 15 and we went to places where there was nobody else around. We were able to experience the Northern lights without the crowds you get on big bus tours. The bus cameras showed us some amazing displays even before we stopped. We stopped in several places to view the lights and they didn’t disappoint. Absolutely spectacular. The little warm toilet tent was private and clean. Much nicer than the bushes when you have lots of layers to contend with.
It was incredible our guide was the best, David was very kind and an outgoing person. He tried his best to show us the northern lights
