Even though it was snowy and cloudy in Tromsø city, our guide JJ drove us out and around until we found a clearing in the sky and we actually saw the northern lights! It was awesome to see, and the pictures JJ took are a great memento we can keep. Our group was originally 15, but they split us into 2 vans, so our van only had 7 in it. After seeing the lights and learning more from our guide, we sat around a campfire (thanks JJ!) with soup and roasted marshmallows. Then we were driven back to our hotel by 1:30am, all of the experience taking 8 hours (mostly because it takes a while to drive to and from the best viewing sites on a cloudy day). Would recommend!

Our experience with The Green Adventure and our guide, Lucas, was wonderful and unforgettable. Lucas is a tireless and passionate hunter, and he made us feel like hunters right alongside him. The traditional food enjoyed around the campfire added an extra special touch. Thank you, Lucas, for providing us with such a rewarding experience.
An absolutely amazing experience! We saw the Northern Lights in Skarsfjord, and the location was perfect. JJ was an outstanding guide: incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to explain everything in detail. He took fantastic photos of us, and the hot chocolate and soup made the experience even better. We had great conversations throughout the tour, and JJ kept us reassured and positive even when the aurora wasn't at its strongest. In the end, the Northern Lights became incredibly strong and beautiful, giving us one of the greatest experiences of our lives! We couldn't have asked for a better guide or a more memorable evening. Highly recommended!
Green Adventure is one of the midsize groups, yet they made it feel intimate and personalized. Our guide, Kat, did a great job navigating us to a beautiful spot with clear skies. Initially it looked like we only had to drive about 20-30 minutes but Kat could see the clouds moving and opted to get ahead of them so we had the best chances of viewing the lights - and boy did she make the right call! It was an incredible show and I’m so grateful to have been exactly where we were. The whole evening was well organized including a lot of helpful knowledge, hot drinks and warm soup by the fire. The pictures were beautiful.
Our tour guide JJ was exceptional. He carefully arranged for us to see the aurora, taking us to areas with low cloud cover and high chances of viewing the northern lights. He even brought us to the riverside where the water had receded. After about three hours, we reached the perfect spot, where we could see the Northern Lights with our naked eyes. Surprisingly, the lights appeared from the east. We then enjoyed a bonfire, reindeer soup, hot chocolate, and marshmallows. JJ explained the science behind the northern lights in great detail. With two teenagers in our group, they really enjoyed his narration and explanation about the phenomenon, including the effects of solar flares and Earth's magnetic field. The five-and-a-half-hour trip was an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We had an amazing experience with JJ and The Green Adventures, even though it was a cloudy evening JJ managed to ensure that we see Aurora at its best. Thanks a lot JJ and The Green Adventures.
I did this tour with my fiancée, dad, and his girlfriend and would highly recommend. Our guide Cat (11 out of 10) was super knowledgable on Tromsø, Sami people, Norway, and Aurora. We had a cloudy night in the city but Cat drove for 2 hrs to find clear skies and set us up for the night where we were see a TON of Aurora activity that lasted about an hour and a half which kept us out well past midnight. Once basically all the light was gone, we packed up and were returned safely to our hotel. The next day, my fiancée realized she left her gloves on the kinibus the night before and after 1 text message to the Green Adventure team, the gloves were waiting for her with the receptionist at our hotel. Truly top notch tour, service, and people! Highly recommend.
Did this tour on 15 Feb. The guide+driver, JJ, was an experienced NL hunter, who introduced us to Tromsø and the Norwegian culture. It was indeed a NL chase as he constantly monitored and received updates on the weather and cloud cover, and we changed our viewing spots accordingly. Fortunately, our final stop of the night had beautiful dancing lights. At each stop, JJ set up his camera and tripod, and took gorgeous photos for us with the spectacular background of greens and blues. Local stew and hot chocolate were served at the final stop, where we roasted marshmallows by the campfire. Best evening of my Norway holiday!
i genuinely cannot recommend Northern Lights Hunt ENOUGH. i've been on Northern Light tours in Iceland, Finland, Sweden... and all were pretty great in their own ways - but this one really takes the cake. Of course it was all really down to our guide, JJ; without him, I don't think this experience would have been the same. he is honestly one of the most dogged and passionate Northern Lights guides i’ve ever met, and we even drove into Finland before we were finally treated to the most fantastical display there. His level of commitment is out of this world; and most importantly, he was also a calm, skilled, and responsible driver in winter conditions, which i really appreciated. and omg, his photography skills are INSANE. mind, not every guide is a professional even as the trip promises "photos", but you can tell JJ really has a craft in photography and wasn't just taking "tourist-like" photos as part of his job task. he knew exactly how to position us, work with the lighting, flash, and capture the aurora perfectly. all the photos i have attached here are taken by that were taken by him; just to show you this isn't all hyperbole. i would seriously have hired him just to be my photographer for my entire trip. 😂

We had a really lucky night and only had to chase the lights for a few hours before we found a great place where ate by camp fire and saw the lights in full bloom, he showed us how to take pictures on our phone but he professional ones were much better quality
I had high hopes for this company based on the reviews but it was very lacking. Our tour was full with 15 on 3/19. As soon as we were on the bus he told us to temper our expectations because it was cloudy everywhere and we had very little chance to see any lights. To me that meant they should have just canceled. I had a different activity that morning with another company canceled due to high winds & weather because they knew the experience wouldn’t be good which I respected. I know over the past few weeks even when the weather looked bleak, some were still able to find pockets with aurora, so I get it, but this was not a day like those. I have seen amazing vibrant/strong aurora displays 5 nights in a row in Alaska a year ago which gave me the “bug”. I didn’t have to chase them, just stepped outside my lodge each night and lasted 3-4hrs each time, with some lulls of just dim white whispy aurora scattered throughout, but even then my camera picked up beautiful color and they were very active, just more faint. Our guide I think was Antonio, from Spain. He said nothing on our 90min drive to the spot. And nothing on the way back either. Once at the spot he was busy making fire, getting our soup, giving us marshmallows and providing hot beverages. Which was nice and yes, takes some work and skies were cloudy. And occasionally he walked away to take some test shots if any aurora was around. The only 2 interactions he had with us was 1-asking where we were from & if we had seen aurora. 2-before we left this spot to “hunt” some more, he gave us a quick 3-min talk about aurora. We drove 10min to where there was the ever so faintest anything that looked like black sky nothingness to the naked eye. He took all of our photos. Then drove another 10min to another spot and still wasn’t great. Then we drove 90min back in silence with music playing. I am fully aware aurora can only mildly be predicted and weather is volatile on the coast. However given the lack of hope from the outset (since they didn’t want to cancel but should have) he could have at least shared on the drive more detailed info about auroras, folklore, as well as local culture in Norway and a bit about the areas we were driving past on the way since was twilight and we could still see the landscape. I already know how auroras happen from my Alaska trip and other research I’ve done, but many people in this group had never seen them and didn’t know much about it. Maybe other guides with this company are better but overall I don’t recommend. It felt like a money grab.
While it was unfortunate that we didn’t see the lights on our tour, it didn’t stop the guides from trying to get us the views. Despite the terrible weather, we tried multiple locations, the guide constantly checked the weather apps and with his colleagues, and traveled up to Finland looking for a gap in the clouds.
it was an awesomely amazing experience!!! thanks to antonio! he really put the chase into chasing the northern lights!!! and it was worth it!!! highly recommended andcworth the money we paid!! thank you for the effort in taling pur pictures too!!!
From pickup at the cruise ship until our return, JJ our guide, was amazing. His knowledge about the lights was incredible and he knew just the right spot for us to see them. He was constantly working; driving, teaching, making fire, cooking, and photographing. Every moment was wonderful and they should get six stars!
The tour was amazing as we saw the Northern Lights appear several times, we were very lucky. Jay Jay, hosted well and looked after us. We had a campfire to keep us warm, hot soup was provided for dinner followed by a hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. Jay Jay kept us informed and updated on weather and our location. Great tour highly recommend.
JJ is an excellent guide! He is very informative and knowledfeable. Lucky to have such a great guide and see the amazing northen lights.
I had the most incredible experience with this tour group. I had Dawid as my driver and Antonio as the tour guide and they were both exceptional. After arriving at the meeting point I saw another tour guide let their tour down by telling them that there was no chance of seeing the aurora due to the weather conditions so I was beginning to worry. Then Antonio showed up, briefed our group on what was going to happen and assured us that we would drive as far as we needed to as their predictions were looking good. Dawid drove us all the way into Finland and took us to a remote road away from the main road where the sky just lit up for us. Everyone in the group managed to get their own pictures whilst Antonio took the professional ones. As we were setting up the campfire, he continued to check the aurora and got some more pictures of us when he found a different type had appeared. The campfire section was cozy and the reindeer stew, toasted marshmallows, and hot chocolate was a great addition to the night. Even on our way back to Tromsø, Antonio continued to keep an eye on the sky in case there was anymore vivid shows for us whilst Dawid drove us safely through some pretty hefty snow storms. It was a long night but 100% worth it for the experience. It really was an aurora chase and I would like to thank Antonio and Dawid for making it such an amazing and safe experience.
I cannot speak highly enough about our experience with this Juliane and Marteen! Marteen is a fabulous driver & Juliane went above and beyond to make sure we saw had the best chance of seeing the lights. They did not appear the first two hours and he was able to project that they would appear by midnight and they most definitely did with a surreal show. Juliane is very passionate about the lights and has an abundance of knowledge and experience with them. I would most definitely travel again with these two to get another glimpse. We also had the nice campfire and he went above and beyond to get amazing pictures of us. His photography skills are by far the best as northern lights can be tricky to get. Thank you so much Juliane and Marteen for this once in a lifetime experience!
Amazing guide Julien and driver Elliott. We had reindeer soup and toasted marshmallows around a campfire on a beach and saw some beautiful lights. Julien was very knowledgeable and took some amazing photos. I would highly recommend this company and tour.
Awesome evening despite challenging cloud cover they found the perfect place for the most beautiful display of nature
Julian was quite knowledgeable about the northern lights! He was very attentive in our search, which was successful. The photos he took were amazing! I highly recommend him! David was our chauffeur and did an excellent job. The roads were icing up on our return from the north.
Brilliant evening with JJ under the northern lights. Highly recommend
We went three times with this company and once with another company. There is no comparison! The Green Adventure had professional guides and drivers who went out of their way to find clear skies while at the same time ensuring your comfort and safety. The amount of effort the guides put forth was impressive and they delivered the results. In addition, the responses to my never ending messages were always prompt and filled with helpful information . If I come back to the area I would only book with them. A true class act! Truly an amazing and mind blowing experience! (Pictures taken with an iPhone)
Jessica is very knowledgeable about the history, scientific, and mythology of the Aurora. The whole crew was very welcoming. As someone who goes on solo trips, this was one of the best companies that supports solo travelers.
Amazing experience on march, 10th. The main point for sure was the passion and energy from our guide, Jessica. She managed to find a great spot on the nature and in the way back to hotel stopped several times to check "aurora expansion" and we had another show in one of this stops.
We had an amazing time! Jessica was very friendly and knowledgeable. She gave lots of information, took great pictures, and helped us up when we fell in the snow (many times). We even pulled over on the way home to see the lights again when the view was good. Definitely would recommend this tour!
Our guide Antonio was very passionate and knowledgeable. You could tell he really enjoyed taking us out and photographing. Would highly recommend.
Thank you for a fantastic Northern Lights experience. Julian our guide told us so much about the Northern Lights that we didn't know before. Great service so again a big thank you. Merit and Björn Israelsson
A top bucket list experience!
Wonderful experience! I would say magical! Guide Tour Antonia very professional and persistent to find aurora! Bring warm clothes!
Extremely enjoyable tour with Green Adventure team. Wonderful sightings of aurora, great selection of location, expert guide and very good arrangements. Look forward for more with them. Definitely goid operators to go with. Saleel Tambe
This is a small group tour, about 15 people in the minibus plus driver Martin and guide Jessica. Jessica was great, explaining in detail how northern lights are created and the tools she uses to track these for the tour. We drove between 1-2 hours outside of Tromsoe away from the city lights to get clear skies and then wait for the magic to happen. Ultimately she chose a location by a lake to set up the campfire and waited for the lights to appear. We had hot drinks, a hot meal of rehydrated but delicious camping meal, and roasting marshmallows over the campfire. The aurora came on slow at first, but eventually we were wowed by a series of fantastic shows. Of course to the naked eye the northern lights looked really bland, the nearly full moon didn't help in cutting down light pollution. But through Jessica's camera, the lights looked amazing. This is my 5th journey to northern Europe in winter, 3rd time above the Arctic Circle, hoping to see the northern lights. And thanks to Jessica's expertise, the 5th time is the charm. One night on this Green Adventure tour has made my trip to Tromso/Sommaroy well worth it. It might cost a little more than other northen lights tours, but the small group, Jessica's enthusiasm and expertise made it well worth it.
A fantastic experience. Thanks to Antonio and David for your dedication, driving us into Finland for an experience of a lifetime. Highly recommended.
Such a cool experience. Our guide Antonio and driver David really got us to a great spot in Finland to see an amazing show
What an unforgettable experience! Eight of us were driven to a beautiful spot in the mountains surrounding a fiord. It was a beautifully clear night with dark starry sky & bright moonlight casting wonderful reflections across the water. JJ our guide was really interesting on the whole subject of the lights & was super helpful with photography & very was generally very engaging company, taking great trouble to ensure our evening was the best it could be. The lights emerged & were glorious & mesmerising as they danced across the vast sky in waves of vivid colour & growing intensity. We were alone with this repeating display in the great silence all around us. JJ made a fire & we sat around it drinking Reindeer soup, roasting marshmallows & enjoying hot chocolate. So welcome & very delicious! It was a marvellous trip which we would highly recommend. The photos JJ forwarded to us afterwards are fabulous too. A great company!!
I was stuck on how to choose a northern lights tour but this was honestly the BEST. Julien was the guide and the perfect mix of information about the lights, the science behind them, explaining how to track them by yourself for other nights, tips for Tromso and all whilst taking pictures. He found a great spot away from the big buses and bright groups of people. He also offered to help set up your phone camera settings to capture the lights
Absolutely brilliant! JJ, our guide, was so friendly, knowledgeable & helpful, especially with tips on photography. There were only 8 of us on the tour which made it more personal. JJ took us to a couple of fab locations, with water & mountains to make our photos more special. We were so lucky with the Northern Lights - an unforgettable display lasting well over an hour. Then soup, hot chocolate & marshmallows roasted on an open fire. I’d highly recommend this experience.
An excellent choice for Northern Lights hunting in Tromsø. We did the tour two days in a row with Green Adventure, and both experiences were different from each other, yet equally amazing. The first tour took place on a day with a snowstorm. We were very concerned at first, but the entire trip was conducted safely. It was impressive to see the effort and dedication of our guide, Antonio, and the driver, David, in finding a location with good visibility. We were lucky to have strong solar activity that night, but without Antonio’s expertise, we wouldn’t have been able to witness the show. Throughout the journey, he was constantly analyzing routes, gathering information, and observing the sky. At two different stops, he quickly noticed signs that something promising was starting, pointed out where we should look, and guided us efficiently so we could be in the right place at the right time. On the second day, with our guide Jessica, we had a clear, starry sky, which gave her more time to provide detailed explanations about the phenomenon during the drive. Solar activity was still weak when we left, but she carefully monitored the forecast and used the time wisely to reach a stunning location. The spot she chose was perfect, with an incredible view of the fjord. We were lucky to see the aurora again, and Jessica also took great photos of the group. We highly recommend Green Adventure. Before the tours, we had a few questions and they responded promptly via WhatsApp. They provided thermal suits and tripods upon request and served a good “turmat” meal around the bonfire. The soup was tasty, and there was also a vegetarian option available. Everything was very practical and thoughtfully organized.
What a wonderful way to spend the day, cruising along on a day ride through some of the most scenic fjords you will ever see. Such a pleasant way to spend the day.
If there was one word to describe the tour: wow! We were very lucky with the spectacular light show that we got that night but even if we had worse luck, we could tell we were in good hands with our driver David and guide Antonio. The pickup location was easy to find but be mindful that there are other tours that leave from the same location. Make sure you arrive about 5 minutes early to find your guide. Antonio was an excellent guide and you can tell that he genuinely loves the outdoors and showing people the natural beauty of Norway. They will do all they can to make sure you can see the northern lights. We had two stops. Our second stop was the longest and where we saw an amazing show. Antonio took lots of pictures of both the lights and us with the lights in the background. He also made a campfire where we had dehydrated reindeer stew (sounds gross but it was delicious) and marshmallows. The fire took a while to build because the light show was so spectacular that Antonio kept getting distracted! We were able to download all the amazing photos with a small watermark and purchase individual photos without the watermark. I wish there was a “picture package” that we could purchase for all of the photos as the site to buy the individual photos was oddly setup. Buying the pictures goes directly to your guide, so that’s really the only way to tip them. Having the site setup like it is and no picture package makes it difficult to buy pictures and support your guide. Overall, I would highly recommend this experience and want to thank Antonio and David for the once in a lifetime experience. Even if you have a tougher time finding the northern lights, you are in good hands with the Green Adventure.
Amazing experience. Very experienced guide Antonio who selected beautiful picturesque secluded locations. Very comfortable minibus, thermal gear, good ready made soup with roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate. We had a clear night with an amazing light show. Would definitely recommend this outfitter. They went above and beyond to help us see the Northern lights.
Just ok. I’m not sure I would recommend this to other people we showed up and there were two different tour guides. One of them got to the northern lights way earlier than the other bus that I was on a very confusing. Realize you have to follow the lights, but why did we drive multiple hours in a different direction?
We had a great time on our tour. The forecast for Tromsø was heavily cloudy but our guide made sure he found clear skies and a spot to give us the best chances, moving when needed. Julien was very knowledgable and the expedition food around the fire with marshmallows and hot chocolate was such a great experience! Definitely recommend!
very lucky, the sky is no cloud. and the guide and driver are very professional!great experience, thank you.
My wife, daughter, and I had an incredible experience with Green Adventure that was more than we could have ever asked for. Even in the frigid cold, our guide, Antonio, ensured we had an awesome time. He even took us across the border into Finland to find the perfect viewing spot. The Experience: The hospitality was top-notch. We had a cozy campfire with hot drinks and marshmallows. For the meal, they served Turmat soup; while most others had the reindeer, we had the tomato soup, which was great. Antonio was incredibly patient and allowed us to take as many of our own photos as we wanted. The Photography (Green Adventure): The photo package is a major highlight. Antonio took about 75 professional photos and a fantastic time-lapse video. It is important to note that the included photos are web-quality with watermarks. However, they offer an upgrade to high-resolution, non-watermarked files. We paid $170 USD for all 75 photos (you can also get 10 for $100 USD), and it was well worth it—especially since the proceeds go directly to the guide. Comparison: We went on another chase the following night with a different company (initials WO), and they were not nearly as good. They only took 20 photos, a much shorter time-lapse, and they didn't even take photos during the best part of the Northern Lights show. The Finish: At the end of the night, they dropped us off right at our hotel. Since we didn’t return until 2:30 AM, this was a very nice touch. I would absolutely go with Green Adventure and Antonio again. A truly first-class experience!
Spent an exceptional evening chasing the lights with Antonio and Davide. Despite snowstorms in Tromso and me having very low expectations of seeing anything, we headed all the way to Finland and were rewarded with a spectacular show! Antonio kept us all informed and explained exactly what we were doing and why. Both my own photos and those from Antonio are amazing! Loved the campfire with Bidos, marshmallows and hot chocolate. Would 100% recommend this company for a tour!
Truly memorable night of aurora chasing with our super energetic and determined guide Julien. The lights were already visible from Tromso as we boarded the bus and with no clouds and good aurora predictions, we were optimistic. We stopped a couple of times to see the lights in case they disappeared, but eventually Julien took us to a great, very dark secluded spot in the woods by a frozen lake and stayed there for hours. He was sure we would see a great display but told us we had to be patient. Campfire was started and we were given reconstituted expedition food which was OK (reindeer stew, or vegan option). Julien was good at getting our group of about 12 ppl chatting. After a few hours we were all a bit cold (no-one took the thermal suits on offer), and there were pretty decent green aurora coming and going slowly so we thought maybe that's it, but Julien was sure a show was coming. Just before midnight, an amazing display started with the lights dancing in and out magically in green, red and white, right above us for at least five minutes. We just watched in awe. Julien had a high res camera and took wonderful photos and video which he shared after with the group after. We got back to Tromso about 1.30am and felt very lucky.
I highly recommend this tour by The Green Adventure. The tour guide is very knowledgeable. He explains how this natural phenomenon occurs, shares his personal experiences, and helped the group form a strong bond. It’s clear that he knows his craft well. He also captured amazing photos of us under the northern lights.
Jessica was an excellent guide and gave us interesting information to the Northern Lights. Also the driver made us feel any time safe and comfortable in the bus. Green Adventure uses small buses of about max. 15 people which we appreciated extremeley. We had the chance - thanks to Jessica's knowledge and good networking with other guides - to find after only about 1.5 hrs car drive the wonderful Northern Lights! Performance-price ratio of the tour is very good.
