The guide, Nico, was excellent. He is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the northern lights. He worked very hard to get us to see the lights, and we had to move a bit and drive for a while, but it was amazing. After you’ve seen the lights, he makes a nice fire and gives you good soup. Going in a small group really made it even better, so you could focus a lot on the northern lights and not noise. I would highly recommend this tour

An spectacular trip whilst I was in Tromso with Nico. Booking was straight forward, instructions clear and good communication with Nico beforehand. Very comfortable vehicle. I was fortunate on this trip to experience it with Nico on THE NIGHT when the lights were truly spectacular. We headed out of town to the middle of a forest in front of a lake which was so still it was like a mirror with snow topped mountains in the background. However, the decision to head to that location where there were no other people is down to Nico's knowledge and experience. The journey there was very exciting and to be honest when we arrived, I was like a kid in a sweet shop. Cannot sum up adequately what the whole experience was like. Nico is clearly very dedicated in his persuit of giving his clients the best possible chance of seeing the lights, and tonight surpassed my expectations. Yes, you might pay a little bit more than a lot of operators for a small group, but I would genuinely highly recommend it. Lovely hot food and beverages and cookies etc all added to a very enjoyable time. Nico was very helpful with camera settings and composition, ensuring I got the most out of the display! I would highly recommend Nico to anyone and urge you to support small operators, they work hard and deserve it.. Thanks for making such memorable moments!!

Artic photo guide experience to chase the northern lights was amazing. Before booking he was very upfront and honest and answered any questions we had. Weather was not looking so great the day of our trip but he was constantly checking all data to give us the best possible chance of seeing the lights. He took us to a great location by a lake , gave us suits to put on for warmth, gave us hot drinks, hot soup and desserts while we watched and waited. Soon after the clouds cleared and we had an amazing show of the Northern Lights for a good hour. Everything was perfect. We learned so much about the area and the lights during the evening from Nico.

This was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a guide. This was our third attempt at seeing the Aurora for a birthday trip, and it did not disappoint! Nicola's tour was recommended to me after extensive research using Gemini - he was listed as having the best photography-first tour in Tromso, and I whole heartedly agree! My friend and I had an absolute blast - despite the long travel time into/out of Finland, Nico did everything he could to position us someplace we could see the lights without disturbing others and having our own special experience. Although he did not have a group tour scheduled this day, he pulled together a small group on his day off at my request - truly went above and beyond to accommodate us before, during, and after the trip. We went out with Nico on the 27th of March and we had the best time! Nico is a really friendly guy he knows his stuff and you can see how passionate he is about his job and the northern lights! We was so lucky to have an amazing show that lasted hours he took some amazing photos of the lights and of me with the lights they are way better than any of the photos I took and will be great to look back on and show family and friends. This tour was incredible. Well worth the money. We were so fortunate with the weather and the solar activity but even so Nico was an exceptional tour guide. He was passionate and knowledgable and determined to take us to the best spot. Our initial place was gorgeous as we were able to take shots with the northern lights reflected in the Fjord. However, when more tours turned up, Nico took us somewhere else to prevent their lights ruining our shots. For me personally, Nico was able to show me how to use my camera to take some amazing shots myself. He taught me about different setting and creating the perfect composition. There was so much activity that we ended up creating a fire a bit later. Nico warmed soup for us all which was needed at -10. He even gave us heated shoe insoles which were needed! We are really excited to see our photos when they come through from him. The ones he showed us on his camera looked perfect. His vehicle meant that we could get further off the beaten track and had a very personal experience. I would definitely recommend. This trip was a once in a lifetime experience for us and now we have the perfect photo memories thanks to him.

My wife and I booked a private tour with Nico so that we could bring our young son (too young for the bus tours). My wife ended up getting sick, so it was just me and Nico. Given it was just the two of us, Nico asked how I felt about some trekking while looking for the Northern Lights. We snowshoed to a remote lake under a full moon. It was a fantastic experience. Because Nicola runs the smallest tour out of Tromso (6 passengers), he can drive and stop his outfitted 4x4 ANYWHERE he sees activity. When I saw an opening popped up, I shuffled many other tours around to book with this company. It was worth it when, well past midnight and on the way home, he suddenly parked next to a frozen lake just before the dancing auroras started—a clear-skied explosion of moving pink and green curtains that was the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen! 🤩

Had an amazing tour with Nico ! He was really knowledgeable of the lights, weather and the area. We found quiet a spot sheltered from the wind and with a beautiful scenery for the amazing show the sky had prepared for us. It felt like being on a hike with a couple of friends. I was also impressed with Nico's ethics. The original day of our tour was bad weather and he openly asked us whether we prefer trying the following day (which meant more work and rearranging others things for him). Plus it's really fun being in the cool being in the 4×4 snow truck and seeing where it can go and the photos you get at the end are amazing. I would highly recommend!

Had my proposal on the tour with Nico and it was the best moment and experience ever. Nico is a very knowledgable, engaging and experienced northern lights hunter. He knows the technical details of chasing the lights (e.g. windiness, cloudiness, monitoring the weather and aurora etc) and even rescheduled our tour to the next day as the weather was pretty bad on the day of our tour, which shows how passionate he is on helping people to see the northern lights. It never felt rushed or difficult, and since there was no snow yet during our early October visit, the walking was very manageable. He’s constantly monitoring the sky, forecasts and conditions while still being an engaging guide the entire time. It’s a stressful job, and somehow he makes it look effortless. This was our first northern lights tour, and we truly can’t imagine anyone doing it better. If we return to Tromsø, we wouldn’t consider going with anyone else. I highly recommend the kind Nico as a guide & photographer for your arctic excursion, chasing the northern lights. I’m lost for words and how incredibly memorable he made our trip. From the convenient pick-up at our Tromsø AirBnb, to the interesting conversations and chats we had during the drive, to the off-road locations he was able to take us to in his 4x4 (which you would not be able to experience in a coach on a group tour). We actually drove passed seas of coaches in lay-bys as we drove into woods, through the wilderness, to find the most secluded and scenic spots to capture into idle photos. I felt so lucky we were able to do this. I had planned a surprise weekend away to propose to my partner and it could not have been more perfect. Nico of course knew the plan, and went above and beyond to help me find the perfect most scenic place to get down on one knee. I’d do it all again tomorrow. It felt like the most special adventure and the photos that Nico had captured were absolutely perfect. If you’re deciding between a larger group tour and a private one, I couldn’t recommend the tour with Nico enough. It was worth every penny and made for the most memorable proposal! Luckily my partner said yes, or our plan was to leave her in the woods! 😂❤️ We all talked for hours, explored, ate, were kept super warm, and the experience of reindeer soup and hot chocolate in the wilderness of Northern Norway was a once in a lifetime experience. Amazing experience to chase the Northern Lights. Small group of six means it’s more personal (we also did a minibus tour with another company and this was notches above). The guide paid attention to every small detail from thermal suits to head torches to camp fire, hot chocolate and reindeer stew. He chose a beautiful area with a lake which added stunning reflections to the photos. He provided useful information and judged the time and place well. His professional photos came out thoroughly impressive. He was good with my 9 year old child which was important as I know some tours don’t accommodate younger kids. Would highly recommend.

From the start, even before I arrived in Tromso, Nico was always responsive to my queries on the correct equipment to bring. During the tour, he is always checking on everyone to ensure they are warm enough. He definitely goes to offroad places where you get the quiet away from the bigger tour groups. Would definately reccomend if your looking for an intimate Northern lights tour.

The night of 18 September 2025 was our first time hunting the light and I am glad that it was with a guide and happy that it was Nico. Having read the weather forecast for clouds, he drove us to a secluded open area with clear skies and once we were in our thermal suit, as if on cue, the aurora appeared and stayed and moved in different forms for probably around 2h! We were really lucky. We were able to see the aurora dance, tried taking photos with our phones and have Nico taking photos of us with an actual camera. Even though this sort of tour can be unpredictable due to mother nature, Nico somehow managed to plan a toilet stop before the location and another toilet stop while driving us back to the hotel. It was also nice hearing about how he started these tours and I will definitely want to join one of his photography tour if I ever pick up photography, if not, another attempt to hunt the light will be great too.

I had a lovely time on my aurora chase trip with this company. The guide Nicola took us to the place far around 1 hour ride from Tromso and we were the only group there. It was a nice spot at the lake surrounded by the mountains. The aurora was quite strong and we could see it for more hours which was a great experience. We also received a lot of nice pictures of ourselves and landscapes quicky after the trip. Would definitely recommend!

We went for aurora chase with Nico at the end of March. Not only we were extremely lucky to have a blast with a magnificient lights display that lasted for like 5 hours (which is quite raw) , we could also face this experience in a beautiful nature! 😍 This could only happen because Nico took us with his 6x seats 4X4 to a secluded spot to arrange this intimate experience just for the six of us which felt supernatural. He's the best aurora guide we've ever met knowing some of the most stunning spots and also taking care of all individuals in his group. At last but not least his photos are simply gorgeous - not oversaturated with useless filters but a great composition and background on the pics! Nico is the best "aurora hunter" you can wish for. I didn't expect to see anything on that stormy day, but thanks to his enthusiasm and knowledge, we found a perfect spot to enjoy the northern light. The small group size also made the trip more enjoyable and flexible.

Nico is a fantastic guide. He was brilliant at explaining the phenomenon and managing expectations. His knowledge of the area meant he was quick at adapting the plans to make sure we had a clear sky. We spent 3 nights in his company and due to his expertise, were lucky to have an epic display each time. He also took wonderful pictures of us and the group and provided lovely local food and warm drinks. Being only a small tour of 6 is what makes this tour special and stand out from the rest. We were able to access spots away from the big buses and enjoy the aurora in solitude and tranquility. As a photographer myself, Nico was very helpful at advising on camera settings and offering composition tips as well. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Tromsø and hoping to see the Aurora!

We had such an amazing time chasing the Aurora Borealis with Nico. Mother Nature was obviously very kind to us but, he made it possible for us to see it in such a beautiful place, even with really bad weather predictions. There was a snowstorm and a lot of cloud cover. Nico delayed the start of the tour keeping it in mind, as the weather was supposed to improve later in the night. He drove us a long distance, constantly checking for clear skies. We initially had no success at the first attempted destination. He then drove us to a different location. His perseverance paid off. We had such a wonderful, magical night. He also provided us with everything required to help us stay warm. I went with Arctic Photo Guide to chase the auroras on 14th March 2025. Nico was very welcoming and a subject expert on chasing the Northern lights. He was friendly, welcoming, meticulous and made every effort to ensure everyone was comfortable during the chase.
