This is a small-group, outdoor tour tailored especially to explore the Arctic nature while you are hunting for the Northern Lights. The main purpose is to give you the best chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis by traveling away from city light pollution. Position yourselves under cloud free skies to experience the wild Arctic nature. You will be picked up by your local guides in the city center and start the tour by heading towards beautiful mountains, fjords, and valleys. There will be many stops on the way to take photos of the unique and search for the lights. Where your tour goes depends on the weather conditions, sometimes this is as far as to the Finnish and Swedish border to find the right conditions for the lights. Travel in small groups to create a special, cozy atmosphere. This also makes the tour more flexible. You will be provided with insulated overalls, snacks, and hot drinks. Your guide will take photos on the tour and share them with you after the trip.

Thank you so much for this amazing and unforgettable experience! A special thank you to Thomas, our guide, for his kindness, attentiveness, and wonderful hospitality. You made our Northern Lights adventure truly special. We will remember this night for a very long time. Tibor, Andrea, Akos
Our guide Thomas was very friendly and informative. He was full of useful tips and advice to make the most out of the experience. We tried many trips with the 100s of providers who make all kinds of guarantees but none of them had the same level of expertise. We were at the start of the season and were advised that it would not be easy but Thomas knew where to go. We had an amazing night and the skies opened up for us. He even loaded some professional photos of us afterwards
Great company. We did this twice, just to make sure we saw the gray lady. Both times this company went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend. Have realistic expectations and you will love every minute of it!
It was very beautiful, the weather was bad but the crew give us some good spots and we saw a lot of polar lights
Totally great experience, the crew was super experienced and we saw the lights without going far away - recommend
We had a great time with Polar Adventures. The minibus was a great size as the tour felt intimate and not crowded. Our guides Hans Eric and Socrates were very friendly, knowledgable and organised and kept the tour running smoothly. Hot chocolate, cookies and toasting marshmallows by a fire were lovely touches to an already great night hunting the Aurora.
Enthusiastic guide who took us a far distance from Tromso, but we trusted her and were not disappointed. We were fortunate to experience a fantastic light display by staying put for sometime. On the way back we made a couple more worthwhile stops which did make a late night, but well worth it. Thank you Joanna.
Our guide, Hans Eric, was excellent. We lucked out and saw so many aurora. Hans was very informative and explained what was happening. Wonderful experience.
Great experience! Sara found us an amazing spot to see the lights, she told us to trust the nature, and it actually delivered!! It was an amazing evening, mostly because of the team, big shout out to Sara and Leila!
Sara was very knowledgeable about aurora activities and got us to the perfect location, with the help of very capable driver Layla
Matous was a great tour guide. It was great to chase the lights. It was very cold though so wrap up warmer than you think you need!
Despite the not-so-perfect weather conditions, they managed to find two great spots where we were able to see a fantastic aurora. We were really impressed by their determination and experience. The guide was knowledgeable and very friendly, which made the tour even more enjoyable. The refreshments offered by the fire were excellent and created a cozy, memorable atmosphere.
Space in minibus was too tight and no restroom for 6-7 hours, this should be alerted as some women couldn’t just go ‘wild’
Never connected at pick up site. Would not answer phone to connect to driver. Billed full price for tour. All they had to do was answer my call or text. We were 2 minutes from location to pick up. Spoke with them earlier in day to confirm it was the yellow building beside gas station and they said yes. That is where we were. Do not know what the problem was to tell me I was at the wrong yellow building!
We had originally booked the experience for a day later but the tour operator got in touch the day before to ask if we wanted to do the tour this night instead as was a clearer night and better chance to see the aurora which we gladly accepted. We set off around 8pm a group of 7 with Oscar our tour guide who was very friendly, knowledgeable and chatty. He stopped at a few locations to check visibility before taking us to a remote location around an hour from Tromso city centre, the stop was to a cosy grilling hut which we could sit in for some warm drinks, hot dogs, sandwiches and choc cake all included whilst we waited for the auroras to appear, Oscar continued to check and alerted us when they appeared and had his professional camera set up ready to take some great pics of the group. We were able to make our own hotdogs on the grill and sandwiches it was very cosy and wholesome and welcomed not to be just standing out in the cold or van all night awaiting on the auroras to appear. 100% recommend this tour, shout out to Karin for the delish choc cake and to Oscar our terrific tour guide. You will not be disappointed.
Amazing experience! Hans Eric provided lots of information and took us to the best places to catch the lights! They were amazing! The driver was also really lovely and drives safely.
To make the wait more enjoyable, tours provide a range of amenities, including campfires, hot chocolate and snacks, as well as gear on occasion.
We were a group op 5 and made 4 northern light tours bookings on Dec 30, 31 2025 and Jan 1st and Jan2nd 2026. On Dec 30 we had the Northern Lights Chase Acres borders booked via GYG. The pick up was at Polaria as they couldn’t pick up at the hotel Scandic Ishavn Hotel. There were 15 guests on the bus and they did all they possibly could to find a spot where the northern lights were visible, we drove 4 and a half hours through Sweden into Finland. When the driver finally said this was the first time this season he had not seen the light it appeared en we enjoyed the 20 minutes of light. than 4 and a half hours back to Tromso in the mini bus. the mini bus driver was in T-shirt while all the guests were in Thermo gear so the 23 degrees Celsius in the bus were very uncomfortable. the snow storms were difficult to drive in and I felt unsafe at high speed but the driver had to get back within the permitted hours to drive. We saw the light, came home dehydrated, the photos that were included arrived 8 day after the trip, but they did all that was possible to show us the light. I left my beanie in the bus and the guide whom I saw the next day told me they had it, well they still have it as I was not informed where it could be picked up. The hot chocolate served was like warm water; I would NOT book this trip again in future. On Dec 31st we did the Aurora Chase by Minibus with Thermal suit, snack and Photo booked via tripadvisor to Polar Adventures. This minibus had 24 guests on board and pick up was at Fra Nansens Plass, also not at the hotel. First stop was at a place where 2 Large buses were parked already, so the advantage of mini bus was non existent. after a half hour we than moved to a place closer to Tromso with a lot of light pollution, so when the aurora appeared the view was very poor and than the guide and driver were in a hurry to get back home as it was new years eve. we are still waiting for the photos that were supposedly included. Our daughter left her hat and reading glasses on the bus, we were immediately informed where they could be picked up and we did so. As the places selected by the guide to view the aurora were awful would NOT book again. Day 3 Jan 1st, we were booked on the small northern light tour max 8 guests, pro photographer included, booked via tripadvisor to Alshemal Norway. We were picked up from our hotel, Zain the guide contacted us already 2 days before to make sure we were ready for early pick up if needed. we were total 7 guest on the minibus. they took us to the coast near Somaroy. the whole experience was FANTASTIC! a very good spot in total darkness, no other buses, delicious snack and top quality hot chocolate, campfire, a large number of professional photos that were in the dropbox the following day. Anyone looking for a great experience BOOK THIS ONE!! Thank you very much Zain for a great night out We cancelled day 4 of our reservations as we had seen the aurora 3 days in a row. VIATOR refunded to my creditcard within 24 hours.
We took 2 different trips with 2 different companies, we preferred this one the most, even if the lights weren't quite as bright. (which isn't the tours fault) If wasn't that cold, but thermal suits are nice when you are standing outside in the snow for so low. They also made hot drinks and had cookies/snacks. Bus was comfortable, and we knew it didn't have a toilet which wasn't an issue. We really enjoyed our tour guide and driver, who talked about different topics as we went, also quiet time. She was super excited about sharing the lights and her stories were interesting. She even sang some of the indigenous throat songs which was unique, and later came out into camp singing as Santa Lucia as it was December 13th which was her celebration day.
Great experience with great guide and driver (Dimi and Socrates). Very knowledgeable and thoughtful. Nicely caring each tourist, hunting patiently from place to place, and finding us a great spot to see the northern light at night.
I had the most magical experience with Joanna on our Northern Lights minibus tour. We really got lucky and Mother Nature put on a spectacular show with both green and pink light dancing through the sky. Joanna and our lovely local driver well friendly, helpful and caring. Making sure to not stop where it was too icey and ensuring we had the best chances for magical photos. The pick up point is easy to find and the hotel drop off is appreciated late at night. Thanks again!
Amazing tour, we saw the most stunning display of northern lights. The tour guide and driver were amazing. Matous our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the tour giving us an amazing experience. He took many brilliant photos, made everyone feel very welcome and provided snacks hot drinks and gave lots of talks and information about the northern lights. Would highly recommend the tour to anyone looking to see the northern lights.
Despite the freezing cold temperatures, we had a fantastic evening and the Northern Lights gave us a dazzling display! We were lucky to witness the lights across the sky within a short time, but we were driven to a few further locations to witness them again (as well as having hot drinks, biscuits & toasted marshmallows!) Stina and her partner (can't remember his name so apologies) were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a great time. Excellent experience and I recommend the minibus tour with Polar Adventures.
We had a wonderful experience with Polar Adventures. We didn't manage to see the aurora on our first night, but they gave us a discount for a second trip with them and it was amazing. Stina and Socrates were friendly and helpful and they knew all the cool spots for aurora watching. Thank you for a magical experience!
Brilliant. Excellent driver and guide. Great fun and very informative. And we were so lucky seeing the most fantastic Auroras not too far from Tromso.
Vanessa was a great tour guide. She went out of her way to make sure we had a good time. Her knowledge and expertise was brilliant and she made the whole trip fun and entertaining. We saw the Northern Lights which was amazing, even though there was a lot of cloud at first, the sky did eventually open up enough. Such a magical and unforgettable experience. My only gripe was the 'snacks' offered were minimal and not quite what we were expecting. A few jaffa cakes and cookies. The hot chocolate is weak and very sugary, but a hot drink of any kind is very welcome in the cold. My advice is to take your own snacks as you do spend most of the time in the minibus travelling. We couldn't stop in one area because there were too many other tour buses already there. It's just small pull-in areas off the main road. Saying all that, we did eventually find a spot to stop, even though it wasn't a planned stop and we did manage to see the Northern Lights there. I would recommend this trip because we did see the Lights. I'm think I would have felt very disappointed if we hadn't seen anything.
Great experience, especially thanks to the wonderful guide Joanna. We got to see the light and also the bonfire was really suggestive.
Despite the rainy weather our tour guide Hans Eric took us to different locations to chase the northern lights and in our 2nd spot we were able see some good aurora. Huide Hans Eric was really knowledgeable and entertaining. we had a very memorable and fun time with the group.
Such an incredible experience! I had very low expectations due to the bad weather conditions but the guides drove us for hours and we got very lucky!!! Thank you for such an incredible night :) I recommend 100% and would come back.
We got super lucky tonight, we saw the northern lights dancing which is apparently quite rare! We weren’t hopeful at the beginning due to weather conditions, however we had an amazing night! A huge thank you to our kind expert tour guides for educating us about norway and the northern lights, they really know what they’re doing! 100% recommend this tour group :)
We were very blessed on our tour and had repeated and various displays of the Northern Lights at our various stops. We were well cared for with hot drinks, cookies and at the last stop, s’mores we toasted by a campfire. We also appreciated being dropped off at our accommodation at the end of the tour.
Thank you Polar Adventures for the amazing experience .Even though the weather was not good ,the guides were extremely knowledgeable about the weather and locations on where and when to spot the Northern lights and extremely passionate . We managed to see the lights in three different places in the same night .Highly recommend Polar Adventures to anyone wishing to chase and view the Northern lights in Tromso.
I booked this for my first night of hunting the lights, and I booked it at a huge bargain - it was approximately 40% cheaper than most of the other companies. The 3 tour guides - Jasmine and team - were nice and friendly, but I just can't help feeling how inexperienced they are at managing tour groups. Almost all of us are here on a bucket list mission to see the lights but I felt like the guides just didn't consider this. Our first obstacle happened when we drove into an "unplanned road works". I am not doubting the information of being unplanned, but I feel like the way the guides handled this were not very professional. We waited for some time (that is ok) before we turned back. The original plan was to look for elsewhere to go to wait for the lights to show up, but somehow we just stopped at a roadside (the location felt quite random and unplanned) - actually just on a side-road but still ON THE ROAD. There are several occasions of vehicles passing by, which were not only dangerous but also disruptive to our photography/videography. Then, one of the guides scouted the area and found a beach-y area that we could get to if we walked down a slope of tall grass. Despite one of the guides expressing concerns over safety as the slope was rather steep, the main guide - Jasmine - was still fixated on getting there instead of just finding another safer and perhaps better location. This really left a very bad impression for me. After trying out other companies, I just feel like the 3 guides we had barely made up for the efforts made by other tours with fewer guides. My last straw for such unsatisfactory review was that - the photos we happily posed for and took - they are NOT free!! We were told there will be 2 free photos... turns out they are some sub-standard scenery photos that were taken on that day... and nothing personalised! Everything else is an extra cost (iirc its 100NOK to download each photo). TLDR: huge discount yes, but not worth the experience at all... Just pay more for a better bucket list experience!
We had a great aurora activity in a cloudless night despite a kp of just 3. The location was well chosen and the service was good- hot chocolate, bonfire, and a committed guide. However, I didn’t feel that I was joining a top provider. The tourists were taking pics with their cells, no one brought a tripod, and the guide wasn’t too interested in helping with my photography needs- he was more into taking his own pics, which were mostly for sale. His pics, however, had a low resolution. Mine, doing this for the first time, were much better. Next time I will join a photography tour.
October 8 ...it was amazing trip to see the aurora borealis with Andreas Danielsen ( Hello Tromso) we enjoyed it very much. He gave every effort to shoot the best picture for all of us, at the same time never neglecting the safety of everyone on the rocky grounds. He would run to give assistance/ support to each when necessary.
Knowledgeable guide and making the most of a rainy night and got to see the northern lights on the way home - making an additional stop over. Hans Eric kept an eye out for the northern lights Enjoyed the hot chocolate and marshmallow with the fire.
Small group in a van. The guides did their best to find clear skies, changing the spots, but some of the stops weren't so good (just on the road, cars with lights circulating there..) you are supposed to be in the quiet nature to enjoy the lights. Uncomfortable van.
Great welcoming, caring and informative tour team. We had three stops and saw an amazing Aurora Borealis display at each site getting more and more intense through the night.
One of the best gifts I’ve given myself! The tour was really nice, well organized, informative, and overall a great experience. The only aspect that made me a bit uncomfortable was the behavior of the bus driver, Bogdan. He asked too many personal questions and continued even when I tried to avoid them. It didn’t ruin the trip, yet it affected how relaxed I felt during it.
The northern lights tour was outstanding. Jasmine was knowledgeable about the local area and took us to a great location. We had hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows which kept us warm throughout the night. What can I sat about the northern lights except they were the most amazing thing I have seen and they just kept on coming. A night I will remember for the rest of my life.
We reserved the Tour in March 2025 for 332€ On the afternoon before the tour (September 19, 2025), we asked the organizer whether the tour would take place due to the poor observation conditions of seeing the Northern Lights (totally overcast skies and a Kp index of approximately 0.33). We didn't receive a response until the morning of the tour: Everything will be fine and we are doing our best, because we know the area and yesterday we saw beautiful northern lights. Buses departed, each carrying approximately 15 - 20 participants, and drove only toward Hansnes (not Hansnes, Kilpisjarvi, Bardufoss and Sommaroy = 645km?). Complete cloud cover and not even the stars were visible! After several short stops, after about 3.5 hours, a small gap in the clouds finally appeared, and a few stars were visible - stars of the Big Dipper in the constellation Ursa Major, but no sign of the Northern Lights! We were taken to the ship around 2:00 a.m. After about 7 hours of sailing through the night: some stars of the Big Dipper, a fire in the fire bowl, hot drinks, two cookies, no Northern Lights sightings, and no professional photos for over 330 €. Conclusion: If cloudy skies are forecast and the KP-Index is is very low, it's better to save your money and cancel in time! Don't rely on the organizer's objective assessment. Once you've collected your money, you won't give it back so easily!
We had a good time in a cloudy night with lots of rain. Hans made things happen and we could barley see some baby lights very far near the Swedish border. Long ride, but our guides did the best to take us in a spot with open sky. They made a nice fire, we had marshmallows and chocolate and also warm drinks and cookies. Such a hard life to be a guide chasing auroras. Thanks
We had. Great time chasing the northern lights. The seditious take us to where the sky was clear and activities visible is commendable. After giving up, they kept their eyes pealed in hopes of finding the perfect circumstance. We hit the jackpot and found the perfect spot. Jasmine was kind enough to take pictures, but I wished they had mentioned the pictures were bought and not sent as part of the package
Hans Eric of Polar Adventures was a great guide. He patiently answered all queries. Filled the travel time with interesting information. He made all efforts to get us a great Aurora sighting. And took some great pictures with his professional camera on a tripod. The experience was superb.
Very knowledgeable guides Hans Eric and Leila made for an entertaining and informative journey. Mini-bus left around 6:30/7p and first sighting at 8:30p. What a great experience as the lights danced in the background for over an hour u tol everyone had enough! Powerful greens and purples. The team was deliberate in managing expectations as seeing the northern lights is not a given and highly unpredictable. Highly recommend this team!! An unforgettable experience and a dream come true!!
This tour was truly one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. Witnessing the aurora borealis dancing across the sky was nothing short of magical. But what made it even more special was our guide (Hans) —exceptionally attentive, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable. He didn’t just take us to the best viewing spots; he brought the entire phenomenon to life. With every stop, he shared fascinating insights into the science behind the auroras, the cultural stories surrounding them, and the rich history of the region. His passion and storytelling made the cold night feel cozy and captivating. If you're considering this tour, don’t hesitate. It’s not just about seeing the lights—it’s about understanding them, feeling them, and being guided by someone who truly loves what he does.
It was a wonderful! Very happy with the trip and the experience. Very kind enough to drop.us off at our hotel as it was late
Guide Sokratis is an excellent guide and determined to show us Northern Lights which we succeeded. It made our flight to Tromso worthy. Van operator Laila was also very good.
Great trip! Fast customer service. Friendly guide. Amazing group. Can’t describe how perfect this trip is. If you’re looking for reliable and trustworthy agency, go for polar adventures. They’re professional and fun!
