Northern Lights Adventure With Greenlander, 8 People Max

This was the adventure of a lifetime. Not just because our guide drove us hours into the Norwegian and Finnish countryside to see the most amazing lights (after what had been a totally overcast, rainy, and windy day), but also because he was so committed, friendly, and knowledgeable. And then there was the little campfire with goodies as we sat under the stars and dancing lights. What a wonderful memory, and an awesome tour company that made it so possible.

Tour guide Kevin Malcolm is a true rockstar. We will eternally be grateful for having been assigned to his van for our NL tour last night. We left Tromso City at 540pm, with not a lot of hope in our hearts. It had been raining nonstop, visibility was poor, the night before already saw a spectacular show, further dashing any hope we had left for some good views tonight. But Kevin Malcolm came armed with steady hands, quick judgment and fast thinking. In a short number of hours, he drove us away from rainy Tromso into the most unbelievable clear patch land with no cloud in sight. Within 10 mins of us arriving, the NL starting dancing all around us. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, one that would not have happened without Kevin's amazing understanding of tactical position and premonition. We had very nice conversations the entire journey, he drove so well, and basically took care of the entire group from start to finish. We had food, warm drinks, he was so attentive and considerate, and despite the long drive and unbelievable cold, he never showed any sign of fatigue or indifference. I give him 20 out of 10 stars. Thank you Kevin for this most unbelievable experience!

We had an amazing Northern Lights tour in the last week of October! Our guide, Kevin, was fantastic – very professional, friendly and dedicated. He patiently waited until midnight to make sure we had the best chance of seeing the aurora, and it was absolutely worth it! The tour was in a comfortable mini van with just 8 people, which made the experience feel personal and enjoyable. Kevin is also a professional photographer and took some absolutely stunning pictures of us with the Northern Lights. We now have beautiful memories and incredible photographs to look back on. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Kevin as your guide. His dedication really made the experience special!

We couldn't have asked for a better guide than Kevin. He constantly monitored the clouds and willingly took multiple detours, driving to several different spots until we finally caught a stunning, dancing aurora.

This was the best experience! My small group was friendly and kind, and our guide Kevin was funny and knowledgeable. The pickup spot was an easy walk, and I appreciated the hotel drop-off after a late return. Kevin was prepared with any additional items we might need to keep warm, a delicious hot soup, hot chocolate, and marshmallows to roast under the stars with some cookies. He was willing to take as many photos of you as you wanted under the auroras, as well as the auroras themselves, and the photos were emailed to us within hours after drop-off. It was an unforgettable experience and worth every dollar! I would absolutely do this again.

Amazing experience with Hans. We drove for 2 hours and saw the most amazing light show. He gave us a lot of great information on the auroras and details on how he was scouting locations (and found the most amazing secluded spot). We also had a nice campfire and grilled hotdogs and he had prepared tea, coffees cookies. Hans took amazing pictures of the lights and portraits of us that was sent to us next day. Highly recommend booking this experience.

My husband and I joined Greenlander for back to back northern lights trips in October 2026 with Kevin being our guide both nights. Booking was easy and information provided was complete. They provide thermal suits and boots if you need them. Kevin took us to quiet places with no other people. He was knowledgeable in camera set up and was happy to help everyone. While northern lights are a part of nature, you never know what you might get. We went in with little expectations but high hope. We got beautiful shows both nights. Since my husband and I do a lot of photography, we are always nervous about being rushed on group trips. But never once did we feel like we had to cut things short. Kevin did a great job accommodating those who wanted to sit around the campfire and talk as well as those who wanted to take all the pictures and soak up all things Norway, Finland and Northern Lights. Overall an amazing experience. Inclusive, safe and fun evenings. Extremely highly recommended!!

What an absolutely magical night in Tromsø! 🌌💚💜 A huge thank you to Kevin from Greenlander for making our Northern Lights adventure such an unforgettable experience! Kevin is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and experienced. What impressed me most was his ability to interpret the weather and aurora forecasts, knowing exactly where to take us and when to expect the best viewing conditions. Even with the constantly changing Arctic weather, Kevin confidently guided us to a fantastic location. Within about an hour, we were rewarded with a breathtaking display of the Northern Lights, with beautiful shades of green and hints of pink and purple dancing across the sky! It wasn’t simply luck. Kevin’s expertise, careful planning and understanding of the local conditions made all the difference. Kevin is the best! He drove us into one of most scenic fjords and even though it started to rain initially, the night kept getting better and better later on. We caught some beautiful dancing aurora multiple times and also during our way back. Kevin is a super friendly guy and just is the best at what he does. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in northern lights.

Honestly, myself & my wife have done alot of travel to alot of interesting places and this experience might just be the top of the list! Kevin (our guide) is unbelievable. The weather in Tromsø has been bang-average; and not for one moment did he appear worried that we weren't going to have the most amazing night... and he was 100% right. He was so informative, so willing to share all his insights and show us all his gear that he uses to work out where to take us. After ~2.5 hours of driving towards the Finland border (which he told us was on the cards) he pulled over to this spot. There was nothing there... side of the road, a lake and a small clearing where he confidently told us 'I don't usually stop here, I'd rather keep driving but I think with the weather... this is our best shot to come here and be patient'. Within ~30min we were in awe! We had the most unbelievable show that just went on and on and on... and Kevin's photo's are amazing btw! After our necks were saw from looking up so much we set up camp with a fire and some food and drinks before making the drive back to Tromsø. Honestly, we could have just driven straight back, had a snooze in the mini-van and been completely content... but Kevin had other ideas. We made 3 stops on the way back with each stop being more incredible than the next. The lights just kept coming and he kept spotting them... We were late coming back but no-one cared. Kevin made the experience so incredible for us! It's an absolute life highlight and cannot recommend enough. We got up to have breakfast the next morning at ~9am and sitting in my inbox was our photos from the trip! And they're amazing! My biggest piece of advice would be not only booking with these guys... 100 times out of 100, do not book a tour on a big bus. You absolutely cannot get the experience, the flexibility and speed that Kevin and Greenlander were able to deliver and give us. 🙏

We were never rushed and his expertise meant it didn’t take long to find Aurora. His focus and attention to detail on the skies meant we got to see the lights dance and an aurora corona. If you’re trying to decide which company to book for your Northern Lights tour - look no further and just book Greenlander (I booked tours with 4 different companies so have some comparison). Markus was phenomenal from start to finish. The small group atmosphere really makes a difference. Markus loves what he does and truly enjoys spending time with his groups. It was an incredible experience seeing the lights for the first time, but I can honestly say that even if we hadn’t had a good showing, the evening was incredibly fun and memorable on its own. The photographs of the evening, including landscape and portraits, are beautiful. Thank you, Greenlander, for a night to remember!

We had an incredible tour with Greenlander and I highly recommend them!! Our guide, Hans, was expert in finding clear skies. He was so friendly and knowledgeable and had great stories to tell. We saw the northern lights dancing (an expansion) and it was magical. We will remember this night for a long time!

Markus is a very nice guy, very responsive since the beggining, he did not measure efforts to delivery the best experience for us to see the lights. His communications skills made our experience amazing. If you are looking for someone to experience the lights for the first time, this is the place to go. I'm pretty sure Greenlander will provide you the best experience in Tromso. If some day I return to Tromso definitely will repeat the experience with them.

We were a party of 3, one couple and a single person. The experience overall was amazing. Our driver, Markus, showed up exactly on time, gave us a brief orientation, and started off. In our case we drove only about an hour to the place he'd chosen which he said was one of the places that was predicted to clear up, as it'd been a cloudy day. We ended up on a little area near the shore and had some great aurora activity even with a full moon. We never felt rushed to leave, and the activity lasted almost 3 hours. We had a fire, warm drinks, and even sausage with a potato wrap, toasted over the fire. I would definitely choose Greenlander again if I wanted to come back.

We really enjoyed our Northern Lights chase with Markus! The conditions were definitely not great (cloudy, full moon, low Kp), so we were a bit skeptical. However, we ended up setting up camp about 90 minutes from Tromsø, and we were rewarded with a beautiful display in the sky! Markus has ~13 years of experience with Northern Lights chase tours and was clearly knowledgeable and passionate. We enjoyed sausages (including vegetarian ones!), cookies, marshmallows, and warm drinks around the fire. The van was comfortable for a full group plus guide (9 people), and logistics were made very simple for us. Highly recommend!!!

Very professional outfit, our guide went to great length to find a spot were the Aurora could be seen. We drove all the way to Finland, but you can't force nature. We had a great campfire set up, with sausages, tea and hot cocoa. Everybody who requested it, got provided with thermal suits and tripods. Our guide, Arbo, was knowledgeable about everything Aurora and knew all the places to get a good viewing. Highly recommended

We went on two trips with them. On 22nd Sep and again on 24th Sep. On the first day it was raining incessantly and wouldn't stop. But, our guide Kevin just wouldnt give up. At 1 am he tracked an opening in the skies on his phone and sped us there - to the most amazing spectacle. Amazing sightings on 24 the as well. Greenalder team lead by Markus are simply superb, responsive and always attentive to all your needs. Would love to do this again with them if we are inTromso ever agaon

What a memorable first day in Norway. Arbo was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. Luck was with us and we saw the Northern Lights!!! The evening was joyful and we concluded with hot dogs, tea, and cookies by a campfire, thoughtfully prepared by Arbo!!! Highly recommended. The small group size was perfect and he drove us back to our hotel at the end of the night. Thank you! We will never forget it!

Excellent services offered by Greenlander. Right from the time we started planning our trip to Tromso. Initially communicated with Markus, who provided the information needed. Later, during the trip, it was Kevin, our guide, who is very patient, knoweledgeable and more enthusiastic, shall I say, than the tourists! Amazing person who took all the pains to navigate and beat the unpredictable weather to find a sweet spot to observe Aurora Borealis as it unfolded right in front of our eyes. A trully amazing sight. It is a once in life experience for people not from this part of planet, a worthwhile adventure... Greelander is a definite YES for those seeking small group experience. They provide outer thermal clothing and winter shoes, refreshments and beverages with a camp fire. Most importantly, the guides, like Kevin, in our case, are truly outstanding. We had the best time on this trip. It was very cloudy to the East, West, North, and South the night we went and Arbo did an amazing job finding a spot for us to see the northern lights for a bit. While Mother Nature didn't work in our favor that night, we had the best time seeing what we could and enjoying the company we were in. Arbo was the perfect tour guide. He was knowledgeable, very friendly, but also knew the right moments to enjoy the quiet so we could take in the experience. We laughed around the campfire and he was such a gracious host. He also educated us with tips and tricks to seeing the northern lights. That allowed us to see them better on our own the next night when we weren't on the tour. I wished we had been on the tour the next night to get the pictures he took too. His photography is spectacular!

What a night to remember! After six days of touring Norway without a single glimpse of the Northern Lights, we were starting to lose hope—but then we met Markus. He was such a wonderful and proactive guide; he actually reached out early to see if we could move our 7 p.m. start time up to 6 p.m. because he had a lead on the lights. We happily swapped our dinner plans for the adventure, and it was the best decision we made! Markus drove us through a snowstorm all the way to Finland, and just as we arrived, the snow vanished and the sky opened up. It felt like the lights were waiting just for us! The display was spectacular and stunning. Markus used his expert knowledge to find a secluded spot far away from the crowds, giving us a perfectly dark, clear sky to witness the magic. We captured some great shots ourselves, and Markus was kind enough to share his professional photos with us, too. We couldn't have asked for a better experience or a more fantastic guide!

Markus was our guide, photographer and driver besides being a very nice person! Our group had a wonderful time on our drive from Tromso, Norway to Iittosuvanto, Finland to find clear skies where we could see the spectacular Aurora Borealis display. It did not disappoint and we were completely satisfied with the experience and Markus' ability to find the perfect spot to view this amazing phenomenon.

It was cloudy, overcast night in Alta as we started out on our Northern Lights Adventure with Greenlander. As we drove, the weather got worse, and soon we were driving through a driving snow storm. It looked hopeless. There was no way we would see the Northern Lights tonight. But our driver and guide, Markus, remained optimistic. He was not to be deterred. Suddenly, somewhere past the Finland border, the snow slowed and then stopped. The sky cleared. And magically, the Northern Lights appeared. Our guide Markus had been doing this for 13 years, but his excitement was like a kid at Christmas. He set up his tripod and took lots of pictures, as did we. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you, Markus and Greenlander, for making it happen!

We had the absolute best experience with Arbo! He was amazing and his excitement was contagious. We trusted him and the data he had. He was extremely knowledgeable and it paid off. This was our first experience and it set a high bar for future experiences.

We have been to three other countries, chasing the northern lights but have not seen them. We flew specifically to Tromso hoping to see the northern lights and we were not disappointed! Arbo found the best spot and we were able to take many pictures. This trip made our dream come true. The best pictures we have though are the ones Atbo (who is also a professional photographer) took which we will treasure. The hot dinner he made following building a campfire was unexpected but so pleasant to enjoy as the temperature was cold. We highly recommend this excursion.

Our tour with Hans from Greenlander was unbeatable. We are so grateful for his professionalism and his genuine warmth. Hans is truly passionate about chasing the Northern Lights; he went above and beyond to find clear skies, ensuring we could witness such a breathtaking spectacle. The scientific explanation he gave us on how the auroras are formed allowed us to appreciate and enjoy the lights on a much deeper level. Moreover, Hans was kind enough to capture my marriage proposal. He took care of everything, allowing me to stay in the moment, and the results couldn't have been more perfect. Without a doubt, every time I return to Tromsø, I will be booking with Hans from Greenlander again.

We booked this tour about two months before we came to Tromso. We picked Greenlander for two reasons. One: Small group size (there were 8 of us with our guide/driver, Markus). This meant we'd likely be quicker and more agile than larger tours. And Two: reviews suggested Greenlander would (seemingly literally) go the the ends of the Earth to find you auroras. Their success rate is very high, and they didn't seem to be worried about being out late if required. These two reasons really played out on our night. In Tromso, where we were picked up, it was overcast and raining and it didn't feel to us that our chances would be good. Markus poured over all sorts of satellite data and came to the conclusion that if we headed north for a while, we 'might' break into areas with some auroral views. After a lot of driving and a couple stops that didn't yield much, we found a third spot where the clouds broke again, and we had some very nice views. What happened then over the next 30-60 minutes was (to us) nothing short of a miracle. The skies parted, and the northern lights put on a show unlike anything we'd ever seen before. Coming and going, in different directions, there were times when you almost didn't know which way to look! It even started to shine directly above us. After a while, Markus built a small fire, busted out some chairs, and served tea and hot chocolate to anyone who wanted it. He also had hot water and served some freeze-dried camp food that was very tasty. All the while with Auroras constantly distracting us from our seats to keep looking up. Eventually we packed up and were dropped off at our hotel around 1:30AM. It is worth pointing out just what a pleasure it was to be led by such a nice, generous, and competent person in Markus. We did not think we'd see anything standing in the rain in Tromso, but ultimately we were treated to a night we will never forget. His energy was infectious, bouncing around the area in order to take pictures -- which he shared with us later. Auroral photography is another skill Markus has mastered. Simply put, if you are in Tromso and want to go on a Aurora tour, look no further than Greenlander! Obviously I can not guarantee that you will have a night like we did, but I guarantee that Markus and his team will do everything they can to give you the best chance at having that once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We went on a Northern Lights tour with Greenlander for my birthday a few weeks ago. Although it was a cloudy night and we didn’t get to see too much Northern Lights action, our tour guide Hans truly tried his best to give us the best experience possible. He drove us almost to Sweden trying to find a clearer sky- he truly could not have done anything more. We loved hearing his camping stories around the camp fire, and the photos we received from him the next morning were a great memory of the night!

We had a great tour and saw the northen lights three different times during the night. Our tour guide Arbo was very nice and very good at finding the perfect spots for aurora watching. He also took great pictures that he has shared with us. The tour itself is a bit expensive but totally worth it for a lifetime experience. It was our dream to see the northen lights so we decided on this tour for its great reviews and small groups. Being on a small group meant we had more flexibility and we could easily stop wherever was best to see the lights. I totally recommend this tour, it was worth it and Arbo made our dreams come true!

We had such an incredible experience on this aurora chasing tour with Markus. The sky was completely cloudy in Trømso, and it didn’t look promising at all but Markus drove us almost 2.5 hours inland, all the way into Finland, to find clear skies. And it worked. Seeing the Northern Lights was absolutely magical! Even though Markus has seen the aurora many times, his excitement felt so genuine: almost like he was experiencing it for the first time. That made everything feel very real, and we really appreciated that energy. Highly recommend this tour: not just for the lights, but for the atmosphere and the person behind it!

Marcus, our driver for Greenlander, was nothing short of amazing. He contacted us to go earlier in anticipation of the northern lights timing and drove us over 2¼ hours & 240 miles into Finland quickly, but safetly, through a driving snow storm. We were able to not only see & photograph multiple arrays of lights, but Marcus also photographed our group and each couple individually with the lights in the background, as well as taking his own photographs of the lights ALL of which he shared with the entire party who came with him. Marcus is an obviously experienced and knowledgeable tour drivier, explained much about the northern lights, Tromso and the surrounding area as well as life in Norway. After our 6½ hour search, we got to see the northern lights and we made a new friend!

You may have to drive a bit to find a clear sky but Marcus, our guide, knew exactly where to go and it was well worth the trip.

Greenlander is a top-notch experience provider! Over three nights, we got to meet each of their lead guides who worked so hard to find clear skies so that we could see the Northern Lights. And, each night, they found them and then some. Incredible. There was no effort spared. And the campfire with snacks and warm drinks was also a nice part of the experience. We set off from Tromsø around 17:30, full of anticipation, heading deep into Finland in search of clear skies. On paper, the conditions looked promising… but nature had other plans. For a while, it seemed like the aurora might not show up at all. Spirits dipped a little, but not Markus. And that’s where the magic of this tour truly revealed itself. Markus, the owner and our guide, simply refused to give up. He kept driving, checking conditions, adjusting plans, always chasing that perfect window. You could feel his commitment: this wasn’t just a job, it was a mission. And then… the grand finale. Out of nowhere, the sky came alive. A beautiful aurora above us - soft, elegant and absolutely unforgettable. The kind of moment that makes the long chase worth every second. We had almost given up hope… but Markus never did. We finally returned to Tromsø after 02:00, tired but buzzing with joy from what we had just experienced. And the cherry on top! By the time we woke up the next morning, Markus had already shared stunning photos from the tour, ready to download and relive the magic. This wasn’t just a Northern Lights tour. It was an adventure, a story, and a memory we’ll carry with us for a long time. Highly recommended, especially if you want guides who truly care about making it happen.

Arbo from Greenlander has been fantastic. He picked up the group on time as per instructions in the company email, gave us some basic information before the tour and we headed out to chase Aurora. He knew exactly where to go, he was checking the weather and forecast for Northern Lights on the way. He took pictures with us and Aurora, shared more knowledge during the campfire and then the show started......it was just beautiful. Thank you for everything Ardo. I would definitely come on another trip with you.

we saw amazing northern lights, got very well shot photos, a very cool fireside dinner - the food couldve been a bit better if we're being picky otherwise everything was smooth Peter was our guide, he was full of information and energy, very helpful - made sure we all got photos we were satisfied with so we didnt have to spend a lot of time trying to get that done ourselves so we had a lot more time to enjoy the lights
