Itinerary
am Marianne and both my guides and I are Professional Photographers, my family and I, have lived and worked this land, since the early 1700's . My self and my guides would love to share this beautiful landscape that we call "Heaven On Earth" with you. Listen to ancient folklore stories about this area. Spectacular breath taking scenery. Jaw dropping fjords, will almost make you speechless. You can look forever; but we will take you directly to where the real action is. In winter we have days when the sun does not rise above the horizon from 28th of November to the 15th of January known as a blue day White tailed sea and golden eagles all join in on the free bonanza of fish that are attracted by the warm water's of the gulf stream. Reindeer can be seen scraping the snow covered tundra, as they move around in search of food. Seals, Otters, stoat's and foxes can show up at any time any where. Just remember that it’s wild animals and we can’t guarantee it.

The 4 of us booked the Scenic Fjord, Wildlife & Photography tour with Marianne. One other couple also toured with us. Marianne’s van was very comfortable and it was easy to see out the windows. We stopped at numerous vistas to take pictures of the gorgeous scenery and at most every stop, Marianne both offered advice on how to take more interesting pictures and taught us how to use many of the features our phone cameras offered that we had not known about. We were also lucky to encounter some reindeer just wandering by. Being born and raised in a local village, Marianne really knows her stuff! And almost as important, Marianne served us the best hot chocolate ever and the cookies were mighty good too! We were so glad to have hired Marianne as our small group tour guide and highly recommend her services!
I cannot recommend this tour enough. I was alone, so I had private tour with no extra charge. Marianne is a wonderful guide, very friendly with excellent knowledge of the area. She is an excellent driver and photographer. She share great tips about photography, camera... We stopped at many places. There was enough time to take photos and enjoy the beauty of nature. Four hours were extended by an hour and a half. Tusen takk Marianne, to show your garden of Eden. Til next time.
Marianne was great, the tour blew my mind, we kept stopping in magnificent views and landscapes. She taught me more on photography that I could apply still in the tour. Highly recommended, it’s been an amazing experience.
If you're visiting Tromsø and want to see places that most tourists never get to, I highly recommend Heaven on Earth Tours with Marianne. From the moment she picked us up from our hotel on the Tromso waterfront, it felt like spending the day with a local friend rather than being on a tour. Although it was advertised as a 4-hour tour to Kvaloya , we were out for about 4½ hours because Marianne never rushed us. We stopped whenever there was a beautiful view, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. It was just the two of us on the tour, yet there was no extra charge, and it felt like having our own private guide. She took us to some incredible off-the-beaten-path locations, including traditional fishermen's huts with living grass roofs, stunning pristine beaches, and beautiful Grøtfjord, where we even picked wild berries. One of my favourite moments was standing by a quiet fjord where the only sounds were a distant bird and the gentle wind creating ripples on the water. Coming from the busy life in the UK, the peace and stillness were unforgettable. We even had an entire beach to ourselves. Marianne took us to Tromvik the village where she said she spent her early childhood. That was a unique place, and we met some reindeer in the village where we could see them upclose without any restriction. Marianne is an expert in photography and was happy to share tips on how to capture the best shots. She was always willing to take photos of us, so we came home with many wonderful memories. A special mention also goes to her lovely dog, Kara, who came along for the tour. She was incredibly well-behaved and happily posed for photos with us as if she had done it all her life! This was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Tromsø. If you’re looking for a relaxed, personalised tour that takes you off the beaten path and showcases the true beauty of the area beyond the typical day trip, I highly recommend booking with Marianne. You won’t regret it!
Touring with Marianne was an amazing experience! Beautiful scenery, great company, relaxed, friendly, flexible atmosphere. Great photography tips with gorgeous results. Furthermore, Marianne has a very helpful and kind, solution driven attitude. A day to remember with the pictures to prove it. Highly recommend this tour!
Whilst in Tromso, we went on two tours that were both supposed to be for photographers. One of them just drove us round the typical car park vantage points but the trip with Marianne was quite different: It was clearly designed by a highly experienced local photographer to take us to places where we could do some serious landscape photography and not just a few typical tourist pics. We finished the day quite elated to have explored some really wild scenery and been able to take so many fantastic pictures or some really special places.
We went on this half day tour and were lucky enough to be the only 2 in the group. The tour took us through the fjords and we had plenty of photo opportunities as we stopped plenty along the way. Our guide Marianne was very friendly and knowledgeable and answered all the questions we put to her as she has extensive knowledge of the area. We had hot chocolate and cookies and took some stunning photos of the local scenery. It’s essential to wear warm clothing on this tour and take a snack. Can thoroughly recommend this tour.
We had an exraordinary day with Marianne, showing us this beautiful part of the earth. The small village where she grew up seemed like the end of the world to us. These landscapes are a dream, and Marianne brought this paradise closer to us with great passion and wonderful stories. She was a wonderful driver and host. Thank you very much for this day and we hope that you will have time to be our guide whenever we come back.
Operator never responded to text messages regarding adverse weather conditions with snow falling & icy conditions. Operator refused to refund cost of trip. Viator didn’t support customer but bowed to operator. Last trip with Viator
It was supposed to rain all day, and to no shock, it did. Our guide was a tad late, but communicated and let us know her ETA. Upon arrive, Marianne came out, greeted us and got us to the car and off we went. Marianne is very passionate about this location as she grew up in the area and is well versed in all there is to know and see here. Marianne is also very passionate about photography and offered several tips/tricks on the iPhone (due to rain, camera of choice) of which I will remember and have already used since that tour! Nature being nature, the wildlife was hunkered down out of the rain so no views for us, but that is what nature does, so all the effort she applied to get us to see some reindeer was appreciated. The landscaping did not disappoint and the photo's we got and history made the trip money well spent. I cannot recommend this company enough and make sure you ask for Marianne!
I had the pleasure of joining Marianne for the Wildlife & Scenic Tour, and it was truly a 5-star experience. I was lucky to be the only guest that day, which gave us the flexibility to arrange the start time and pickup in a very convenient way. Marianne is a wonderful guide – warm-hearted, attentive, and with excellent local knowledge. She knows the best scenic spots and shared great tips for handling the camera, so I could capture beautiful photos to share with friends and family back home. We were blessed with perfect weather, picked berries, enjoyed a small picnic lunch outdoors, and I even got to see reindeers along the way! One of the highlights was a stop at a local supermarket that smokes its own salmon – such a tasty experience. At the end of the tour, Marianne kindly dropped me directly at the bus for my onward journey through Norway. This day was unforgettable, thanks to Marianne’s expertise, flexibility, and warm personality. I can recommend this tour 100% to anyone visiting Tromsø – it’s an experience not to be missed!
Took the Half Day Scenic Wildlife and Photographic Fjord Tour with Marianne. Really enjoyed the tour despite the poor weather on the day. Marianne took a lot of time to tell us about the area and her knowledge of living there. Highlights were seeing reindeer, mountain road with huge snowdrifts, beaches, cafe with beautiful views in Tromvik and the mountains. Plenty of time to stop and take photos. Highly recommended
We spent a few days around Norway, with the first four days in Tromsø. This was the first activity of our very first day and it was beyond amazing. Stig gave us a wonderful introduction to the area with lovely landscapes and tons of interesting information. His wealth of knowledge about, really everything, coupled with his sense of humor and great storytelling truly made this tour memorable. We did other tours during our trip and they were all great because Norway is great, but none had the personal vibe of this one. The small size of the tour, and again, Stig, made it feel like a friend was showing you around, as opposed to a guide. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour and this business.
Marianne is a skilled photographer who showed us how to elevate our photos (whether using a DSLR or phone). She knew some of the most scenic spots. She is a 3rd generation resident of this community, so her insights were on target. (We took another daytime tour, but not with a native. It was far inferior.) The reduction from 5 stars to 4 stars is because she was too interested in taking her own photos rather than focusing exclusively on the clients--my wife, myself, and another woman. Her daughter called during the tour so she walked away to take the call. Her small Subaru was functional but not luxurious. She was on time for pick-up, but the location was not clear on the website--all 3 of us were walking in circles. She could have solved it by saying in front of X store.
Marianne the guide is amazing Ill always remember her. So spontaneous and provided plenty intos including the photography settings
Our guide was very sweet and caring. He was eager to please. It was a good tour, but not exactly as expected. The website mentions hearing "ancient folklore stories" and seeing wildlife. Our guide did point out some reindeer, but clearly could not identify the local flora or fauna. Nor did he seem to know what a troll was. There were no stories. The tour description needs to be rewritten.
This was a fantastic experience. We were keen to see something of the surrounding fjord area and were recommended this tour by the tourist office representative that visited the hotel. In fact as it turned out there were just three of us on the tour, expertly driven and guided by our driver Freddie. It was a real privilege to spend time in his company - imparting stories from his childhood as well as providing insight and commentary that only someone who was local to the fjord area could. No question was too trivial and he was happy to stop wherever we wanted as long as it was safe. Given the snow covered conditions, we were treated to some impressive views but also left feeling we had a much better understanding of the fjord settlement culture both present and past. When we returned to Tromso we felt very much as if we had been on a day trip with a friend rather than an organised tour. If you are the sort of person who likes scenery and would like to see a different part of the Tromso region - or just leave teh commercialisation of activity tours behind - then we can recommend this trip more highly
An excellent way to find good spots for landscape & wildlife with an experienced photographer. The weather has a significant impact on the chances of really good images so this should be borne in mind when booking.
I joined Marianne’s half day wildlife tour with my 76 year old Mum after doing a northern lights tour the day before. Tromso was hit with quite bad weather (yellow wind warnings) so our planned morning up the cable car wasn’t able to go ahead. I’m so pleased we did this activity, despite being very windy and very cold it was awesome seeing the countryside, mountains, stunning scenery. We saw a couple of wild reindeer and an eagle 😍, and quite a few Trolls in the rocks too! We were picked up at 9am and back in Tromso at 2pm. Lots of stops to take in the spectacular scenery, great advice given on camera set up, and great advice for taking excellent photos on my IPhone. Marianne is very knowledgeable, not just about photography, but also about the area which she obviously loves, she is very passionate about her tours and truly wants everyone to make the most of their time in Tromso. A toilet stop, hot drinks, sandwiches, buiscuits and chocolates all provided which were very welcomed . Another great activity with Marianne , I highly recommend
Great tour! We went to many amazing spots for photos. Got the chance to see reindeer and stratospheric clouds. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Would take a tour with this company again!
A wonderful, genuine service with passionate photographers. I actually booked the wildlife tour first, which was OK but we didn't see much in terms of wildlife, though we did have bad weather that day as there were storms across the whole region. I added on an Aurora tour at the last minute when we realised there was a strong solar signal coming that night and that was amazing. We did get a gorgeous cafe stop and they took us to so many places trying to get a clear weather spot. Lovely staff but do read my review on their Aurora tour.
Brilliant day out, scenery was great as was the photo tips on using your phone/ camera. Local guide who grew up locally and really shared her knowledge of the area. Small group in a mini bus so could go to and park where bigger coaches couldn't. Would recommend!
The highlight of our tour was our guide Marianne! Her direct no-nonsense style made it first hard to figure what she was like. But after a little time with her we found her very interesting and engaging, a good storyteller and someone we could trust to give her best effort to make our tour a good experience. She was funny and had a good sense of humor and we had many good laughs together. Being a passionate photographer herself she knew exactly where to steer us to get magnificent as well as unusual photos. Being seniors that needed a little help, we appreciated her helping hand to move safely through the slippery snow and ice. This was easily the most enjoyable tour we had on our 17-day vacation.
Marianne and George are true guides. Do not expect pre-packaged nice comments for tourists with them. Marianne really will bring you in her place. It seems she knew every stone on the road. And they are photographers. A lot of good advices (we are just beginners), suggestions on different points of view to catch. The weather was bad, wildlife difficult to spot. But they gave us an extraordinary day. And delicious hotdogs...
We had an amazing morning with Marianne and few more travellers to enjoy a photographic tour of the fjords with an amazing weather. She made sure we stopped in every cool place and gave us a lot of photography tips and hot chocolate and cookies. Since we were only 3 guests, the tour had a very familiar atmosphere and we got to know a bit each other. I can definitely recommend if you want to pass a relaxing morning taking landscape pictures.
The views were amazing, we took some great pictures and saw a couple of eagles and rein. We stopped many times to take pictures, along with other vans doing the same thing. Hot chocolate was pretty good.
This was our first time in Tromso. We are a family of four from the UK and were very excited to do this tour. The reviews were good and the Marianne's website made it sound amazing. Unfortunately, it was not a good trip all round for us. We had just landed the night before and got up early to the meeting point. It was snowing and pretty cold. We met the other people on the tour so seven of us in total. No guide arrived and so my husband contacted Marianne. We were told the start time had changed, Marianne was unwell and a driver was on his way. She had not bothered to tell us all this before we messaged her. We had all been standing outside for nearly an hour by the time the driver finally arrived at the meeting point. He did his best and drove us around, but his skill set was obviously different to Marianne's. So there were no folklore tales, no wildlife information and no photography assistance. We travel a fair amount and understand the weather is often not ideal. It was snowing/raining at times and so the visibility was poor. Most other tours have contingency plans if the weather is not conducive - they proactively either rearrange, discount or cancel, or have places to go to accommodate the climate. Unfortunately, there was no contingency in this case. We took the time to contact Marianne to provide constructive feedback on our experience, to which she sent a very dismissive reply. She did begrudgingly offer a refund of one ticket which we decided not to take up owing to the tone of her response. It was just such a disappointing day. The driver did his best and we had a nice stop for sandwiches, biscuits and hot chocolate. But it was a very long trip sitting in in the back of a mini van trying to see the scenery through fogged up windows. Not exactly value for money. I do not like to write bad reviews but felt compelled to do because of the poor customer service that we received. The weather was unfortunate for us all on that day, but these things happen and we understand that. But it was the fact that we were left outside wondering if the tour was going to take place that day, the driver did not have the same knowledge as offered on the website, and to have no proactive acknowledgement of this, we felt was rather harsh.
Many Cool spots for taking a short. The guide man is knowledgeable with lot of experience. Wishing myself to come back again
We had another great time with Marianne in this experience, a lot of good spots in the fjords. Very professional, we had many stops to take some pictures. I recommend
I was excited for this tour as many people rated it highly for its authentic and local touch. The group size was small (only 6 people) which was nice and the views at each stop were amazing. However, the tour itself was unfortunately a disappointment. The guide was 15 minutes late and did not call to let us know. Also, while he was very nice, he provided almost no information on the area and only really spoke when asked. He also spoke so softly that only the person in the front seat could really hear. The snacks provided were also just powdered hot chocolate, store bought cookies, and some candy. We ate it in an icy parking lot with no view and really just wished we would have moved on because we missed valuable light. Overall, we wished we would have just rented a car ourselves and drove around the island. We could have seen all the exact same spots as they are just pulls off on the side of the road. This tour was quite expensive for what it actually was.
We did the tour in December 2023 and the views were just mesmerizing. Marianne was an incredible guide and she made us have a fantastic time. She helped us get the best pictures and stopped in the best views. Moreover, she provided us with some hot drinks and breakfast, and also made a stop in a supermarket for us to taste local salmon. Marianne made us be really comfortable during the tour, and she made us laugh all along it. I would 100% recommend this activity, as you get spectacular views and we had a really good time, with Marianne being an amazing guide and company.
Very knowledgeable, knows where to go, doesn't waste your time with useless spots (saw some spots on Google Maps as we were on the road and went back to visit and they sucked... Marianne knows her stuff well!!! saves your time and effort going to great locations), very personable, knows English, and just an overall nice person. When I go back, definitely going to go with her again!! Did the combo tour in one day. BONUS: she makes, hands-down bar-none, the best hot chocolate!
Going around with Marianne is incredible. She knows very nice places to get amazing photos. This is the second time that I did this with her. If you are in Tromso going around with her is grest
Marianne is so wonderful and has a big heart! I've been on her night aurora hunt tours for 7 times, and each time we've seen the aurora. Her passion and dedication also continues in her day tour. I did her day tour in late November when there are fewer hours of sunlight and it was really nice to see the places that we drove by at night, in the day where the sun is low on the horizon. It was a lovely day and the colors in the sky were beautiful, and it had just snowed so the landscape was white and the sunset colors reflected and shone brillantly on the snow. We went to Kvaløya and stopped at different spots - a fishing boat house area with scenic red and multi-color boat houses, a place with a beautiful fjord and lake in the middle of two mountains, a boat jetty place, the Tromvik village, and she also showed us the house where her mom grew up in and how people cured the cod fish that they caught in their house. She also shared stories about the area where she grew up and lived in. She also took pictures of us upon request and can share ideas on the best composition and spots for photography, as she has been in the area and knows how to be creative and bring a fresh perspective on the photos. Also, we were fortunate and saw a herd of wild reindeers on the road, and stopped to observe them eating. We also saw a small fox on the road and then it ran away. I really enjoyed the day tour with Marianne, and it was nice to photograph with her and the group at the scenic spots. I highly recommend Marianne's tour!
Embark on a captivating exploration of nature with Marianne's half-day fjord adventure blending captivating wildlife, picturesque landscapes, and excellent photographic opportunities. We went with Frederick, who was such an amazing person, a professional photographer and a local. This delightful experience unveils the secrets of nature and its wilderness with every scenic turn, accompanied by insightful information about the city's history, folk stories, and cultural nuances. A great learning opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of local culture.
Amazing small group tour with a guide who grew up in the area and knows all the best spots. Plus they go above and beyond to ensure you’re comfortable (food provided, etc.).
We had a great tour with Marianne. We actually took two fjord tours during our stay in Tromso. This tour was very different from the other tour but both were excellent. Marianne took us to a completely different part of the fjords and showed us a number of places off the main route related to her family history in the area. The hot chocolate she gave us was the best we had in Norway. We saw reindeer along the route. We had beautiful weather which greatly added to the experience.
We did this trip today and it was brilliant! Marianne was a fantastic guide. She took us to the most beautiful places and encouraged everyone to be creative with how they used their camera or phone. There were only four of us so it was easy to ask questions and Marianne was great at chatting about places and life. Being a wildlife artist I was particularly keen to see local wildlife and was able to watch and photograph an otter as it played in the water as well as see a beautiful sea Eagle fly over. A fabulous day very highly recommended. Thank you Marianne!
Marianne best person to travel with and learn about those hidden spots around Tromso. I'm coming back again and surely travelling with her on the next beautiful journey
An amazing day with a very interesting lady, who has grown up in an island close to tromso. Knowledgeable and knows all the best scenic spots for great photos and a very memorable perfect day. Cannot fault it. Thankyou Marianna. We will hopefully see you again
Very interesting tour of the island of Kvaloya on the half day. Guide invested and punctual. Language spoken: English.
I went alone to the tour and it was wonderful, the views, nature and mainly the guide, very friendly and friendly, was in no hurry and knew what he was talking about when he explained.
An absolutely magical moment. Beautiful, soothing nature. Thank you Marianne a thousand times for having made us discover your "office", for your kindness, the love of your country and your sharing. My daughter and I had an unforgettable experience. Aurélie & Christelle
A magical morning with Marianne. She introduced us to her little piece of paradise, with many exciting explanations and advice, and great kindness. An unforgettable experience and encounter. Thank you Marianne, you really have the most beautiful office in the world!
Very disappointing. We met Marianne who was very good advice. But the performance did not live up to expectations. Marianne didn't come with us. Our driver Abdi had to follow a car with a guide. Abdi made a lot of effort to make us enjoy the ride but it was the guide who had the information we did not have during the ride. This guide did not show up, sometimes did not even wait for our van. He had other dependants. He ended up answering a few questions at the scene. We made three stops on the side of the road to see fjords. We ate next to the toilet on an old school parking lot near the garbage cans without views of the fjord. The snack that was included was equally disappointing: half a slice of bread with a slice of cheese, a packet of dry biscuits in tupperware and a bag of candy. Drinks: coffee or hot chocolate. We would have liked to discover less frequented places, take the time to observe wildlife, hear the history of Norway, walk in the fjord, ... This service is not worth the €158 per person we paid despite all the kindness of our driver.
It was the other side of the coin of the half-day cruise on the fjords; it made me have the other point of view on the same places, from the ground, and completed the vision of the wonderful geography and nature; it also offered more personal comments, as the two guests, Marianne and her collaborator, are natives of those places, and have transmitted in part their feelings; I wish Them to continue to preserve all these characteristics of themselves and places, I tried to do my part. Live Long and Prosper _//
I had a super great trip with Freddy. He showed me his homeland and the stories behind it and I was able to take great photos. Anytime again
Super activitée avec george et marianne, même avec un mauvais temps on a pu trouver de supers spot, ils sont très gentils, drôles et généreux. Allez-y sans hésiter !
The tour was fantastic. Marianne is a veteran of the Norwegian landscape and nature. She gave us a competent introduction to her homeland. Her photographic tips are easy to implement and valuable. Thank you and big praise to Frederik, our driver and co-guide. Highly recommended
