Chasing Lights: Aurora Big Bus Chase (All Photos Included)

Came to see the northern lights for my 30th birthday! We got super lucky and seen super vivid northern lights dancing in the sky twice in one night! So magical and very beautiful!! Literally the best night of my life! We booked the big bus chase and it got downsized to the smaller bus, which I would 100% recommend doing if you can afford it as it allows you to stop to more isolated locations. Taylor our guide and our driver Matt were both super kind and helpful and made our experience awesome! It was honestly so amazing I can’t describe the feeling of seeing the northern lights in real life. We also saw shooting stars!! FYI: The guides can’t control how good the lights will be, just where the best place is to catch any. We went on another tour the night before and they weren’t half as good as this night. It is absolutely freezing so wear as many layers as you can. Don’t drink lots before as you go to the middle of nowhere.

Irene and Ivan were the best tour guides! Irene gave very clear expectations of the evening, great stories and snacks. We were very lucky to go on a clear night and had a wonderful experience seeing the Northern Lights. I highly recommend booking this tour!! Worth noting most tours don’t permit toddlers - this tour does and will accommodate with a car seat for the bus ride.

My family and I had the most beautiful check off our bucket list with Chasing Lights. Tromsø was completely cloudy on the day of our tour. We thought we are not going to see any northern light. However. Our tour guide( Alex) took us all the out to Finland where there were some clear sky. Alex was amazing, he picked a perfect spot. The minute we got off the bus we had sighting! Then we witnessed a dancing northern light. It was such an unforgettable experience! Even during our way back, he spotted another northern light activity and stopped the bus for us to take more pictures. I highly recommend chasing light tour!

We lucked out on the day we chose because we got AMAZING Northern Lights activity! Ivan, our driver, and Irene, our guide, were excellent hosts. You can tell Irene is passionate about what she does - her energy was magnetic. She found a beautiful spot for us to camp out at and await the lights, complete with hot drinks and a campfire, and provided us with awesome photos. This was a truly one of a kind experience and I'm really glad we went with this tour instead of the one we had originally booked. Thank you, Irene and Ivan!

We started with an awful weather in Tromso but thanks to the efforts of Marc and Soraia we managed to catch the Northern Lights right in Finland! It was an amazing experience! Marc and Soraia have made stunning photos which we are able to take for free. The whole trip was 8 hours but it was worth it! Thank you, Marc, Soraia and our driver Maciej!

We came to Tromsø in March and due to the weather we had very little hope of seeing the Northern Lights. We booked a tour for our last night and they took us 3 hours away from Tromsø, to Finland and we were able to see magnificent Aurora Borealis! We're so thankful for the experience.

What a well organised tour, with sole aim to see the aurora borealis - the brilliant guides - Ivana, Soraia, Joakin (coach driver) - they didn’t let us down. Saw two bursts over 3 hrs, which were so spectacular. Bucket list ticked too

Very well-planned northern lights tour! We went with Chasing Lights after a friend’s recommendation and we were so happy the first time that we booked a second tour (we were lucky to see the northern lights both nights!). So this is a slightly long review to thank the guides and drivers. First up was Ivana, Soraia and Joakin for our first night. They gave us an excellent introduction to the northern lights. Ivana even pointed out some wildlife that we saw along the way to the viewing point. Since there were other tours at our location, they took us down to the beach to get away from the crowds. Ivana was also incredibly kind to help me hold my elderly mum’s hand as we helped her down the steep uneven ground to the beach and back up again (there was also another guy on the tour with us who helped at the end - thank you!) Last but not least, we had Irene, Jonas and Trond for our second night. Irene and Jonas were super knowledgeable and experienced. Beyond teaching us about the northern lights, they taught us how to see the star constellations! They were also excellent photographers! Our driver was Trond, he was the friendliest and he even shared stories with us and sang a short Norwegian song. I also appreciated how Jonas got us involved in building the campfire (it was my first time lighting it!) and shared his and Irene’s expertise with those of us who still had energy left. Thank you so much to both teams at Chasing Lights! Your tours were the highlights of our trip here in tromso! I would highly recommend Chasing Lights. The Big Bus tours are especially good for families, for those travelling with children or elderly parents. If they’re tired or cold, they can rest and keep warm in the bus (there’s a toilet in the bus too). We went with the Big Bus tour since I was with my elderly mother. But I would come back and try the Small Bus tour myself next time.

I honestly don't know where to begin. I booked the Big Bus Tour with Chasing Lights Tromsø and what unfolded was one of the most magical nights of my life. Our guides Soraia and Marc didn't just drive us around, they chased the lights with real dedication. We went all the way across the bridge, through the mainland, and deep south towards Finland until we found the perfect spot under a stunning starry sky. That commitment says everything about this team. And then the aurora came, strong, vibrant, dancing in multiple colours. The "lady in green" decided to show off that night and she absolutely delivered. Soraia and Marc made the whole experience richer by sharing their knowledge about KP index, cloud patterns, aurora behaviour, and astro data in a way that was genuinely engaging, never overwhelming. Something that really touched me was how Soraia and Marc made sure every single guest had beautiful photos taken of them. No one was left out. They captured all of us in those incredible moments, with nature's own fireworks lighting up the sky above, and generously shared every photo with us afterwards. Those pictures are memories I will treasure forever. Around the bonfire, we had lovely black currant juice and cookies and I have to say, I shared a little memory with Marc: back in my school days, we used to tuck potatoes and sweet potatoes into the bonfire embers. I think it would be a wonderful idea for the team to bring some on future tours, with a pinch of arctic salt it would taste absolutely incredible out there in the snow! Just a little suggestion from the heart. 😊 Oh and on the way, we spotted a young reindeer in the snow. Completely unexpected and utterly magical. Soraia and Marc, thank you for your warmth, your passion, and for truly living up to your brand name. You don't just show people the northern lights, you give them a story to tell. 100% worth it. They drove us like 3-3.5 hours to find clear skies. And they found it and it was amazing. We were lucky it was one of the perfect nights for dancing lights. But if couldn't find that skies we would have missed it. I wish there were more stars than 5 so i can vote higher.

The Northern Lights chase with Irene was a really memorable experience. She was fantastic—knowledgeable, upbeat, and made the whole trip feel effortless even when the skies weren’t cooperating. The weather was a bit unpredictable, so we ended up driving all the way into Finland near the Swiss border, but we did get to see the lights. Nothing super intense, but still magical—and Irene took some amazing photos for us. The extras made it even better: a cozy fire pit and a walk out onto a frozen lake, which felt straight out of a postcard. The only downside was the transportation. We had booked a large bus (with a bathroom), but ended up on a smaller bus with no restroom and only one stop at a gas station. Considering the round trip was about 2–3 hours each way and the tour ran from 5 PM to around 2:30 AM, that part was definitely uncomfortable. Overall, still a great experience thanks to Irene—but just be prepared for a long ride with limited stops.

Marc and Sorai were the greatest photographers and people to do this tour. They took us all the way to find the auroras. They give us nice talking. Hot juice and cookies. And also an amazing pictures and videos. Totally recommend. The price was totally worth. The tour duration was accurate. We were many people but totally handled by our guides.

We had the best time in the tour with Marius and Soraya! They were great guides organizing everything and giving information about the northern lights. The conditions in Tromso weren’t good and we drove all the way to Finland where the chances of seeing the lights were higher and we ended up with an night full of northern light’s activity. It was amazing! We were the first tour to get to the spot with clear skies and the last one to leave (2 other tours arrive in between)… they offered cookies and drinks and even lit a fire pit! Best experience ever, defintily recommend it!

We are grateful to be able to see the Northern Light inspite of bad weather here in Tromso. the bus were pack with 50 enthusiastic people. A good and clean bus. Marius and Soraia were knowledgeable, entertaining and welcoming. They kept the hope alive.

Bus departure point is not very specific. Better meeting point instructions would be helpful. Guides were very knowledgable and enthusiastic

5 star experience, no doubt! I am an avid world traveler, and have been to multiple places. This was indeed one of the best places and excursion I have ever done. Tessa (our guide) was amazing, she has great voice and always kept it entertaining; despite my family and I being very jet lagged. They took us to the best location and see saw an amazing show. Seeing the northern lights was amazing, and even got to experience a camp fire at the end to keep us warm. Thank you Tessa for an amazing time.

Excellent guides (Nick, Zoraya) and driver , Lorenzo. Fortunately, the main purpose, seeing the Northern Lights, was Encounter achieved. The information provided was very instructive and helpful, alongside the nice and people-oriented guides.

I went for two aurora tours on this trip.. this is by far the better one. The guide Michelle was friendly and explained things clearly. He also told us to focus on live experiences instead of worrying missing photo opportunities as he will take photos of the aurora. To me this took lots of stress away. The advantage of big bus tours is also in that there were two people on the trip, the driver and the guide. The guide could focus on finding the best spot. I enjoyed the experience stress free

O guia Michiel foi ótimo: divertido, muito dedicado e passou a noite inteira tentando proporcionar a melhor experiência, mesmo em um dia com poucas chances. Deu uma verdadeira aula sobre aurora e teve muita paciência, cuidando de todos os detalhes durante a espera. No final, conseguimos ver a aurora! Também preciso destacar o motorista Brian, que dirigiu com muita segurança e foi sempre divertido e educado. Uma dupla perfeita. Excellent Northern Lights hunting experience. The guide, Michiel, was great—funny, very dedicated, and spent the entire night doing his best to give us the best possible experience, even on a day with low chances. He gave us a great lesson about the aurora, was very patient, and took care of every detail while we waited. In the end, we managed to see the aurora! The vehicle was also very comfortable, which made the long drive and waiting time much more pleasan I also want to mention the driver, Brian, who drove very safely and was always friendly and fun. A perfect team.

Owen was such a great guide. He was really knowledgeable about the science of the lights and luckily we were treated to a spectacular show. People say that you can’t predict the aurora… well those people never met Owen. The lights progressed and behaved exactly as he predicted. I didn’t think we’d see them at all due to the cloud cover but Owen found us a great spot with clear skies and enough darkness.

This was one of the best trips we have ever taken. Arctic Explorers was amazing and I credit Tomas with it all. The pickup was simple and flawless. Then they gave us suits and boots for the weather and terrain. On the minivan there were only 8 of us with our amazing guide Tomas. We drove quite a distance out of the city, found a lovely small spot at the end of an inlet and settled in to watch the show. The lights arrived slowly, but for four hours it was an unending and constantly changing show. Tomas built a fire and he took a lot of pictures which he shared with us. Two of us were over 80 and a third person was disabled and Tomas as well as the other five guests were overwhelmingly helpful and friendly. We had a small but filing hot meal and ended with hot chocolate. Without reservation I recommend this group.

The conditions are perfect and very knowledgeable and passionate guide alex make us all feel more excited also great driver brian getting us to the location safely. Very cool night

I’ve seen the northern lights in Iceland but with friends we decided to go again. In Iceland when conditions weren’t favourable the tours didn’t run. For this tour the weather forecast was cloudy, the apps said very little chance of northern lights. We went anyway. We sat on a coach for 7 hours and never saw a thing. Everyone was nice though

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Northern Lights Big Chase Tour. Our guides, Owen and Soraia, were fantastic. From the moment we started the tour you could see how passionate they were about the Northern Lights. When we left Tromsø it was literally a blizzard, and we honestly thought there was no chance we would see anything that night. But their enthusiasm never dropped for a second. They constantly checked weather conditions, communicated with other guides, and kept searching for the best possible viewing locations. It was clear they genuinely wanted everyone on the tour to have the best experience possible, and they never gave up until we found the right spot. What made the tour special was how excited they were about something they see all the time. Their passion was contagious. Owen in particular was a great personality—fun to talk to and full of energy—and it made the long drive and cold weather enjoyable. The group size was also perfect. We had about 20–25 people, which felt comfortable and not crowded. Despite the freezing temperatures, they set up a campfire, which made a big difference, and Owen shared stories about the indigenous people and history of the region while we warmed up. And the best part: after all the effort searching for clear skies, we did see the Northern Lights, including patterns that even the guides said were unusual for them to see. One thing worth mentioning for anyone going on a Northern Lights tour: the bright green color you often see in photos is usually enhanced by cameras. To the naked eye the lights can sometimes look more gray or faint. That’s completely normal, and the cameras pick up the colors much more strongly. It’s still an incredible experience to witness. Overall, this tour was memorable, exciting, and very well run. Owen and Soraia’s dedication and enthusiasm really made the experience unforgettable.

What a fabulous night! After a very unpromising start we drove for 2 hours to where the Chasing Lights team thought we’d have clear skies. And what a show the Aurora put on! A bucket list dream come true with huge thanks to Jonas for explaining the phenomena and Marcin for the driving

The two guides did their best to make the experience fun for everyone and took great efforts to chase the lights. However I felt less time at the bonfire with less storytelling would have been great as it was a very long night. Could have saved a bit of time at the end if less time was spent on explaining and talking.

We had a great tour with guides Bailey and Ivana and driver Viorel. Our guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a lot of positive energy. They found clear skies despite not fantastic conditions, took wonderful photos, served hot drinks and biscuits, and built a fire. We got very lucky and saw a fantastic lights display. The bus was warm and comfortable. I would recommend having a large meal beforehand, because the trip was 5:20pm-1:20am and you are not allowed to eat on the bus; it was too cold to remove our gloves to eat while waiting outside for the lights.

We wasted a lot of time stopped in a spot that doesn’t meet the requirements to see northern lights..

The people running the tour were fun and knowledgeable with a combination of scientific explanations of the northern lights and whimsy folk tails of the northern lights to keep us entertained while we waited. Sadly the lights evaded us but it was still a good night. The bus was warm and quiet allowing us to get some sleep on the way home

Bailey and the team were absolutely stellar and did an excellent job with both finding a clear area for us to view the lights and keeping the night alive. They make a big effort to make the night and trip fun even if you don't see the lights. We were lucky enough to catch a few minutes of an incredible display as well. Fabulous, special, magical journey to the northern lights. We first met Bailey, Ivana and Vio at the bus stop. They were all very cheerful and happy, and gave us our reflective strips. Then we left on time, no wasting about. Bailey and the team started the tour off by introducing themselves and giving some back story about the lights and what to expect. What followed was about a 3 hour drive that took us 10 minutes from the Finnish border, where we pulled up on the side of the road, and got out. Within a few minutes we saw the lights and the excitement and photographs began. Throughout the evening, they gave us warm blackcurrant and cookies, and set up a fire to keep us warm… which we needed because it was mightily cold for standing out there. In total we were there about 3 hours, talking, listening to stories, myths, Q&A on the northern lights. But it was entirely worth it because they put on a show for us and the photos we received from the guys were glorious. 10/10. Night to remember. Would recommend. Thanks Bailey, Ivana and Vio for getting us there safely.

Bailey, Ivana and Viorel are really enthusiastic and friendly professionals who provide a great tour , that's also excellent value for money. The Lights on my night were spectacular and having the opportunity to see that, was wholly down to their efforts. Hopefully you'll be as lucky and grateful as myself.

We had a fantastic trip with Ivana and Bailey. They were such great guides. They created a wonderful atmosphere, kept us informed at all times and did their utmost to find the right spot. And then the Northern Lights appeared, absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. We will never forget it. Afterwards, we learned a lot about the Northern Lights while gathered around the campfire. Weather important, cloud cover important, patience a virtue, solar activity important - but beyond all else, with BAILEY, SORIA and Joachim driving - this turned out downright MAGICAL. Bailey and Soraia were amazing hosts and guides on this trip with Joakim doing some impressive driving on icy roads. After a couple of hours waiting we were given an amazing display of the aurora. Both Bailey and Soraia answered all our questions and took loads of photos of everyone and were full of energy throughout the trip. A hot drink and a log fire under the stars and the dancing northern lights also added to the experience. Whilst we were all dozing on the way back to Tromsø Soraia and Bailey were busy editing all the photos which we able able to access before our heads hit the pillow, an added bonus being that they were free. An amazing memory made that will not fade.

It was a beautiful experience that I would do again and again. Everything was well organised and easy from the beginning to the end, staff was caring, food great and available whatever time you ask for it. Enjoyed Aurora by the sea and breathtaking northern lights.

Nick and Jan were just lovely. From the minute we met at the bus terminal in Tromsø, it all felt calm, organised and well handled. There are loads of operators to choose from and I’m really glad we picked this one. The forecast wasn’t exactly promising, cloud was expected.but they drove us about an hour out of town chasing clearer skies and we actually found the lights. That in itself felt impressive. You could tell they weren’t just running a standard route; they were properly looking for the best chance. I felt completely safe the whole time. Everything was seamless, Jan’s driving is impressive. Nick explained the science behind the aurora in a way that was genuinely interesting, got the fire going naturally, and kept the atmosphere relaxed while we waited for the show. And when it did happen… wow. All in all, no regrets at all booking this tour. Professional, knowledgeable, and just good people. Exactly what you want when you’re standing in the Arctic waiting for the sky to light up.
