Had a superb time on this tour. Nicolas and Michael were fantastic hosts and took us to a lovely, quiet spot with clear skies where we saw a beautiful aurora display. This was despite the sky looking like it was blanket cloud. Other tours looked like they pitched up on the side of the road which was very odd whereas we had a campfire in a field and saw the lights in a much more peaceful setting. Nicolas was a great guide and explain the aurora simply but in great depth! Both him and Micheal were very personable, all in all made for a 10/10 evening and I would highly recommend.

Bart was really good at his job and informed us for every step at aurora hunting journey..it was a difficult day to find but hith his help and some luck we saw a wonderful dance up to our eyes..
We had an unforgettable Northern Lights tour with Bart yesterday! We chased the aurora all the way from Tromsø into Finland and were rewarded with an absolutely spectacular display. Seeing the lights burst into life across the sky was a moment we’ll never forget. A huge thank you to Bart for all the effort he put into the chase and for making it such a memorable night. One of the highlights of our trip — highly recommended!
Gani was a very kind guide. He was very good in finding the right spot where we got great view of the lights. He provided great stories, coffee, juice and soup. And the spot with the fire was very nice. Photographs ended up looking great too!
Amazing time with Bart chasing gaps in the cloudy skies trying to spot the aurora we knew were somewhere above. And that's where taking a small group tour comes into its own, Bart switched locations 3 times to give us the best possible chance. All whilst keeping our spirits high with a camp fire, hot drinks and snacks; and telling interesting facts about the northern lights. A full 8 hours, he never gave up and told us not to either, and then as if by magic we were driving directly towards them - unbelievable experience! This is a local company that knows its stuff, 100% recommended.
Amazing experience! Our guide and driver Magda and Iliyan were fantastic and ensured that we got to see a great show!
We had such a great time! Our guide was sweet and very knowledgeable. She found the perfect place away from the snowy weather happening in Tromso. Sitting with a bonfire among the trees was amazing enough, and then the light show began!!! It was the perfect night! I couldn’t recommend this tour more! If you’re thinking about it, just do it!
Amazing- drove around to find the best spots , even stopped on way back and always on the lookout!
Traveled about two hours, found a great spot by the lake in the middle of the mountains… Gerard was 100% and made the experience very enjoyable. Clear skyes, huge activity, so we saw many different lights, wonderful night!! In the way back we stoped in another spot, so we could enjoy an extra light show before returning to hotel. Almost 8 hours and we barely noticed!
Seeing the Northern Lights with Wandering Owl was the most extraordinary experience of our trip. Bart was an exceptional guide: knowledgeable, kind, and a true professional photographer. He chose a wonderful place for us to enjoy the auroras and helped make every moment feel special. He also brought our group together, and we shared such a lovely evening that we even made new friends. We’ll remember this magical experience for a long time. Thank you, Bart and Wandering Owl!
Our guide Bart was excellent. He took care of everything throughout the entire night and helped us take a ton of amazing aurora photos. He's very knowledgeable about aurora, listening to him talk about the stories and history behind it around the fire was more than pleasurable. Bart really made sure each and everyone of could make the most out of the aurora hunting adventure, and we absolutely did. 10/10 unforgettable experience.
Very good, the place is very beautiful
We had an amazing time on our tour with Bart! Not only did the whole trip go super smoothly and we saw some absolutely beautiful auroras, Bart took wonderful portraits of us in front of the northern lights and also told us a lot about the science & history behind the aurora & the area, which was super interesting! I was also very grateful for him helping me set up my camera so I could take pictures with my own gear as I wasn't very knowledgeable about night-time photography. This tour will forever be a super precious memory which I will never forget!
Highly recommend Wandering Owl for an aurora hunt throughout the night! Our guide was Bart who was passionate, knowledgeable and adamant he was going to find us what we paid to see…and he did! It was our first time visiting Tromso and we had to research and read many reviews to make sure we were booking what we wanted to see or do. Wandering Owl were a friendly, organised and knowledgeable team and I’m so glad we booked them. You don’t know your travelling route until the day, it depends on the clouds / weather. We got one garage stop there and back so go easy on drinking too much before you go! Dress warm, although the thermal suits they provide are amazing, you don’t have to wear them but suggest you do as it gets very cold. I took a couple of chocolate bars in my pocket to keep me going throughout the night however we were offered a vegan soup and hot chocolate during our travels.
Great tour operator. I travelled solo and the setup is great for that. Went snowshoeing and on a aurora hunt with them. Small groups, super friendly and knowledgeable guides. Also loved the fire, soup and cocoa set-up. Highly recommend
I did the express tour with Bart. Wonderful experience. Bart knew what he was looking for and found us some great lights. It was a nice tour because it was quick and went to great spots. It was the best night for the lights we had!
everything about this trip was great, the organization, communication and overall experience showed Wandering Owl as an excellent outfit. Our guide Evgeni found us a fabulous viewing spot by a fjord with a stunning mountain backdrop. He lit us a campfire and later served us hot soup while providing endless aurora facts and stories. His extensive knowledge paid off as we were treated to a wonderful aurora display, a superb highlight to a great evening. My wife and I will treasure this experience along with some great photos for a long time. Thank you Evgeni, you are the man!!
We had an amazing and unforgettable experience with Wandering Owl. Our tour guide + driver Bart put in much effort in finding clear skies to capture the Northern Lights. We managed to get a lot of amazing photos of the aurora on its own and also with me and my partner. This group is adults-only and it is also even smaller than most groups, at only 8 people. It definitely made it easier to get to know all the members of the group during the trip. It was also easier to accommodate for individual needs (e.g. somebody feeling really cold and had to stay in the van or get the thermal suits early on, thanks Bart!).
After multiple Aurora tours in Tromsø I can confidently say that Wandering Owl is the best! For the mini bus tour they have the smallest groups with the most comfortable vehicle, the best food, and the easiest way to bring the suits and boots. Our guide Evgeni was amazing, he found us the clearest sky and took incredible photos for us even on a night with low activity. He taught us all about the aurora and kept us entertained while waiting for more lights. I highly recommend him and Wandering Owl for your experience in Tromsø.
This was a wonderful Tour! Bart was genuinely passionate about Aurora and super ambitious to make this a successful and memorable experience! From the information provided, his professional photography skills and advice, to making sure we are all warm, fed and happy he went above and beyond to meet our expectations! Thank you BART for this great trip and I can’t wait to see the pictures 🤩
Evening, our guide, was definitely very passionate about his job and showing us the light. He took great photos and explained everything really well. The soup was very good! Highly recommend. Have a light dinner before you go.
Absolutely amazing!! Bart was very knowledgable & passionate about the Aurora. What an extremely special night!! We shared it with 2 other couples & a single person. We were driven to Finland (3 hours from Tromso) & got to see a spectacular display, standing on a frozen lake covered with knee deep powdery snow & surrounded by mountains & trees. Such a magical experience...... Thank you.
A fabulous experience. Bart took us (at speed!) to Finland to see the Aurora. The weather in Tromso had been terrible and the efforts made to get us to Finland in time for clear skies was exemplary. A great night viewing, from a frozen lake, knee deep in soft snow. Truly memorable, is so many ways. Thank you Bart!
We went with Wandering Owl twice in one week. The first time, we had a great experience and viewed some great aurora lights over several hours about a one hour drive southeast of Tromso. So good that we considered cancelling the second reservation for several days later. But we decided to stick with it and boy did we get rewarded for that decision. The second time out, we went west across a couple of bridges to a large island, then pulled off the road by a lake. The moon was low in the sky shining off the lake for the perfect set up. Then the light show began. Stupendous!! It was like someone had a giant neon paintbrush and kept drawing over and over again in all shapes from sharp bands to circles to curtains and swirls. Some of the shapes were moving rapidly right before our eyes, bringing an audible gasp from everyone in attendance. We were incredibly moved by what in my opinion was the single most memorable nature experience of my life. Our guide Bart worked like a dog to give us a great experience, helping us into our thermal suits, setting up the fire, serving soup and drinks, and racing around setting up his camera (he is a camera buff) to catch the latest spectral configurations. Truly magical! Wandering Owl has a great vibe and a personal touch. They were recommended by our son and did not disappoint.
Ellie was a great guide AND impressive driver. Navigating a snow blizzard and chasing clear skies all the way into Finland. Really appreciated the safe approach and efforts to make our experience comfortable! And of course to see the Northern Lights 💚
It is my second time trip to watch the Aurora, first time 9 years ago. On both trips I used Wandering Owl to "hunt" the Aurora, on this trip I used them 3 times. I am very pleased with the attitude and the results. Wandering Owl can not guaranty Aurora but they definitely do whatever it takes to get you to a clear sky area. On 14.2.2026 I took the trip with Bart. It was a small group (7 guests) that Bart handled by himself. Bart was completely dedicated to find the clear sky area. With the bad weather we had this resulted in arriving to Finland boarder. It paid off. we had a nice Aurora for all our stay and we also had an aurora storm for that was absolutely fantastic. Bart operated incredibly well, taking care of everything, paying attention to every guest like he is the only guest, all this in a freezing weather, not an easy task. Thank you Bart for being so attentive and decisive!
Would give it more than 5 stars if I could. The experience was MAGICAL! We booked this tour specifically because they advertised that they would chase the lights. However, we were worried because when we landed in Tromsø it was snowing nonstop and according to the Aurora App the chances of northern lights activity were very low. We stayed in Tromsø 4 days but our tour was on the 2nd day. The pick up went really smoothly and stress-free. I liked that our guides (Bart and Michael) really cared about the quality of our experience. They even planned our sitting in the van according to our sizes that way we were all comfortable. The guides were well equipped, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Bart always helped us with the camera settings so that we could get the best out of it. But the best was that we didn’t have to worry about taking pictures because Bart was capturing every moment for us. We could just relax and enjoy the moment. His pictures were amazing. The bonfire was a nice touch and the soup was delicious. All in all I can describe this specific team as someone who really cares about the experience. And chasing the lights is not advertising, they really drive around to find the best spot and make sure that it is not full of tourists. We’re recommending them to our friends and family and are planning on coming back.
Firstly, a PSA for Bart - don't forget your passport! There is an element of luck in seeing the Aurora, but it counts for nothing if you are in the wrong place. That's where Bart comes in. We had the most incredible few hours watching the aurora dance across the sky. Not only is he knowledgeable and experienced, he will go to great lengths (aka Finland, hence the passport!) to give you the best opportunity to experience the lights. As well as finding a cloudless area, he also put a lot of effort into taking great photos for us. I recommend choosing the longer tour option that gives you time to get further out of the city, because it doesn't matter how strong the Aurora is if you can't see through the cloud!
Long drive, but our guide Bart did not give up. The aurora was not particularly strong, but it was awesome to experience it.
BART was our tour guide and he was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!! I can’t say enough great things about him! He was professional, fun, and knowledgeable as they come. This guy busted his hump to make sure we saw the Aurora Borealis, and he was even able to whittle in two bathroom stops! He had food for us, helped everyone put on the snowsuits and boots provided by Wandering Owl (he was so patient with everyone). Mind you we were doing this in -1F temperature, plus he was helping folks with camera settings. Bart does it all! If he didn’t live so far away we would invite him to our house for dinner.
We did the northern lights tour with Bart and it was well worth it. Very insightful, good company and worked tirelessly to find us the best viewing point - and we got some amazing views. Highly recommend - the soup was great too
Truly an amazing experience for me and my family. Our guide was super resourceful and efficient, which is highly appreciated for Aurora hunting. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an aurora tour.
What a fabulous trip. I booked the adults only Aurora hunt for my birthday. The coach was modern and comfortable and there were only about 6 of us in total. I’m so glad I booked the tour. We have a hire car and have successfully found Aurora by ourselves but Evgeni our guide was amazing and delivered a fantastic night. He found us an absolutely beautiful dark and secluded spot that we had to ourselves all night and it truly made a difference. We were incredibly lucky to see the aurora at dusk before it was truly dark and wow did it put in a show, ALL NIGHT! It was so active we were too distracted to do some of the activities Evgeni had planned. Despite that we had a lovely campfire, amazing food and shared stories. Evgeni was so knowledgable and enthusiastic, It was clear he was going to do everything he could for an enjoyable night, even if we hadn’t been so lucky with the activity. His photos were also fab and he worked hard to capitalise on the best shots. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
This was my second time with northern lights hunting, and it exceeded my expectations! We saw some really incredible lights, and our guides, Sophie and Michael were really friendly, likeable and easy to chat with. They shared many interesting facts and stories about the Aurora and Tromsø and provided us with delicious hot food and drinks! We got to know all the guests around the campfire and shared lots of stories. An all round memorable evening! Thanks for everything!!
We went on the small group aurora tour with Bart and we had a great time! We were extremely lucky to have caught a really active night, but it was also due to the efforts of our guide that we managed to find a dark and secluded spot to watch the skies. Bart was very active and attentive, and even drove us back to our doorstep after the tour ended. There's always the element of luck where you may or may not see something, but our guide made sure to give us the best possible chance. Thank you Bart!
We are from Australia so our hope was to see the Northern Lights. Bart went the "extra mile" (in fact all the way to Finland!) to make sure that we did. Bart was fantastic and we really appreciate the efforts he went to.
Wandering Owl has years of experience in the business and it reflects clearly in the professionalism of the team. I’ve gone on 3 tours with them (a day and 2 night tours) and the experience across is impressively consistent, with the guides full of character and knowledge of the area. Sophie and Chris led the way on my first night chasing the lights, Bart on the 2nd and Anna on my day trip. They explained everything there is to know about the lights, shared the local folklore and made sure everyone is comfortable. Big shoutout to Bart for being the solo operator for my night two. We had some hiccups with people being careless with their objects but he remained patient throughout and he ran everything alone seamlessly - driving, guiding, spotting the lights, and I walked away with a fantastic experience and nights to remember. Forget the fly by night operators that look to make a quick buck off seasonal activities. If you are planning a trip to Tromso, going with Wandering Owl is a no-brainer.
An amazing experience for us to visit Tromso and see the Northern Lights. Wandering Owl organisation was spot-on, with every detailed covered. At no time before or during our experience was anything lacking. Bart - our guide - was sensational. A total professional who's knowledge was incredible, his passion obvious for us all to see! Bart was relentless in finding the lights for us, hell-bent on making this experience for us one never to forget - he succeeded on all accounts. Where we stopped in the middle of a remote national park above a 'frozen' river near the Swedish border was mesmerising, as was Barts explanation of the Northern Lights. We cannot recommend Wandering Owl more highly. And with Bart as our guide (and an entertaining one at that!) a better experience could not have been had. This was most definitely worth our trip from Australia - thank you so much!!!
Had an enjoyable tour with Bart. He was passionate and dedicated to his work. He will try his best to increase the chances of seeing the lights.
Words cannot describe how absolutely amazing this experience was. We had such an unbelievable time with our tour guide Bart, who went through all the efforts to make sure we were comfortable, warm, and happy. The experience of seeing the aurora borealis was insane, and Bart took the trip even further with his knowledge and information. From seeing the northern lights, to sitting around a bonfire on the side of a mountain drinking hot chocolates, I couldn’t recommend this trip enough. The bus was a nice and modern sprinter, and our driver was lovely too!! Bart made sure we pulled over every time there was activity in the sky to make sure we got out moneys worth for the trip, and he also knew of many cool spots to stop for pictures. Everyone got so many professional pictures done by Bart which arrived in our emails very fast. Thanks a million for such a lovely experience!!!
Bart was an amazing guide and he made this an unforgettable experience. He chose a great spot to stay and kept us warm throughout the night with lots of food and warm snacks. I would highly recommend booking a tour with him, you won’t regret it.
Absolutely brilliant. Guide Sophie? and driver Michael were really good. Yes we had a long drive to see the lights but they were spectacular. Excellent information given on the way, beautiful pictures (have enlarged one as a print). Snack was good. Yes it was cold but they provided warm clothing and boots for us. Driving was superb - not easy but Michael was an expert.
We did this tour with Wandering Owl for 4 nights. It was amazing. Note that they have several options: Standard, Adult Only, and Express (not sure if all options are available on Viator but you can check their website as well). We ended up doing each of the different options as we loved our tour guide so much. Sophie was amazing and so informative. The Standard and Adult Only included a camp fire to stay warm. Difference was standard had a max of 15 people and Adult Only had a max of 8 people. We enjoyed both but the coziness of a smaller group is hard to come by. Both the Standard and Adult only tours take photos of you with the northern lights which are then emailed to you for free. The Express tour starts later in the evening making it a good choice if you have a day activity. It's a shorter tour so you're not going to be driving out far in search of the Green Lady. Also, photos are not free but you can purchase them afterwards. We also went to different locations each night so you will unlikely end up at the same location. Fortunately, we did not have to drive all the way into Finland in search of northern lights during our trip, but it is a possibility. When the weather is not favorable (as on our 2nd night), you will be informed with the opportunity to reschedule. We really enjoyed our tour either way but we loved the small group and amenities included with the Adult Only tour. If you had 1 opportunity, I would consider that, however the Standard tour is cheaper but with a slightly bigger group. Both were great and you'll meet people from around the world.
Bart was an amazing guide. It is not that easy to "find" the Northern Lights and Bart made a super effort to make sure that we would see it.
Great experience on chasing for auroras. Although the bad and changing weather Bart, the guide, was super decided to find them and we could saw auroras up to in 4 different locations. Thanks Bart for the perseverance!
Bart was our guide, he did a great job! I would do this again & request him as my guide. He was all into finding the Aurora. It was my 60th birthday celebrated with my daughter Saige & good company. Thank you Gary Bruzaud
Bart went out of his way to make sure we get the best shots of the auroras. We like the auroras stories particularly explained around fire pit.
Bart, our guide, was fantastic. He was completely focused on us having the best experience we could and ended up driving to the Finnish border where he had more confidence we would see the lights (even though, as he candidly admitted, as it happened we would still have seen them nearer to Tromso). Highly professional and could not have asked for more. Thank you Bart!
Bart was amazing!! He led us to an epic camping spot and while it was cloudy when we arrived, the clouds cleared as the forecast predicted and we were treated to an amazing show!
Bart was fantastic, we thought we could never see the aurora, because of bad whether. Luckily he managed to find a sweet spot.
