Be ready to have a great time! Rita and Paul were great, very welcoming and knowledgeable about the region. Easy pick up and return to downtown Tromso. Survival suits and inner liners were in excellent condition. Both Rita and Paul clearly enjoy showing their clients a good time. Plus great snacks!
Our group recently booked the Arctic Floating tour with Authentic North while visiting Tromsø. The concept of floating in Arctic waters is fantastic, and the activity itself is truly fun, unique, and exhilarating. Unfortunately, several operational issues took away from what could have been a great experience. We experienced a slight delay getting off our ship and meeting our driver, Rita, for the minivan transfer. These things happen and are often beyond a traveler’s control, but Rita seemed visibly upset that we were about 10 minutes late. During the roughly 30-minute ride to the cabin she was unfriendly and did not engage with the group at all, which set an uncomfortable tone for the start of the tour. Another surprise was that the tour description never mentioned that we would need to walk down a very steep and icy road to reach the cabin, and worse coming back up to leave. Our group included a 78-year-old, and this was something we would have appreciated knowing in advance. Crampons were provided, but they were handed to us very quickly and we had to try to put them on while standing in the snow, which was challenging. Once at the cabin, we were quickly ushered into a very small room with a bench along the wall and a large table in the middle. With more than 14 people in the tour, there simply wasn’t enough room for everyone. Rita began tossing zip-up suits at us and ordering us to put them on over our clothes. With almost no space to change, people were bumping into each other and trying not to fall while getting dressed. Unfortunately, the gear was also disappointing. The suits had a strong body odor and musky smell, and the outer flotation layer we put on was bulky and had holes that allowed water to leak in. We were also instructed to put booties over the suit feet, but several were torn or ripped, and there were not enough for everyone. The instructions for getting into the water were given by the man taking photos, and he was very helpful and clear. Once we were actually in the water, the activity itself was fantastic. Floating in the Arctic was exhilarating, fun, and truly memorable. However, the photography was another disappointment. Based on the website, we expected overhead shots and higher-quality photos. Many of the pictures we received were blurry or candid, and in several we couldn’t even tell who was in the image. Because we didn’t bring our own cameras into the water, this was a big letdown. After the floating portion ended, Rita rushed everyone to “hurry up and get out of the gear,” and again we were squeezed into the small cabin trying not to trip over each other. I reminded her that we needed to return to the ship by a specific time, and her response felt snarky and dismissive, which was disappointing. She did drive us back to the meeting point, but knowing that we were on a time crunch with our ship departure, it would have been appreciated if she had driven the extra block to drop us at the ship rather than the designated spot. In the end, the Arctic floating itself was a great adventure, and we did enjoy that part very much. Unfortunately, the organization, equipment condition, and customer interaction significantly detracted from the overall experience. Because of that, I’m not sure I would recommend this tour, despite how fun the activity itself can be
A unique experience - highly recommend! We enjoyed the time in the water and the snacks afterwards. The guides were friendly and ensured everything was comfortable in the water and took lots of photos and videos of us in the water and shared afterwards
This was about the coolest experience you could have in Tromso! I was nervous about getting into such cold water and feeling comfortable. The tour guides were wonderful and very helpful! Stayed dry and laughed through the whole morning. It turned out to be exceptionally relaxing. II would do this again in a heartbeat!
Amazing experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend for those who want a unique and memorable experience!
A unique experience! The scenery is like something out of a fairy tale. The guides are very friendly and explained everything to us. It’s very relaxing, and I highly recommend trying it! After the activity, they serve you coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon rolls, freshly baked on the fire. Thank you guys 🤍 love from Greece!
A very relaxing experience. Lovely hosts and the surroundings were magical. Nice to warm up with some cinnamon buns and hot chocolate after the floating.
What a wonderful experience the Winter arctic floating was! One of the best activities we did in Tromso and one of the most unique experiences we have had! The team we had (Mathieu & Frederico) were very friendly and professional. They went through the plan for the session and got us all ready in the thermal suits etc. They were especially accommodating and supportive to those in the group who were afraid of the water or a little bit less physically capable, such a my mother who was recovering from a recent (7 weeks) knee and arm fracture. She was very nervous and didn’t think she was capable of doing the activity but Mathieu really gave her the confidence and helped her at every stage! The photos of the tour they took for us were great too! And the views were SPECTACULAR-truly felt like we were in Narnia. Overall a fantastic experience and well worth doing!
I had a wonderful experience, with a lot of nice pictures captured by our guides. The tour also offered us delicious snacks and hot drinks. This activity is a must-try in Tromso.
Nice small group adventure. We had 12 people total in 2 vans. Easy to find the meeting spot and scenic - not too long - ride to the event. Mathieu and Thibault (and their new helper!) were friendly and helpful. The gear is fairly easy to fairly easy to get on and Thibault made it fun. The float was amazing. Easy to just sit back in the water and float! Hard to believe we were in the water 30 minutes. Great warming hut used for changing and sharing hot drinks and snacks after. Love that Norwegian brown cheese (Brunost). Also, Mathieu grilled some tasty cinnamon rolls for us on an open fire. It was a great experience!
We had a beautiful experience. Matthew was really helpful and kind and supportive. The swim was amazing too.
Set in the breath taking Ramfjord, this is such a unique and relaxing way to experience Norway’s magnificent landscape and wildlife. Mathieu was attentive and friendly, I highly recommend going floating with him!
Mathieu and Juan were excellent tour guides, personable, friendly, and fun! We had a wonderful time floating in the Arctic, followed by hot chocolate and homemade cinnamon rolls. Mathieu took lots of great photos with the GoPro in the water and with our cameras afterward. We even received a fun certificate at the end! It made my milestone birthday extra special. Highly reccommend. Thank you!
Matthew and Lucine were amazing guides during our excursion to float the Artic! After a short drive to the location, we were suited up in our thermal suits and heading outside to float the Artic. Lucine was in the water with us the whole time and took pictures of us that we were able to download after our excursion. After the float, we were offered warm drinks and cinnamon buns that Matthew had cooked for us on the outdoor fire. The changing hut was super cute and warm. We highly recommend this excursion and it's a chance of a lifetime to be able to float the Arctic.
What a cool different experience. Floating in the water was relaxing and peaceful with no coldness at all.
Had a great time with Mathieu and Oliver! Fun to wear the survival suits and float with a fjord view . The cabin was cozy and we had hot drinks, fire roasted cinnamon buns and bread and cheese ! Fun experience!
The guides were very helpful and fun. They let the people who wanted to meditate meditate and had fun with the people who wanted to have fun!
The experience was fun for the first 10 minutes but then became a little boring. Only one guide in the water who had to spread himself a bit thin. We weren’t told there were options such as sitting on the ice to pose for pictures and jumping in but the guide seemed to single out a few (younger) participants and spent most of his time focused on them. The rest of us amused ourselves and floating on your back with snow falling in your eyes for 45 minutes was not quite the experience anticipated. I feel a conversation before you get in the water about what the possibilities are…and just how adventurous you are willing to be would help the guide and improve the experience. We had some ok photos but when I received the file with all the photos he’d taken of others clearly having a blast posing, I was disappointed that our experience didn’t match theirs. A second guide in the water for a group of 12 people would also be an improvement.
Our instructors were super great and friendly that it made the experience all the better. They were super willing to take photos and make sure we were comfortable. It was also the first time we had brunost and we were immediately hooked. The overall experience was very relaxing and the food was great! I would def recommend going. I believe our instructors were Mathieu and Stephanie, and you'd be lucky to have them!
Amazing experience, floating and surrounded by ice in the middle of the fjord. Matthieu and Juan were great hosts and always attentive for our needs, making sure we enjoyed a safe experience. No need to know to swim, so really open to everyone. We could feel closer to nature in this amazing space and also relax in this silent environment. There was a perfect ending with hot drinks, hot cinnamon rolls and brown cheese. We definitely recommend to try.
Our Arctic floating adventure in Tromso was absolutely unforgettable! We arrived at the pick-up point and were greeted by a friendly gentleman who informed us that the van was full, but a taxi had been arranged for us, which arrived just a few minutes later. From there, we enjoyed a scenic drive near the water with stunning mountains all around. Once we arrived at the site, we had to walk downhill to the hut and the water. The walk was a bit steep and slippery, so be prepared for that, but it added to the excitement and adventure of the experience. The location itself was breathtaking—surrounded by majestic mountains, a beautiful sky full of colors, and the sun setting behind the peaks. At the hut, we were provided with socks and then floating suits. The staff were super friendly, and we had a great time chatting with the other participants. We also had a chance to take some group photos, both on their camera and our own. Then, one of the team members went into the water and started breaking the ice with an axe, which was a cool sight! Shortly after, we were floating in the water, surrounded by nothing but mountains and the sky above us. The floating suits were incredibly warm and kept us completely dry, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience. After about half an hour of floating, we took more pictures on the frozen water and explored the area a bit. When we got out of the water, we were treated to hot chocolate and freshly made cinnamon rolls around a cozy fire—such a perfect way to warm up after the adventure. To top it all off, we were given a certificate as a souvenir, which was a nice touch and a cute reminder of the experience. The entire adventure was truly unique and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we would highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in Tromso
floating in the arctic while looking at the fjord with light snow is such a unique experience! stef and arthur were welcoming and friendly. they explained the whole process and made me feel safe throughout the whole experience. they captured many good moments for us and shared the photos with us immediately.
It was an enjoyable experience. The scenery was nice: a log cabin surrounded by frozen water and snowy mountains in the background. The staff was kind and made sure we all have nice photos to show-off later. After floating, nice cup of tea and cinnamon rolls were served.
The tour was well run and the ice floating experience was fabulous - lots of fun. Would recommend this!
A super relaxed day very friendly staff and beautiful surroundings well done to everyone involved would recommend
This was my favourite trip of the week. Fantastic scenery, so relaxing floating in the fjord. The guides were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. 3 out of the 4 of us were nervous about doing it - ALL enjoyed it. Thank you for a fantastic experience and memory.
This was a unique experience and I'm glad we got to do this! I think the experience could be improved with a couple of minor tweaks: I'd like to see either a smaller group of guests, or more guides. We had 12 guests in our group and only 1 guide the water. The result is that you don't get many instructions or pictures because the guide has to take some time with each group/person. I also wish we had been given more information before we got in about what all we could do, such as: can we get up on the ice? Jump in? rotate onto our fronts? We were pretty much just told to float on our backs, but after a while, that gets kind of uncomfortable and boring (you're usually just looking at a grey sky). If I had known I could climb up onto the some pieces of floating ice, I would have liked to do that much sooner. Still, I enjoyed my time out there and glad I'm glad got to do this! It's something you can't do in most places.
Amazing experience from start to finish. The float was so relaxing, we stayed in the water over an hour. The crew were very good and made sure to get photos of us so you don’t need to worry about taking your phone in as to be honest you won’t be able to use them in the water anyway due to the suits. We were so lucky with the weather perfect morning, worth every penny .
Wonderful experience with the Authentic North team. What a wonderful feeling to float in a frozen fjord without the sensation of cold. Absolute relaxation in the daylight of this polar night. The team is very responsive if you have any questions and will do everything to make sure you have a wonderful time. We highly recommend this extraordinary experience.
Such a great experience! The staff were very nice and took all kinds of pictures since we couldn’t. It was very enjoyable.
The most amazing activity I have ever done. The experience was mind blowing. The owner and his staff ( a young French girl) were most welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The young lady was absolutely the kindest person ever. I would recommend this activity to anyone. Thank you for making our holiday ❤️
OMG, what an amazing experience. I was a bit nervous at first, but once I was in the water and floating, I was so relaxed. Highly recommend doing it.
This was a really cool experience. You travel by van about 25 mins to a picturesque seaside location. You’ll have to hike down a gentle slope( and back up at the end) - it wasn’t too difficult. You’ll find the frozen waters with a gorgeous backdrop of snow covered mountains. There’s a hut with benches where you’ll leave your coats & boots. You’ll get a warm set of coveralls & wool socks to wear , and the guides will help you into the floating suit. You then walk down to the water and float. There is a guide with you the entire time, and they take plenty of photos which they share. I stayed in about 50mins and didn't feel cold , After floating they serve warm drinks and snacks. Really an incredible experience - highly recommend .
This was so fun and relaxing. Nothing like floating in the Arctic in the snow. The guides were friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience. A must try for Tromso. The guides too are very helpful and friendly. Overall, we loved it.
A must! Matthias and his crew are friendly and helpful, they make sure we get the most of the arctic ocean floating experience and helped with taking pictures of everyone. They explained evething in detail and we had a blast! Highly recommended if you never done ice floating before! The handmade cinnamon rolls and a variety of flavored teas combo is a plus!
We had a simply unforgettable floating experience in the picturesque fjords..though we were non-swimmers, had no problems staying afloat with the specially designed suits keeping us warm, dry and floating.. and after the activity had yummy hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls.. we highly recommend it..!
The Arctic Ocean swimming excursion in Tromsø, Norway with Ingvar’s pleasant company is a thrilling, unforgettable experience. Plunging into the pristine, icy waters amid stunning fjords and snowy landscapes was both refreshing and exhilarating. The knowledgeable guide and tour host, Ingvar, ensure safety while adding fascinating insights about the Arctic environment. This adventure offers a unique way to connect with nature and challenge oneself in a breathtaking setting. We got certificates too 😁
Brilliant experience floating in a Fjord. Our pick up was on time and our guide Mathieu was super and made us all very welcome and looked after our every need. His Cinnamon rolls were very tasty. Our son loved this experience.
I love all the experience! I did it with my family .. my daughter 12ys old was fully in love with the experience!!
A really relaxing, fantastic experience. Tour guide Matthew was very friendly and knowledgeable. With the suits on it’s a quite an easy activity. Would high recommend.
Matthew was a fantastic guide, he made the floating experience fantastic. We had a lot of fun. After the floating session we had a nice drink and some food by the bonfire. The view from the cabin is so nice.
This was an amazing experience with a great guide Matthew. He was very helpful and focused in making sure we all had a great time. Definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone!
Fantastic company, very well run and helpful customer service! Where else do you get the chance to float in the Arctic in a comfortable suit. Much better experience with this company than some others I've had experiences booked with in Tromso area!
Absolutely Mind-Blowing! If you ever find yourself in Tromsø, this is an absolute must-do experience. Miss out, and you'll be kicking yourself later! For families, especially those navigating adventures with a wheelchair, finding inclusive activities can be a challenge. But let me tell you, Ingvar, alongside his incredible team, Mathieu & Trine, goes above and beyond to ensure everyone can participate fully. They tweaked a few things here and there, seamlessly integrating our son into the day's adventures. And what a day it was! The floating experience was nothing short of spectacular, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime. It wasn't just the activities that made the day special; it was the warmth and thoughtfulness of everyone involved. Their friendliness and eagerness to assist transformed a great day into an extraordinary one. The cherry on top? Gathering around a fire, sharing laughter and stories, indulging in freshly baked cinnamon rolls, and sipping on rich hot chocolate. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. I cannot recommend this experience enough – it's a flawless 100/100 from us. Don't miss out on this unforgettable adventure!
This was the best experience ever; better than any spa day and my favourite thing to do in Tromsø. If we had time I would do it again. Ingvar was brilliant, could not have been more helpful. If you do one thing in Tromsø, do this!
Mathew is a good guide. A warm welcome and a good explenation of how to get on the survivalsuit and how to get in and out the water en how to move in the water. Good changingroom in the cabin. No worries, you can leave your personal stuff safely in the cabin. A incredible experience to float on the Northern Icesea. 45 minuten really relaxed. Walking back slowly at the ice to the cabin. Drink a nice warm coffee or tea and eat a lovely cake. Al together a incredible experience.
I recently embarked on the 3-Hour Shared Arctic Morning Floating Experience in Tromsø, a solo journey that promised both adventure and self-discovery. As someone with a longstanding fear of water, this activity pushed me out of my comfort zone, leading to an experience that was both challenging and liberating. The day began with a breathtaking sunrise over Tromsø, casting a magical glow over the icy landscape. The group assembled at the designated meeting point, and our knowledgeable guide set the tone for what was to come. The anticipation and nervous excitement among the participants were palpable, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of anxiety and curiosity. The activity involved floating in the icy waters surrounded by the stunning Arctic scenery, tethered to a secure line for safety. The feeling of being suspended in the water, with only the icy depths below, initially triggered waves of fear. However, the expert guidance and support from our tour leader Ingvar quickly turned those apprehensions into a sense of empowerment. The floating experience itself was surreal. Immersed in the tranquility of the Arctic waters, I found an unexpected sense of calm. The cold, crisp air and the gentle sway of the water created a unique connection with nature. The beauty of the surrounding landscape, the snow-capped mountains, and the stillness of the Arctic added to the surreal quality of the experience. The shared nature of the activity brought together individuals from different walks of life, fostering a sense of camaraderie. Despite my initial fears, the supportive atmosphere allowed me to challenge myself and overcome personal boundaries. The shared laughter, encouraging words, and the collective sense of achievement made the journey all the more memorable. In the end, the 3-Hour Shared Arctic Morning Floating Experience in Tromsø turned out to be more than just an adventure; it became a lesson in confronting fears and embracing the unknown. The personal growth achieved during those three hours in the Arctic waters will remain etched in my memory as a transformative moment of self-discovery. This unique and well-guided activity is highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable Arctic adventure, even if, like me, you harbor a fear of water. The blend of nature, camaraderie, and personal triumph makes it an experience worth savoring.
This was such an amazing experience! Ingvar was a great host who made us feel very comfortable and safe. I can’t recommend this enough - something completely different and very unique which brought us a lot of joy.
