Tortuguero National Park Canal Tour With Canoe

Our guide did not take us into the narrow waterways where larger boats can’t get to. He just paddled around the main river. Seemed to just follow other guides and other kayakers We didn’t see near as much wildlife as we expected. Rather disappointed

The BEST tour we have done in Costa Rica!!. You should NOT visit Costa Rica and miss this opportunity - an absolute privilege to be in nature, see the beauty and serenity of the rainforest and dive into canals to see crocodiles, birds, monkeys, crabs, lizards, sloths and more. Thank you to Luis for making this an amazing 2.5 hour experience and your knowledge and professional mamner as we went through. We hope to be back!!

Luis was excellent and very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. Canoe was the way to go to avoid scaring off the animals with a motorboat. Beautiful, scenic excursions into multiple small canals in the rainforest. Would highly recommend.

This guy cancelled on me at 9:29pm for a trip booked well in advance for the next morning reservation for 9:00am. After spending many hours on the bus and then a long boat ride to get there the night before he cancelled with no explanation late at night leaving me scrambling until midnight with zero luck of finding someone to take me last minute the next day. There were plenty of people on the journey in offering tours but I declined as I had a trip to honor but instead this outfit wasted a day and much time scrambling having to stay another day. When I asked about the refund for the mandatory park fee that I had purchased in anticipation of the tour just hours before he cancelled he said to contact the park for a refund and they never responded but it wasn't about the park fee at this point it was about wasting a day and scrambling.

We had Luis take us through the canales tour. Wonderful! Luis was a great spotter and we saw iguanas turtles monkeys and cayman. The best part of our trip.

Luis is an excellent guide; the canal tour was a highlight of our Costa Rica tour. During our morning tour, we not only saw many birds, monkeys, caimans, and iguanas—which he explained wonderfully—but he also told us a lot about the history and life in Tortuguero. Since we were traveling by canoe, we were able to navigate through canals that seemed almost magical and mystical. Definitely recommended!

We are glad that one of the boats on river yesterday had Don Chico on the side of the canoe. We liked that the canoe was coming out of a channel and that is what we wanted to do. Thank you for setting this incredible experience up with short notice. We really enjoyed going into the channels, it was just what we had wanted to do. Norton was a great guy. Note that this tour is not motorized so it might look a bit slow at the beginning, but it is absolutely worth it because without engine you can go into canals where other boats are not allowed and you can really enjoy the tour. Dozens of animals and really great explanation from the guide. Flawless communication vis chat beforehand. 10/10 would do it again.

Absolutely amazing tour with Luis as sunrise. Peaceful canoe tour with super knowledgeable and friendly guide who showed us loads of wildlife - from white faced monkeys to caimans and even a river otter! Couldn't have been any better!

We were a family of five from Spain, and our experience with this company was absolutely amazing! We did two tours: one to see the turtle nesting and another through the canals… and we loved them both! The turtle nesting tour was magical. We saw three turtles: one laying eggs, another heading back to the sea, and a third that started nesting right next to us. Being there, so close, watching the eggs come out while the guide explained the whole process… it’s something we’ll never forget! They really do everything possible to make sure everyone can experience that special moment. The canal tour was also incredible. We saw so many animals, and honestly, just the boat ride through Tortuguero’s canals is worth it on its own. We 100% recommend them — the guides are super friendly and make the whole experience even more special.

This canoe ride was such an amazing experience and our guide norton was so sweet and knowledgeable! We saw monkeys, iguanas, a boa, caimans and more! my family and i loved it. A few things to note is it get to the meeting spot in tortugero you do have to take about an hour boat ride for a small fee. you also have to purchase the national park tickets. I didn’t know this before but i messaged the owner and he was so nice and accommodating with us. Overall i definitely reccomend the tour with them and also giving yourselves time to explore tortugero park because it’s so pretty.

Great experience. We saw many varieties of animals and our guide was very helpful. We had perfect weather and paddling was not required for us.

We had a tour with Erik, very humble, funny & knows a lot stuff about the park (very good English too btw) We did the tour at 6 am and we felt very safe with Erik as our cano driver. We had a brilliant canal tour with Don Chico tours! Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny and pointed out lots of wildlife - we saw caimans, iguanas, monkeys, lizards and many different birds, and learnt a lot about Tortuguero. Luis from Don Chico was also great at communicating with us before the tour to make sure we had all the information we needed. Would highly recommend!

Such a fun trip! Norton was knowledgeable and friendly. We saw sloths, howler monkeys, caimans, and all the birds you could dream of. I felt perfectly safe as a solo female traveler.

We loved this tour. We went at 6AM on New Year's Day. Our tour guide Eric was awesome. We even rescued a dog that had swam into the river because of the previous nights fireworks. We loved being in the canoe because it was so quiet.. I preferred the experience to a boat with an engine. Tortugero is a wonderful place to see the wildlife of Costa Rica as a family. They had really good sized buoyancy aids for our children aged 2&5 Thank you Dom chico for a wonderful family exy

Exciting tour. Erick our guide was awesome. We saw caiman, monkeys, a snake and numerous birds. Would definitely recommend.

This tour exceeded our expectations. The canals are magical with an abundance of wildlife to be seen. However, without Nortons' knowledge and expertise, we would have missed most of it! If we had another day, we would have done it all over again and would have loved to complete a trek in the park, definitely with Norton as a guide!

We had a great tour with a great guide. Book the Don Chico Tour through Luis and ask for the guide Norton, top guide. And they promise a 2.5h tour.... And we had over 3 hours. Caveman, turtles, monkeys, birds, iguanas etc....

We did a morning tour with Norton, who was a great (and eagle-eyed) guide! We saw sloths, iguanas, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, many caimans, a swimming boa constrictor (!) and more. I would highly recommend this tour.

We - mom, dad and two girls of 8 and 11 - went with Luis on the canals and Erick in the natural park. We absolutely loved both tours and the guides! They showed us soooo many animals we would have never seen like aras’, basilisk, iguanas, kaiman, sloths, monkeys, toucans, anteaters, poisonous frogs, lizards, footprints from jaguars, parrots, butterflies, hummingbirds, kingfisher etc etc. both experienced guides knew so much about the wildlife and the history of Tortuguero and the country. “Like walking with a friend” my wife said. Wow! I highly recommend doing these trips with these guys!

So pretty! And we got to see so many different species. Our guide, Bernal, was incredibly nice and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Definitely recommend.

Bernal was the best guide ever and im really glad that we have chosen this tour. Its the best and the price its SO worth it. with the little boat we coulded go into the very little canals and we saw many animals. I really suggest this.

6am tour is amazing for animal spotting. We did not spend much time in the actual canals but maybe better to book a kayak tour if this is important to you.

We went to the canals with our Guide Bernado. He was so polite and friendly and taught us a lot things about the animals. Great experience!!

The close ups of animals great and very memorable. I got some fantastic photos and saw species I didn't expect to see.

Too expensive, you will get it cheaper there and also no mention of the extra payment of around $20pp for National Park entry, which is not included in this price, so close to £200 for 4 people.

We were given big, thick ponchos because it was pouring down with rain. Our guide Will was rowing whilst we could admire the landscape. Will pointed out so many animals that we had passed without noticing. With our small camera we were able to take many photos. Will also had some binoculars we could use. We were lucky and the sun came out again for a while. We did some rowing as well but it's quite tiring if you are not used to it. All in all an excellent experience. :-) thank you very much!

We saw many birds and a caiman. Also learned about the biodiversity of the area. Enjoyable paddle tour.

Although there was lots of rain, this was a lovely tour through the winding rivers of Tortuguero. Our guide was great! He was very knowledgable and was able to spot some animals from miles away. He even brought us some fruit snacks!

This was an excellant tour. Eric our guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the waterways, plants and animals. We saw Howler monkeys, a sloth moving through the trees , some caimans and many birds. Highly recommended.

We did two tours with Don Chico; Canals with Bernal and night walk with Abel. Canals was great we saw lots of wildlife and Bernal was very personable and explained a lot! The night walk was ok but we didn't see as much also we noticed other groups' guides had better bigger torches and also telescopes to see things better, which our guide didn't have. It felt like we didn't spend as much time looking for wildlife as we could have.

From the start, even before the tour, Luis and the team were very helpful (they even sent us a reminder through WhatsApp)! The tour itself was an amazing experience! We rode in a canoe small enough to go into the narrowest of canals to see the forest from the inside. During the tour we got to see various iguanas, birds, monkeys and caymans. Our guide, Brandon, spoke English really well, was very helpful with everything and was always happy to answer our questions.

Great experience even in a tropical thunderstorm! We were drenched but still had a great time and saw loads of wildlife - our guide Eddie was really knowledgable and knew all the spots to find things - even sleeping bats! Great trip and our 8 year old loved it

We had a great guide who rowed us around the national park. We saw many birds, reptiles and monkeys as well as different trees. We learnt interesting facts about the animals. I would highly recommend, especially if you want a more personal tour.

It was okay. We didn't see much wildlife...some birds and a cayman under water. That was it. The boat is quite uncomfortable.

Great tour company, very easy to communicate through Whatsapp they are always available and happy to help. We had Brandon as guide for both the night walk and the day canoe trip and he was very knowledgeable, told us interesting stories from when he was growing up in Tortuguero, and did the tour simultaneously in English and Spanish. The number of people in the group in both tours was very small so that made it very enjoyable too. We saw lots of animals and felt very close to nature!

We had the pleasure of participating in a canoe tour through the enchanting lagoons of Tortuguero, organized by Don Chico Tour, and we can't recommend it enough! Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the surroundings and the various animals that inhabit them. His friendliness and cheerful personality made the experience all the more enjoyable. Even though we were well over time, he still took the time to let us photograph additional animals we encountered on the way back. This truly shows his dedication to maximizing the trip.
