Warren our guide was fabulous and just as excited as us to spot the wild life. We saw multiple frogs, snakes, spiders, sloths and a toucan. Warren was also a fantastic macro photographer and captured these for us on our phones. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience! Our guide Marco, a biologist, was very knowledgable and passionate. He takes his time to give explanations and look for the animals. He did not only let us see all nature has to offer here, but also taste!
We took this tour after spending two weeks in Costa Rica. Consequently, I believe, we can compare its quality reliably with other activities organized in this area. And I have to say that we were rather disappointed by this tour. Do not take me wrong - the nature in Tortuguero is amazing and I our guide managed to find many different animals there. But we did not like the way, how this trip was organized: The quide had always located some animal, usually quite far away, pointed his flashlight on it, we were looking for a few minutes while he described its life, and we moved on... This is in a stark contrast with the way how these trips are organized in Monteverde and/or by other tour providers in Tortuguero: They a have a high-quality monocular telescope on a tripod, usually equiped with a smartphone. After finding an animal, they point the telescope to it, take the picture on the smartphone and, finally, everybody from the group can see it by himself/herself. (And after the the tour they usually send you the taken photos, free of carge.) So, this makes all the difference... Consequently, despite the fact that the Tuanis Tour is one of a few companies availeble online, I would strongly suggest you to book this tour AFTER the arrival to Tortuguero in a company that provides a tour with the telescope. And it should not be that difficult to find such a tour, as about half of the other groups, which we met in Tortuguero were equiped with tripods and telescopes...
Despite a warm and dry night that made it difficult to spot a lot of animals, Our great guide Marco made it worth. Insightful and fun, it was worth every minute of it
It was truly amazing. Great service and good company. Luis is a great and knowledgeable guide. Take time for you and explains everything. I definitely recommend!!!
Luis was a super motivated and interested guide. He really gave us the freedom to explore the environment ourselves and knew a lot about the flora and fauna we encountered - including interesting fun facts such as symbiotic relationships between those organisms. :D However, he also spotted a lot of different species and shared interesting info on them. The group was small, so that he could address everyone's findings. We saw many animals from a porcupine to a two-toed sloth, different basiliks and many smaller animals. The tour showed us how much biodiversity can be found if you just look left and right on a normal trail. Luis was very positive and motiviated which gave us the feeling that he is also very enthusiastic about what he does. Truely recommendable! :)
The tour was in the general area of Tortuguero town. The meeting place is in Tortuguero town itself. Be sure if you are staying at outside of town, you have transportation to town. The tour doesn’t pick up at hotels. At water taxi is available for a fee.
Put on long trousers and depending on the weather take an umbrella with you. Binoculars aren't necessary.
Our night walk was with a group of 5 people and a guide. We enjoyed it but there were so many groups out at the same time on the same trail so it was a bit difficult to spot animals. We saw quite a few frogs, a sloth and the best part was seeing a porcupine.
We saw very much animals in the night walk Snakes Spiders Frogs Sloths and many other we have a buddy it was a dog that searcht some animals and it was very helpful
Warren is an amazing guide who loves what he does. So much fun to do this tour. You will see so much and learn a lot. Really recommend this tour to anyone!
Excellent wildlife tour! Our guide Warren was very skilled and helped us spot an amazing range of wildlife in the forest around Tortuguero - lots of bugs, sloths, raccoons and the highlight, a sleeping toucan!
Warren was an excellent guide with great instincts. You can tell he thoroughly enjoys what he does and shares his finds enthusiastically. He picks up on the group’s interests and gets excited about big and small finds alike. We spotted numerous lizards, 4 sloths, a possum, a big family of raccoons, frogs and so many cool bugs! Thanks for the great tour and taking your time 🙏🏼
An absolutely amazing experience, we saw loads of wildlife including Sloths, frogs, spiders and a snake. Our guide Warren was really passionate and his Son who assisted him was equally so, even the torrential rain didn't spoil it. Definitely take waterproof bags and jackets! Would strongly recommend this experience.
In the begining if the tour we were a little bit sceptic, as it seemed that we would not go deep in the jungle. But we have seen more than 15 different animals/insects/reptiles. Without the guide we would definetely not noticed them at all! The tour guide was a really easy going nice person! And explained a lot about the local nature a species!
Gabriel is a fantastic guide to see Tortuguero with! We were walking without a guide in the national park and saw him doing a fantastic job finding animals. He took time to point them out to us even though we were not with him so we asked if we could join him for the next tours he was doing. It was so worth the money,we saw many sloths, spider monkeys and anteaters during the day. At night we even saw a black & white owl. 10/10 experience
Daniel led us on an immersive night walk that included red eyed frogs, porcupine, many lizards and spiders, vultures, sloths and insects. How he spots them is incredible! Highly recommend Daniel, the unofficial mayor of Tortuguero.
Warren was our guide during the night tour, and it was unbelievable the amount of animals he spotted. Next to all the animals we saw, we learned a lot and not to forget, the fun facts he was able to tell us about the animals. The best end of our visit of Torteguero we could think of.
A fun and well-guided tour! We saw several animals and learned interesting information about them. .
Gabriel was just perfect in this activity. Lots of animals and insects spotted. Good explanations. Verre friendly. I recommend him.
Had a great experience with Luis, he had a great knowledge of all wildlife and we saw loads including a big caiman. Would definitely recommend.
Luis was a great guide, that told us a lot about the animals we saw. He was really positive and so friendly, would absolutly recommend! The only thing that we would say is that the parc is not too exciting, if you have already visited corcovade or something. But we saw the bluejeansfrog an many Sloths, that was great! The Canoetrip is definetly a cool thing to do and we saw beautiful nature!
Very nice and rich tour guide with Luis! We saw snakes, frogs, Toucan, sloth, spiders, lizard, caméléon, crickets and apes!
We spent a very nice walk in the forest at night. Our guide Kendrick was very interesting and knew hips of things about plants, animals and history of Tortuguero. We spent a very nice moment in family. We saw a red-eyes frog, a sloth, spiders and reptiles. We recommand it !
Booked direct through their website. Jairo was brilliant as a guide - friendly, chatty and informative. He handed a bi-lingual tour with ease and made sure everyone had a good experience. We saw a Sloth, Toucans, Porcupine, Scorpion, various lizards and bugs. Was very interesting.
We went as a family of four with two kids ages 8 and 13. We saw sloths, red eyed tree frogs, spiders and more! This is worth the money!
Fun and interesting nightwalk with flashlights and our very knowledgeable guide. Lilly. We saw two slothes, several of the elusive costa rican green tree frogs, a small boa constrictor, spiders of varying sizes, a baby iguana and a few other creatures. It is worth it to go with a guide as we could never have found most of what we saw on our own.
Brilliant tour with Diego as guide. How he managed to spot some of the frogs, insects, sloths & a miriad of birds I will never know. Providing a telescope helped us get some great views of the animals. Well worth the cost, thoroughly recommended.
The guide was superb. We went slowly away from other groups and he found an amazing range of animals - the best night walk we have done
Tour guides were skillful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were able to see lots of animals. The tour was informative and thrill-seeking.
Our guide Diego was the best we've had since arriving in costa rica. Highly recommend asking for him to guide your tour. We have taken multiple tours since arriving in costa rica but none come close to the value Diego provided.
Great night safari, saw lots of animals including multiple sloths, toucans, iguanas, snakes and frogs. Diego our guide was a great spotter, and saw so much more than if I went without a guide, he had loads of knowledge about the area and the animals. Would definitely recommend going on this tour.
The night tour was fantastic would highly recommend! Our tour guide Diego was exceptional, with 15 years of experience! He was also the only guide with a telescope there. We saw so many animals including a sloths, spiders, snakes, frogs and many more. Must do in Tortuguero!
Torch lit tour of the labyrinthine jungle just outside the village. Saw scorpions and tarantulas and sloths and a 9 banded armadillo. Jairo our guide was very helpful and knowledgable and we felt safe throughout. Small group of 5 people was excellent. No equipment required as they bring it all. Wear long trousers and closed shoes / boots.
Amazing experience - you absolutely have to take the 6am tour as it’ll give you the best chance to see lots of wildlife. I’d also recommend either taking a kayak or canoe, specifically not motorised so you don’t scare any wildlife as you approach. While nature sightings can never be guaranteed, we were lucky enough to see a giant river otter, iguanas, spider monkeys, capuchins, toucans, aricari, caiman and tons of other birds I can’t remember the name of! It was also great to learn about the plant life, I left the tour feeling informed and inspired by the beautiful forest.
We had a great experience on the night tour with Bernie! We got to see a sloth, lizards, a snake, spiders, porcupines, and more! We felt safe walking through the jungle with him as our guide and it was a cool experience seeing everything at night. Definitely recommend!!
Great trip with Bernie - he spotted so much wildlife that we would have walked straight past! Really knowledgeable. Note - a lot of the restaurants in Tortugeuro close at 8.30 so eat before you go! 😊🐍🪲🐸🦇🐛
This was a good tour. Saw sleeping sloths A pair of snakes breeding and other things. Walked the beach hoping for a leatherback as one was seen the previous week. Just starting to return to the nesting area.
The night your was amazing with Bernie we saw do many different animals and he was so knowledgeable. Both types of Sloths, porcupine Rainbow Tucan, lizards, insects, armadillo, ect........Highly recommended.
We had guide Vernie for the night walk tour, the day hike tour and the morning canoe tour. All three were excellent. Vernie’s (sp?) knowledge base and phenomenal spotting abilities are extraordinary.
Our guide found snakes, sloth and spiders. There was also a sleeping green tree frog and he kindly took us back so we could get a picture of the frog with his eyes open which made our night! Thank you!
The tour was great and our guide Bernie was very knowledgable and helpful! We saw so many creatures including sloths, toucans, a porcupine, snakes & spiders! Bernie had a telescope which he set up each time he spotted something so that we could see all of its details really clearly and even take photos through the telescope! It’s worth noting that there were other tours taking place in the same area and they didn’t have telescopes so we’re so glad we picked this tour! Thank you Bernie!!
We ended up doing 4 tours with Tuanis Tours while in Tortuguero for two nights and loved them all. The night walk tour was very enjoyable, easy to do (we also did a night walk in Puerto Viejo/Manzanillo and that one was much much more gruelling), nice breeze from the water, and mix of a rainforest jungle and regular town path. Not too many mosquitos either.
Thank you so much Yewuison for a brilliant night tour! Yewuison was incredibly knowledgeable on the wildlife in Costa Rica, he was so friendly and great with our kids too. It was such a unique experience and Yewuison's enthusiasm for nature shone through and inspired us greatly. Highly recommend!
The tour we did was amazing, we were in very good hand with our guide who was doing it for a long time and excellent at spotting animals! The long view and the binoculars were a big plus to see the animals closer. We were also able to take photo in the long view giving amazing quality pictures, definitely recommend !
Very good extoci tour, the guide Yewuison is sharing a lot of knowledge and take time to find every animals. He loves to share, he is a very kind and funny guy, probably one of the best guide in Tortuguero !
When we arrived in Tortuguero Boa was waiting at the deck and helping us to come to the hotel. First contact was nice, with explanation and advices about all activities in order to pick great one. For the tour at night with Boa we saw a lot of smallest life in the jungle lile frog, iguana, ants, birds... He is biologist so very passionate about wildlife. He speaks spanish, English, French, maybe German and some Italian. We highly recommend him, you can discover wonderful stories about nature.
Very enjoyable walk with a young enthusiast local guide. We saw many animals including a red-eyed tree frog, a python, a two-toed sloth, an opossum as well as some other frog species, a toad and many insects. If you’re looking do something interesting but slow paced, I would recommend this. I was expecting a walk through the National Park, however this tour is just around the outskirts of Tortuguero village (we still saw plenty of wildlife). There were many other tours following the same path and it felt a little congested at times.
"After a cordial welcome and check-in, then we will board the boat that will take us to the entrance of the trail." There was no boat. We literally walked around a chain of hotels a few hundred feet from their office. This is false advertising 2) "This tour/activity will a maximum of 7 travelers." We literally had to push our way through in order to engage with the tour guide who would show something to the people in front and then walk away, all during a pandemic. The listing should've reflected these significant changes. If I knew we were merely going to walk around some hotels with a large group for 2 hours, I wouldn't have even done this for free. I've taken this up with Viator and they refuse to acknowledge the facts in the description even claiming that it didn't affect the quality of tour despite me remembering that no member of Viator was actually present for this tour.
Verny was fantastic, he spotted tons of animals like snakes, lizards, sloths and an armadillo! He even spotted them for other groups. He also explained different plant life amd educated us on every question we had Clearly the Best guide there!
