Canoe Tour

When we arrived it was a tropical downpour - they had very heavy duty rain ponchos that keep us dry. Our guide Barnal was very kind and knowledgeable. He made sure everyone saw the wildlife -even teeny tiny long-nosed bats! It amazes me the things he could spot! He took us deep into the canals where it was peaceful and magical. We saw crocodiles, caiman, an anteater, iguanas and so many birds! It was a great trip.

We had a great time and saw a lot of wildlife (mostly Caiman and birds). Bernardo, our tour guide was knowledgeable, funny and very friendly!

We had an appointment with Hugo at 5:50 AM, the time we arrived, but he, who must have thought we were going to cancel, arrived around 6:20 AM. Without letting us know it was him, we were given life jackets and invited to get into the canoe; we were wondering who the gentleman was, who was quite cold nonetheless. The ride was nice, but we really have mixed feelings about Hugo. Yet we had only seen positive reviews.

We stayed at Hugo's, canoeed and night walk with him. It offers a 5/5 service! He speaks a much richer French than many of our fellow citizens. We loved the night walk, he took the time, his passion for nature is felt. The canoe ride is relaxing and enjoyable, at the rendezvous: caimans, monkeys, lizards, birds... We sincerely thank him, everything was was beyond what we imagined.

Great experience, our guide spoke perfect French, and knew very well the plants and animals of Tortuguero. Very nice atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Superb excursion on Tortuguero with Hugo! A Beautiful Guide! Smiling, kind and who loves more than anything he does. This excursion lasts 2h30, we saw spectacled caimans, American crocodile, monkeys, lizards, birds... Silent and environmentally friendly boat unlike others. Hugo is very Leader and he has a lynx eye. Our two teenagers loved it. And we discovered many species of local wildlife. I recommend Hugo's canoe tour!

A very pleasant canoe trip with our guide Pedro, they make a huge effort to show as much as possible, monkeys, caimans, all kinds of birds, lizards, iguana. We booked this tour from our lodge Chinita. Definitely a must do if you are staying on Tortuguera, I think going by canoe is a more fun experience than sitting in a boat with 20 people.

We had a great day with Hugo! Our two young children, 6 and 3 years old, will fall asleep with stars in their eyes. And us too. I highly recommend this person who is passionate about his profession. You should know that it is not 2-seater canoes but boats with 6 or 8 seats. In addition, the river is very wide and we walk along the banks (just a short ride in the mangrove that was completely exotic but lasted only 15 minutes where we could see a small caiman) and we are in the company of many other boats like ours including some motor boats that pollute and are noisy. Otherwise do not forget the binoculars to observe the rare toucans, parrots, monkeys.... Hugo is super interesting and friendly.

Hugo is an excellent guide! He knows Tortuguero and the species that live there. His lynx eye and his acquaintances made us discover animals we would never have seen without him! Prepare your biceps, it is a walk in the canals of Tortuguero where you have to get your hands on the dough but which was exceptional 😊

It's simply the best guide to Tortuguero. we made 3 excursions with Hugo (day ride, evening turtles and boat ride) Hugo has an eye for many animals, even the other guides asked him the names of the species, or took advantage of our stop to show the species we observed. On the return of the turtles we took our time to look for species the other guide(s) passed in speed to return. Hugo is very nice, and responsive. We had the chance to observe studs, sloths, the 3 monkeys living on the coast, 1 quail, many birds and lizards, frogs, boa, turtles, insects, bats, iguanas, and I probably forget some.

Great visit to the lagoon of Tortuguero with the friend Hugo who speaks perfect French... Pick-up in the morning at the hotel for the visit of the lagoon over the river, quiet, boat, we were able to approach, by oar, the Caymans, the basilicas Jesus Christ, heard the scream of screaming monkeys and saw posh savacous... Then we were able to watch the turtles being laid at night thanks to Hugo... It was very nice, we recommend!

One of the most beautiful moments spent in Costa Rica. Hugo, who is charming, made us discover by canoe all aspects of the Tortuguero National Park, he showed us plethora of animals (lazy, crocodile within a meter, boa constrictor, piles of birds, etc...). Superb moments spent with Hugo (canoeing and night walk), he went to great lengths to make us discover as many cayman animals as possible piano birds, iguanas, esmerald basil, frogs, snakes , butterflies, toucans, leaf grasshoppers, golden spider, and I forget so many we saw different varieties. We made the canoe tour in the morning at 9am. Meet me at the pier. Let's go for a walk of more than 2.5 hours with Hugo. We have seen many animals caiman, capuchin monkeys, lizard, iguana, basil including full of babies and many birds duck and herons. He took the time to answer all our questions and those of the children even though he had already explained. He lent us each great binoculars to see better and always sought to be as close as possible with the best angle for photos. A great morning. We highly recommend

We went canoeing with Hugo early in the morning and in the evening he took us for a night walk and observation as close as possible to the laying of a turtle. If you want a visit in French with a very experienced guide with a lynx eye to spot even the most invisible animals, one name: HUGO!!! A perfect day!

We took the canoe tour and the night ride with Hugo who speaks very good French. Thanks to him, we were able to observe during our canoe tour: basilicas, crocodile, caimans, iguanas, and many birds! As for the night walk, we saw the must-see red-eyed frogs, two sloths, a snake, spiders, basilicas, caterpillars, two sleeping toucans, iguanas, vultures and, finally, the highlight of the show: an armadillo! I recommend these two tours with the guide Hugo who has an eye for finding you animals by giving you a lot of information about them, all in good humor and with a lot of humor!
