Tortuguero canoe tour is a guided excursion that takes you through the canals and lagoons of Tortuguero National Park, using a canoe. It is a silent and non-invasive walk through the Tortuguero canal system. A local guide and naturalist accompanies you, sharing his knowledge about the biodiversity of the area. You will see the lush rainforest surrounding the canals, as well as a variety of wildlife. It is common to spot monkeys, alligators, crocodiles, different species of birds, sloths and hopefully manatees and dolphins.
Our original guide forgot about us. We had to search for someone to help us. They located our guide who eventually showed up only to dump us on another guide. Our second guide was good, telling us about the area and the plant and animal life in the canals. We enjoyed canoeing through the swamp areas.
When we were in Tortuguero, we were looking for a tour guide in the park + for the Turtle watching. Angél was so nice and humble and friendly so we booked with him. Both activities were super amazing. It was very well organised, the price was very fair. The guides are local which is important to me, and the length was perfect. We experienced some amazing moments with the guides, I would 100% recommend them.
We had a fantastic night tour and were taken into a jungle area, which was exciting. We saw Red eyed frog, porcupine, armadillo and the knowledge of our guide was so good. The next morning, we went on an electric powered kayak, and this enabled us to go further and also enabled us to go into the small canals, that bigger boats can't get in to. Plenty of wildlife out there, from birds to caimen, Monkeys. So much fun. Thank you for making our stay in Tortuguero a special memory.. Catharine and Kieran.
I did 3 tours with Tortuguero life tours and the first one was Cannoe. We started at 6:45 am and we were lucky with the whether, Abel the guide, led us into amazing river canals where we were able to see caimans, various type of birds, turtles and even bats! The speciality of our guide was animal sound mimic which made some species actually answer back! Always worried about the group, super friendly guide and a tour shop that you can trust finding the best guide for you with super accessible prices!

We made 3 separate bookings with Engel which were all splendid! Day 1 we took a canoe trip into Tortuguero National Park with Pablo, who was amazing! We spotted a whole family of howler monkeys.. Pablo called to them and they answered.. went quite close to 2 caymans, saw multiple turtles, a spider monkey, iguanas and many birds. Engel provided us with umbrellas which were very useful for the sun. Day 2 one of us went on a fishing tour again with Pablo, caught a gar fish and saw many others, again a special experience. Day 3 Engel organised transfer from Tortuguero door to door of our next lodging in Cahuita. This involved a 3 hour boat trip to Moin then a taxi pick up. This all went smoothly and we saw a GIANT crocodile basking on the river bank. I recommend Engel and Tortuguero Life Tours most highly!
Really nice company, the owner made sure everything is on time and as good as possible. The personel spoke good english and took time to explain everything. On the night walk we managed to see a lot of animals with a local guide. It is a small local company putting lot of care to meet the expextations.

Pablo, our guide, born, bred & loves Torteguero. Full of info of flora & fauna. Knows how to find the cayman croc. We did the nightwslk with him too. So good. He can spot a red eye tree frog with his eyes closed!
These guys saved our morning when the company we booked with couldn't make it. Our captain Rabat showed us many animals, like caymans, jesus lizard, herons, iguanas, piano bird and more. We could take many pictures from good angles.
Very good experience with Angel Mendoza. Despite many rain showers during the canoe trip many birds, iguanas, other animals, waterfowl, insects and plants, a small caiman and a howler monkey seen. Engel knew all the names and more information. Thanks for this super interesting trip.

2-hour tour with a French guide, Hugo. He took the time to explain everything we saw (fauna and flora). He was very respectful of nature, made sure that our adventure was as immersive as possible, and that magic worked. We paid 30$ (~25€) per person, and it was worth them! Small tip: make the visit early in the morning (6am) to see as many animals as possible.
Fantastic tour with super good guide Pablo Kano tour with electric motor is quite ingenious so you get further into the rainforest. We saw lots of animals - thanks to Pablo who spotted kaimans and turtles and lots of birds. Definitely a recommendation from here👍
Great canoe trip with incredible wildlife. We saw caimans, different monkey species, turtles, a lot of different birds, iguanas, lizards. Thanks to E-canoe we were also allowed into the small side arms. Pablo our guide was super nice and explained to us all the animals and also some about the development of Tortuguero. We did the canoe tour and seen the positive experience in the evening we also booked the night walking tour. Both experiences were amazing , we spotted a lot of animals the guides were very experienced and knowledgeable and spoke both English and Spanish. I definitely recommend you to rely on them!

We went by canoe from Tortuguero Village to the national park and the adventure started right away with the first bird and iguana sightings. Our guide Leeroy had eagle-eyes 😉 The tour went to the park and also into small side channels, was not too strenuous, was fun and informative - highly recommended!
A few days ago we met Engel in Tortuguero and decided to hire the turtle spawning tour and the canoe tour through the Tortuguero canals. Best prices in the area. In the first, with Ruibert as our guide, we could see the spawning of a green turtle and learn more about those animals. Along the way we saw a frog, a possum, a snake and a sloth. On the second tour, with Joel as guide, we could appreciate the fauna and flora of the turtle trails. On both tours there was always a lot of respect for the ecosystem. We would repeat without hesitation
