Canoe Experience Exploring Tortuguero National Park

Andrews told us a lot about the animals we saw during the tour. We saw caiman, sloth, several birds (including a very rare herron). It was raining a little bit, but Andrews still found the animals.

We did two amazing tours with Andrews: the first one was the Jaguar Trail and the second one was a canoe tour in the canals. Andrews was great at spotting animals in places where you wouldn't ever look in. We saw caimans, sloths, tons of different birds and reptiles! He was very knowledgeable about any animal and also about any question we had about Tortuguero population. Highly recommended!!

Amazing experience! We did a canoe tour for ~2.5h hours in the channels, sometimes in really tiny canels which was a nature experience in itself. Andrw spoke good English, for us who don't know any Spanish. Additionally he had good wildwatching eyes & knowledge about the animals and the Tortuguero area. We saw a lot of wildlife up close, including several kaymans, a crocodile swimming, different kind of birds, spider and howler monkeys, leguanas and Jesus christ lizard. We are a family of four, two kids 13 and 10 years old.

Andrws was a great tour guide, loads of knowledge about all the animals of which we saw lots! A really fun morning exploring some of the national park and being on the small boat meant we could get up close. Would highly recommend and you’ll be in great hands with Andrws.

We did the turtle, kanu and walking tour. We had an amazing time and saw a lot of animals in the water and in the water. Thanks Andrew!

This is a young local guy who grew up in this jungle. He knows every tree and especially every insect, mamal and bird. If you want to be surprised by his knowledge about the local ecosystem, plants, insects, history of the Tortuguero village and see a lot of cool and rare animals (we had 12 on the walking tour and 14 on the canoe tour), than Andrews is your man. If you don't choose Andrews, then please, please pick a local guide from the extraordinary Tortuguero community.

My dad and I spent 3 hours on the most magical rainforest tour with Andrws! Andrws was so kind, very knowledgeable about the flora and the wildlife, patient with all of my dad's questions, and took us into some special isolated places where we could just sit quietly and just *be*. His enthusiasm for nature is contagious! So much so that we ended up booking a walking tour with him in the park for later that day. Highly recommend doing both! On the canoe tour, we saw 20+ species, which included many cool birds, 2 types of monkeys, iguanas, a blue morpho butterfly, a caiman, bats and so much more! Pro tip: Take the early morning tour. The animals are more active, especially if the weather's decent :)

Andrew is a really nice guy with great knowledge of Costa Rica's nature. It was a wonderful, relaxing ride with him through the national park and he showed us many different animals. Definitely recommended

We did a night tour and morning canoe tour and both were amazing!!!! We saw so much wildlife, more than with other guides i think after talking to others. Andrws was so friendly, informative and enthusiastic we loved it! Would 100% recommend 😊

We had an amazing tour with Andrws and can really recommend it to everyone! We booked a canoe tour and the night walk and had both of them alone with him (we were 4 persons). It’s important for him to be a smaller group so everyone can have the same experience and doesn’t miss out on anything. He knows a lot about the animals we saw and was excited as we were to see them. He combined it with small anecdotes which made you remember the facts even more. You could notice that he loves his job and sharing his past experiences and knowledge. He was funny, friendly and a great guy to talk to. Not only about nature but about life in Costa Rica. Overall it was a very funny and interesting Tour, we couldn’t be happier!

Was lucky to have Andrew as my tour guide for my tours in Tortuguero. Andrew is super nice and friendly. He was passionate to make sure we make the most of the tour and see plenty of animals. He's explanations were prefect for us, informative but not too lengthy and was happy to answer our questions and encouraged us to try and tell different species using his books. The first tour I did with him was the night tour which was stunning with tons of sightings and had a great vibe to it. We were a small group of 3 so it felt really personal and nice. I enjoyed the night tour so much I asked the booking office to also book Andrew for the next day Canoeing Tour. Again it was a great experience, we were a small group of 4 this time and Andrew made sure each got good sightings and heard his explanations despite the challenging of guiding while paddling a canoe. I highly recommend Andrew and his tours!!

We had a night tour with Andrws and it was amazing! He has a keen eye for every animal in the forest and an absolutely enormous pool of knowledge about flora and fauna. Singe I really wanted to see an armadillo, he put extra effort to find them and in the end succeeded! Other animals we found were porcupines, leaf insects, bullfrogs, two species of snakes, a sloth and many more. Definitely recommended!

Excellent tour guide, wonderful knowledge of the history of tortuguero, but not overwhelming. We saw three camen, and various herons, howler monkeys and a turtle and it wasn’t even turtle season! Would strongly recommend. A polite, kind, helpful and generous host.

It was a wonderful experience. Andrws is a local and has a lot of knowledge about the area and the animals. He is very friendly, funny and takes time for you. We had a really nice tour where we saw a lot of animals like the red-eyed frog and multiple sloths!

Andrws is a very friendly guy and extremely enthusiastic about nature. He really loves it and you can tell - he would be canoeing or walking through the park even if he wasn't getting paid for it. We saw everything we wanted to see. Toucans, Caymans, Howler Monkeys, the rare Blue Boat Billed Heron, and a lot of mushroom. Andrws has an eagle eye and could spot things extremely quickly. The tour was very intimate, with only my girlfriend and I on the canoe with him. It was inspiring to be around someone so passionate about wildlife. Would highly recommend!

Andrew is the most amazing and passionated guide I have met in all Costa Rica. We shared my favourite experience there in Tortuguero on his kayak for this tour among beauty of nature and wildlife. He loves to share his (crazy) knowledge, really want you to spend a nice experience in this beautiful place, he is fluent in english, nice person to meet. Andrew is an exceptional guide, he facilitated the tours for us at all times, the canoe one was a very extensive personalized tour through the mangroves and since it is in a boat without a motor it reaches points that cannot be reached with a larger boat, he has extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna and is a very well-trained and informed local, I definitely recommend him for a deep vision of Tortuguero.

Andrew is very friendly, he brought us anecdotes about the site and the animals we met. Choosing your services means enjoying a moment of calm without engine noise that would scare the animals away. The place is beautiful. Unfortunately we went out in the rain , which did not allow us to see many animals. Provide a rain cape if the weather is uncertain! Expect also to buy the park tickets on the Sinac website, as they are not on sale at the ticket counter but only online. Buy them with the mention "canal", because there are 2 entrances to the park. Unwise chill and nice trip. We had overslept and were late, I also forgot to buy the SINAC tickets. Really those things that can ruin the whole atmosphere. This absolutely did not happen, Andrws was patient and came with a mean smile to pick us up to continue. He felt the vibe well without any sales pitches in between, which you heard a lot with other tour guides. Genuinely just a fine guy. I would absolutely recommend him. Especially for people who like to take good pictures (!)

We visited the Tortuguero area with Andrws and it was the best decision. Super competitive prices, great knowledge of the ecosystem, predisposed and friendly. For example, on the canoe tour of the canals we went with him alone, being able to enter narrow canals where he showed us most of the biodiversity. All this, being able to ask him questions all the way, having answers for all. Pure life Andrws, you don't Andres!

We toured the tortoise canals hoping to see animals, and thanks to the guides we saw iguanas, alligators, herons, spider monkeys, sloths, lizards... The guides gave us a lot of curious facts about flora and fauna to turn the experience into something exceptional. On the way it rained but they were very kind lending us ponchos. I don't even want to imagine what it would be possible to see in better weather.

Yesterday we were out with Andrew, and it was just fantastic! He showed us exactly where the animals were and knew each of them – his expertise and the wealth of information he shared with us made the tour an unforgettable experience. Andrew speaks perfect English, which made communication super pleasant. At first it was a bit difficult to spot the animals ourselves, but thanks to Andrew's trained gaze we could see an incredible number. Especially the trip by kayak was a highlight. I would recommend Andrew to anyone without hesitation! So far the best Tour Guid undisclosed!

We did the tour with Andrw and we recommend it 100%. You can tell that he is passionate about what he does and knows a lot. It was one of the best times in Costa Rica. Andrew welcomed us very warmly at the jetty. In the evening we went straight on a night hike. Andrew showed us the nocturnal animal world of CR. We didn't expect such diversity. Andrew explained everything to us in detail. We would gladly go on tour with Andrew again at any time. My girlfriend and I have already been on a few guided tours on our Costa Rica tour, but the canoe tour through Tortuguero National Park with Andrews was a real highlight of our stay that we will remember fondly! Andrews' fascination with the flora and fauna, about which he has a great deal of knowledge, is infectious and you can feel that he, as well as us, is genuinely moved by discovering rare animals or experiencing the unique nature of the park. Andrews treats the animals with great respect and makes it a point not to subject them to any unnecessary stress despite our presence. We can highly recommend a tour with him and are very grateful to have had this opportunity!

The trip was amazing, Andrews is really knowledgeable and knows about the Island's history, the canals and beautiful spots on them, and all the species around. He is also a nice person so that made the trip even better! We were able to spot 16 different species and he explained everything about them to us and even fully stopped so we could take nice pictures! We were traveling with a 6y/o autistic kid and he made a couple accommodations so my son would be fully comfortable and have no sensory issues. It was the best tour ever. The trip was incredible. Andrews has incredible knowledge regarding the park, the canals, wonderful places within the canals, the history of the island and all the species on it. He is a wonderful person and that made the trip much better and more enjoyable! We were able to see 16 different species of animals and he explained everything about them to us, even stopping completely so we could take good photos! We traveled with a small 6-year-old autistic child, my son, who was delighted with Andrews who made accommodations so that my little one was comfortable and did not have sensory problems. It was the best tour of life.

A wonderful tour with Andrew who is a guide of a communicating and particularly radiant energy in this exceptional environment. Raised at dawn, we were able to observe a diverse flora and fauna and enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Tortuguero canals. Friendly and friendly young guide. Speaks great English and went to great lengths to speak Spanish with me so I could practice. On the canoe trip he handed me over to a colleague who still had a place available on the pretext that he was sick. Since I ran into him several times that day (as he sold tours to others), this was probably a good idea, because a tour with one person was not worth it. I understand, but I don't like to be lied to. I also booked a night tour with him. We were 8 people, which was too much. He often asked if everyone had seen the animal, but this was not the case with the moving animals. He also ran away quite hectic and fast all the time in front, so it was stressful to come after - probably it was only well-intentioned to discover as many animals as possible. But there are many tours at night, so you stand between many other guides and tourists with flashlights. I had imagined it to be more exciting.

Andrws is really great: personable, competent, professional, customer-oriented/helpful. We can highly recommend him to everyone! We did the canoe tour with him and were able to discover many animals that we certainly would not have seen without him. He offers several tours, if we had more time on site we would have liked to have done more with Andrews.

Wonderful private tours by land, water and night. Partly he showed us corners that only locals know. Andrews has an incredible amount of inkling and was able to explain something to us about everything. Highly recommended, always again!!!

The canoe trip with Andrews was just awesome! Only my girlfriend and he were on board and we paddled across the national park and could observe the animals up close! Andrews has an enormous knowledge of wildlife and can provide information and explain it very well in Spanish and English. He also offers even more tours. So we booked the night tour and the one to Tortuguero Hill with him. Especially the latter has flashed us extremely and should not be at any Tortuguero trip missing. Thank you Andrews!
