Walk up the mountain is strenuous. The view at the top is beautiful. The beach is beautiful but they charge for chairs.

John was a great guide giving us history and botanical details as we made a fairly easy hike. The drive was steep, but the views were amazing.
John was our tour guide for the 1/2 day experience. He was knowledgeable, respectful and fun to spend time with as we learned more about the history of Tortola.
This tour was truly exceptional. A lot of ground is covered comfortably in the A/C van, and our guide, David, was wonderfully informative—sharing insights about local plants, charming stories, and keeping a close eye on all eight guests during the easy, short hike. He was attentive to the group’s pace, especially since most participants were 60+, and checked in anytime he heard someone exerting themselves to ensure everyone was managing the downhill trail and return climb safely. We enjoyed a lovely break at a historic sugar mill with a selection of packaged fruit and fruit juices before continuing on to a still‑operating sugar cane distillery. From there, we headed up to Skytop for stunning 360° views of the surrounding islands, with additional scenic stops along the way for photos overlooking the port and our cruise ships. A well‑planned, well‑executed tour from start to finish.
A great walk for mobil people.. Not too arduous but there is some uneven ground and boulders so good shoes are essential. We were met by our tour guide, David. He was very kind and knowledgeable about flora and fauna and their medicinal uses. He drove very carefully as the road on the trip to the mountain were quite narrow, but David was good fun. After our walk we were given some cold cloths ro refresh before having a delicious pot of fresh fruit each. The tour progressed up to the Skywalk from where we had fantastic views of all of the surrounding islands, the names of which David knew by heart. Apparently, on a clear day you can see Puerto Rico on the horizon from here. We then proceeded to a very old rum distillery for rum tasting before returning to the ship via a lovely, scenic drive along the coast. A great morning outing. I would certainly recommend this trip which we booked through Trip Advisor and Viator.
David the guide was knowledgeable and kind. It was as much a naturalist tour as it was a mild hike in the forest.
This tour was not what I expected from other reviews or experiences shown In photos, starting off that I called the day of our arrival to confirm meeting time as there was none listed, our tour seemed to be a surprise to whomever I spoke to so off to a not so great start we made our way and met up with our tour guide at “Beans” coffee shop He did share with us this was a last minute arrangement for him but he would do his best to give us the best experience possible. We were picked up in what seemed to be his personal vehicle and didn’t sign any waivers or anything, but trying to keep our hopes high as there were other excellent reviews, we continued. Our guide John was very knowledgable on the botany and greenery of the area, as well as mount healthy and its history. We trekked steep uphill and downwards around the mountain exploring tortola's beautiful views. We did catch cray fish in the river, but if you were expecting a waterfall or anything else pictured, we were caught off guard. We skipped breakfast as a meal and natural fruits and juices were advertised, but on our "short" notice were unavailable as the chef was not answering the phone. We were still taken to a beautiful restaurant with delicious fresh plantain chips and cauliflower bites, as well as fresh soursop juice. The view from here was breathtaking! For the record, we completely understand there could have been some type of mix up, however we booked the tour two months prior to our vacation date. It was not a very last minute or spontaneous thing as it felt our tour was. He did take many photos for us which was great We were brought back by the port right on time as we arrived at about 12:45/1 and had to be back by 2.
Our guide was fantasic, really knowledgable and very patient and fun with our 5 year old. Was great to see the real culture of the island.
This trip was so informative! Our guide, Johnathon did an excellent job teaching us about the island, the vegetation, and had many fun stories he shared as well. He was quick to take pictures for us and helped the person unable to traverse the path whenever needed with such grace. Thanks for a wonderful tour.
It was fantastic! John was a great tour guide. I loved all the special details about the plants, and the cold wash clothes at the end was delightful
Private tour just my wife and I. Kahliim did a great job giving us a tour of Road Town. The hike is not challenging but it has some areas that might test your balance, steep downhill and rocky terrain. Essentially you follow a cow trail down into the valley and learn about native plants and flora. The highlight is seeing Dynamite Trees. A great 2.5 hours to see the natural side of Tortola.
What a beautiful day in Tortola! My guide Kahlim was both courteous and knowledgeable. We were able to see the start of the process of sugar cane being processed into rum at Callwood Distillery and so many types of plants and trees on a beautiful short hike in Mount Healthy.
Sef was an excellent guide! He led us on a beautiful path through the forest on Mt Healthy. He was very knowledgeable about Tortola, the native plants and trees, explaining the many ways they are used to keep people healthy. It was fun to have fresh coconut water, only minutes after it was on the tree! The views he showed us were amazing. It was a great experience, and we would highly recommend it!
Kileen very knowledgeable friendly great answering questions very helpful fruit and lemonade was great
We enjoyed our trip with Kaleem. There was a good variety....some walking, some driving and a great 360 degree look out spot. There were a couple of historic sites too. Kaleem told us a lot about the interesting plants and trees on our walk. The only thing I wanted to mention for people deciding on whether this is the right tour for them is that it really wasn't a hike, it was a short walk along a cow path in the forest (so great for kids). Overall, Kaleem made it interesting and fun and we got to see quite a bit of the island so we're glad we did this tour instead of just going to a beach.
Our excursion from the cruise ship was cancelled. We found this tour ourselves. We're glad the original one was cancelled. This was a great experience. Informative. Educational. Kahliim was an excellent tour guide. We learned a lot about Tortola and survived the drive on the wickedly steep hills! It was a great day.
David was a wonderful guide that showed us a lot of different plants and explained what their leaves and bark are used for medicinally. Very interesting. Only suggestion would be to take a walking stick if you have any kind of knee issues as there's a lot of loose terrain.
We had a great hike with our guide Sef. He told us a lot about Tortola, the history and the people and took us on a beautiful hike with stunning Mountain views. He was a great guide!
We came in on a Cruise Ship to Tortola - Road Town. My 25 year old son and myself had booked a tour through Sef at Hike BVI. I booked it through the website and then communicated over WhatsApp from Canada. It was seamless. Absolutely a great experience, even in the rain and mud. It was a torrential downpour. We are from Vancouver Canada and used to rain, came with are Vessi water proof hiking shoes- my plug for a Vancouver based company. Our Guide,Kahliim, was energetic, knowledgeable very enjoyable to be with. We had a wonderful hike. Trust these guys, they are reliable and fun. Best reference I can give…. Is I would trust this company again for any of there tours. The hike itself requires ability to climb on trails that can be rocky. It is not too long, we walked about 2 hours. Not one if you have climbing issues, hip issues and if you do not have proper footwear.
We thoroughly enjoyed our hike! It was not too strenuous, which was great on a really hot and humid day. We learned so much from Sef and his assistant and they really made sure we learned a lot and had fun. The drinks and fruit at the end were a great way to relax and get to know them better, and ask any questions we had. Highly recommended!
Siff was very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommendhim to anyone visiting the island.
Kaleem was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. We learned about many of the plants and some animals on the island. The hike was misnamed. I would call it a nature walk. The hike was a very, very short distance, but we learned a lot. We walked in total, maybe less than half a mile. Still Kaleem was great.
Fun nature hike, learned about different plants and their medicinal purposes, the cultures of the island and rum tasting.
We all had a great time! It was the first & only botany lesson my kids have ever enjoyed! Kahliim was full of knowledge about Tortola botany and culture. My husband even mentioned it as a highlight from our week-long cruise trip!
This was a lovely, easy hike - about 1.25 miles round trip. The guide was great at plant identification and telling us about Tortola. He was very knowledgeable. The fruit at the end was good and the lemonade particularly noteworthy - a definite fan favorite.
Extraordinary nature on this hike. Saw the historic Mt Healthy sugar mill and learned so much about the cool nature in BVI. Especially loved the tarantula that came out of the hole!
Our Tortola Nature Hike tour was an excellent, informative hike with our guide Kahliim. He was confident, knowledgeable and sociable during the entire hike. He especially interacted well with our kids and made special effort to include them and their interests, taking extra time to enjoy Crayfish hunting at the stream. The hike was not strenuous but did include some steep, but short, traverse sections. The time frame fit well for our kids and wasn't long enough to lose their attention and enjoyment. The value was acceptable, though more serious adventurers may find it a bit on the short side.
We signed up for the Mt. Healthy hike tour on Tortola. The weather did not cooperate that day, due to the rain our guide Sef changed the itinerary to include a tour of the prison museum which was very interesting, the governors mansion, and a rum distillery. We drove to the top of Mt. Healthy instead of hiking to see the historic distillery. We loved learning about the history and culture of the island from Sef, he is clearly passionate about his home. The views were incredible!
Five star tour and tour guide! Met our guide, Seth, at Beans on the pier in Tortola. Very friendly and excited to show us a good hike. After sizing up our fitness ability, Seth asked if we wanted to do a slightly more difficult route. We were game so off we went. Seth gave us some information about the island as we drove to the trail head. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his home. The hike itself was incredible. Slightly challenging and so fun. I highly recommend this hike and this tour guide! The Beverage and snack provided was thoughtful and refreshing. We felt well taken care of and safe at all times. At the end of the hot hike we were given cool towels scented with lemongrass, a classy touch. We would definitely use this group again.
Private Hike... just the two of us and two guides. We had a great hike into the forested areas of Tortola with lots of good information on the local ruins, plants, trees, herbal remedies, animals and traditions. The rain did not dampen our hike, which was followed by a guided ride around the island to get some good photos. Highly recommend David and Khaliim as guides. They were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.
We loved this hike! Both guides were knowledgeable & personable. Just a couple of tricky spots, but not really "strenuous". It was in the morning, but it was pretty hot by the time we were done (tree cover was a blessing). Refreshments at the end were appreciated.
We loved this hike -- both guides were so personable and shared their knowledge of the flora & fauna of Tortola -- there were a couple of tricky spots where you had to walk sideways or hang on to tree limbs to steady yourself, but I wouldn't characterize it as strenuous. We were glad it was in the morning, as it was getting pretty hot by the end (grateful for being under the canopy of trees most of the time). The fresh lemonade, fruit, and lemongrass towels were such a treat at the end. I'd definitely recommend.
We booked this private excursion while on a cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the information on both the drive and nature hike. We learned a lot about the island and saw some beautiful scenery. David was a wonderful tour guide and we had a very pleasant morning. Not strenuous at all. Would recommend and book again.
We did the Bamboo Meadows hike for my daughter’s 9th birthday. It was fun and informative and we both learned so much. Our guide was knowledgeable and nice. We both are looking forward to going on more adventures with Hike BVI!
We did this hike on Dec 24, 2023. We were really worried leading up to it that they would cancel because it Christmas Eve Day. They didn't!!! It was super easy to meet up with Seph at the cafe in the cruise ship port. We did stick out because of our hiking boots. It was because of those boots that Seph mentioned that we had booked an easy hike but that he would be happy to take us on something a bit harder if we wanted. We were so glad we took the harder hike. He showed us some great vantage points in the park. He had great knowledge about the trees and plants as well. We realized part way through our hike that the stick he was waving around was to clear spider webs for us! Seph even brought a healthy snack of fruit and juice to have partway through. After our hike was over, we did a scenic drive back down to cruise port as well. We loved the workout and the views but what was probably the best part about this morning was to hear the pleasure and pride that Seph felt for his island and his willingness to share. This excursion is an 11! This was the highlight excursion of our cruise and we would do it again.
Great little trip with Kaleem who shared lots of his general knowledge and love for the local national park. Also took us to rum distillery which was great too. Thank you Kaleem and Hike BVI... Felt very safe and comfortable with you.
What I liked most about the tour was it was different and small. It really made it more enjoyable to hike and see nature and learn about the country without being surrounded by lots of people, Seth was so gracious and learned a lot about the BVIs.
Really enjoyed the tour with Seth. He was incredibly helpful during the tour, and I will be forever indebted to him.
Amazing and informative hike ! My wife and I enjoyed learning about the native plants and trees and seeing some local wildlife. Thank you, Sef! Looking forward to next time.
Sef was a fantastic guide for our family group of six. He took us to Sage Mountain National Park and provided a lot of insight about life on Tortola. The drive up provided many breathtaking views of the island. Sef truly loves his home of Tortola and was proud to share with us some of the beauties it contains. He shared many interesting facts about the park, plants and wildlife and made the experience enjoyable for everyone. We would recommend this excursion to everyone. The one-on-one attention, the information shared about the island and the breathtaking views made this a fun and unique experience that we will not forget.
Out of all of our booked excursions this one was the absolute BEST!. Sef, our guide met us at the local coffee shop, on time. He wowed all of us from ages 15-65 with his knowledge, kindness and professionalism. We know that he went the extra mile for us by taking us to various scenic locations after our hike in the forest of beautiful Tortola. My teenagers were mesmerized by his ability to teach them how to coax tarantulas out of their underground habitat to temporarily capturing giant crawfish and hermit crabs! He taught us how to start a fire using what was on hand and knew about all of the plants and trees in the area. The forest was his playground as a kid. We will be forever grateful for his ability to answer all of our questions and provide us with his "personal" knowledge of this beautiful tropical island.
Fantastic tour with island local, Sef. He provided lots of information on the forest hike- history, plant life, survival skills, and more! Sef added many personal touches - stories of growing up on the island, delicious fruit snacks, and a strong hand to hold while crossing over rocks and climbing inclines. Sef even took pictures along the hike that he shared with us - a special extra for our anniversary celebration!! A VERY NICE and genuine young man. We enjoyed the perfectly challenging hike through the Mt Healthy Park and the company of our new friend, Sef! When sharing our experience with friends on the cruise ship, our excursion with Sef exceeded all that they had booked with the cruise. Our experience in Tortola was exceptional! Thank you!
Very good tour I highly recommend. Very impressive and interesting. Best hiking tour.. level 3 is the most recomendable..
I had been in Tortola two other times and found it beautiful but nothing special. But this hike in the national park with my grandchildren turned out to be the best way for the young teenagers to hike and see nature. The guides explained many of the vegetation we viewed and explained. I appreciated the guides assistance when as a grandparent needed some assistance on the trail since parts were slippery due to the earlier rain. If you are no into beaches and enjoy nature with an adventure hike, this tour is well worth your time.
Seth was a welcoming and knowledgeable guide! We enjoyed seeing Mount Healthy Natl Park and learning about the native plants. The pick up and drop off area was close to the ship. A refreshing snack after the hike and a drive through downtown was an added bonus.
From start to finish, Sef was incredible guide for our 4-person private tour, comprised of all adults. Our adventure started at an easy-to-find coffee shop by the cruise port, and he then drove us to Mount Healthy in an air-conditioned truck, where water bottles awaited us. We shared with Sef that we were interested in the Island's history and culture, as well as the local nature. He was able to curate the conversation and the full tour around these interests. Sef took time with us along the hiking trail to make sure we were safely navigating the route. During our conversation, he picked up on the fact that we liked survivalist shows, so took time to demonstrate primitive fire making skills. Lemonade and fresh fruit awaited us after the hike, and he additionally took us to a rum distillery by request, as our tour was on the one day a year that the sugar cane was being processed. Thank you Sef, for making our time on Tortolla a trip to remember!
The tour was fun and surprisingly educational! The guide Seth was very knowledgeable on the island of Tortola and the flora and fauna. It was an overall great experience and the end with a delicious local lunch and lemonade with a cool towel made the difference. Will certainly recommend to all ages and I would do all of his other tours as well!
Amazing tour! The guide was accommodating to my friend and catered the tour to my interests and activity level! He was knowledgeable about the natural landscape and history. We got some great pictures and it was so fun! 10/10 all around!
What a magnificent tour. The guide was extremely knowledgable on the flora and fauna of the area. He enlightened us on what was edible and those whoch were dangerous. Theocal cuisine that were provided at the end of the hike really added a nice cultural touch.
My wife and I chose this hike / tour because the one offered on our cruise was booked. I am thankful for our first choice being taken as this opened us up to an amazing experience with two wonderful gentlemen who guided us through the forest. They were exceptionally knowledgeable about the vegetation on the Island and explained how watching nature can give clues to what is coming. We began with a hike. We saw trees that protected themselves and exploded seeds to ensure the seedlings did not reproduce by the main tree. “Everything competed for sunlight.” I loved the fact we were quizzed at every turn on what we were seeing. We saw fresh water and a natural ecosystem of filtration of saltwater to fresh water. I only fell three times on the hike. I would say the terrain is moderate and a lot of loose gravel / dirt, but the support from the staff was great. The terrain is not wheelchair accessible. But if one is ambulatory it will be fine. As advertised there was refreshments after the hike. We also explored a rum making factory still using sugar cane. This location has a self contained eco system as well. Overall, this tour was fantastic. Highly recommended.
