Absolutely horrendous service! They changed the pick-up location and sent us an email about this change a few hours before we landed, so we were unable to check as we had a 20-hour flight. The new location was nowhere remotely close to where we selected or where we were staying. We somehow made it work, but there was nobody to help us set it up, so we spent 2 hours testing different APN settings, and going back and forth with their customer support, who simply told us to copy the settings on their website. After 5 days of desperately relying on the limited selection of public wifi access, we gave up and opted to go with another simcard company, which worked immediately. We are currently in an ongoing dispute for a refund due to non-existant service. They can see we have used zero mobile data and are still insisting it is our fault, despite the 2nd company's simcard working immediately. They're a complete scam!

Great, but the family needs to stick together if they want to use the WiFi, which turned out a bit tricky sometimes. So I suggest two would be better. Also need charging fully every night, each element.
This is excellent! Great wifi and customer service! Me and my wife used it for 5 days and the plus you can charge your phone when you outside!
Beware! I loyally rented many times in the past, but the current situation has caused me to change my mind to find another WiFi provider on my next trip. I planned to pickup my device at Narita Airport JAL counter and the line was so long with about 30 groups in front of me. After standing for an hour, I was about to miss my ticketed train so I left without picking up the device and had to quickly figure out my WiFi plans. I explained this situation and requested a refund but Ninja wifi refused. Alternatively, they would send a device 2 days later with a delivery fee. I realize the congestion is with the JAL counter. However, a wait of over an hour to pick up a WiFi device is more than unacceptable when you are traveling and on a schedule.
Don't use them. They added insurance plan which I hadn't ordered. I wrote to them repeatedly to cancel- no replies. They eventually replied, but won't reimburse a service i didn't ask for and am not using.
I can't recommend their service. Bought online a 15-days unlimited SIM card a few days prior to my trip. I picked it up at their stand at Haneda airport, no problem so far. A few hours later, at the hotel, I try to set it up in my phone. I followed the instructions religiously and reread them multiple times to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I removed the SIM card and put it back in multiple times, rebooted my phone multiple times, tried both APN passwords (the one it was supposed to be and the other "default" one in the instructions leaflet), ... I must have spent an hour trying different things, but nothing did it. My mistake was trying to set it up at the hotel instead of at the airport, where I may be could've had support, or a new one. I stayed 2 weeks in Japan and in the end, the hotel wifi and the random free wifi in Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara or close to drugstores and coffee shops was good enough. It's a little bit inconvenient when you want to find well-reviewed restaurants nearby or translate something on the fly, but it's just that: a minor inconvenience. When I go back to Japan eventually, if I plan to stay in big or touristy cities, I won't look for an Internet plan of some sort. Don't need it enough. It just sucks I had to pay 70 CAD to learn this lesson.
I would use any other service after my experience. Incredibly difficult to find since their kiosk and even products are not branded Ninja WiFi but as global wifi. So I spent probably an hour looking for a kiosk that didn’t exist. When I had to ship it back to them they had advised me to commit mail and customs fraud by devaluing the products when declaring them in the package to avoid taxes.(a felony). Then when asked what the UNcode( identifies the type of lithium battery) they were completely unhelpful. Not to mention when asked what the replacement fee was it went from ¥48000 to ¥81000 in a matter of two emails. Because they “forgot to add a fee” Customer service takes a full 24hrs to respond with each email. If you’re thinking of using ninja wifi consider just paying roaming fees with your carrier. I got the WiFi router to use for school while abroad and it performed much slower than my phone hotspot.
Pickup was seamless and the product worked right away. We had excellent connectivity while visiting the Disney parks in Tokyo. Looking forward to using it for the remainder of our trip and returning it seems easy.
We reserved online for pickup @ Global WiFi Haneda Airport Terminal 3 when we arrived & it was very quick service for pickup. The clerks showed us how to load the password in to start the WiFi service. It is very convenient to have WiFi around Japan as getting around with a paper map can be more than a daunting chore with a lot of words in Japanese only. It is also convenient to drop-off the Ninja WiFi at any drop box all over the major airports in Japan. The drop boxes are located in and around the airports. (well marked) They give you directions in your pouch with the router box. It is well worth the investment if you visit Japan independently. Please note that our phones was locked by Verizon and this was the best alternative. Always check with your service provider to make sure you select the right option to obtain a portable router, physical Sim card or E-Sim card.
The wifi works well. Only problem is that the map of the location in the airport to drop off the device is incorrect. You drop it off at the same location as you pick it up.
Fast service. I just showed my reservation form and passport and got my WiFi right away and was provided instructions. We used the WiFi a lot and it is very reliable!
I’m pulling 8MBPS when only 1 device in use, in urban areas with good cell tower coverage. Absolutely unacceptable. It takes me 5 minutes to send a 15-second video. This is 2024, not 2004.
I rented a device from Ninja; the line to pick it up was super long in the morning. They should open earlier than 630 am. They cannot find your reservation by name, so be prepared. (you need to have the reservation number). You cannot open your email because the Haneda Airport Wifi does not work in their corner of the building. At least the lady at the counter allowed me to enter their wifi and retrieve my email with the reservation number. I found out later that the device was defective, and I immediately called them, but I could not get a replacement device because they said they could not deliver to my hotel before my departure and they did not deliver to my destination (Hokkaido) either. I am now in the process of trying to get a reimbursement. If I get a reimbursement, I will change my rating.
It's an ongoing experience but we've been using the Ninja router for 3 days now with no problems whatsoever. The device we got has enough battery for the whole day so no need to charge it. The only drawback (irrelevant to the product) is the customer service during pickup at Haneda airport. Our airline changed our departure date and we showed up a day early to pickup. They couldn't find our reservation!
Our flight was delayed an hour and a half, the driver did not speak English and was upset, the manager constantly sent us text messages saying that he would charge us more, it was a bad time since we spent two days to arrive and we found this. I don't recommend it, it's better to take a taxi and avoid these inconveniences
Can I rate a 4.5? Pick up went smoothly from Haneda. I was traveling with two other people and we all hooked up to the wifi easily. We had a strong signal pretty much the entire time, with service only dropping while hiking along Nakasendo (totally reasonable and way better than I expected). Device would generally last from 7am to 5pm or so before charging, not too shabby. Knocking off a point because we purchased the unlimited plan, but the service choked our usage at 3GB pretty much every day. You can get by on 3GB for sure, but know that it's not unlimited as advertised.
Good device. Works good so far. I wish the business sign was up where I could see from arrival area.
本当にすごいですよ。必要なものです。 We rented a Pocket WiFi from Ninja WiFi on both of our trips to Japan (via the Haneda Office) and it worked flawlessly each time. I would honestly say that this it's an essential purchase especially if you need Internet access on more than one device. We had two iPads, an iPhone and an Android phone using it constantly and it never once failed. Obviously if you are using it all day away from a charging point you should take a USB Powerbank as the battery might not get you through the whole day if it's being used constantly but these are so cheap to buy it's hardly an issue. Looks like this is a free service now so that's even better. The staff were helpful and friendly and were always very patient with my awful Japanese どうもありがとうございます。 The only tiny negative (and it's not Ninja WiFi's fault) is that I booked it through the JRPass.com site and a day's rental is morning to night NOT morning to next morning. As a result we booked it for a day less than we needed. However we got a free extension from JRPass.com and Ninja WiFi were very understanding. Just worth watching out for. Thoroughly recommended and we'll definitely book one again on our next visit. 何卒宜しくお願いします。
Booked Ninja WiFi online the day before we flew out to Haneda, Tokyo. Picked it up at the airport on arrival, friendly staff connected both our phones (you can connect up to 10 devices) to the router there and then and we were away with 5 mins. The service lasted the entire two weeks without a single loss of signal meaning we were able to access all our data throughout the whole trip across Japan, simply perfect, wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone travelling to Japan.
It worked flawless when we where in Tokyo. Unlimited data and fast speeds. Very recommended if you decide to visit Tokyo.
We been travelling in 5 of us I am a pokemon crazy and I have 3 daughter. We been using internet heavily and with the exception of the first day that after 3gb did slow down the speed the rest of days I didn't have any problems. One day I use up 8gb. I do recommend this product
Rented a router at the last minute before leaving, when a friend recommended Ninja by name. You pay up-front and can order online. It was just over £100 for unlimited data. There were a few different options but it's all very transparent on the website - you won't suddenly realise you're renting extra kit you don't need. The service desk at Haneda airport is a little bit hard to find, but the info is there on their website - second floor, near the subway lines. Ask around and someone ar the airport will know! And the wifi itself was just great. We went into three different pretty rural locations while we were in Japan (Nakasendo highway, Mount Koya and Hakone) and rarely any loss of coverage. Easy to drop the router etc off at the service desk when you return, and you get a couple of helpful reminders by email. All in all this was pretty fantastic, great experience, well worth the money. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Most of us think that in such a progressive country as Japan WiFi connection should be easy to get in public spaces. You can't go more wrong! Therefore you will need one of this magical gadgets you can carry with you and have wifi at all times. The speed and coverage is very good. The only downside is that the gadget runs out of batery pretty quickly I.e.with average use of only Google maps and WhatsApp after half a day you will need to recharge
