This tour is great! You get a very cool mix of different kinds of food, and you definitely feel like you’re getting a local’s perspective. Tosh was a great guide and I would highly recommend him to all!
We went with Kaz and Ken on the fish market tour and it was better than we could have imagined! Kaz was extremely knowledgeable about the history and was able to navigate us through the very busy market with ease. Each food spot was unique and he was even able to easily accommodate my fish allergy. He was very funny and we had a lot of great conversation. I couldn’t imagine coming to the fish market without doing this tour first; I would absolutely recommend!
Our guide, Keiji, was incredibly kind, friendly, and patient. He explained everything to us and even made extra stops at places that weren’t originally planned. He took us to some amazing places with great food and also shared interesting stories about the history of the area. We had such a great experience and I highly recommend booking a tour with Keiji!
My fiancé and I had an amazing time on this Tsukiji tour. Taiga and Max were fantastic guides, knowledgeable, funny, and clearly passionate about sharing their city. We learned so much about Japanese history, food, and culture, and we laughed the whole way through. They took us to spots we never would have found on our own, which made the experience special. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo.
Our tour guide was Tosh, super great tour and was very knowledgeable and funny. It was a really good time and we really enjoyed all of the food we got to try.
You can be sure to skip breakfast before this tour! Tosh and Yusuke did a fantastic job of taking us around the market and answering all of our questions along the way, and we were definitely full by the end of the tour. Tsukiji is a fish market, so be ready to try lots of seafood. For a seafood lover like me, this was a dream!
Great value and great food! Takes you to all the best places so you can avoid the tourist traps. Great value
Had an excellent Tsukiji market tour with Keiji. He was super knowledgeable and we gained a lot of historical insight along with tasting some amazing fish and treats! Would go again for sure.
We took the Tsukiji Market food tour with Food Ninja and unfortunately came away disappointed. Our guide was very friendly, punctual, and clearly trying his best. The issue was not the guide's attitude, but rather the content and value of the tour itself. This tour may be suitable for visitors who want a very basic introduction to Tsukiji, but it did not feel like the "expert" (or even an insider) experience that was advertised. We expected a guide with deep food knowledge who could introduce us to standout vendors and help us discover the market's best offerings. Instead, the tour felt very formulaic and scripted. Over the course of approximately two hours, we were served tamagoyaki, three small sashimi samples (amberjack, scallop, and scraped tuna), tuna nigiri (lean, medium-fatty, and fatty tuna), mochi, and a matcha drink. We were not allowed to make substitutions when we asked. The pacing was also disappointing. About an hour into the tour, we had only eaten the egg and sampled broth made from dashi powder at a shop that sells dashi products. Frankly, sampling instant dashi powder was not what I expected from Tsukiji Market. It felt more like something I would encounter in a supermarket than a world-famous food destination. Meanwhile, we walked past many of the foods that make Tsukiji famous—king crab legs, grilled wagyu, seasonal uni, and many other exciting specialties—but none of these were included. We left feeling like we had spent a substantial amount of money to eat some of the cheapest and least interesting items available in the market. Some of the food choices were also puzzling. The tuna sashimi was served with a packet of soy sauce and shared among strangers in the group. The sashimi platter itself was accompanied by bottled orange juice, which felt like an odd pairing. The tuna nigiri featured generous slices of fish, but the rice quality underneath was disappointing. The biggest issue was value. As a family of four, if we had simply taken the money we spent on this tour and explored Tsukiji ourselves, we could have tried dozens of different foods that caught our eye. We signed up for an "insider" tour because we expected efficiency—a knowledgeable guide who would help us cut through the noise and direct us to the absolute best food in the market. Instead, we found ourselves walking past many of the things that looked and smelled incredible while spending much of our time on inexpensive, basic items. In hindsight, we would have been better off simply following our noses, buying whatever looked exciting, and sampling far more of what Tsukiji has to offer. Even if we occasionally picked a dud, we could have moved on and tried something else while still spending less money overall. It would have been both a better value and, in our opinion, a more enjoyable experience. To be fair, there were a couple of positives. We were able to skip one line for tuna, and the guide showed us the rooftop seating area, which was useful. Again, he was a genuinely nice person. Ultimately, though, we felt we would have been better off exploring Tsukiji on our own. If you're looking for an in-depth food-focused tour led by someone with extensive culinary knowledge, strong local recommendations, and access to the market's best bites, this was not that experience.
Taiga hosted a very nice and easygoing tour for our group. We got to see a lot of the market and he shared a lot of interesting knowledge about Japans history and culture. Would highly recommend!
Our tour was with Keiji. I had high hopes based on the reviews online. We came hungry having read several reviews that said come hungry and be ready to eat! We missed breakfast and somehow our first “bite” of a sip of Daishi wasn’t until 10:30 am (tour started at 9). I felt our time would have been better spent in the market and trying all the delicious foods we were seeing rather than a side tour to the shrine. The food we got was less than what I read in other reviews and not as high quality picks - one of the things we were given was chopped tuna meant for chirashi bowls and not sashimi. I had read other groups had ramen, dumplings, and so many other dishes. Ours felt like a rip off and we felt we probably could have just led our own way through the market and did our own self tour. We didn’t feel that we learned anything new about the market, the people working there, or the specialty foods there. This was the tour I was most looking forward to and walked away highly disappointed. At the end of the tour Keiji asked if he could give us recommendations for our stay. We asked for recs in Ebisu and his “recommendation” was to ask someone on the street for a good izakaya. Overall Keiji was nice but I would hesitate to go on another Ninja Food tour.
Took us to some great foodstands and restaurants. The food was great and he gave us some great information and history about the area. Thank you Taiga
Taiga had an amazing tour and we enjoyed it immensly.
Great tour! Guide gave us a lot of history, context and insights. He orchestrated everything we ate. Totally hassle free. Skipped all lines, including the tuna tasting line which was long. Keiji was our guide. Great guide! Spoke great English. Was super nice to all 4 of us (me, my wife and daughters) and wanted to be sure we were having a good time. Highly recommend it!
It was great. Friendly, knowledgeable guide and great food! Our guide, Keiji, was fantastic
Kaz and his colleague were amazing guides and this tour was so tasty! We learned heaps and had a front row seat to some of the best places in the market. Highly recommended.
Kei ji was a great tour guide! Very personable and showed us some great spots. We had an amazing time at the fish market.
Taiga was amazing! We had so much fun. Not only did he take us to wonderful food spots that we never would have found on our own, but all of the fun stories of the history and culture helped us get such a great picture of the Tsukiji Market and Tokyo. We learned a lot and had a fabulous time doing it. He gave us so many recommendations for other restaurants and shopping tailored to what we like. Highly recommend this tour and Taiga as a guide!
Yusuke was a great guide and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this tour
Was a really nice tour with plenty of knowledge and food. Would highly recommend. Yusuke our guide was lovely and made it a memorable experience.
My husband attended this trip on his own and reported back that it was exceptional. His guide Kaz was full of local knowledge - not just food. The market area is incredibly busy and lines can be very long for the different places but being with Kaz meant there was no queueing. Every place the food was mouthwatering and varied. As with other Ninja Food Tours attended, the communication was excellent with the office team. I highly recommend this food tour company, every guide we had was knowledgeable and friendly, all the food spots amazing and when we return to Japan we ourselves will be booking onto more tours as they were the highlight of our trip.
Amazing experience! Kaz is a ninja! Cannot imagine navigating this extensive market without his expertise. He knew all the best places and we had a wide range of food/drinks and the best sushi in the market. His explanations of the history of the market and its unique offerings was intriguing. The small group set up makes this an ideal, very enjoyable experience. He also takes great photos to capture it for you. Highly recommend!!
Our tour was great. As son as we met our tour guid Kaz we knew that this was gonna be good. He showed us around the fish market for a bit, then after that he took us to eat. Everything we had was amazing . Katz had a great sense of humor which made the experience even better. Beside the rain the experience was overall a special experience.
Kaz was so wonderful! What a great tour!!
We had a lovely tour of the Tsukiji Fish Market with Keiji (host). He is very knowledgeable about the history of the market and we loved getting to know him on a more personal level as well. He was extremely thoughtful given my mothers dietary constraints that, while we were all enjoying some delicious seafood on the rooftop of one of the buildings, he of his own volition, went to hunt for some dishes that she could eat which was very touching. The benefit of getting to skip the line by virtue of being a part of this tour, and enjoying the best tuna that we undoubtedly have ever eaten is very understated. I know this first hand as I went back to that same spot (how could I not :p) and was made to wait for an hour to enjoy that same sushi - Still worth it. I want to thank Keiji, Yuma, and the entire Ninja Food Tours team for this wonderful experience and I cant wait to book another tour with them on my next trip to Japan.
Excellent experience- Kaz was a warm and knowledgeable tour guide.
Taiga did an awesome job taking us through the market. We had the most delicious bites of everything from meat to seafood to sweets. He is very knowledgeable and a really fun guide.
Kaz was a phenomenal tour guide. We loved his energy and knowledge. He walked us through the fish market, and had us try so many different bites. We were amazed and stayed longer after. Highly recommend!
We spent our first morning in Tokyo with Kaz wandering the Tsukiji Outer Market. Great start to our holiday. We weren’t rushed - Kaz asked at the outset if there were any time constraints as the tour could run over time. We sampled delicious omelette and ramen, different cuts of tuna sashimi, dumplings, matcha and strawberry sweets. We jumped queues, and went into buildings with markets that you wouldn’t know existed if visiting without insider knowledge. Highly recommended and Kaz a wonderful guide
Taiga was the best tour guide, we all learned so much, probably the best part of our trip so far. He answered all of our questions and he was so funny. He even took us to a sushi experience, it was so delicious. Everyone should take this to get the full Japan experience and feel like a local for a day!
We did the Tsukiji Market tour with Taiga and had the best time. Taiga was charming and very knowledgeable, and he gave us tons of recommendations for our trip! I would highly recommend this tour, especially with Taiga.
Ninja Food Tours deliver a great tour because they hire professional, friendly and knowledgeable guides like Taiga. Taiga knew the perfect places to go and was able to provide the history of each place and what makes those places unique in the market. He took his time with our questions. His English was perfect. We could tell he had established solid relationships with the vendors we visited based on his interactions with them. This made each stop seem more special.
Keiji was incredible. So lovely and warm, he looked after our group and explained so much about the market and the food selection. We didn’t feel rushed, sat and able to enjoy the food. And got VIP service at some busier spots. He was so helpful for recommendations in Tokyo. Thank you Keiji!
Our tour with keiji was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable, shared history about the market and Japan and took us to some delicious spots. My favourite was the tuna and the matcha and sweets at the end!
Kaz showed us the best of the best in the fish market. Would highly recommend this tour and not go on your own as you will definitely miss out !!’
Kaz took us to all very different places - some touristy but mostly places you would never guess to go to. He takes you almost behind the scene and authentic places. We are all foodies and have never had food like this- Kaz made it extra special.
Amazing experience, Kaz was the best guide we could have asked for!! Showed us all the special spots, gave us restaurant recommendations to check out afterwards and talked to us about the history! Definitely recommend!
Taiga was a great guide, sharing lots of great information and perspectives about the history of the fish market, the harbour area, the shrines, the local cuisine and businesses. Also suggested other things to see and do in Tokyo, and other Japanese experiences. Thank you for a great morning and all the variety of different foods we tried! The high grade tuna sushi and sake were especially memorable! 😋
We had a great time! Yusuke was an amazing tour guide for the Tsukiji fish market. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and in addition to the amazing food samples we had, he gave us some background of the vendors and history of the market. Thank you Yusuke for a very memorable day!!!
We were so excited to have Yusuke as our guide as he did an incredible job with a sake tasting two nights prior to this tour. The fish market is very crowded and it would be easy to be overwhelmed. Instead Yusuke led our group of 7 adults to the best stalls and answered a myriad of questions from the group. We started off with a tasting of Tamago and then moved onto to wonderful bites of different fish. We didn’t have to wait in the very long line at the most popular tuna stand. Instead we waited a few minutes while enough counter space came available and had the best bites of toro of our entire trip. We ended with matcha and dessert. Yusuke even sent us his tips for sightseeing/eating in Tokyo. I highly recommend this tour.
We had the best time at the Tsukiji Fish Market with Yusuke! He was very attentive to all the guest in our party, and went slowly explaining everything we were seeing and also answering any and all questions we had. With Yusuke, we were able to cut the lines for all food stops. He got everything set up and ready for us to eat and try. Would highly recommend this tour and Yusuke for anyone who wants an authentic trip to Tsuiji Fish Market.
Fun and well rounded. I was so full afterwords. I’m really glad I did this. Who cares if it’s touristy. I would recommend to anyone. Going early is key.
Did a fun tour of the outer fish market with Kaz. He was a great guide, fun, engaging, and knowledgeable. We had 3 types of tuna sushi, a really fabulous meatball, and some other interesting foods.
Yusuke was a great tour guide and showed us a lot of delicious food in the area we wouldn’t have been able to find ourselves!
Excellent food tour! The food was delicious throughout, and our guide Kaz was amazing—very accommodating to our needs and incredibly informative. Highly recommend!
Amazing food! Kaz was very friendly and knowledgeable. Every stop was better than the last! We had an amazing time and cannot recommend this tour enough!
If you're looking for an authentic cultural and culinary experience, a guided tour of the fish market is an absolute must — and our guide, Yusuke made it exceptional from start to finish. From the moment the tour began, it was clear that Yusuke was not just knowledgeable, but truly passionate about seafood and local food traditions. With an easygoing and engaging style, he walked us through the bustling market, sharing fascinating insights about the daily routines, fish varieties, and the long-standing history of the market itself.
This tour was amazing, and so is this company. We had some changes to our plans and they were incredibly accommodating. If you’re lucky, you’ll have Yusuke as your tour guide, who brought us to the best spots and chose a perfect variety. Thanks, Yusuke!
Had a great time with our guide Taku! He’s a newer guide but a very good listener, super kind, & funny. He’s a very calming presence and lets you be a bit more independent through his tour (like pausing with you to help you buy a pack of dashi from a stall he highlights on the way). Good pace, no rushing. My fiance and I went on 3 different Ninja Food tours this Japan trip & Taku’s was a last minute, “let’s do one more!” idea and we’re so glad we did! These tours are great intros to areas and foods you may miss, or not realize you’re missing! The tours also get you access to stalls/shops that perhaps normally have long wait lines, but because of Ninja Food Tours, you get VIP treatment & skip right through, pass the lines. We loved the area so much that my fiance and I went around the area once more for souvenir shopping & more food ;)
