The general feedback from the group for this experience is that they wish having a guide came with feeling more informed. The point of investing in a guided tour was to leave the experience with an in-depth knowledge, or tips/recommendations that the average visitor to the market won't have. That was not the take away. There were times where it also felt like the guide was frazzled at the suggestion of any deviation from his path navigating through the markets. Overall, the sentiment is that a similar experience could've been had without the private guide.

Itinerary
Toyosu Market (豊洲市場, Toyosu Shijō) opened on October 11, 2018 on the man-made island of Toyosu in the Bay of Tokyo. It took over the wholesale business from the aging Tsukiji Market and provides tourists with an opportunity to observe the market action and to dine at restaurants across its large, modern premises. The huge wholesale market consists of three main buildings: two buildings for seafood and one for fruits and vegetables. All buildings are connected with each other and Shijo-mae Station via walkways This tour does not include tuna auction viewing. If you are interested to see the Tuna auction, please book Toyosu Market Morning Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Food Tour which can be booked at 5AM.
Meet up with your guide at Tsukiji Honganji Temple, just outside the market’s main gate, in the morning. As you navigate your way through this labyrinth of all things seafood, learn from your guide about the market’s history and why many Japan’s top chefs visit here daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients. You never know what you might find as you stroll past the stalls of this amazing food center. You might see piles of sea urchin (uni) stacked neatly in boxes, watch as vendors carve massive Bluefin tuna or spot puffer fish floating in tanks. You can also visit the temple and shrine in Tsukiji and learn about the history of this land that was reclaimed from the sea to become a bustling market!
The history of Tsukiji is rich and you can lean about some of this history when you visit Namiyoke Shrine! This Shinto Shrine is meant to keep away the waves from this land reclaimed from the sea!
Buddhism has a long history in Japan and there are many temples all across the country. The Honwanji Temple is known for its unique construction and is a great opportunity to learn about Japanese Buddhism on your trip!

Mr. Suzuki was an excellent guide. He showed up at our hotel right on time and led us through the complicated trains to get to Tsukiji and Toyosu markets. He explained a lot about Japanese culture. He found us the best samples in the markets. I highly recommend this tour.
Yumi was a fanty guide. She make us feel welcomed and tried to capture and pass to us the history and current vibe of the markets. Also she give us insides into food and Japanese culture.
Great experience! First stop tuna auction at the Toyuso Fish market followed by an incredible sushi breakfast. Several hours exploring the market then venturing into another part of the city for some other markets and a temple. Yoko was wonderful! Highly recommend.
Had an issue finding Yoko but called her and figured it out. The auction was very enjoyable. The sushi breakfast was highlight of the day.
Tomoya was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable & very personable while maintaining a high level of professionalism. He seeks to understand his clients interests and perfectly curates the experience to their wants. We would highly recommend Tomoya.
Our guide, May Takahashi, was great! He was very helpful when I made a mistake with my reservation and gave a great tour of Toyosu and Tsukiji fish market. May did a great job showing us around Toyosu and helped us navigate a crowded Tsukiji market to try things that we would not have seen otherwise. Highly recommend
I would highly recommend Nobu as a tour guide. He really went above and beyond to help us store our luggage before the tour then get on a train to the airport afterwards. He was very knowledgeable about the fish market and shared lots of great information. We wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much from the tour if we had done it without a guide!
Today we went on a tour of the Toyosu fish market. Our tour guide Goreilo was very knowledgeable in explaining about everything that happens in the market. After we went to the Tsukiji Market which was so much fun! The food spots were amazing and Goreilo knew just the right spots. Definitely recommend going on this tour as both of these markets are must sees while in Tokyo!
My two traveling buddies and I had an unforgettable experience touring Tokyo’s seafood markets—both Tsukiji and Toyosu—with our amazing guide, Julie. From start to finish, she went above and beyond. Julie reached out to me weeks before our trip to help fine-tune our itinerary, and her thoughtful planning made all the difference. She even assisted us with our journey from Narita Airport, which took away so much stress after a long flight. Once we met up, she generously let us use her own bus card for local transportation (we paid her back, of course!), which made getting around incredibly smooth. At the markets, Julie was energetic, knowledgeable, and fully engaged the entire time. As we were on a rather tight time limit, we needed to prioritize the things that were important for us to see. Julie navigated us through the best stalls, explained the history and culture behind what we were seeing, and made sure we tasted some unforgettable foods. She also took us to a beautiful nearby Japanese park(Hamarikyu Gardens), giving us a chance to enjoy a quieter, more peaceful side of Tokyo. On top of all that, she snapped tons of fantastic photos of us throughout the tour—memories we’ll always treasure. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want someone who is professional, caring, fun, and incredibly organized, Julie is the guide, and this is the tour you want. Our day with her was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly, highly recommended!
Fantastic. Guide was knowledgable, friendly snd a joy. Knew ins and out. Super respectful of specific needs. English was excellent.
Toyo was an excellent guide. He met me in the lobby at my Hotel where we tailored the tour to exactly what I wanted to see and do. We visited Tsukiji market, Sensoji Temple, Asakusa Nakamise shopping street and went up to the observation terrace at the Asakusa cultural tourist information centre to get a great view of Asakusa. We finished the tour with a fabulous sushi lunch. Toyo was very knowledgable and taught me how to use the trains and subways to make sure I made it back to my hotel on my own. This was a very enjoyable start to my time in Tokyo.
Amazing experience with Suzuki san! He is very knowledgeable, professional and very friendly. We had a great time and would recommend as a part of your Tokyo experience
Went to the fish market Was pretty nice full things. Ate one of the best sushis i had in japan Saw algo the fruit market and bought amazing japanesse knife
Yoshii was really engaging. He gave us a very detailed tour and history of Japan experience. If you’re looking for someone who is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable Yoshii is your guide.
Great venue. Very clean. Tons of options for eating and shopping and experiencing the market. My guide Toyo was first class. Very knowledgeable and kind. Extremely helpful and shared his wealth of knowledge the entire tour. He went above and beyond
Our guide was wonderful!! We was on time and very knowledgeable about everything about Japanese culture and history.
We had a wonderful tour of Tsukiji and Toyosu with our guide Yoshii. We would definitely recommend this tour for anyone that wants to learn more about the history and culture of the Tsukiji area. Thank you.
Toru was an enthusiastic guide, clearly passionate about sharing his love for food. We chose not to wake up early for the tuna auction—a decision we later regretted, as the activity winds down by around 7 a.m. Despite this, Toru managed to arrange brief backdoor access to parts of the market normally closed to visitors, though it was a quick glimpse since access to the trading floors is restricted. He had arranged an excellent sushi breakfast for us at his favorite spot in Toyosu, which was a real highlight. Afterward, we toured the non-fish section of Toyosu before heading to Tsukiji Market, where we spent the second half of the tour sampling food from various stalls. At the end, Toru kindly shared all the photos he’d taken throughout the tour, which was a nice extra touch.
Toru was fun, enjoyable, well informed and easy to understand. He knows the food markets very well and is passionate about what he does. We had the best Sushi of our entire visit to Japan with Toru, because he knew just where to take us and he also helped us beat the crowds. I highly recomend this tour and Toru as your guide.
Goreilo was a super thoughtful and caring guide! He customized the tour based on our interests and even rescheduled the tour to earlier so we could see the tuna auction!
Our tour guide Mr Suzuki was amazing, very informative and gave us some great tips on where to visit on our other days in Tokyo and we throughly enjoyed our tour of the Fish Markets.
Yoshi was awesome. He met us next to our hotel and took us back to the Toyosu Market. Near the market where all these restaurants where we ate fresh sushi that melted in our mouths. So delicious. I would definitely recommend Yoshi ! Thank you very much !
This was a great walking tour and ability to see some key highlights of the markets. There’s not a lot of time to grab something to eat — but if you book early in the am it’s perfect to end the tour at the food court.
The tour/ markets were amazing however what really made this tour memorable was our guide, Kazu. Kazu was so kind, knowledgeable. He took us to both fish markets and a shrine and showed us some great shops as well. I would highly recommend him to any family member or friend
Enjoyable. The new food market didn’t have much to see as the stalls were closed when we went at noonish. Great at old market with fresh tasty sushi lunch
We had a great tour with Kris (Kiyoshi). Not only was he incredibly knowledge about the Toyosu tuna auction and Tsukiji fish market, but he was also a great conversationalist and very entertaining overall. He also added a fantastic personal touch which meant a lot to us. We’d definitely recommend this walking tour to anyone looking for a great early morning activity in Tokyo!
Awesome tour, lots to see and will be coming back with my kiddos. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind. Can’t wait to come back next year.
Julie was very knowledgeable and helped us navigate the fish market to find best food. She was very accommodating to our wishes. We never would have found some of the better places to eat without her. She also was a great help getting us to the fish market from our rental across town. Highly recommend your and Julie in particular.
Mina was an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge about Japan’s history and culture. She was punctual, easygoing, and made me feel at ease as if I were walking with an old friend. Highly recommend her. I’ll definitely reach out again when I return for another experience. Thanks!
Bring cash and an appetite. Very insightful - nice balance of cultural and food. Mami was very knowledgable. Think the value of using a guide is picking the right market booths, taking us to a non-tourist section for great tuna and crab and it really is insightful hearing the history first hand.
Posh was fantastic guide, not only did he take us to the areas and sights we wanted to but also some local areas not usually on the tourist trail. Thanks posh great day, regards Paul and Helen
The tour of both markets was great. Our guide Naomi was knowledgeable of the history of the markets and surrounding areas. A very pleasant morning.
Our guide, Goreillo, met us in our hotel lobby and took us on a super fun tour. We enjoyed seeing the fish auction house and learn about the process of buying fish at auction. We then went to Tsijiki Outer Market where he helped us navigate the more than 400 stalls to find which products we were interested in. Our last stop was Ramen Alley in Tokyo Ststion where he left us to have lunch. Our whole family loved the tour. Goreillo was friendly and professional and we enjoyed spending the morning with him.
After satisfying my curiosity @Toyosu Market, my guide Isao Kito brought me to Tsukiji Market and I had a great time there. Isao is warm and sincere, and I can feel he earnestly tries his best to make the best of my visit there. Has a great local knowledge of the market and showed me the gems there. Thanks for a great insider experience, Isao!
Amazing fish market tour of Tsukiji (old) and Toyosu (new)! Our tour guide Koji was fabulous. He contacted us before the tour started to get a sense of what we wanted to do. He met us at our hotel lobby and took us to Tsukiji first and then Toyosu. Please note if you want to see the tuna auction, it starts at 530am and you would need to request ahead of time. Koji mixed in some history of the area: we visited some local shrines, walked both in the inner and outer Tsukiji markets annd ate some amazing street food along the way. He also took us to Daiwazushi which was fantastic! Koji was so kind he waited for us to finish eating and then took us to a local market area, Senkyaku Banrai, which had a lot of small shops and food places. Overall a 10/10 experience!
Our guide Show was excellent and well prepared. He pointed out so many food stalls and had a notebook to illustrate some of his ideas. I gave 4 stars because I thought the itinerary was a bit repetitive with 2 markets but we knew that going in. We give Show our guide 5stars!
Masa was the perfect guide for visiting all of the Tsukiji markets - wholesale, retail, consumer and then the outer market. He was able to explain so many things to us, like the history of the market, how the tuna auction works and he was able to help us navigate through the markets, all which would have been difficult to do on our own.
The tuna auction was very interesting. The Toyosu and Tsuqkiji markets were authentic and colourful. Our guide Isao was very patient and helpful
We had a wonderful morning with Isao at Toyosu. He made an effort to apply for the lottery that got us onto the 2nd floor observation area close to the action. We followed this with an excellent omikase sushi experience near the market. Then he led us around Tsukiji for site seeing and a little shopping. Thanks for a great time!
Taku was awesome! He was knowledgeable and patient, letting us stop and try things along the way, never making us feel rushed and made the tour feel like it was entirely in our hands or terms. Because of this, it was an enjoyable experience for the whole family and a highlight for our stay in Tokyo. He even translated so my gluten free mum could try some street food as well. Cannot recommend Taku enough!
The tour was a lot of fun and our guide Mass was great. He explained the market structure well and also taught us some other general things about Japan. There are tons of foods to try at the secondary market of Tsukiji. The primary market Toyosu is interesting too but we missed all the action by going at 1030am. The auction sounds interesting to see but the trade off is it starts around 5am. Overall I would recommend this to others.
Riko was awesome and she gave us a personal tour of both fish markets. Ate food in real time, shooped for knives and other goodies. Would definitely use her again. Very knowledgeable and great English.
Our guide Yumi was wonderful. Very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and flexible re what we wanted to do. She gave us a lovely experience
Show was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our tour and time with him. Highly recommend
Fantastic tour with friendly Kappa! Lot's of information and relaxed pace visiting the new and old markets. Also some visits to local shrines.
Kenji was a fantastic tour guide. I would highly recommend him. Spoke English well. He was very knowledgeable of the fish market, vegetable market and outside markets, and all the spots along the way It was fun to take the subway, the monorail and bus to see all the sights. Our first time here and we are so thankful we got Kenji to be our guide.
Hiro our guide was great , met us at the hotel and took us to the markets ..... very knowledgable guide and very pleasent person He took us to a great Sushi restaurant to finish the tour ,,,,,,,,,,,,the food markets are very interesting
