Tokyo: Meiji Shrine Walking Tour — Shintoism & Imperial System

What an amazing guide! Frankie is such a great guide and he brings such a great energy to his tour and is very knowledgeable!

Frankie is an awesome guide, loved learning about Meiji, Shinto religion and Japanese culture.

Okay however other people on the tour kept lagging behind.

Amazing tour of the Meji Shrine with Yuuki. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and cultural aspects. No admission fee but there were souvenirs you could by at the store. Crowds weren’t too big. Calm atmosphere.

Ishibha was a great guide to do this walking tour with! It felt like I was transported somewhere else and wasn't near any city when walking through. The energy felt great if you feel overstimulated by the city

Frankie was friendly and gave us the opportunity to quickly book this tour. We were lucky enough to experience the shrine between the autumn festival. He gave us local tips and most of all, all the interesting informations regarding the building period of Meiji shrine, the history of it and also its space in nowadays Tokyo. He always watches out for the whole group and tempers his speed. He makes also sure that everyone gets a nice picture done! :) I would always recommend him for other tours, his guides are easy to understand and he knows quite a lot. And it’s fun!

The afternoon Meiji shrine tour with Ayaka was wonderful! She was very communicative before the tour to make sure we arrived at the correct meeting point in what is a very busy area and she provided very interesting information on the Meiji shrine. I especially appreciated her taking the additional time to point out what are some good gifts to search for during our time in Japan by pointing them out in the gift shop. Highly recommend adding this walking tour to your itinerary to get the most out of your visit!

Our tour of Meiji Shrine was absolutely wonderful! Mizu was an exceptional guide — knowledgeable, warm, and engaging. She shared fascinating stories about the shrine’s history and traditions in a way that made the experience feel personal and memorable. The peaceful atmosphere of the shrine was enhanced by her thoughtful pacing and insights. Highly recommend this tour and especially Mizu if you’re looking for a meaningful visit!

Airi met us right on time at the train station and warmly welcomed us to the tour. She introduced herself and had each of the guests introduce themselves, which was a nice touch so we all knew a bit about each other. Her English is impeccable and she is very knowledgeable about the shrine, Shinto, and Buddhist beliefs. She answered all of our questions and kept the pace of the tour at a comfortable level. Do not hesitate to book this tour. You won’t be disappointed.

However, our tour guide,Frankie, contacted me immediately after he saw my booking in Viator to help coordinate meet up details. As for the tour itself, it was the opportunity I needed to slow down and take in some Japanese culture and history. After spending 7 days in the constant hustle and bustle of Tokyo, it felt great to stroll through the forest learning about very important history while discovering beautiful places. Frankie shared a great deal of information about the shrines, cultural practices, and the history of it all. Additionally, he answered any & all questions, was happy to capture photos during the tour, and spoke excellent English. I highly recommend you take this tour, if for nothing more than to soak in some calm during your time in Tokyo. *Not to be missed are the gardens! I opted to visit them immediately after my tour, and was blown away by the natural beauty!
