Rico was a great guide and we had such a blast with her! She really personalized our experience! We not only tried a ton of great street food but she took us to some of her favorite shops and a local temple. We highly reccomend this tour and RICO!!!!!

Itinerary
The tour starts at Musashikoyama Shopping Street. First, using the travel guidebook provided beforehand, you'll choose two menu items you like. Our first stop is a long-established yakitori shop founded in 1926, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Its signature style lets you enjoy the skewers by applying the sauce yourself. Savor the freshly grilled chicken while soaking in the bustling atmosphere of the shopping street. (If you'd like, you can even take some uniquely Japanese purikura photos. )
Next, we move to the Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street. Renowned as a quintessential local shopping street, Togoshi Ginza is packed with eateries perfect for street food and old-fashioned independent shops. It's overflowing with unique shops like “Kei,” whose fried chicken won a gold prize; “Aoyagi,” which offers traditional sweets at Meiji Shrine; and shops even former Prime Minister Abe has visited.
At the end of the tour, we’ll stop by Togoshi Hachiman Shrine, a local shrine that has been loved by the community for generations. It’s just a short walk from the lively shopping street, and because it’s less touristy, you can enjoy a calm, local atmosphere that feels a little different from other shrines. It’s a peaceful spot to take a breath and wrap up the tour.

Communication was great, meetup was great and extremely friendly and personable. All food the tour guide took us to was friendly and delicious.
Subaru was very kind and knowledgeable! He introduced us to wonderful food and the vendors who served them all while explaining culture and history.
This food tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo! We tried so many incredible foods that we never would have found on our own, and every stop was delicious. Our guides, Masumi and Tomoki were incredibly informative, sharing the history and stories behind the food and the neighborhoods we visited. They were also so much fun to hang out with—it felt more like exploring the city with friends than being on a tour. I did this tour with my two children, and they made all of us feel welcome and included. They were patient, engaging, and made the experience enjoyable for both kids and adults. If you’re visiting Tokyo, I can’t recommend this tour enough. Great food, great company, and an unforgettable experience. Thank you for making our day so special! Can’t wait to book another tour!
Hi! I'm Fiona, just wanted to share my wonderful experience with my food tour guide today. Taiga was excellent in showing me and my daughter around, he very helpful and friendly, he English is very good, that was a plus for me, because I only speak English. I would recommend him as to any one who is looking to just enjoy a friendly visit to have some good food and conversation and comp. Thanks Fiona Looking forward to day 2.
We had such a wonderful tour, enjoyed every bit of it! It’s not just about the delicious food we’ve tasted, but it’s just an overall amazing experience to get a super local tour, and chat about culture, local customs and more. Would highly recommend, thanks again!
Best tour ever, highly recommend! Great way to explore untapped terrotority and see where the locals go.
It was really fun, and some good local spots supporting the old local business. Me and my friend had a great time and highly recomend booking a tour.
We had a great tour with Michael and Subaru. We did the food tour and tried some really nice dishes and places we wouldn’t have tried without a guide! They are really nice and fun to go on tour with. It was a private tour which was really good!
Yuta and Tomaki took my Australian friend and I to a local spot, a spot where typical tourists wouldn’t know about, and tried these incredible skewers. They also taught us about Japanese traditions associated with things they would say when they get the food which was cool to learn. They also took us to a really old Japanese dessert store in which they knew the 90+ year old owner and got us these incredible desserts and a local fried chicken spot. The food was incredible and I recommend this to anyone wanting to see Japan from a ‘local lense’ and see such neighbourhoods and try incredible foods. They are fun guys and very friendly and engaging.
Taiga was extremely friendly and helpful. He took us on a trip thru the Ginza area and provided some i formation and stopped at several interesting spots. The food was good the beer enjoyable. The stop at the shrine was very quiet and tranquil. Highly recommend this tour.
Great day trip to experience local Tokyo with great food and history
My family of 7 adults and 2 kids had a wonderful time with Taiga and Wakana giving us a tour around Odaiba, they were friendly and very helpful altogether. We had a chance to meet the rest of the crew and they were as welcoming and interesting to talk to.
It would have been impossible for us to experience this lovely local neighbourhood and the eateries with rich history, especially with children in tow. Subaru was very patient in going at our pace and explaining to us the cultural significance of our various activities and generous in providing us with tips on how to get by the remainder of our trip. He even helped entertain our two young boys while we took a brief respite to indulge in the various activities. It was a very good quality private tour! You could also tell from interactions that the team has built rapport with the local vendors so we felt very welcome without being artificial or in anyway feeling like a tourist trap. Would book again!
We had a wonderful few hours with Ranjan, who showed us a few selected local steet food joints while we chatted about everything Japan, food and life. The Takoyaki and yakitori were the highlights for me, although all the food was fantastic. This would be difficult for an outsider to experience if not suggested by a Tokyo resident. Thanks to the whole Michitabi Tour team for the experience!
This tour took us in an amazing extensive area of local food vendors where you need an interpreter if your Japanese language is lacking. Our guides new most of the vendors and selected delicious variations of unique foods
Highly recommended and oishi ( yummy) local food we wouldn’t have found or been game to enter some of these places . The local guides had good English.
We had an amazing time exploring Musashi Koyama and Togoshi Ginza with Ranjan! The entire Michitabi team was so pleasant, prompt and polite - booking, planning, noting any food restrictions. We had our 1 year old baby with us and they made sure to adjust aspects of the tour - would she be in a carrier/stroller and during the tour stopping every time she needed to. Ranjan was a great tour guide. He'd explain aspects of the restaurant, the food and the culture -- which made the experience so much more interesting. He also patiently answered ALL our questions about life in Japan which we were very curious about :) Thanks Team Mitchitabi for a really interesting experience and sneak peak into the local food culture of this part of Tokyo. I hope we can come again and do another local tour with you :)
The food were perfect. The friendly guides are perfect. I can not tell how beautiful day I had with my daughter. Thanks
Extremely delicious food, very kind and friendly people. 1000/10
I’m very lucky I found this tour, really amazing to see the local foods, and great to go to where the locals go. Ranjan was an excellent tour guide, good English and really goes in depth to explain the foods. We went to some amazing places, hidden gem restaurants that have been open for many years that you would never find on your own. Please book this tour, one of the highlights of my Tokyo trip.
Subaru was excellent local knowledge and planned our tour specifically to our needs. The time went so quickly and we were able enjoy local street foods like karange chicken, dumplings and hand crafted deserts just to name a few. They paced the tour well and we never felt rushed and to see sbd experience everything we wanted. Very well done! Would we recommend and will definitely use their service again when in Tokyo!
Great guys, great food - try the dumplings.
Fantastic local knowledge of all the places we visited. Highly recommend for really nice food
We had the most amazing time on our tour! Our guides were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and so much fun, they made the entire experience feel special from start to finish. They took us to such a cool neighborhood, and it truly felt like an adventure. Our daughter absolutely adored Kay, we already miss our guides! One of the things that made it even more special was the included photo link. The photos of our family turned out so beautifully and are something we’ll treasure. Thank you so much for creating such a meaningful core memory for us
We just finished a fantastic street food tour in Tokyo. Our guides, Subaru and Sarah, were absolute stars—super kind, incredibly knowledgeable, and full of energy. They navigated the bustling streets like pros, sharing fun facts about Tokyo’s food scene, history, and hidden gems we never would have found on our own. From sizzling yakitori skewers and mouthwatering takoyaki every stop was a flavor explosion. Subaru’s insider tips on etiquette and Sarah’s warm recommendations made it feel personal and authentic. Great tour!
We had a great tour with Subaru & Sarah, felt very welcoming and more like hanging out with these lovely two people (as opposed to a full on tour so to speak). We got to discover like locals a neighborhood we wouldn’t have visited otherwise - and with that some honestly great foods!
The guides (Subaru and Sara) were knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. We did the local food tour - we got good food and additional insight to an area we wouldn’t have found on our own.
Very friendly tour guides and a great food experience in the local spots. Thanks Subaru and Ranjyan!
Excellent intro to food in Tokyo
Found the Michitabi Tour through Instagram and glad I did! My husband and I wanted to do something more local to Tokyo and what better way than through food. Visited 7 different food spots and left feeling so full having tried a different variety of foods and one dessert spot. Appreciated the smaller, local spots that felt very authentic. (The elderly sweets shop owner was very welcoming!! 🥹) Subaru, Yutah, Emily were our guides and they were so friendly and easygoing. Would do another tour with them! 😄
Subaru, Yuta, and Emily are super knowledgeable and showed my wife and I all the “true” local spots. Every food spot they took us was intentional and the flavors and authenticity of the food was top tier. They were also super friendly, warm and welcoming, and a fun group to be around. From takoyaki > chicken skewers > karage > desserts > gyoza > onigiri > hotpot, everything was fantastic. I highly recommend their travel group for local tours!! You won’t be disappointed and your stomach won’t be either. :)
Amazing time! These guys went beyond! Very memorable experience! We did a whole day tour with them. Super easy and welcoming
Yuta and Subaru were very friendly and gave a great explanation of the local Togoshi-Ginza area. My favourite moment was trying all the local food. I would recommend a local tour. I really liked the yakitori spot.
This tour was honestly the highlight of my entire trip to Japan. From start to finish, the team was incredibly thoughtful, kind, and deeply knowledgeable about the local culture and spaces we explored. They took us to places I never would have found on my own — spots that felt authentic, personal, and truly special. What stood out most was how welcomed I felt. It didn’t feel like a typical tour; it felt like being invited into the culture. Every detail was handled with care, and their hospitality made the experience unforgettable. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Japan and the people who make it so special. Thank you so much to the entire team for such an incredible experience. I can’t recommend this tour enough.
Amazing experience would recommend if you’re looking for great authentic food places in Tokyo. Host were very easy going.
Great tour with Yuta, Subaru, and Richard. Tried so many good food and informative. Definitely make sure to book with them!
I had a fantastic time with yuta san He is knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about what he does. The tour was well organized, fun, and full of interesting stories. I discovered places I would never have found on my own. Highly recommended!
The tour guides have an excellent way of making someone experience the food scene beyond the usual tourist spots/stores. Their food suggestions were fantastic! The wagashi was oishii and the green tea was perfection. The tour was also comfortable (for reference, I'm an introvert) as the conversations and historical contexts were interesting. Both guides were considerate and helpful (but I am too independent haha), they also spoke with the shop owners and would translate it for me which I find fascinating. It truly felt like I was just running errands with friends. Further, the area wasn't very crowded at this time so we didn't have to rush. This type of tour format is good for people who prefer to have a relaxing pace, but if you can only do exactly 2 hours then you can always inform the guides, they'd definitely accommodate you. Price was reasonsble as well. Definitely a good experience! ありがとうございます. 🙇🏻♀️
This tour was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Tokyo. Yuta-san and Tomoki-san were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, guiding me through Japanese traditions, teaching me how to properly enter a Torii gate, how to properly pray, and even engaging in fun language exchanges. We shared laughs, fun stories, and tried delicious local foods. They also shared nostalgic childhood memories connected to the delicacies we tried along the way, making the experience feel personal and heartwarming. By the end of the tour, I really felt a sense of attachment and connection to the places we visited and the experiences we shared. If you want to experience very local, nostalgic, and traditional Tokyo, this tour is perfect. the whole experience had such a fun, educational, and authentic local vibe, with few tourists around.
It was very friendly and very cozy with Waka! Recommendation!
We had the chance to discover an authentic Tokyo street food off the beaten track, without any other tourists around, thanks to our guides Yuta, Michael and Tomoki. They are all incredibly kind. They speak English very well, which allowed us to really talk with them a lot. In addition to their explanations about food and Japan in general, we laughed a lot in their company, they make a great trio. The food addresses are all excellent, I will especially remember our visit to the shop of an adorable obachan (granny), in which we tasted the finesse of traditional Japanese pastries, with a perfect demonstration of Japanese hospitality. I also enjoyed the onigiri tasted in another shop, they were amazing. In short, a very friendly and warm, and greedy time, with Yuta, Michael and Tomoki. I highly recommend!! Whether as a couple, friends, family or solo, I guarantee you will be won over! Thanks again to you 3 🙏
Incredible experience with Michitabi Tour 👍 Our guides Yuta, Michel and Tomoki introduced us to the best hidden places in Tokyo, away from the crowds of tourists. We were able to taste traditional dishes absolutely delicious and feel the typical Tokyo. The explanations were very clear and easy to understand in English. Our favorite moment was the visit to the pastry specialized in wagashi with the very welcoming little lady. It was really great, I recommend 100% 🔥
