Tokyo: Game Boy Mod Workshop In Akihabara (Original/advance)

Incredible experience, so fun and informative. Looking forward to moding a SP or DS next

Great time helpful kind staff. Happy with my design

My girlfriend booked this a surprise birthday present. And I can say I would highly recommend doing this workshop if you’re on the fence. From the start the staff will send you detailed information on locating the shop which can be very helpful in Akihabara. Once the class starts they will give some fun trivia and history of Nintendo and the Gameboy lineup. You’ll even get some time to play on and try every kind of Gameboy ever made. After that you get to pick out everything to build and customize your own Gameboy. I was doing the Gameboy Advance workshop and you can choose shell color, buttons, and even the rubber backing for them. They have wide verity so you are only limited by your own imagination. I’ve never done any modding or even soldering before, regardless the staff explained everything so even a beginner can understand and pickup. After about 2 hours you’ll have your very own custom Gameboy! You’ll even be able to try it out with some of the many games they have and if you fall in love with any you can buy it right then. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I can not recommend this experience enough.

Absolutely amazing experience. Alexa is great! The atmosphere was so nice and entertaining. The staff is amazing!!! Super amicable, approachable, sociable, knowledgeable on the workshop and very thorough in their information. It was a small group of people altogether, around 9-10, so not crowded at all. In total, it took about 2 hours from start to finish, and we took our sweet time. Honestly this was WAY better than I was expecting, and I definitely recommend everyone who likes handheld gaming consoles to do this workshop!!!

lots of fun, tons of options, they made it really easy

What a fun, unique experience! I highly recommend it. Modded a classic Game Boy for my bro. He is going to geek out over his gift.

What a fun experience!! Not only do you get to customize and keep your own gameboy, but you get to learn some Nintendo history from an amazing group of people! 10/10 would highly recommend !

Great experience Easy nice people Spoke English

Very much worth going. If you have time or want your own old school Nintendo (or advanced if they have the kit) I would highly recommend this activity It is around 2 hours and you get to play games to test it (+ you can buy the games if you find something you want) 10/10 with all employees

Very fun experience and the instructors are great.

What a fun experience! Our instructors were so personable and friendly (and very helpful). I can't wait to come back and do it again! There was plenty of time, I never felt rushed.

Love the experience. So well hosted

Very fun workshop. Lots of customization options for your gameboy. Plenty of time to choose parts and test out the library of games they have to offer. Will have to come back to modify other consoles.

Great guides and great selection of games and parts!

It was very indepth and told me about the history of the Gameboy and Nintendo. The workers are very nice and helpful in building. I recommend to anyone that likes gaming or Nintendo

This was an amazing experience with the two hosts. They were very accommodating and the entire experience was in English. Including the history lesson, hands on playing, and building it was a great experience.

We had an amazing time at the Game Boy Mod Workshop this evening! Our instructors were kind and entertaining, and guided us through the process with humor and patience. The price was right on for what we got, and there was plenty of time to chat and play games on our new Game Boy once we finished.

Excellent workshop on building a gameboy and learning the history of Nintendo. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Throughly enjoyed this experience!

such a great experience! my son and i enjoyed it so much.

Had an excellent time. I will admit I was anxious about this as I was not sure about being skilled enough to complete the project. Turns out I had no need to worry as the staff was excellent at showing and guiding us through the process. Now I have a gorgeous oh so shiny gameboy to play retro games on to my hearts content.

I made an AriZona Green Tea-themed Game Boy. 10/10

I had such a great time at this workshop! You can choose between customizing a classic Game Boy or a Game Boy Advance, and there are so many different options to make it your own. Before getting started, there’s a really interesting presentation about the history of Nintendo and the Game Boy, which was a nice touch and made the whole experience even better. The staff were honestly amazing. Super friendly, really cool and always happy to help with anything. You can tell they genuinely love what they’re doing. It’s such a fun experience, especially if you grew up playing Nintendo games. You also get to take home your very own customized Game Boy, which makes it even more special. Would definitely recommend it!

It was an amazing experience. Our senseis were warm, friendly and knowledgeable. My son now has a one of a kind memento of his trip to Japan. Definitely recommend this experience.

Great experience building the Gameboy of my dreams. Learned a lot about Nintendo and the history. Staff were so helpful ensuring everything was perfect before moving forward and making sure everyone was happy.

Putting together my own Game Boy was a childhood dream I did not think I had. It was so much fun and playing different games straight away.

Super cool experience - and you take your own personalized gameboy home <3

This was truly an entertaining rewarding experience. Everyone was so knowledgeable and helpful. Great experience.

Perfect experience even for inexperienced modders. So many opportunities to customize the game boy. Loved it!

The crew was extremely knowledgeable and friendly throughout the whole experience

Very fun experience and helpful and friendly employees.

Very fun! It was great building my own gameboy!

So awesome! Best day in Japan. Guides were super helpful and the entire experience was epic

This was such a fun experience! Our family loves gaming, and our son especially is a huge fan of all Nintendo consoles, so when we found out about this workshop we knew we had to do it. Being able to mod our own Gameboy was so cool and gave us a unique and memorable souvenir from our trip to Japan. The guides were wonderful and made the process easy to understand while also giving us more information on the history of Nintendo and its gaming systems. 10/10 would recommend to any gaming enthusiast visiting Japan!

What a unique way to experience Japan gaming culture in a hands-on and interactive way! Perfect for teens and adults, but elementary school kids can enjoy it with the guide of an adult. Fantastic souvenir to bring home from Japan!

Such an amazing experience for whole family, great history in gameboy, hands on and fun memento to take home.

Amazing experience - legendary guys! A easy to understand, step by step rebuild of the original Game Boy, with your selection of buttons and case and a history lesson as well. 👍👍👍

A great insight into the history and engineering design of Nintendo gaming products. Just the best souvenir of a visit to japan

Amazing experience. Love this.

the best experience i have ever had in japan genuinely recommend everyone was so kind and helping super fun 10/10 would go again

The entire experience was very informational and hands on! A great experience for people who love Nintendo and its history

I accompanied my partner to just watch while he actually participated in the build and I am SO glad I did! The entire workshop from start to finish was so much fun. We started with a history of Nintendo consoles and even got to try a wide variety of vintage handhelds, some of which I didn't know existed. Really great way to start things off. The guys leading the workshop displayed a really in depth and enthusiastic knowledge of the inner workings of the devices, were extremely helpful and happy to answer my questions along the way even though I was just observing. Only one other person was participating in the build besides us, so i was included in all of the conversations and hands on gaming outside of the actual modding portion. When you finished your build there were probably around 100 different game cartridges available to test drive your new handheld. Really really great experience that I cannot recommend more. My partner wants to go back and make another next time we find ourselves in Japan. Absolutely worth the money and time<3

Awesome. Gave me lots of confidence to mod. Brilliant tech help. Charming guys.

Such a fun experience! I really enjoyed the Game Boy making class. It was hands-on, easy to follow, and really satisfying getting to put everything together and see the finished product. Definitely a unique and memorable activity, and I’d absolutely recommend it!

Really great experience will definitely do the game boy advanced if I’m ever back in Tokyo

absolutely amazing experience! Even if you are new to the video-game world, they give you an awesome lesson about the history of Game Boy and it’s insane cool that you can build your own! AMAZING!

Amazing experience! Amazing staff, all of it 10 out of 10
