This neighbourhood has a unique blend of technology, gaming, and subculture that makes it a must-visit destination for tech enthusiasts and fans of Japanese pop culture.
Included in our "Local Tokyo Day" route, The Yanaka neighbourhood is famous for it's traditional shitamachi (old downtown) atmosphere. Miraculously spared from WWII bombings, it features narrow, atmospheric streets, traditional wooden architecture, cozy cafes, and a relaxed vibe that contrasts sharply with Tokyo's bustling modern centers.

A wonderful stroll through the culture and history of Japan with a guide with both knowledge respect and passion for Japan Originally from France gave a foreigner perspective. Able to enjoy discovering his favorite spots as a local as well as more iconic areas. Comfortable and Engaging. Loved It !! Well worth it
Amir provided a helpful and informative tour for my wife and I on our first full day in Tokyo. We texted before the trip and customized an itinerary. He met us at our hotel and helped us learn how to navigate the trains, coffee shops, convenience stores, and much more. We stayed in Tokyo for almost two weeks (mix of vacation and business). Amir generously offered help and advice even after our tour. He also took great photos. We had a wonderful time.
Amir was our guide and he was amazing - he made our introduction to Tokyo and Japanese culture so much easier. From teaching us local customs to showing us the sights and the food, he provided us with the perfect first day for first timers in Japan/Tokyo! He was very personable with our family of six and we are so thankful that we met him and got to share a part of our time in Tokyo with him. We highly recommend Amir and Flip Tours to anyone visiting Tokyo!
We had a great time. Leon was superb - very knowledgeable about the city and sites to see! He was incredibly accommodating to customize the trip to our preferences! We had fun, saw a couple of great parts of the city, learned to use the subway and had a great time. Highly recommend.
This was my first time in Tokyo and I wanted to get the most out of my trip. The walking tour was the best way to explore the city. Our tour guide, Amir, was very knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this tour. We toured 5 neighborhoods, Senso-ji temple, and market. We grabbed bites at different local places from matcha ice cream to ramen. Amir also recommended places and bars to go see after the tour. I highly recommend!
Had the best tour with Leon! He was very chill, gave us our space, suggested so many different things. He gave us tips on which subway tickets to get, best place for Shinkansen tickets, tips on how to ride the subway and get around, and of course a great tour in Asakusa. I was with 3 teen boys and they enjoyed being with him too! He kept kids ages into consideration & suggested things they’d like to do to. Even after our tour he kept in touch and had some great suggestions for our family. As first timers in Japan, it was great to have someone show us the ropes which helped immensely for the rest of our trip!
I had an amazing experience on this tour. We visited Askakusa and the Sensoji temple, Shibuya, Harajuku and the Meiji shrine, and Shinjuku. My guide was very thoughtful about my interests related to food, shopping and sightseeing, and added numerous recommendations during her tour. I would strongly recommend this to anyone that has limited time to see the highlights of Tokyo!
This was a great personalised tour, we did it at our own pace and had input into the itinerary. Ully our tour guide reached out to us beforehand to understand our preferences and interests and gave us options for our tour. She was excellent with the kids and helped us navigate our way through Tokyo on Day 1. This is an excellent tour to help orient yourself with the city and understand the local customs and expectations. Ully was amazing with the kids, she was patient in answering everyone’s questions, gave us some good tips and helped set us up for success for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend!!
This was a great experience!! Ully taught us plenty about Japanese culture and we all had a great time getting to know eachother. Each place we went to was unique and had quality food/drinks. I would highly recommended to anyone visiting!!
I cannot express enough how much we love Ully, she was amazing and the tour was fantastic. We told her we wanted more of a local everyday snap shot with a less touristy feel and she did exactly that.
On this tour, it ended up being just me and the tour guide Ully. She was so nice and very knowledgeable about the area and gave a lot of insight into the culture. Since it was just the two of us, it was very relaxed and personalized. We stopped and tried some really good gluten-free/vegetarian food, but the tour also included quite a bit of site-seeing, which I really appreciated. I feel I saw more everyday things that you probably wouldn’t get to see on other tours. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Thanks Ully!
The tour was really interesting, cruising in the chaos of the market with a guide is the best thing to do! Knowing the history behind what you are visiting it's the best thing to do. Leon was really nice and also shown us many places where to eat, duly noted!
Interesting and very useful activity! It's nice to have an insider look of the city. A lot of thanks to Leon, our tour guide!
We went to Asakusa and it was a beautiful tour. Got to know a lot of new things and hidden streets. Lot of street foods to try and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
I already went through Asakusa and to the Sensoji Tempel and thought I saw everything. I was totally wrong. Our fantastic tour guide Leon showed us many cool spots (especially for foodies) Definitely a recommendation!
Leon is a great and super friendly tour guide. He took us around Asakusa explaining the Sensoji temple in detail. We walked around the streets in Asakusa exploring interesting shops and stuff.
Ully was a wonderful guide for my family of three. We have a two year old and Ully was able to come up with a great itinerary that wasn't touristy, satisfied both the parents and the little one's desire to explore at our own pace. Great experience. Would recommend. Ully even followed up with wonderful recommendations for the rest of our trip. We are very grateful for this experience.
Leon made our tour unique and special, and set us up for a great trip to Tokyo. He taught us to get around on the train system, showed us around some of our favourite places in the city, and helped us to avoid the tourist traps.
This was my first time traveling solo. I thought that maybe a tour would help me get to know the city a little bit better. I am truly grateful to have found Martina. She patiently showed me tokyo in a unique way. I fell in love with this city and I think that everyone should try this tailor-made tour with such an incredible guide!!!
What an amazing tour! it’s a must!! Martina is an excellent guide, she was always keen to satisfy our needs. she is both prepared and empathic. we loved the tour and we had a wonderful time.
Very nice and surprising experience in Tōkyō. An 'only' five-hour tour, but really worth it and customized on our interests. We especially loved the visit of Asakusa and the beautiful buddhist Sensō-ji, tne oldest temple of the city. The staff was very friendly and had a deep knowledge of what they showed us. So, very very recommendable.
Great tour! Great organisation and explanations. The staff was well prepared! We liked every aspect of it. The guide was available and entertaining.
Amir, our guide was great! Very friendly and adapted very well to our family. His choices of visits and explanations were perfect, he took his time and made us have a great day!
A very informative tour with lots of local and personal stories of Amir, to do at the beginning of your trip because he has a lot of advice to give you, hidden gems, that allow you to take a tour of Tokyo impossible to do otherwise! I highly recommend it!
Leon is an excellent guide with lots of stories and information about the country and culture. He took his time Teach us everything about public traffic so that we could get through the city well and quickly. A great experience 👍🏻
