The second time I’ve used FOOTSTEPS and I would use again. This trip we had our 19 yr old son with us. The tours can be personalised and prior to meeting, I asked our guide to include things he would like. We experienced all the great shopping areas. Time to rest and have a beverage if needed. We finished with a visit to a beautiful temple in a forest park. A great contrast to the busy shopping areas. Himena was fluent in English. She kept track of our flight as it was a troubled travel period with typhoons and air traffic control chaos. We made the tour as planned. My luggage didn’t. Himena was great in helping me buy some ‘tide over’ clothes. 5/5. My only suggestion is that a flat rate is charged per tour rather than per person.

Our guide was excellent and very patient, something I really appreciated as I was traveling with a young child and two seniors. He adapted to our pace, helped us to take pictures and took us to the places we wanted to visit.
This was so much fun! Himena took us via subway and on foot to Shibuya and Shinjuku while explaining the bustling nightlife, shopping and other cultural points of interest.
We had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Tokyo through a private guided walking tour, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip. From the moment we met our guide, Himena, it was clear we were in exceptional hands. Her English was flawless, her knowledge incredibly deep, and her passion for Tokyo and its history was contagious. But more than that, she brought warmth, humour, and genuine care to every moment of the day. Our journey took us through some of Tokyo’s most iconic and meaningful locations. Walking through the vibrant streets leading to Senso-ji in Asakusa was unforgettable, the mix of history, culture, and atmosphere was brought to life through her storytelling. We then found complete tranquillity at Meiji Shrine, where the peaceful forest setting felt worlds away from the city, again, made even more special by her insights and explanations. Experiencing the energy of Shibuya Crossing was something else entirely — organised chaos at its finest and she knew exactly where to stand for the best view and photos. We also wandered through the beautiful grounds of Ueno Park, discovering hidden temples and peaceful corners we would never have found on our own. What truly set this experience apart, though, was our guide herself. Her ability to connect the history, culture, and modern life of Tokyo into a seamless story made every stop meaningful. We enjoyed her company so much that we ended up inviting her to dinner, which says everything about how comfortable and enjoyable the day was. If you’re considering a guided tour of Tokyo, do yourself a favour and book a private walking tour like this. It transforms the city from something you simply see into something you truly understand and feel. An unforgettable day, led by an unforgettable guide. Highly, highly recommended.
We visited Asakusa, Ueno, and Shinjuku on a 6-hour tour, and everything was great. We asked in advance to include a tea ceremony, and they kindly arranged it for us. The tea ceremony was amazing! Our guide Rei explained not only the sights but also everyday life in Japan, which made the experience very special. The ramen restaurant in Shinjuku that she took us to was excellent. She helped us with shopping, which made everything easy. We could not have enjoyed Tokyo this much on our own. It was a bit early for sakura, but we still got to see different types of sakura, so we were able to cover everything we wanted to see.
We were on a cruise and only had a short window of time to explore Tokyo. Out guide was AMAZING! She made sure we were able to see as much as possible during our tour. She was flexible with the stops we wanted to make and had a great personality. She even took pics of us and sent them all at the end! 10/10!
Wonderful experience. Kohei took us to lots of interesting places, some not often visited by tourists. We explored the subway, an experience all it own and good places to eat. Thanks for all your help, it’s appreciated.
Our tour guide Himena was amazing. We were nervous about negotiating the Tokyo Metro, and seeing all of the best of Tokyo. She spoke beautiful English and could not have been more helpful. We then felt confident to take on this huge bustling city ourselves. Signing up for this tour was a brilliant decision.
Himena was very kind and knowledgeable. We decided to meet at the station, since I felt confident, but got lost she was very quick in finding me and assisting me. She helped me find skin care I wanted to try and offered a lot of knowledge and facts about our stops. I definitely recommend whether you’re traveling alone or in a group. 100% worth the investment ☺️
Pablo Guada was prompt and courteous. He showed me around the Asakusa area and took me to a great Ramen place to eat. I would highly recommend Tokyo Footsteps and Pablo to anyone visiting Tokyo.
I went on this tour in Tokyo with my friends and we booked the 6 hour tour. Honestly, time went by so fast because we were enjoying it so much. We were able to cover everything we wanted to see without feeling rushed. The sushi restaurant we stopped by in Shibuya was incredible and definitely one of the highlights of the day. I am planning to come back to Tokyo during the summer, and I will definitely book this tour again.
Himena was a wonderful guide who knew exactly where to take me and all sorts of interesting information on local places.
This was our first time in Japan and we booked this tour to on our first day to give us an overview of Tokyo plus some insights into how to get the most from being here (getting around, do’s and don’ts etc). Taisei spoke great English, was knowledgable and prepared to flex his program to meet our needs. He is also a charming and interesting young man. Highly recommend.
This private tour was perfect for our first time in Tokyo! It was very flexible, and our guide adjusted the schedule based on our pace and interests. The guide spoke Spanish, English, and Japanese, which made everything so easy and enjoyable for us. We were able to visit all the places we wanted to see, and the guide was extremely helpful throughout the day, even though we were traveling with our 6-year-old child. Taking the subway was also a great experience, as it gave us a real feeling of how people move around Tokyo. We had a wonderful day and learned so much about the city. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tokyo for the first time!
We had a whirlwind day in Tokyo before boarding a cruise and wanted to see as much of the city as possible. Taisei made it happen! He arrived right on time and immediately asked whether we wanted to focus on the historic or modern parts of the city. We said both, and off we went! In one unforgettable day, he guided us through Omoide Yokocho, Harajuku, Shibuya Crossing, Akihabara, Ueno, Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, and Golden Gai. Taisei is fully bilingual (he lived in the U.S. during elementary and middle school) and shared fascinating insights about each stop along the way. His mastery of Tokyo’s incredibly complex subway system (nearly 700 stations!) was a total lifesaver. We were able to cover so much ground without wasting time trying to navigate by ourselves. He has good dining recommendations too; the restaurant he told us to try for udon noodles was absolutely delicious. If you’re short on time but want to experience the traditional AND modern sides of Tokyo, definitely book a tour with Taisei. A true 5-star experience!
I was on a business trip to Tokyo and only had one full day to go sightseeing. I wanted to make the most of my limited time, so I booked a tour with Tokyo Footsteps Tours. My tour guide was completely bilingual and had excellent knowledge of Japan. It was fascinating to learn about the culture and history while exploring the city. There’s so much to see in Tokyo, and I hope to come back next year during the cherry blossom season to spend more time sightseeing. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore Tokyo but doesn’t know where to start!
We joined this tour in Tokyo as a family, and it was our first time visiting the city. Our tour guide spoke fluent English and helped us navigate the subway, which made everything so easy! We definitely wouldn’t have been able to explore on our own without his help. He showed us not only the famous spots but also the local side of Tokyo, which we really appreciated. We booked the 4-hour tour, but time flew by so quickly! Next time, we’ll definitely book the 6-hour tour. Thank you again for making our Tokyo trip so memorable!
Himena is an excellent guide. Her English is faultless. She is delightful and engaging. Her knowledge of Tokyo is exemplary. She contacted us before hand to confirm our tour and made plans to meet our requests. We had a great experience in the city on our first morning. We would thoroughly recommend this activity.
Going through Tokio was so easy with this tour. We spent between 3-4 hours. I thought I was not able to do much because Tokio is so big. I highly recommend it at the beginning of the trip to do this tour because not only we visited 3-4 different areas by metro was fast and close to each other but also we got the recommendations to what we could do ourselves.
This was a great way to experience the Meiji shrine and Tokyo subway system and Shibuya shopping district.
The tour was excellent, very well organized, and the guide chisato was super friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend it.
Very helpful guide. Didn't waist any minute. It was difficult to see much in just couple of hours but I recommend this tour as an intro. Guide speaks very good English and has a lot of information to share.
Fernando was an awsome guide. He took us to great places. Heard our needs and what we wanted to see and adjust. We got to experience places that we would not could of seen bybour selfs. He gave us also lots of great information and tips. It was a great way to start our vacation.
We had a great time in our family adventure. Our tour guide Chisato Kamanaka was exelent. We did our tour in spanish and english. She asked us what places we wanted to see and made sure we got to them. She also took care of taking pictures and videos and shared with us. Exelent person we can not thank her enough for showing us around. Muchas gracias Chisato
Chisato and Himena were incredibly helpful with everything; from navigating public transportation to recommending local restaurants, and taking us to places we were interested in knowing. They went the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable and well-informed throughout the tour. We were so grateful for their flexibility in adjusting the pace and itinerary to accommodate our needs, especially on a hot day! When we expressed interest in visiting the Senso-Ji temple, they were both quick to adapt the schedule and ensure we had the chance to experience it.
Excellent experience. Our guide Himena was very knowledgeable and friendly. She has great recommendations for sightseeing, shopping and eating local specialties. Will definitely call them again when back in Tokyo.
We had an amazing tour with Himena! She brought us to all the neighborhoods we wanted to see, we got a little taste of everything (pun intended). On top of her expansive knowledge of the Japanese history and culture, she was also extremely nice and personable. Highly recommend taking this tour, especially if it’s your first visit to Tokyo.
Awesome experience, a wonderful curated adventure hosted by Himena who is so knowledgeable. Himena is flexible to make sure the experience focuses on the priorities of the group, giving you the best possible value for your time. We enjoyed her company so much, we invited her to join us for a fun sushi lunch. Highly recommend.
Himena was a fantastic tour guide! She contacted us ahead of time and met us at our hotel lobby. She gave lots of interesting details about everything we visited, was great with our kids, and flexible to our interests. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough!
Thanks so much to Himena. Everyone was very communicative and helpful. Would not hesitate to recommend this company to others.
Himena communicated with me prior to our arrival in order to plan a walking tour that would appeal to my family of 4 (including 2 teenaged daughters). Our tour was scheduled to kickstart our short stay in Tokyo and our arrival took longer than I originally planned, and then the address I gave Himena wasn’t correct. She still picked us up with a lovely smile and led us through Harajuku and Shinjuku, showing us so many points of interest we would have walked right by on our own. She explained cultural differences and showed us how to visit shrines and use the subway. It was a wonderful introduction to Tokyo, and we are thrilled to have met such a kind guide in Himena! Go Gators 🐊
We had the best time with this tour! My wife and I were in Japan in April for almost 2 1/2 weeks and this day in Tokyo was the absolute #1 highlight of our entire trip. Our guide was super knowlegable about everything Tokyo. His engish was perfect, just like a native english speaker. He was more than happy to adapt the tour to what we wanted to see and if we needed a break from walking. He even recomended a A+ place for sushi lunch! We have some friends travelling to Japan shortly and have wholeheartedly recommended the same tour operator!
Spending the day in Tokyo with Chisato was such a memorable experience. Chisato speaks English, Spanish, and Japanese, so everything was super smooth from start to finish. We felt completely at ease with her, like we were hanging out with a friend who just happens to know all the best places. If you're visiting Tokyo, book this tour and you’ll get a deeper, more personal look at the city that you simply can’t find on your own. It was defintaely the highlights of our trip!
Maki is by far one of the most captivating tour guides I have met. If you’re ever in Tokyo, do yourself a favor and book a tour with him. Maki is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also absolutely hilarious. He had us laughing the entire time! He showed us hidden spots we’d never find on our own. 10/10 would tour with Maki again!
Taisei and Himena were super helpful right from the start, making sure the tour was personalized to exactly what I wanted to see. Himena was an amazing tour guide, so sweet, friendly, and full of knowledge about the history and culture of every place we went. She explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and made the whole experience fun and meaningful. If you’re looking for a tour in Tokyo, definitely go with this one. You won’t regret it!
Outstanding tour from start to finish. Himena was so lovely, engaging, and informative. I learned so much about the history and culture of Japan and the traditions and context of the sites that we visited. We talked nonstop for four hours as we walked through the streets and rode the subway. It was a fabulous introduction to Tokyo. Thank you Himena!
Our tour guide was Taisei who is a Japanese/ English native speaker! He was very knowledgeable, accommodating, polite and helpful. Our tour included the Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, Ueno Park and Yanaka district. Taisei picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off there at the end of the tour! We wished we had more time, but we had to leave for Kyoto on the same day! Definitely recommend him
Really recommend. Our guide spoke amazing English and was very accommodating. He even came early on our request as we couldn’t check in to our hotel. If you want to familiarise yourself with Japan and are time poor, book this.
Tania was absolutely amazing! She was fun, knowledgeable, and really focused on our interests. She gave us great vegetarian restaurant suggestions, and the ramen place she recommended was fantastic! We were so lucky to have her as our guide.
Himena is a wonderful guide who goes out of her way to make your day what you want it to be. She reached out in advance and asked what we would like to do, and then created an itinerary that somehow united my 12 y/o want for shopping and Manga/Nintendo visits and my desire to see Zen gardens and the best tea spots! She is super easy going and is there to make your day pleasant so you don’t have Thank you, Himena.
We booked a 4 hour private tour in Tokio. Our Guide was VERY Kind and very funny. She showed us a lot of interessant sights and answered all of our questions. We would like to recommend this tour, we loved it!
Let’s just say that I had the most amazing time exploring the hidden gems of Tokyo. Taisei is the most amazing tour guide!
Phenomenal tour. Himena was amazing made the train routes seem easy talked to us and made the itinerary fit our needs. Even included a fantastic stop in a stamp shop she found to let hubby buy some Japanese stamps. Had many guides but Himena definitely one of the best we’ve had a really personable and a lovely girl you won’t go wrong if you book this tour.
Great personal guide - created our own itinerary and we were taken to each of the locations - made navigating the metro seem easy. Tai is the best.
Taisei provided the perfect introduction to Tokyo. Fluent in English Taisei gently walked us through buying subway tickets and how to make transfers. He had some destination suggestions and was able to accommodate our interests quite handily. He offered cultural insights in an easygoing style and adapted to our touring speed. We’re only sorry we hadn’t booked a longer tour.
We were very fortunate to get Himena as our tour guide. She was phenomenal!!! She was very knowledgeable, very responsive to customizing our tour to our interests. Himena gave us suggestions for additional s’places to visit after the tour The time spent with Himena was like spending time with a special friend.
Terrific knowledge from Taisei who showed us around Tokyo easily using public transport network. His messaging in the lead up to tour was outstanding and prepared an itinerary to suit us.
Himena was an amazing bilingual guide, and our kids had a blast with her! She showed us so many interesting things and gave us great insights into Japanese life. We explored Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku, and she covered every detail about each place. We also went to a kaitenzushi restaurant together—it was super fun and way more affordable than sushi in the US! The whole experience felt less like a tour and more like hanging out with a friend in Tokyo. Huge thanks, Himena! 😊
Patty did a great job on tour, showing us all the great points of Tokyo in spanish also how to use Subway and ticket for cheap travel between hotel and áreas
I cannot express how happy we were to spend our afternoon with Taisei Sano. We were jetlagged and tired. Taisei had already come up with some interesting spots and was a lovely and thoughtful guide. I should add that he speaks with native-level English. We never felt rushed and he was conscious of our energy levels. My wife and I were taken to some fascinating and unique spots, carefully shepherded through the necessary metro and train stations to arrive at our destinations. It could not have been easier. Did I mention that it was raining hard most of the afternoon? And he took some lovely photos of us that he sent along later. You will not be disappointed by Tokyo Footsteps and Taisei.
