Itinerary
Ameyoko (アメ横) is a busy market street along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno Stations. The name "Ameyoko" is a short form for "Ameya Yokocho" (candy store alley), as candies were traditionally sold there. Alternatively, "Ame" also stands for "America", because a lot of American products used to be available there when the street was the site of a black market in the years following World War Two.
Kappabashi Street (かっぱ橋道具街, Kappabashi Dōgugai) is a shopping street between Ueno and Asakusa, which is lined with several dozens of stores selling everything needed by restaurant operators, with the exception of fresh food.
One of best shopping streets in Tokyo, with the well-remained old town “Shitamachi” atmosphere. Explore the nostalgic side of Tokyo through Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street!
Best to visit this traditional fish market first on your trip! While there are many shops for visitors, locals still use Tsukiji! From fish to wasabi to beans and cooking supplies, you can find it here. Visiting with a guide is a great idea if you wish to be resectful of the local business!
Cat Street is the nickname for a mostly pedestrianized alley in Tokyo that runs between Harajuku and Shibuya. Cat Street is a haven of hip culture dedicated to youth fashion. The formal name for the street is Kyu-Shibuya-gawa Yuhodoro (or "Old Shibuya River Pedestrian Lane"), often shortened to "Yuhodo." From Harajuku, its highest elevation, it goes down to and across Omotesando Boulevard (landmarks: Ralph Lauren store and Gyre shopping center), and continues as a pedestrianized street down to Miyashita-koen intersection in Shibuya.
Japan's wackiest youth cultures come alive at Harajuku's Takeshita-dori Street Calbee chips, candy floss and crepes await you at Harajuku's Takeshita-dori Street, a pedestrian shopping jungle that is quite the sensory overload with food and fashion options popular among Tokyo's trend-setting youth.
Shibamata (柴又) is a neighborhood on the eastern end of Tokyo, not far from the Edogawa River which is the natural border between Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture. The town retains its old-school charm from yesteryear and is a perfect break away from modern Tokyo. One of the main attractions to see is the Shibamata Taishakuten Temple not far from the station.
Akihabara (秋葉原), also called Akiba after a former local shrine, is a district in central Tokyo that is famous for its many electronics shops. In more recent years, Akihabara has gained recognition as the center of Japan's otaku (diehard fan) culture, and many shops and establishments devoted to anime and manga are now dispersed among the electronic stores in the district. On Sundays, Chuo Dori, the main street through the district, is closed to car traffic from 13:00 to 18:00 (until 17:00 from October through March).

hello! i am emily and this was my tour guide for august 26, 2026. yuki-san was our tour guide for my mom, my dad, and me! i would recommend her to any foreigner visiting japan for the first time! she was very helpful on finding areas we did not know about, and also telling us things about in japan. we learned about many different cultures in japan that we didn’t know about beforehand. i personally cannot walk or stand for too long and she helped me with my needs and offered guidance with it by letting me take small breaks and staying with me during these breaks. overall, she is a very nice helpful tour guide and would recommend to everyone!
This was an excellent way to spend a day in Tokyo. Having visited Tokyo previously and seen the historic and religious sites we thought we would like to visit some traditional shops this time. Masa contacted us prior to our visit and tailored our visit to our requirements in a very efficient manner. It couldn't have been better. He met us on time at our hotel and helped us experience the train system on our way to some wonderful shops. It made the absolute best use of our short time in Tokyo rather than wasting time trying to work it out for ourselves. Would definitely use this site again
Izumi was excellent. He took us to 4 shopping areas and we found many things we liked. He also is very knowledgeable about Tokyo history. He guided us through using the subway and finding our way.
Suki was very flexible and provided good background. Helped us to get around in subway and cabs. We were able to see things that we won't be seeing later on another tour which was key.
We took a train to the Shibuya area of Tokyo which we wanted to see. The train ride there was easy and fun. It being the weekend, there were a lot of shoppers in Tokyo. Rather noisy in the Pachinko business there.
We really enjoyed our tour and more specifically enjoyed the fact that at the beginning our guide Mr Izumi set us down and explained several options we had and allowed us to tailor our tour to what our family wanted to see. This made the day much more enjoyable and it fit into the sites we were particularly interested in seeing.
We did the Tokyo Shopping Street Hopping private tour with Sam today. Communication was excellent. I told her what we were looking for in the shopping tour and she made sure we got what we needed. Her English was very good and conversation was very pleasant. We would not have been able to navigate the Tokyo train system effectively without her guidance. She met us at our hotel and made sure we got back. Highly recommended!
Noripy was so sweet and she took us to all the destinations we requested. She found a great lunch spot that offered many options, even for our teenager who is a very picky eater. We were grateful for her help in navigating the subway system there and translating for us when needed in the shops. She was so helpful and kind.
“Our tour guide Steve was incredibly attentive to my needs, highly knowledgeable about the areas we visited, and overall very kind. His professionalism and warmth made the experience truly enjoyable.”
Fumiko was an amazing shopping tour guide. She customized our experience based on what we wanted to shop for. She was punctual, flexible, and extremely helpful in making sure we got everything we wanted during our trip. I would highly recommend booking her services!
Noripy was amazing! She had a good pace about her, extremely knowledgeable, customised the day to fit us perfectly, helped with purchases and communicating and most of all a vibrant and friendly personality who we enjoyed spending the day with!
Yoshi, was wonderful. My daughter and I had th best day. He took his time and did not rush us. We loved every minute of our experience from the temples, to catching the trains and the shopping.
A great guide. Visited some wonderful places in Tokyo. Had a super fun time at the arcade and in anime stores.Did some shoe shopping in nice stores.
My family had Yoko as our guide and she was fantastic. We did not expect Yoko to bring her own camera, but she did, taking pictures of our family through the tour and sending us the pictures right after. We had a fun time at the Imperial Palace and on shopping at character street after including a great Raman lunch. I would highly recommend her.
We had a very special day with our guide, Hiro. Hiro was on time and visible in our meeting place holding a sign with our name on it. At the outset he said that this would be a tour of "off the beaten path" interest areas of Tokyo. We had so much fun learning about culture of Japan and Hiro made sure that we had time to shop and interact with local merchants. Hiro selected a lunch place for us where we enjoyed a Japanese meal with him. As the saying goes, "time flies when you're having fun". We highly recommend this tour with Hiro.
This is only way to go if you want to shop and get to those destinations with ease. Tokyo is a BIG city and your guide will get you to those places where you can buy what you want. We did cooking in one part of the city and anime in another with the subways in between, now easily navigated with your guide.
I know a lot of reviews name drop because the guides ask for it, but Miya provided and experience with above and beyond planning and genuine care. By far the best guide in any of our world travels. She reached out early on to understand what we wanted. It was a bit tricky with 3 little girls wanting Hello Kitty, Monchhichi, and Capsule vending machines (gashapon), adults wanting designer (Prada, Rolex, etc) and all wanting snacks (Tanghulu). She delivered on all of it. She even did a WhatsApp video call before to understand exactly. The above and beyond: - Took time to customize our name sign with our favorite Hello Kitty characters. - Brought Suica cards and holders for the kids to use. They loved being like an adult and tapping their cards. - Planning the perfect day and time to balance it all with stops at capsule store and Tanghulu to start. Helped us order the food. - Made sushi reservations for us, and at the kid friendly Kura, which they loved. - Talked to the chef to ensure our niece (8) with Celiac disease had gluten free food. - Kiddy Land for the kids toys - Ginza for the adults. Called numerous Rolex dealers for me and went with me to translate. - Pre work of finding F1 pop up store for us (F1 in Japan the following week). Then, on top of all that, after it was over, she came back to our hotel and brought a gift for our daughter who didn’t make the trip with us. Miya, we cannot thank you enough! You are the most thoughtful person!!
Maya my tour guide was amazing. She was kind, knowledgeable and knew the best spots to visit and shop. I managed to get a Handbag I had wanted for a long time all thanks to Maya. The fish market was also a highlight of my tour. I highly recommend her. Thank you for a wonderful day Maya.
We went to shopping areas I was interested in, with quality products. Very informative guide, who gave me a brief history of Japan while we were riding on the train around Tokyo. We went to a great local noodle restaurant. I had a Fantastic time
We enjoyed visiting the incredible sights in Tokyo and getting a personalized tour from a knowledgeable tour guide.
Great guide! Tailored our tour to our interests. Excellent value. Did so much pre-work to prepare for us, including scoping out our meeting place, as well as all of the places we would visit.
Nobuko was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable and flexible. My only suggestion is to request your start after 10 or 11 because that is when many shops open.
Despite the rain we got that day, I ended up doing everything and even more from the things I've planned with my wonderful guide, Yumi. The fish market was a memorable experience and a great start of the day. From there we visited the Meiji Jingu shrine . Then to a couple of shopping streets and I even got lucky to see a dance festival going on a big boulevard in the area. After some refreshments in Shibuya we ended the tour in Ueno. It was a pleasure to meet Yumi and to have her as my guide. Highly recommended.
A nice start to our trip in Japan. Informative and practical, certainly not too much. We really like it. Visited a slightly lesser-known district and then the tourist center.
