Knowledgeable, personable driver /guide. Loved not wasting a day in the airport. Had the best opportunities for a great sampling of Tokyo.

Senso-ji Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo. The name Asakusa appeared for the first time in the history of Japan in 628, when a small statue of the Kannon was caught by two fishermen in Asakusa. The people in the village built a small temple for the statue not knowing anything about its origin. The statue has been kept hidden in a sealed wooden box since 645, when a Buddhist monk who had been invited from Nara to see the statue suggested doing so. The box was opened once in 1868 by officers sent by the government to execute orders regarding the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. The temple received constant support from powerful samurai and it became a family temple of the Tokugawa shogun in the early 17th century. Most of the temple buildings were lost during the Second World War. The main building was reconstructed in 1958, and the five-story pagoda in 1973.
However the main Tsukiji Market was replaced in 2018 by the Toyosu Market, the outer market at Tsukiji remains. There are still various restaurants and shops containing numerous interesting items. (Some shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays,Wednesdays, and national holidays)
Ginza has eclectic boutiques and galleries, the shops selling Japanese traditional crafts, and incredible selection of restaurants and cutting edge architecture.
The Imperial Palace used to be the Castle of Tokugawa shogun family from 1603 to 1868. It became The Imperial Palace when the political power returned to the Emperor Meiji. The Imperial Palace grounds have many of the perfectly manicured pine trees and lawns which can be enjoyed from a car. You can also take a short stroll to see the palace walls and bridges.
The National Diet (Parliament) building is one of only a few buildings in Tokyo that survived the air raids of 1945. The building was built in 1936.
There are various buildings designed by the world’s leading architechts in Omotesando. You can also find every famous brand neme in fashion.
Harajuku will give you some insight into the youth culture of Japan. You will see unique fashion trends and outrageous design in fashion and buildings.
Meiji shrine has a pleasant atmosphere and nice break from the busy streets. You might be able to see a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony on Saturdays and Sundays.
Shibuya crossing is the busiest intersection in the world. It makes Times Square seem like a sleepy village.

Booking a 5-hour layover tour with Outech was the best decision we made during our trip. From airport pick-up to drop-off, everything was seamless, efficient, and completely stress-free. Our guide-cum-chauffeur, Kana-san, was absolute perfection—professional, friendly, fluent in English, and extremely knowledgeable. She ensured we squeezed in all the top Tokyo highlights without ever feeling rushed. The vehicle was spotless, comfortable, and stocked with snacks. If you have a layover in Tokyo, Outech (and Kana-san!) is 100% worth it.
If you have a short layover in Tokyo, book this tour! Kana communicated with us via whatsapp the night before, in the morning and then met us promptly at the airport after our arrival from Yokohama and made our 5-hour tour seamless. She provided cold water, snacks, and free Wi-Fi, which made the ride incredibly comfortable. What we loved most was how she helped us plan before she started to drive—she asked targeted questions to understand what we liked and customized a fast-paced itinerary so we could maximize our sightseeing. Kana is polite, knowledgeable, and a wonderful conversationalist. We would absolutely choose OUTECH and Kana again for future trips to Japan!
Zu was our guide she was fantastic we had the best tour in Tokyo, she communicated so well, the meeting point and the whole process was so easy and seamless, she went out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable, it was a great taste tester of Tokyo.
Peter picked us up from our hotel and was simply wonderful. He went above and beyond by providing us with a bag of Japanese snacks that my kids loved. It was very appreciated. He also told us all about the places we were passing on the way to the airport. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone.
The bus driver/Guide did a great job. She took us everywhere in Tokyo that we wanted to see. She was very patient and very helpful. I will recommend her to everyone
It was wonderful and very convenient to have a private tour van pick our family from domestic terminal for 5 hour tour for layover at Tokyo and drop us off later at international terminal. Our tour guide Ms Miku definitely made our tour even more amazing. She accommodated the tour to our family's agenda. She was very knowledgeable and explained history and significance of the places we visited. And we had few delicious food station stops during our walk she recommended that was delicious. Made Harajuku stop longer bec kids wanted to spend more time here. Ms Miku definitely made our 5 hour layover tour an extraordinary experience. We highly recommend Ms Miku as a guide and her company. And thank you for the box of variety of delicious snacks and refreshments.
Richie and Kana could not have done more to make our experience happy and successful.
We had a fantastic time with the wonderful Roberto. He took us to see things we were interested in and had the most amazing stories to tell us. We learnt so much from him, and saw temples and parks and old Tokyo and the highlight was Mt Fuji.
Kana was a fantastic tour guide! We had a 12 hour layover in Tokyo and booked 2 x cars to take our group of 14 to see the highlights of Tokyo. Ritchie and Kana were both so professional and fabulous tour guides. We filled in our afternoon seeing the best sites of Tokyo. Thank you Kana and Ritchie. We are leaving Japan with great first impressions! Looking forward to returning one day! 🤩
The trip was perfect for our group. The guides (Richie and Kana) tailored the experience for our group, they were interested in us and proud of their city. This was a perfect experience to utilise a long layover in this wonderful city.
We visited 1.Shibuya Scramble crossing 2.Near Tokyo Skytree 3. Sensoji temple (Asakusa Street shops) 4. Odaiba ( waterfront) We saw Rainbow Bridge and Statue of Liberty.
Our guide Style help us make the most of our short few hours in Tokyo. He made sure we were comfortable, planned the itinerary based on our interest and made it memorable for us.
This tour was the highlights of Tokyo. Douglas our tour guide was a delight. He was waiting for us as we arrive, was knowledgeable about our destinations, was flexible in extending our time and planned on the fly. We had planned on a five hour tour and extended it to eight. He even took us to a local restaurant and ordered a unique dining experience for our group. Douglas went the extra mile to meet all our needs. He even assisted us in shopping for a special gift. At the end of our tour, Douglas walked us to our gate and made sure we were safely on our way. All of us would highly recommend this tour and suggest requesting Douglas as your guide. Thank you Douglas for setting the tone for our amazing adventure! The Fab Four.
Our guide/driver, Soya, was great. Spoke English very well and adjusted the tour for some of our interests. He was friendly, we felt very safe and the van was spacious and comfortable. All in all a great layover tour. Thanks Soya!
Syota was my tour guide. He was on time, very good communicator and the car was super clean. He knew all the locations I wanted to see. My phone was dead so unable to take photos. He loaned me his phone to take pictures. I wanted to have lunch at a Japanese restaurant. He found one within walking distance of the temple.
Babu was an excellent guide! He was very kind and knowledgeable, and he took great care of me. It was my first time to Japan and he laid out a great itinerary and let me add things as we explored the city together. I highly recommend!
Tomoya and Riley were wonderful tour guides throughout our five hour layover in Tokyo. They had a perfect plan for us to use our time wisely throughout the adventure. They had to guide fifteen students and four teachers. My students had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend them!
We had a fantastic tour with Yosuke on our layover in Tokyo! We started at the Sensoji (Asakusa Kannon) Temple and he helped us to experience all of the different rituals. Next we drove through Ginza and around the Imperial Palace, then stopped for lunch at an incredible Ramen place. Yosuke was so helpful in finding somewhere that could accommodate our dietary restrictions, but still give us an authentic Japanese dining experience. (For me, that alone would have been worth hiring a guide instead of venturing out on our own!). We ended our trip at Shibuya Crossing and he gave us tips on how to get the best views. With limited time to see the city, we really appreciated Yosuke’s flexibility and willingness to adapt based on our interests and timing. He was so accommodating and patient, even when I (very confidently) told him the wrong airport pickup location and he had to track us down in another terminal! He truly went above and beyond to make sure our experience was excellent. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to Japan - now I need to book a real trip back!
Best tour and loved being pick up and returned to the airport to enjoy Tokyo while on a layover. Tokyo has so many amazing locations that I wish we had more time there. Our guide Maharjan Sanu Babu was the perfect host and got us back to the airport in time for our flight. Absolutely Loved Odaiba, Sensoji temple and the Shinjuku cat was great to see and don't miss godzilla. I feel like we truly got to see so much of Tokyo in the most comfortable vehicle.
This airport layover tour covered it and more. Leonardo was amazing and we were able to even customize our tour along the way. Would highly recommend.
Our Tokyo Layover Private Tour was incredible! We were originally booked for a 5-hour tour, but thanks to a change in our return flight, we were able to extend it to 7/8 hours. Even though we’re a well-traveled family from NYC, everyone we know who’s visited Tokyo recommended using a guide, and that was great advice. Tomoya (Sato) was our guide, and he was amazing. If we were on our own, we probably would have needed two full days to see what he showed us in just 8 hours. I highly recommend this tour, whether you have a layover or are your first day in Tokyo. It’s a great way to get a feel for a big city that has so much to offer.

It was a very exceptional experience. Excellent Tour guide. We would love to have the same tour guide in the future. Thanks greatly Roberto.
We had a great time. Ren was very friendly, knowledgeable, and a good driver. He reached out to us before we were to arrive and introduced himself. He made the pick up very easy. This is something we will definitely do again during a layover if time allows. We would definitely recommend asking for Ren if he is available.
I had an amazing day on my Tokyo tour with Umi as my guide. She was the best host, making sure everything was perfect—she even found a great vegan restaurant for lunch and helped me find souvenirs for my family. I loved all the history and cultural information she shared, it really made the day special. We saw so much in a short time, but the highlight for me was the peaceful walk through the trees to Meiji Jingu Shrine. It was just beautiful!
Riley did a wonderful job with my tour. She was very accommodating and relaxed, as we worked to squeeze in as much as I wanted for the tour. It’s an expensive trip, but absolutely worth it!
Babu was our tour guide! He was fantastic! So friendly and so welcoming! He made sure we were taken care of the whole time. We had the best time!! Thank you so much Babu!
We had a 9-hour layover in Haneda and were very impressed with the tour conducted by our fabulous guide, Genyo Ko (Gen). Gen picked us up in a wonderful van and had water and snacks for us to enjoy. We toured downtown Tokyo, including the Senso-Ju Temple and the fabulous Tokyo Sky Tree from where we saw all of Tokyo at night. Gen has a perfect command of English and is extremely attentive to detail. Great experience!
Had a great time with Miyu! Would, however, recommend that she practice taking photos or at the very least ask customers to turn and face the camera. All the photos she had taken were from behind.
This was the best guided experience I ever had. Umi went over the top to make sure my experience of Tokyo was tailored to my interests with the care of a true professional. So glad I did this.
Mr. Tomoya Sato guided our family consisting of my 65+ parents and 6 year old. He made our family trip truly enjoyable! He was very respectful and caring towards the elderly and best friend for our son. He had excellent knowledge about Japanese culture, history and was in total control when it came to local logistics and time. We visited Senso-Ji temple, Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji Fish Market, and had glimpses of Imperial Palace, Tokyo tower, Skytree and other landmarks such as Sumida river and Tokyo port. We traveled in a very comfortable, very clean, modern, air conditioned van, with water bottles and WiFi provided. There were sufficient big umbrellas in the van for weather eventualities. Mr. Sato was very proactive and easy to contact via Whatsapp and was prompt and organized when picking us up at Haneda airport. He dropped us back at Haneda airport in proper time. We got a lot of good photo opportunities and Mr. Sato eagerly helped us with whole family photos! We had the option of gorging on local food in the Tsukiji Fish Market, but decided to use our time for tourism, getting back to airport for lunch. A relatively good weather made our short Tokyo visit memorable! Arigato!!
Loved our fleeting visit to Tokyo. Efficient and timely pickup at airport, very comfortable car, obliging guide - thank you Tomoya! Loved the Fish Market and lunch nearby.
Highly recommend if you have a long layover in Tokyo! We got a very good experience of Japan’s culture, sites and food in a short amount of time. Our guide, Miyu, was excellent by showing us all the major sites and customizing the trip to what we wanted to see.
Richie was a great tour guide and was able to get us through rush hour to enjoy our limited time in Tokyo. Food was delicious, temples were amazing, and the view was gorgeous.
We were a group of 7 and had an amazing 5 hour layover with Umi. Umi picked us up on time, had great communication to plan our day, great driver and tour guide. Umi is very knowledgeable, provided us with an unforgettable experience, and got us back to the airport in time for our flight!! We highly recommend Umi as a guide to everyone!!
Aimi Was an amazing tour guide, professional, on time, smart knowledgeable. the car was clean and almost new. Highly recommend this tour and Aimi.
So happy I came across this company and booked this tour! We had a party of 9 (including an elderly 80 year old and a 4 year old) and it worked perfectly. Our layover was about 8-9 hours and this quick 5 hour tour was worth exploring instead of sitting in the airport. We had plenty of time to get through customs back and forth. Our driver was Nao and she was the sweetest! English speaking and very informative. She explained the different buildings/areas/sites as we drove past them to each destination and she took us to recommended tourist areas for great photos. I highly recommend! Thank you so much Nao!!

This is a perfect way to spend a long layover at HND. Our driver Riley texted us to arrange for an easy pick up at the airport. We were surprised and pleased to be riding in a new Mercedes 530 which was dangerously comfortable after a long red eye flight. Riley gave us many options and customized our 5 hours of time to match our interests. She spoke great English, was friendly and knowledgeable. We were enjoying ourselves so much we actually extended our time.
Ryu was exceptional, from the time he picked us up from the airport till he dropped us back, very polite, informative and helpful..
What a great way to spend a layover in Tokyo. We had a long time between flights and booked this tour so we would not have to sit at the airport all day. Our guide was great taking us to many interesting spots throughout the city. It was a rainy day but we were taken close to sites so we could see and enjoy them without a lot of walking. I was emailed with the drivers name when we landed. I responded as to where we were at the airport and the driver came and met us. This tour is a must if you have a long time in between flights in Tokyo
We had a seven hour layover before we headed back to the US. We had a group of middle school students with us and they were excited throughout the tour. Murphy Lu took us around and gave us a wonderful tour of Tokyo which we probably wouldn’t have gotten if we tried public transportation. He had a a lot of patience with my students and even showed us some perfect photo spots for the group to take pictures. Thanks for the amazing experience.
Great tour have a must see list. Remember traffic is bad and might not see everything. Tomoya was lovely and we loved that it snowed.
We recently had a 10 hour layover in Tokyo (HND) and wanted to see a little bit of the city before heading to Bangkok. This tour was absolutely perfect! We were promptly met at arrivals at the predetermined time and whisked away to all of the sights we requested (Rainbow Bridge, Shibuya Crossing to name a few). Our guide - Aimi - though was really the star of the show. She went above and beyond to make this short visit of Tokyo quite memorable. Would highly recommend!
We had a 20 hour layover and decided to go out and explore a little bit since it’s our first time in Tokyo. We booked the 5 hour trip with Viator which was easy to do. Immediately someone got in touch and answered our questions. We reached at 3.30 pm so did not have much options for sightseeing. Our guide and chauffeur Riley got in touch before our trip which made us comfortable and contacted as soon as we landed. We went to see the Senso-ji temple and Shibuya Crossing and had a good dinner at the Omoide Yokocho area per Riley’s suggestion. We loved it. Overall it was a great experience and highly recommend this tour. It was flexible and completely catered to what we wanted to see. Riley spoke English which was helpful and a very friendly and knowledgeable guide:
Great short tour during our layover. Gen took us to some beautiful and fun highlights of Tokyo. My partner and I wanted some authentic ramen, the recommendation did not disappoint.
This was the perfect tour for a 5 hour layover. We were able to choose our own itinerary and our guide was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited! Highly recommend!
We booked a tour for our layover in Haneda and had excellent communication from start to finish. We had clear instructions about where and when to meet and given some options for sites to visit. We left the itinerary up to our guide Riley, who made some great decisions for our short time in Tokyo. She always gave an answer when asked instead of hemming and hawing and saying “it’s up to you” as some people do…and she was very gracious about answering our questions about Japan in general. Would highly recommend it if you have the time available.
We had an outstanding time on our tour with Tomoya‼️ We were almost 3 hours delayed at the airport and he was there waiting for us with a smile!! We did some pretty fun things in the shorter amount of time we had, but he was GREAT!! Such a good way to spend a layover. Thank you
