Tokyo Izakaya Crawl: Eat & Drink Like A Local In Kichijoji

This tour consisted of a food and bar crawl though Kichijoji. It was led by Hichiban, who lives in the neighborhood and has all of the inside scoop on the best places. The food was amazing as we ate and drank at places frequented by locals. If you want an amazing and authentic experience led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable local, then I recommend that you book this tour.

Hibi is such a joy to be around! Not only is the food tour an excellent introduction to eating in her neighborhood but her energy is a perfect match for a group. She gave us some insight on the cuisine and the history of the restaurants and bars we visited which gave us an experience we otherwise would have missed.

We had an absolutely amazing night with Hibi and genuinely cannot recommend this tour enough! From the beginning, it felt much less like being on a traditional guided tour and much more like going out for the night with a local friend. Hibi took us to some of her favorite local bars and spots that we never would have found on our own, shared food and drinks with us, and spent the entire evening chatting, laughing, and getting to know us. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and easy to talk to, and the whole experience felt very genuine and personal rather than scripted or touristy. We got to experience a side of Tokyo that we definitely would have missed otherwise. We did a lot during our trip to Japan, but this night was easily one of the highlights and something we were still talking about after we got home. Was my 2nd time on this tour and it was brilliant both times. I really enjoyed going going from Izakaya to Izakaya and also get in touch with local Ojisans 🤣 Its maybe not a tour for party people but perfectly when you wanna get some Izakaya food, some Beers or Highballs while not having to rush. Will definitely join it again.

Our izakaya night with Hibi was easily one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we met her, her energy was infectious, fun, and welcoming. She guided us through a series of spots we never would have discovered (or even gotten into!) without a local who truly knows the scene. The evening was eye-opening in the best way, learning about the culture behind the drinks, trying delicious specialties we would have never ordered on our own, and experiencing the vibe of places that only insiders seem to know about. It was such a memorable, delicious, and genuinely unique experience and Hibi made it happen.

My husband and I did the Tokyo Secret: Kichijoji Small-Group Food & Bar Hopping tour with Hibi on our second night in Japan, and it was the perfect introduction to izakaya culture for first-time visitors. Hibi was a wonderful guide and took us to several fantastic bars and restaurants in Kichijoji's "Harmonica Alley." She adjusted the stops based on our group size and how busy each place was, which kept everything moving smoothly. We had the most delicious gyoza I've ever had, and we got to sample some traditional Okinawan food that we haven't had anywhere else. We were also introduced to shochu sodas, which have become our beverage of choice while in Japan. After exploring this yokocho with Hibi, we felt confident visiting other yokocho areas in different cities throughout our trip. She answered all our questions and helped us feel settled right away. I would absolutely book another tour with her, and I highly recommend this one for anyone who wants delicious food and drinks in traditional Japanese izakayas!

Hibi was awesome, I went with a couple friends and we were totally unfamiliar with izakaya culture so we pulled together to book a tour with Hibi. Not only was the experience fun and engaging, she also answered our curiosities about Japanese subculture and we walked away with so much more than expected. 10/10 would book again next time I'm in Tokyo again

I am a strong believer that if you want to experience a country like a local, but you don’t speak the language or you don’t look like the people, the best way to immerse yourself safely is with a travel guide. And if you’re gonna do a travel guide in Japan, there’s no one better to be guided by than Hibi. She was recommended to us by a family friend who had lived in Japan for 10+ years and trust me when I say: He knew was he was talking about. I've since recommended her to four other friends in two different times of the year and they absolutely loved it. When I’m back, I will see Hibi again.

In November I booked the tour for four friends led by Hibi. Overall It was a great time to experience several of the bars in the Kichijoji harmonica area . We got to sample many different foods that were unique and checked out several small places and all had a friendly atmosphere. Hebi was great in planning places to visit and engaging chats with the locals, to where you felt very much at home. If you want to learn about and enjoy the Kichijoji harmonica area, I would highly recommend this tour.

Joined the tour on a Friday night, the atmosphere was chilled but great. Went to several Bars in Kichijoji and came in touch with the locals, which was very great. Something you definitely wont find by yourself. Would definitely recommend this tour again.

Wow, this incredibly fun trip in the Kichijoji area known as the Accordian area was the most memorable part of my family's Tokyo trip. That's primarily because Hibi is a world-class host but also the places she took us were unique and delicious. What a fantastic experience! Hibi took us to places we'd never venture to ourselves as they are super local and very tiny. We had lots of opportunities to interact with the locals (including some impromptu singing). Hibi is an enthusiastic guide who knows her way around the area. Such a fun and memorable evening!

We were so lucky to have had Hibi as our guide in Kichijoji as we bar hopped and met the lovely locals and tasted the delicious food. Hibi is so warm and kind, we felt as if we had known her forever. Hibi is such a sweet guide and created a really fun itinerary for us all. We started off at an all-you-can-drink izakaya with DELICIOUS skewers, a fun staff, and a whole variety of shochu sours for us to try. I was part of a group of several friends and we met people along the way as Hibi took us through Harmonica Alley and through the rest of Kichijoji. This would be a great experience to book as a group and also as a solo traveler so you can meet / eat / drink your way through one of Tokyo’s cutest neighborhoods.

What a wonderful experience. Went to so many fun Izakayas in the “Harmonica” area of Kichijoji. Authentic Japanese food and drinks in so many delightful locations. You get a true taste of real Japan. Met so many wonderful people. Everyone was so friendly but best of all our wonderful host, Hibi, was so much fun and incredibly knowledgeable. We had a fantastic time and will definitely book again next time we’re in Tokyo.

Hands down the BEST bar hopping "tour" in Tokyo. I say "tour" in quotes because really Hibi is so friendly, welcoming and easy to talk to that after 10 min you already feel more like you're just out drinking with a friend. She truly creates a unique and intimate experience - it's clear she's connected to the communities she takes her tours thru, not just someone who's trying to take advantage of the heightened tourism in Japan. I don't think there was a single izakaya we went to where she didn't know SOMEONE there - the owner, employees, local patrons, etc. The obvious perk is she's also fully fluent in English but is also a Japanese local so you can get the best of both worlds. Don't skip on this tour - it's worth every penny.

It was a very nice tour. Hibi took us to several interesting and hidden places in the Harmonica where we had the opportunity to interact with locals and tried seasonal dishes and drinks. I enjoyed a lot.

It was a great time after a long days work to experience the wonderful restaurants and bars in the Kichijoji harmonica area and not worry about the planning. We got to sample many different foods that were unique and checked out several small pubs that had a friendly atmosphere. Hebi was great in planning places to visit and encouraging conversations with the local customers, to where you felt very much at home. Whether you are on vacation, or in Japan on business and need a fun night out to unwind, I highly recommend this tour.

Awesome pub crawl with some great people in Tokyo, Hibi is like a big sister and takes the entire group under her wing along with the others running the group. The staff at the pubs are really cool and friendly as well, along with a bit of a show and some short term entertainment to keep the party going in between eating and drinking. Highly recommend for solo, group, or any type of trip to Tokyo!

It was a really Great tour experience! I got to Experience places I normally wouldn't end up going by myself and meeting the local people of the area. It was an absolute joy having Hibi guide us through various bars in Nishiogikubo! Her chosen spots were so unique - places we would have never found by ourselves! I loved that we were able to socialize with the locals, who were all so incredibly friendly and welcoming (shoutout to the regulars at Kanpai!)
